Recently reported FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE problems on 2006 Dodge Durango

With in the last 2 months without any warrning during filling up at an service station the gas tank over flowed losing about 1 - 1 1/2 gallons of gas. this has only happen once within the last 8 months which i don't return to that service station. now it happen at all service station i been too. the only correction that don't cost is not to fill the tank to the recomened level. but with the tank not being fill more fuel is being burn depending on vehicle uses. *cn

Every time when filling the gas tank, the fuel overflows and spills out. started in early 2010. have seen hundreds of similar complaints for the 2006 model on various websites. the 2005 model was recalled for this issue. *tr

Every time i fill up my gas tank, it spews gas out at me instead of shutting off the pump. it doesn't matter if i hold the pump or put the stopper thing (not sure the correct name) on, until i physically let go of the handle it continues to overflow. the last fill up it actually went all over me!! i called chrysler and have a reference # if needed. i have a 2006 dodge durango limited, but i have owned it for less than 1 year. it has 70000 miles. i have checked to see if there is a recall, but none exist yet. however, there is a recall on the 2005 durango. i feel this is a major safety issue and i would hate to see someone injured--myself, my children, someone else who pulls up at the gas station after i have left and drops a cigarette or something causing an explosion, etc.....*cn

When i fill the 2006 dodge durango fuel tank with gasoline the pump does not shut off and fuel sprays fuel all over the car, ground and people if in the way. the 2005's were recalled for this. it says there is a problem with the fuel filler vent. it happens at every station regardless of retailer. *tr

Every time we fill up, the gas spills out. by the time the nozzle clicks, it's too late and the fuel gushes out of the tank. my daughter was near me when it happened the first time! i've used various gas stations, but it always happens. it has to be the inlet check valve in the tank. it is not user error. now i have to sit there forever and pump slow, or just go with half a tank, and in colorado, it's not safe to do that if we break down in the cold and snow. no one fills the tank except me due to obvious safety reasons. i called dodge years ago and they said it would fall on me to pay for their problem! now, it's just getting annoying that this still has not been resolved even though there are numerous complaints. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated while filling the vehicle with fuel, gas spit out of the tank splashing on the gas on the contact. the contact noticed a recall regarding the fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap for the 2005 model durango but not for the 2006 model. the contact called the manufacturer regarding the issue with the fuel system and the manufacturer informed the contact that there was no recall for the 2006 model, and he would be responsible for the repairs. the contact stated this is a safety issue that could result in a fire. the failure mileage was 62,000.

Our 2006 dodge durango spits a large amount of gas out during refueling. when the tank is full and the pump shuts off the gas spits out all over you and the ground. there is about 20 ounces or so that does this. it happens everytime you fill the tank. the dealer said it was a device in the filler neck that goes bad often. this is a serious fire hazard and needs to be addressed. *tr

I have a 1996 dodge durango and when you fill the fuel tank, fuel gushes out of the pipe when the pump shuts off. this happens every time. it is the same thing that the 2005 durangos were recalled for. i'd like mine recalled. 2005 recall 09v003000 and nhtsa campaign number: 09v003000 the fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve may not fully close at the end of refueling. this could allow some fuel to escape from the vehicle through the filler neck at the end of refueling.*cw

Please take a look at this website: http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2006/dodge/durango/fuel+system there are over 50 other complaints about this problem. i have a 1996 dodge durango and when you fill the fuel tank, fuel gushes out of the pipe when the pump shuts off. this happens every time. it is the same thing that the 2005 durangos were recalled for. i'd like mine recalled. 2005 recall 09v003000 and nhtsa campaign number: 09v003000 the fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve may not fully close at the end of refueling. this could allow some fuel to escape from the vehicle through the filler neck at the end of refueling.*cw

When filling the fuel tank on my 2006 dodge durango, gasoline surges out of fuel tank onto the vehicle, the ground and the person filling the vehicle if they are standing too close. as much as a 1/2 pint of fluid may surge out once the tank has been completely filled. this happens every time unless you are filling the tank very slowly. it appears that the paint is being damaged from the gasoline running down the side of the vehicle onto the ground. *tw

When you fill the tank it spews gas all over you this happens every time you fill the tank! the pump handle clicks off then here comes the gas it sprays everywhere. *cn

2006 dodge durango that spills fuel from the filler tube when refueling. exactly as stated in the 2005 dodge durango campaign 05v034000, however 2006 is not included. *tr

1. purchased 2006 dodge durango slt w/ hemi, 8 cyl engine used in aug. of 2006 with 19,000 mi. responded to 3/9/07 electrical system: instrument panel recall on 12/30/09 at moss bros. dodge in san bernardino, ca. after initial 12/30/09 visit, experienced power shortages multiple times for the automobile radio. moss bros. denied any connection between this and their efforts at the instrument panel. refused to help in any way. also began to experience trouble with the gas tank. it began to overflow when i attempted to fill the entire tank. too discouraged to check with moss bros. again. 2. the main failure is that gas spews from the tank if it is filled completely, especially if the gas clip is used to automatically fill it. this happened a few times to me and my spouse at multiple gas stations. we now only fill our tank a certain percentage to avoid the problem. the consequences of not being this careful are that gas will spill out on the car, on us, and at the gas pump. an additional consequence is that we would like to sell this car, but will now be forced to foot the bill for this safety issue before we can do so. 3. nothing has been done at this point to correct the problem because we knew it would be costly. as of this month (aug. 2010) we have just read on the internet that there was a recall for 2005 dodge durangos for this exact problem and other people (who own even newer models, i.e. 2007) are still experiencing this safety issue. *tr

Fuel refueling causes an overflow condition of about 3 cups of fuel. it happened at about 50,000 miles and continues every fillup after that. dealer says they can't fix it. *tr

Recently purchased 2006 dodge durango. everytime i get gas, no matter where i get it, the gas shoots out of the filler tube when it is done filling. this happens no matter how slow it is filling, usually dumping at least a pint, even up to a quart of gas onto the car and the ground creating a very serious fire hazard. this happens everytime i get gas. what can i do? *tr

Fuel over-spills when filling tank. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. whenever fuel was added to the vehicle it flowed out of the vehicle. the gasoline fill sensor failed to shut off. there were no related recalls. no repairs were made to the vehicle to date. the failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 56,000. updated 03/01/10 *bf the consumer referenced recall # 09v003000. updated 06/28/10*jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated when refueling the vehicle, fuel would spew back out from the filler neck. the contact was able to locate a recall in relation to the failure (nhtsa campaign id number: 09v003000: fuel system, gasoline: storage: tank assembly) yet when contacting the manufacturer, he was informed that his vin was not included in the recall. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for repairs or diagnostic testing. the manufacturer would not provide any assistance. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 55,000.

2006 dodge durango limited 5.7 liter engine. gas tank overfills at the pump. pump doesn't shutoff. started at around 65,000 miles. *tr

We own a 2006 dodge durango that we purchased new. it now has approx. 34,000 miles. within the last 3 months, the gas tank overflows whenever we fill up with gas. the fuel pump shuts off but then fuel comes gushing back up out of the tank. it runs all over down the side of the truck and splashes back usually landing on our feet and hands. i understand there was some type of recall for this same issue on 2005 durangos.

I am the original owner of a 2006 dodge durango, i never had a problem until my mileage hit 40,000. my problem is when i filled my fuel tank the pump shuts off and gas would gush out of the tank. everyone even strangers would tell me how dangerous this was, a spark from another car or static electricity could start a fire if this happened at the gas station it could be disastrous. the first few times this happened i ended up drenched with gas. i would then stand behind my durango when fueling. and still end up smelling like gasoline because it was all over the ground, the vehicle, the handle and pump. i called my dealer explained what happens and was told there wasn't a recall on this spilling gas problem and if everything that went wrong had a recall they would make no money. does a fire have to start or someone get hurt or die before dodge steps up to the plate and accepts responsibility. i had my fuel tank replaced and was told "this problem was not caused from age, wear and tear it was a manufacture failure. the total cost for this was $1,600.00. changed state from alabama to california at the consumers request. 04/26/11 updated 05/06/11 *bf

I have a 2006 dodge durango that has gas fill overflow issues. when pumping gas, the pump nozzle will automatically turn off, but gas rushes out of the gas tank for a few seconds. very dangerous and messy. this happens everytime when filling up. *tr

I have a 2006 dodge durango and when you fill the fuel tank, fuel gushes out of the pipe when the pump shuts off. even when you pump it slowly near the end, this occurs. sometimes it can almost be a half a gallon all over the ground and shoes and clothes. *tr

In september 2009, we purchased a used 2006 dodge durango. it only had 17,500 miles and was very well cared for. everytime i fuel the vehicle, the gas overflows. it seems very dangerous but i do not see a recall for a 2006 durango, only a 2005 durango. any help or advice would be appreciated. *tr

Fuel system forces gasoline out of the fuel tank when you are attempting to fill the tank causing extremely hazardous condition and environmental damage . this is an ongoing problem sense the nhtsa recall in 2005 of the dodge durango fuel systems . *tr

I have a 2006 dodge durango and for the past few months every time i fill my gas tank and it even gets remotely close to full it sprays fuel at me everywhere and spills tons on the ground. i can't leave it for a second and it can't get full or it's horrible. i see that the 2005 durango's had a big recall for the same exact incident but nothing for the 2006's. i called the dealership and i'm told that the whole fuel tank needs to be replaced. this is a huge safety issue do to the amount of gas that sprays out and nothing can really be done to stop it except me pay to replace it or to not fill my tank which is a pain. my vehicle is not that old for this to be happening. why is 2005 covered but not 2006? *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. upon filling the fuel tank with gasoline, the gasoline would often spew back out of the filler neck. the vehicle failure was not diagnosed by a dealer nor was the manufacturer contacted. the contact stated that he had experienced the failure since the vehicle was purchased. the current and failure mileages were 41,000.

2006 dodge durango my gas tank does not auto shut off properly and spills gas, dodge has a simular recall for the 2005 dodge durango *cn

I'm the original owner of a 2006 dodge durango with 54k miles. on many occasion, when filling up the gas tank, gas shoots out in force when the tank becomes full. not sure why the gas pump didn't shut off. this has happen several time but always when filling up the tank. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve does not fully close at the end of refueling. this allowed fuel to escape from the filler neck. consequently he along with the surrounding area was submerged with fuel. fuel in the presence of an ignition source can cause a fire. the dealer nor the manufacturer has been contacted. the failure and current mileages were 15,000. updated 01/12/10. *lj the consumer stated when he went to close the fuel tank, gas blew out all over him and the gas pump. updated 01/13/10*jb

Everytime i have filled up my gas tank for the past 2 months it overflows. this causes a fair amount of gasoline to flow out of the fill area and onto the ground. there is so much that on several occasions i have had to notify the gas attendants on duty so proper measure can be taken for the spill due to the potential fire hazard involved. on december 14th i went to a dealership to have vehicle assessed, and they advised it is the fuel tank check valve that is not working properly. it will cost $721 to replace because the check valve is part of the whole fuel tank assembly. to keep this from happening, until i can afford to replace the tank, i will try to not fill up my tank completely. *tr

On two (2) occasions recently while refueling my 2006 durango limited the fuel tank overflowed. this occurred at different fueling locations therefore it must be vehicle specific. *tr

Fuel forcefully spraying out of filler tube when vehicle is being fueled and the tank is nearly full. *tr

I have a 2006 dodge durango that spews gasoline all over the car, the person filling the tank (if you are not careful) and the ground whenever you are filling it up. i have researched and found there was a recall for the 2005 model year but have only been able to find complaints of similar problems with the 2006 with no solutions. this is a very dangerous condition and very harmful to the environment. we are discouraged from topping off our tanks so i am sure this is a concern. the paint on my car is starting to discolor from this happening numerous time. please let me know what, if any recourse i have. *tr

2006 dodge durango fuel filling shutoff is not working anymore. when the gas pump clicks off, gas comes spewing out of the durango all over the place. *tr

I own a 2006 dodge durango with the hemi engine, the problem and safety issue is every time i fill the car with fuel after the pump clicks off the fuel blows out all over the side of the car and sprays on to your clothes and on the ground this is an environment and safety hazard. *tr

My 2006 durango has the common fuel over-flowing problem. upon completion of fill up it overflows a good amount of fuel, often soaking gas attendant, myself and truck. gas station attendant claims that these trucks all overflow like that and they are a big problem. its going to be an even bigger problem once one of these ignites into flames! *tr

Fuel overflow spills out of gas tank when the tank gets full. spillage amount is between 1/4 and 1/3 of a gallon each tine the tank is filled to the top. the fuel spits out of the fill receptacle like it is under pressure. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated during refueling, the automatic fuel nozzle shuts off, and the fuel would spray out of the fuel tank filler neck onto his clothing and ground. the spillage consisted of approximately one gallon of fuel. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they informed that the fuel tank assembly would need to be replaced. the vehicle had not been repaired. the contact stated that there was a recall on the 2005 model related to the similar defect under nhtsa campaign id numbers 05v034000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: tank assembly: filler pipe and cap); and 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: tank assembly). the failure mileage was 70,000.

2006 dodge durango at about 75,000 miles every time i fill up with gas, the pump shuts off then gas explodes out of the fill tube soaking me and everything around me. don't know the diagnosis or cost of repairs. feel this is a very serious safety problem with this model. am aware that 2005 durangos were recalled due to this problem. *tr

2006 dodge durango. when i fill up the gas tank there is an overflow of gas that spews out of the gas tank neck after the tank shuts off. approx. 1/2 gallon of gas ends up on me, side of car, and ground. this has happened about 5 times since november 2009. it has happened at different gas stations and i am not topping off the tank. i had the car checked at a dealer and they said the entire gas tank would need to be replaced. apparently this has happened to 2005 durangos and there was a recall. *tr

When refueling gas spewed from the fillertube after the pump stops pumping gas. a large puddle of gas is on the ground and all over the vehicle. *tr

Whenever we try to fill gas the gas comes spraying back out going on the ground, on the side of the durango and on us. we have tried numerous gas stations in several towns, different pumps at those stations and different kinds of gas. the result is always the same. currently we try to guess how many gallons we can put in and try to stop the pump in time but this is a huge inconvenience. i can't imagine how many gallons of gas we have paid for that went everywhere but in the gas tank not to mention all the car washes we've paid for to wash the gas off the paint. we've even had gas station attendants approach us about the amount of gas on the ground.

This issue always happens after the fueling process has ended: after the gas tank is filled and the nozzle has clicked off, gas will spew from the tank. this is not a drip; it literally shoots out of the fill point on the car (like there is back pressure in the tank). this happens 95% of the time the car if fueled at a gas station and it does not matter what gas station we are at. we have found that this spewing is not as severe if we fill the tank slower toward the end of the fill up, but it doesn't always help. *tr

Fuel constantly overflows, squirts out of filler nose. *tr

I own a 2006 dodge durango adventure and every time i fill it up with fuel a half to a whole gallon of fuel comes out of the fuel nozzle. i have been to at least 15 different gas stations. i called dodge and the said there was a recall for this and is only for 2005 dodge durangos'. i and having the same problem and is eating away finish of paint. this should be looked in to due to fire hazard. *tr

After filling my 2006 dodge durango, the auto shutoff engaged from the gas pump, and approximately 1/4 gallon of gasoline erupted from the nozzle and spilled down over the vehicle and pooled on the ground. *tr
