Ignition switch locks up frequently. vehicle stalls out during stops, turns and backing up.
My dodge durango has been having this problem for awhile. i finally did some online reading of posts and found other drivers having the same issue. almost every day when i start my suv the rpm's rev up and down. it also does this when i am sitting at a drive-thu line, stop sign, or in traffic. it also has died on me when driving. mostly when coming from a stop, but happens when making turns, or sometimes just for no reason at all. if it doesn't stall it hesitates. it also will jump forward when coming to a stop. like i said this has been happening for awhile. we have serviced the suv for repair every time this has happened. the repair shop then fixes or cleans certain parts/areas, just for it to happen again. yesterday (june 27, 2012) it stopped working with all my children in the suv at a busy intersection. it is currently sitting in a shop while the techs scratch their heads trying to figure out the problem. *tr
Upon turning into parking lot of local store, car shut down and system locked up. no power steering and no engine light came on. was able to steer car to parking space, stop and restart vehicle. this is the second occurrence in 2 weeks. same scenario, going slow in parking lot and vehicle shuts down. another problem has come up now when after i start the vehicle in the morning, it surges from 1000 rpm to 2000 back and forth for about 10-15 seconds. my questions for the durango makers is when will their be a total recall on these suv's? *tr
Exhaust started ticking and upon investigating found 2 rear manifold bolts broken off allowing exhaust fumes to leak into engine compartment. talked to dodge dealer and found it is a very common problem and very expensive to repair. *kb
I have a 2006 dodge durango and recently it has started dying while driving. when this happens, the "check engine" light illuminates and the engine shuts off. steering and braking become very difficult and is very dangerous. my mechanic used a diagnostic tool and said it showed a code for the cam shaft sensor, and it was replaced. happened again a few weeks later. the diagnostic tool showed a code for the crank shaft sensor, and it was replaced. it is still happening. vehicle never fails to start after getting the vehicle stopped but due to the difficulty in steering and braking when it stalls, i have nearly had accidents. please help! *tt
Engine failure due to water being introduced into engine by emissions system. *tr
2006 dodge durango engine shuts off without warning while driving. my durango shut off twice in the middle of intersections during turns. it doesn't matter if it is left or right turn. it shuts off after stopping at stop sign and then beginning to accelerate. the dodge dealer can not find a reason for complete engine stall. the dealer has flashed the pcm. the engine stalled next day after flashing the pcm. when engine stalls there is complete loss of steering. in one year of ownership there has been five engine shut offs. in effort to fix dealer charged me for complete fuel system cleaning which was not needed. a throttle body service which was not needed. this is a problem that also belonged to the 2004/2005 durango and is still present in the 2006 durango. the flash to the pcm does not work. *tr
Dodge durango 2006. i have had numerous problems with this vehicle. at 119,000 miles, i have had the exhaust manifold gasket replaced 4 times due to broken bolts/studs, all o2 sensors replaced as well as the catalytic converter. the fuel system overflows when fueling up, splashing over the gas attendant and vehicle. the most serious and dangerous problem lately has been the vehicle stalling at all speeds in the rain. when i brought the vehicle to the dealer they said there was an update for a cowl below the windshield wipers that protects the firewall from water. they replaced this part. the next time it rained the problem occurred again, truck stalled at 45 mph. when the vehicle stalls you lose power steering which makes it difficult to get to a shoulder. once the truck is stopped and placed into park it will restart without a problem. the stalling continues to occur in the rain. very scary. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. whenever the contact drove the vehicle at any speeds including approximately 45 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled and shut off without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the failure could not be reproduced. the current and failure mileages were 52500.
On my 2006 dodge durango, the studs and bolts holding the exhaust manifold together failed. this required the replacement of two gaskets, four double ended studs and two bolts as well as twenty retainers. this vehicle did not have any off road driving and the studs and bolts failed during normal everyday wear and tear, which seems very unusual for a vehicle less than three years old. is there a possibility that inferior materials were used in these studs and bolts leading to the failure? *tr
My police department's 2006 dodge durango has had 5 cam sensors fail (one sensor twice, the other 3 times). it happens every few thousand miles. the check engine light comes on and the car runs rough. each time the patrol vehicle is taken out of service. this time i'm told that the part is on back order with says to me that we are not the only people having this problem. *tr
I was just wondering if anyone else had problems with both exhaust manifold gaskets failing at 40,000 miles on a 2006 dodge durango. fortunately i had an extended warranty that covered the problem. all other cars that i have had have gone much longer before needing the gaskets replaced. *tr
Upon starting and shifting into drive, the vehicle does not move, even when applying throttle. the engine revs, but the car does not move. thereafter, when the car is shifted into reverse and then again into drive, the car stalls. when restarting, the starter cranks for about five or six seconds before cranking. *tr
I've had problems with this vehicle since i bought it. somedays the truck won't crank, check engine light goes on and off took it so salisbury dodge kept my vehicle for 4 days gave it back to me said they couldn't find anything wrong with it said they turned the light off for me 2 weeks later same problem like truck not getting gas, truck just cut off on me and my family while driving down the highway. took it to dealership where bought kept vehicle for almost 2 weeks catalytic converter was bad every since they gave me vehicle back which has been about 2 months still having problems radio turns by itself hit bump the truck turned off almost got rear ended trying to pull to shoulder, check engine light goes on and off, every time i call the dealership to get appt they say they can't give me one i just need to drop the truck off and they will get to it when they can,so what do i suppose to do until they can see what's going on i can't afford to pay for a rental they don't want to assist me with that. i'm really scared for my family safety i'm still having problems with the steering sometimes when i make a turn it doesn't turn correctly it's scary i really need some assistant. *tr

Progressively worse engine idle at stops on '06 durango w/ 5.7 hemi. when stopping at light/sign, engine will drop from (normal) around 700rpm to below 500 rpm and feels like its about to stall. it will then come up to 500rpm (rough idle) and fluctuate between 450 and 550. if i give at a little gas, it will come up to normal rpm and stay. dealer says they couldn't get any codes or find problems, however they saw same symptoms when turning wheel. after researching, i found that this same problem has been reported for '04 & '05 5.7 hemi's and has some vehicles stalling during a turn in intersection (this is a potentially fatal defect). dealer confirmed that chrylser is aware of a problem and has no fix for it. the dealer had me pick up the vehicle to use until a fix is available. *nm
