Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. while driving 25 mph and coming to a stop, the accelerator pedal stuck to the floorboard for a couple of seconds. the vehicle kept accelerating at 60 mph when releasing the accelerator pedal. the throttle remained wide open when released. the contact had to turn the engine off to be able to stop the vehicle. the contact coasted over to the side of the road and the throttle started to release. the failure recurred twice. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. in addition, the headlights failed when the switch was in the on position and the windshield wipers activated when the switch was in the off position. the failure recurred numerous times only when the temperature was forty degrees or less. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 37,000.

The vehicle operated for 60 miles on the highway prior to the collision. road conditions were snow packed, and the ambient temperature was -1 degree fahrenheit. the vehicle was preparing to stop at an intersection. the driver was in the act of braking and slowed to about 1-2 mph. suddenly, the vehicle began accelerating without control into the intersection. the driver slammed on the brakes while the wheels spunout on the road. another vehicle collided with the dodge durango at about 45 mph damaging the left side and injuring the left rear passenger and the right rear passenger. the accelerator stopped with the collision although the vehicle engine was still running. *tr

We were driving our 2006 dodge durango for about 5 minutes when all of a sudden the dash board lights started flashing. my husband was able to veer off the road on a side street and coast down into a parking lot. by this point the car was completely unresponsive. smoke started to come out of the vehicle vents on the dashboard. we thought maybe a part broke at first. my husband opened the hood and there was no visible fires and not a lot of smoke. smoke started coming more and more quickly out of the vents. we got our 3 children out of the car. by this point smoke was billowing out. my husband ran into a building and called for help. the business gave us a fire extinguisher and called the fire department. as my husband ran back to the durango flames he saw the dashboard start to collapse. next thing we knew flames were flying up the front window. he used the fire extinguisher on it. the fireman arrived and helped make sure the fire was completely out. *tr

Upon turning into parking lot of local store, car shut down and system locked up. no power steering and no engine light came on. was able to steer car to parking space, stop and restart vehicle. this is the second occurrence in 2 weeks. same scenario, going slow in parking lot and vehicle shuts down. another problem has come up now when after i start the vehicle in the morning, it surges from 1000 rpm to 2000 back and forth for about 10-15 seconds. my questions for the durango makers is when will their be a total recall on these suv's? *tr

Just left my home not driving more than 30 mph when the engine light came on and i lost complete power. was towed to the dealer where i purchased it and they did a "pcm reflash with an instrument panel software update" they also replaced the cluster. now 2 and half months later, i haved moved out of state and once again just leaving my house not going above 30 mph and the same thing happens again. engine light comes on and i lose power, i was barely able to turn the wheel enough to get the vehicle on the side of the road. i was able to start the car again within a couple minutes and safely return home (it was dark), however the engine light was still on and it felt as though it would loose power again, like i was driving with the parking brake on. also on my drive here from california (to indiana) i lost my cruise control. this second incident happend tonight and will have to be towed to dodge dealer tomorrow. *jb
