My wife has a 2006 dodge durango that everytime you fill it up gas spits out all over the place. i researched on-line and found that there was a recall on the 2005 models. i also contacted my dealer with no help from them. it seems to me if they are having this problem on several year models it should be a recall before someone get hurt. *tr

I have a 2006 dodge durango, an excessive amount of fuel spillage from the fuel tank. the failure occurs whenever fuel is dispensed into the fuel tank, followed by fuel spraying out of the tank. the fuel nozzle stops when the tank was full with fuel continuously spraying out of the tank. the dealer has the vehicle and is replacing the carbon canister. the symptoms are the same as recall 05v-034. *tr

2006 dodge durango has had multiple engine & electrical problems within 6 month period. first car lost all power while driving at 35 mph, took all strength to get car to shoulder of the road w/o power steering & locked steering column. local mechanic said that computer was fried & covered under emissions warranty. towed to dodge dealership who said there was not a computer problem, just cam shaft needed replacing & recall on instrument panel cluster. after $450 repair for cam shaft & tow, a week later car started having electrical problems. aprox every other time i would start car, the radio & electrical display (clock) on radio would not work--appeared to not get power. six weeks later, check engine light came on again. by this time, original dodge dealership had been closed, so went to another dodge dealer for service. they found another wiring problem with engine. could not identify problem with audio/clock. check engine light went on about 2 months later. this time local mechanic advised it was a fuel pump problem. replaced fuel pump, checked fuse & still could not identify problem with audio/display. 9 days later went to start car in the am, and electrical seemed to sputter (lights, instrument pane, wipers, radio) but car would not start. starter does not appear to be engaging the engine at all. diagnosed as started motor problem, starter motor replaced, but car still not fixed. then told battery terminals & cables needed to be replaced. car now starts, but audio/display issue still unresolved. concern that there is a larger problem with the electrical system of this vehicle, which is the root cause of all recent problems. getting scared to drive this car on interstate or in any level of traffic for fear that it will stall out or lose power during operation again. the car only has 42,000 miles on it. first problem started with 37,000 miles on vehicle. i hate this car!!!!! *tr

Upon filling up my 2006 dodge durango vin#[xxx] at the gas station gas sprays out of the inlet following pump shut-off. i brought the vehicle to chrysler to fix and even though this is a widely know problem from my research they do not cover it outside of having a technical bulletin to aid in the repair. i have been sprayed on my person several times with gasoline because of this problem and on occasion have to inform the attendants of the spill due to the volume of gasoline. i see this as a serious safety issue that needs to be resolved on this year and the others that it effects as it is an obvious and dangerous design issue. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

2006 dodge durango fuel discharges uncontrollably when re-fueling, attributed to check valve (defective) - possibly attributed to ethanol content in the fuel that has degregated the check valve? dodge is aware of this issue and wants near 1,000 dollars to correct by replacing the entire fuel tank. *tr

I own a 2006 dodge durango 4 x 4 with 5.7 liter engine. over the past couple months every time i fill up the gas tank gas shoots out of the filler tube as the pump shuts off. for some reason it doesn't trigger the automatic gas shutoff of the filler nozzle and about a pint to a quart shoots out - on the person filling, the side of the vehicle and all over the concrete. i understand there was a recall for this problem on 2005 durangos. there are numerous reports of this problem in 2006 models on the internet and i'm afraid the problem continues on them. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated that while adding gasoline to the fuel tank it spilled back out. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who stated that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not notified. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 10,000 and current mileage was 60,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated that while refueling, fuel began leaking from under the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the dealer confirmed that repairs were needed to the fuel tank. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure and the vehicle not repaired. the failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 90,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact noticed that while attempting to fuel the vehicle, the gas would spill back out and leak over her clothing and vehicle. the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. the contact did not inform the manufacture. the vehicle was not repaired. the current mileage was approximately 90,000. the failure mileage was approximately 60,000. the vin was unavailable. updated 01/28/11 *bf updated 02/07/11*jb

2006 dodge durango with 97,xxx miles. fuel spews out of fill tube when fill-up is complete. have to fill the vehicle at very slow rate to help prevent it from happening, but does not always prevent. this has been occurring for approximately 1 year. *tr

When i fill up my fuel tank it fails to stop the gas from bursting out the nozzle when the tank if full. *tr

Purchased a used 2006 dodge durango with 21,000 miles on it in 2008. last year 2009 with approx. 30,000 miles the gas would start shooting out of the fuel neck when i would fill up. this happens everytime i fill the tank up. it gets on the car, my clothes and the ground. now i can only fill the tank up part way or get soaked with gas. this is very dangerous and they need to find a way to get it fixed. *tr

Have begun experiencing overfilling of fuel tank during pumping at fuel stations. problem occurs at various locations and is not fuel-provider specific. the resulting gas spill is significant and affects the individual pumping the fuel as well as spilling on the vehicle to a degree that fuel fumes are present in the interior of the closed vehicle. contacted local dodge dealer, as well as, dodge corporate and both have refused to pursue matter despite a recall of the 2005 model year (with the same body style) for the same defect. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. while adding fuel to the vehicle, it would spill out of the tank onto the vehicle and the contact. the dealer stated that the fuel tank needed to be replaced; however, there was no guarantee that the replacement would remedy the failure. there was no recall related to his year, make and model vehicle. the contact is concerned about the safety risk since the fuel leak could potentially cause a fire to occur. the current mileage was 43,000 and the failure mileage was 35,000. updated 01/06/10 *bf updated 01/07/10.*jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated that anytime fuel was added to the vehicle, it shoots back out from the gas tank. the vehicle had not been inspected at the time of the complaint, but the contact feels this was very similar to recall campaign number 09v003000, which deals with the fuel system tank filler tube inlet check valve not fully closing on the 2005 model. the vin was not available at the time of the complaint. the failure mileage was 30000 and the current mileage was 55000.

I've owned my durango for 3 years, but the past 6 months when i go to fill up my gas tank it overflows and goes all over the ground and my car. it is not a small amount of gas pouring out of the gas tank. this happens everytime i fill up gas, which is once a week. most times i have to rush home or to my destination to clean the gas off of my car. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve does not fully close at the end of refueling. this allows fuel to escape from the vehicle through the filler neck at the end of refueling . the authorized dealer was notified of the failure. the vehicle has not been repaired at this time. his model was not included in recall # 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly). the failure mileage was 42,000. the current mileage was 45,000.

Purchased 2006 dodge durango new in october 2006. sometime in 2009 this began: when you refuel the vehicle, the check valve in the fuel tank does not close at the end of refueling and fuel sprays out from the vehicle filler neck. this occurs nearly every time i refuel. consequences: fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source can result in a fire. i contacted dodge to inform them of this. i took the durango to my dealer and they informed me that i have to order a new fuel tank which is about $700.00 installed. the dealer service representative also informed me the fuel tanks were on back order due to so many being replaced. *tw

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated that while refueling the vehicle, fuel spilled to the ground abnormally. the dealer was contacted and advised the contact that the vehicle was not under recall. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure but the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 47,000 and the current mileage was 62,000. updated 01/24/12*lj

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) while refilling the gas tank and using the automatic shut off feature of the pump head at every gas station we've used the gas overflows out on the ground once the release is tripped on the gas pump handle. this occurs at every station we've refilled the tank since the issue has arisen. typically one cup of gas leaks out of the fuel open on each occurrence. 2006 dodge durango, vin [xxx]. we started to notice this occurrence roughly mid year in 2009, the issue hasn't left since. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango .the fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve does not fully close at the end of refueling. this allows fuel to escape from the vehicle filler neck. a technician from the dealer stated that his model year was excluded from recall campaign id number: 05v034000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap); therefore, he was not eligible for a free remedy. the failure mileage was 54000. the current mileage was 59004. updated 01/29/10 *bf updated 01/29/10.*jb

I am the proud owner of a 2006 dodge durango. however, every time i fill the gas tank, fuel spews from the tank once the pump kicks off. this occurs 100% of the time regardless of the service station or pump used, setting up a potential fire hazard and hazardous waste situation at the service station. due to the severity of this condition and number of complaints filed (28 on one site), i'm shocked that there has been no investigation or recall issued. i have resorted to stopping the pump well short of filling the tank, which is impractical on long trips. *tr

Tl* the contact submitted an email and requested to use the email, verbatim, as the submitted complaint: since about 50k miles (now have 81k) we have experienced gas shooting out of the fill tube every time we fill the tank up. it has gone all over my wife's arm along with the side of the vehicle itself. very dangerous issue. i understand there is a recall for '05's but not '06's. same issue so why not. are they waiting for a death to occur. dodge says they will not fix it unless i pay first to have a diagnosis and then i still have to pay $450 of the total bill! how about working thru dodge/chrysler to get this issue solved before it is too late. thank you.

I have a 2006 dodge durango that when filling with fuel the fuel comes pouring out of the fuel filler. this occurs every time i let the pump try to stop on it own. i tried many gas stations to make sure it was not the pumps fault and found it happens at all gas stations. this is not safe as quote of fuel comes out that could start a fire or splash into the face of a short person. i talked to the dealer ship and they say i must replace the tank and possibly the fuel filler tube. this happens every time the vehicle is filled with fuel. *tr

I recently purchased a used 2006 dodge durango limited. the vehicle now has about 33,500 miles on it. whenever i completely fill the tank with gasoline, it overflows. gasoline is sprayed onto the person pumping the gas and down the side of the vehicle. this is very dangerous. we no longer fill the gas tank completely in order to avoid the problem, but this is not an ideal solution and it still occurs randomly. i understand that there are recalls on earlier models (2005) but so far have not received a notice on our vehicle. i think this is a very dangerous situation and would like to have chrysler/dodge expand this recall to later models. *tr

I own a 2006 dodge durango slt. when i fill the gas tank the gas overflows regardless of which gas station i am at. the pump will not shut off. i found a website online with 49 similar complaints! thank you! http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2006/dodge/durango/fuel+system. *tr

Every time i gas up my 2006 dodge durango, the gas pump will shut off from being full, but a couple seconds later, gas will spray out of the tank with the nozzle still in place, usually spraying myself or my wife and gasoline with then run down the side of the car causing issues with paint, but also leaving a puddle of gasoline. i fear this is a hazard, not only for the reasons of a possible fire, but i fear that the gasoline on myself or my wife will ignite or that it will otherwise cause respiratory or skin issues. this has been going on for a few months now, just after the warranty expired (of course). i fear no recourse with dodge, they will not do anything to help since it is out of warranty, but i know this happens to many many others. *tr

Fuel fill-up worked flawlessly until ~45k. every fill-up after that (now at 58k), allows gas to spill out on the ground. the gas pump clicks off, and then 1 to 2 cups of gasoline gush out of the filler neck. the only solution i've found is to stop filling the gas tank before it's full (guessing game required to prevent environmental hazard). how can this not be a recall? *tr

When fueling, if allowed to fill up, at the point of full/pump cut off, gasoline will spray out of the fill tube around the nozzle and create a large puddle on the ground. this was intermittent at first, but has since become an every time occurrence. not only an environmental hazard, this poses serious risks to the passengers (esp. children)

2006 dodge durango fuel overflow while filling. problem started about 4 months ago, and happens with every fueling. there are two existing fuel overflow recalls on the 2005 dodge durango, but no similar recalls for the 2006 durango yet. *tr

Around 35 k miles gas tank started spewing gas at the end of fill-up. about 1/2 gallon of gas spews several feet and all over side of durango. does this on every fill at all gas stations. *tr

During refueling, when the fuel nozzle stops, there is an overflow of fuel spraying out of the fuel tank neck. what is it going to take for your agency to have an investigation? for an individual to burn while pumping gas due to a spark or even worse, to die? there was a recall for the same car on the previous year, why is there no recall for the 2006 model since it is the same problem? *tr

Fueling problem. at the end of fueling, excess fuel gushes out onto person and ground. this occurs every time vehicle is fueled. this creates a fire or explosion hazard. dealer states that no recall has been issued for this problem. vehicle has not been repaired. *tr

At the end of filling the gas tank, frequently when pumps shut off, gasoline is ejected from the gas tank filler opening. this occurs at different gas stations indicating that it is not specific to a pump or station. *tr

Starting about 3-4 months ago, whenever gas tank is filled, gas gushes back out of the vehicle, even after the pumping stops. we've had this happen numerous times at several different gas stations. this causes waste and a safety hazard, as it usually spills down the side of the vehicle and spews onto whoever filled the tank. vehicle has less than 35k miles on it. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated fuel would spill out of the fuel filler neck whenever the vehicle was refueled to capacity. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was told that the fuel check valve failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 104,000. the vin was unavailable.

Every time i fill up my 2006 dodge durango, the gasoline nozzle shuts off when the tank is full but the vehicle still "spits" out roughly a half gallon of gasoline all over the ground, vehicle and the person filling the tank. i have tried many gas stations to be sure that it is not the pump and have verified that it is the vehicle. in my research and discussions with dodge dealers, it seems that a recall was issued for 2005 models for this exact issue, but they fail to issue one for the 2006 model. i called daimlerchrysler and they refused to do anything about it. the mechanic says that it will cost roughly $800 to have the fuel tank replaced and get the problem fixed. i find this unreasonable as this is a manufacturer defect and a potentially serious safety hazard. as a firefighter, i have experience with fuel spills and the definite potential for a large fire as a result of a small fuel spill such as this. in addition to the danger of fire there is also a potential for aspiration of gasoline liquid or fumes as a result of the gasoline spewing out at the person filling the tank. this could cause potential death if it occurred. i personally have had the gasoline spew out and got a drop in my eye, requiring me to run to the bathroom and flush my eye out. the spills have also ruined articles of my clothing and will eventually ruin the paint on my vehicle. *tr

When filling vehicle with fuel at several different gas stations, as the gas tank approaches full and the nozzle shuts off, a significant amount of fuel sprays out of the filler tube. it has sprayed me twice and today sprayed the gas pump unit as it is under pressure when it overfills. *tr

Every third or forth fill up gas will come spurting out of the fuel filler. could be very dangerous. *tr

Fuel tank overflows during fill up.i just receive a recall on this issue on 2/01/2013. i bought this car new on march of 2006. i don't know when this problem starts but notice the problem and blame the gas station for their pump not working properly. this problem has caused me a lot of problem because of gasoline shooting out of a tank to spill all over me (loss of clothes, shoes and rash on my arm, hand, foot and legs).now my car where the fuel tanks is located caused the paint to rust ($600 to fix) and my bumper to discolored and because i rotate my tires most of my log nuts($200) has to be replaced.i cannot quantify how much gasoline i loss during that period.i have called them regarding compensation for this matter and was told that they will fix the problem which they did but not compensate me. *tr

Gas spews out of the gas tank filler hole before topping off. this happens at every gas station. the automatic shut off on the gas pumps do not detect that the tank is nearing full. manually filling very slowly still causes gas to gush back out of the filler hole. service at dodge dealership said it might be the tank breather, but the did not repair.*tr

When fueling 2006 dodge durango, like one quart of fuel erupts out of fuel tank filler when tank fills completely this happens to me every time. *tr

On february 16, 2009 i was filling the fuel tank on my 2006 dodge durango. i had the dispenser handle depressed, by hand, to fill the tank; the fuel nozzle did not have a catch to keep the handle depressed. the automatic fuel cutoff on the dispenser functioned and stopped the flow of fuel once the tank was full. within a second or two fuel came gushing out of the tank, spilling onto the side of the vehicle and onto the ground. luckily i was standing off to the side and not directly in front of the fuel tank filler neck, otherwise i would have been soaked in gasoline. i would estimate 1/4 to 1/2 of a gallon of gas came out of the fuel tank. i thought it might have been the dispenser, but this has happened numerous times at many different gas stations since. in an effort to prevent this, i slow down the rate of fuel flow to where barely any fuel is being dispensed, when i believe the tank is near full. sometimes i am able to stop the flow in time and there is no spillage. other times the fuel gushes out of the tank spilling onto the side of the vehicle and onto the ground as it has done before. after researching on the internet i see there are many other instances of this occurring for 2006 dodge durango's and other year models of the durango. i found a recall for a limited number of 2005 dodge durango's for the same problem i have, but there has not been a recall of the 2006 durango to date. there are many other reported incidents of this occurring: while this has not cause a fire or serious damage to date, had there been a spark or static electricity at the time this occurred, this would have certainly endangered not only myself, but my family and every one else at the filling station.

Fuel tank overflow i have a 2006 dodge durango that i absolutely "love" except the fact that the past 2 months has developed a problem. every time i fill up with gas (even at different stations), my gas tank over fills and gas is "gushing" out and a good amount is lost. my concern is not so much the expense in waste of extra gas i need to pay for. but, i have gas dripping down the side of my truck and in between my bumper fascia. and, this also causes a great scent of gasoline that also somehow gets into the vehicle, and lingers for quite a bit of time afterwards. i hate the smell of gas. i now fill up when i do not have my3 kids in the truck due to the smell and gas fumes are known to cause cancer. i have done some research and discover a recall id# 58886 which seems to describe the same exact situation i am having. unfortunate for me, this recall was for 2005 dodge durango's and not 2006. i have also been on the phone with dodge about this problem many times they keep telling me they never heard of the problem keep telling them same problem as the o5. i would like to have this situation investigated. i would like to request a recall for 2006 dodge durango's be considered as well. it does make me feel a little better knowing i am not alone with this problem. this is still a consistent problem that really, for safety reason must be resolved. unfortunately, there are many inconsiderate people that i have come across at gas stations that take pleasure in discarding their lit cigarettes onto the ground. and, i will be very upset (if i was to live) if that ignited light came in contact with gas that has spilled out of my vehicle. i greatly thank you for taking the time to read my concern. and, i really am hoping that you can help to resolve my situation, and others in my area. *tr

Gas spews out of the gas tank after filling the tank at the pump. same issue was found on the 2005 dodge durango and fixed by dodge. approximately 1/2 to 1 full cup of gas shoots out during fill-up. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact recently purchased the vehicle and noticed that gasoline spills out of the tank when placing fuel in the vehicle. the fuel nozzle did not stop when the tank was full. fuel still sprayed out of the tank and onto the contact. the failure occurs without warning. the vehicle has not been taken to the dealer to determine the cause of the failure. the failure and current mileages were 36,000. updated 03/23/09. *lj updated 03/23/09. *jb

When filling fuel tank, fuel spills out of fill hole after fueling is complete. happens every time we fill the vehicle. same issue that was happening on 2005 model that had a recall. *tr
