We have classified the 372 complaints from 2006 Dodge Durango about FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE into the following categories.
Gasoline spits back from the gas tank every time that the vehicle is filled up. the check value is defective and could easily start a fire during the fill-up because it does not properly shut off. i can not completely fill up my gas tank without the danger of spraying gasoline everywhere at the gas station. a tsb was issued, but it does not cover my vin. *jb
After filling vehicle with fuel gas will shoot out of intake area. approximately 1/4 to 1/2 gallon. *kb
Every time i fill up with gas it erupts back out of the tank. the local dealer says it is the fuel tank filler check valve. this is located inside the fuel tank. the solution is to replace the fuel tank. dodge did a recall on the 2005 durango but not the 2006 durango. $900 for the part plus labor. *tr
While filling up my vehicle with fuel, the vehicle topped off and shut off the fuel nozzle, then fuel came rushing out of the vehicle's filler tube onto the vehicle, my hand and leg, and the ground. this is an ongoing mishap with this vehicle and other 2006 durango's as indicated by reviewing historical events on this website. it should not take a major mishap or fire to get the appropriate attention this deserves,. chrysler refuses to acknowledge there is an issue, however the 2005 durango was recalled for the same exact problem. *tr
A month after i bought my 2006 dodge durango that is when it started spitting out gas. it doe it when i try to fill it up. i have had this truck for two years and nothing has fixed the problem. i am afraid to fill it up because every time i do it spits back out on me to where it get on my clothes. i have a toddler and can't risk her inhaling the fumes so i cant fill the truck up causing the truck eat the gas quicker. *tr
Every time when filling the fuel tank to full, by hand or automatic shutoff, the gasoline sprays out and overflows onto the car, fuel nozzle, and ground when full. this occurs regardless of the speed of filling the tank. *tr
When filling the gas tank with the automatic shut off, the tank overfills about every other fill. *tr
Anytime we fill the durango and gas comes back out when the nozzle is removed. there is so much gas that comes out that we have to clean it up from the ground and it has caused bubbles in the paint which have resulted in surface rust. dealer that we purchased from checked the vehicle and told us there was a clogged filter. we got the filters replaced and when my husband filled it up today 6/26/2012 he said at least 1/2 gallon of gas came back out of the car. this is a dangerous issue because it is leaving gas all on the ground. the only way we can keep the gas from coming out is to remove the nozzle after every single gallon. the fuel sensor inside the car will even register full at 16 gallons of gas when the tank is 26 gallons. we are wasting all kinds of money from the gas coming up, cost of repairing the paint and removing rust and the money we spent on replacing filters that have made this issue worse. this is a serious problem that needs to be fixed. it was fixed in 2005 vehicles but nothing for 2006 and higher even though the problem has not been fixed. some dodge dealerships are even calling owners liars saying they have never heard of any issue like this or any recalls ever for this type of issue. someone needs to make dodge responsible for fixing this issue. the gas that spills is going to end up causing a fire and killing people one of these days. *jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated that during refueling, fuel would leak from the tank abnormally. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection or repairs. the manufacturer was made aware of the vehicle but offered no assistance. the failure mileage was 51,000 and the current mileage was 59,125. updated 11/16/11 *bf updated 11/18/11
While refueling my 2006 dodge durango limited at the aafes gas station on randolph afb, fuel came spewing out of the refuel nozzle once the pump cut off and the tank was full this has happened over 60 times since owning the vehicle, and at various gas stations across america. the gas station attendant was very angry with me saying that i overfilled the tank until i explained to him what is going on withthe vehicle. he got a mop hazmat kit and cleaned up the mess before i left. this is a safety and fire hazard. the 2005 durango was recalled for the same problem, but the 2006 is being ignored. you can see a video of this happening on youtube by looking for 2006 durango fueling problems. there are too many complaints on this website for nothing to be accomplished for us owners of the 2006 durango. what will it take, a fire and someone injured or killed to get the message? chrysler refuses to acknowledge there is an issue, and my local dealer is in denial and knows nothing of the problem. *tr
When refilling the fuel tank the nozzle on the hose from the gasoline dispenser does not click on and stop the flow of fuel once the tank is full resulting in approximately 8 ounces of gasoline being regurgitated back out of the tank and onto the side of the vehicle onto the person standing there fueling the car and then onto the ground. in my opinion this poses a grave safety hazard in that this overflow may ignite and injure the person filling the vehicle plus cause a rather large fire when the vehicle and surrounding items at the station also go up in flames.this has happened at several different filling stations and i was advised last friday (1/13/2012) by an attendant at t sam's club filling station that this is a common occurrence for durangos of the age of mine. i stopped by avondale dodge (where i purchased the vehicle new) on my way home to discuss this problem and they gave me a 800 number to call that i've been getting a run around about the problem so far. *tr
Fuel spill / spit back during refueling due to faulty inlet check valve (icv). occurs every time when refilling tank. gas has spilled on my clothes and caused irritation to my skin. it also spills all over ground. this is both a flammable hazard and environmental hazard. called dodge corporate customer care in 2012. they assigned me a case # and case manager. the case manager looked up my vin and said the defect is not covered under any extended warranty for my specific vehicle. *tr
Gasoline sprays out all over ground and vehicle when filling up. after pump automatically shuts off, you can hear the gasoline suck back up and than it sprays out. *tr
When i fill the gas tank, gas spits out . has happened more than a few times and i read that this is a recall. my dealership shrugs it off and told me its not a recall and just dont fill up my tank. *tr
While re-fueling the vehicle after the pump auto shut off clicks off about a second or two later fuel comes spewing out under pressure, spilling fuel all over the quarter panel and bumper, and onto the ground, spilling approximately a gallon or so. it appears there are several issues on this from searching online, i just purchased this vehicle used about 3 months ago. *tr
Gas spillback when filling tank. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated that while refueling the vehicle the fuel spilled to the ground. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnostic that located the failure at the tank filler tube inlet check valve. the manufacturer was contacted and a complaint was filed. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 82,000 and the current mileage was 82,300. fails every time i fill up. updated 09/29/2011 *ln *tr
Around august 10, 2011, as i was getting fuel it sprayed fuel everywhere after the nozzle had stopped. i have even tried to slow the rate of fuel and that does not matter. every time i fill up the tank, it sprays everywhere. i tried different gas stations and still no luck. this poses a safety hazard as all of the fuel spilled on the vehicle, the ground, and on my clothes. *tr
Each and every time i've let the gas pump auto-fill the tank, gas comes spurting back out. i no longer fill up the tank completely and have to manually stop the gas pump, in a sense, guessing as to when the tank is almost full. *tr
Each time i refuel my 2006 dodge durango limited, gasoline spews back from the fill nozzle onto the vehicle and ground. the last time this occurred, gasoline was splashed on an individual fueling his vehicle on the other side of the pump, ruining his jeans. *tr
Every time i fill my gas tank the following events take place: the gas stations nozzle clicks when the tank is full. a bubbling sound is heard followed by a gush of gasoline spewing from the fill neck onto me and the vehicle. the only way to prevent this from occuring is to try and guess when the tank is nearing full and stop pumping. i've read numerous article about idential problems. there was a recall for the 2005 durango but no recall for the 2006 durango. i've contacted dodge and it is something that'd i'd be responsible for paying for. therefor i haven't fixed it because of the expense involved. *tt
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated that while refueling the vehicle, fuel spewed back out from the filler neck. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for repairs of diagnosis. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 83,000.
Gasoline spews from filler neck every time when i fill tank with gasoline. every filling station i stop at is the same!! i spill gasoline on me, the car, the pavement. the nozzle will not shut off automatically. if someone were to throw a cigarette toward me there could be a gasoline fire with me in the middle of it. my dealer says there must be a problem with me when i fill my tank. i am 63 years of age, and have owned 15 cars or so, with no problems like this!!!!!!!!!!!! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated that after refueling the vehicle, fuel spewed back out from the filler neck.the vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised the contact that he needed to replace the filler tube in the fuel tank. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 70,000. updated 02/15/12*bf
While filling fuel tank fuel spills out of filler tube when tank nears capacity. *kb
I have a 2006 dodge durango that has a safety issue. when i fill up, the gas pressure builds up in the tank and spurts out all over. i can actually hear it start gurgling in the tank. i have been covered with gasoline on a several occasions. the first few times, i thought maybe it was something i had done, or the gas pump where i was filling. but i recently went on 2 trips from fl to ny and back and it happened almost every fill up on both trips within a month, as well as fill ups in between and as i stated, some prior to. this created several hazardous situations. gasoline on my person and clothing, inhalation of the fumes causing illness, gasoline on my vehicle, gasoline on the pavement at the gas pumps. i have seen several posts online about my exact problem since it happened. one person is personally documenting cases. he has over 120 + cases he is aware of, not including mine, this year alone. this is the first step i have taken at this point, as i feel this should be a recall issue if it is happening with such frequency. these are the documented cases just through one person online, which leads me to believe that there are many other cases not documented. not to mention people who don't fill their tanks all the way who may have the issue and do not even know it. does somebody have to be burned or otherwise injured, overcome by the fumes first? how many instances must occur before it becomes a true safety concern? does my child need to fill the tank and maybe swallow the gasoline that spurts out? please let me know if anything is in the works. the one individual says he was initially looking at a $350 repair bill that was then lowered to $100 and then offered free due to his complaints. i agree with him, it looks like they want to pay him off to shut him up. meanwhile they make money off what is obviously a manufacturer's defect. i have never seen this problem before and i have had many vehicles with many problems. this one is unique and is a safety issue.*kb
Just purchased 2006 dodge durango slt on tuesday, june 22, 2011. was filling gas tank this evening, pump shut off and about 1/2 a gallon of gasoline sprayed out of the vehicle, all over me and the ground. thought i did something wrong until i got home and researched this incident and see that this is a very common thing with these durango's and something needs to be done about this before someone gets seriously injured!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what if this would have sprayed into my eyes? why won't chrysler do a recall on these and fix them. i am going to be scared now to pump gas when i need it!! i have owned this vehicle for 2 days now........... please help us durango owners get this problem fixed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! chrysler needs to have a serious recall and get this fixed before someone gets hurt. it's documented quite well that this is a problem. what is it going to take? *tr
Dangerous fuel safety problem ! when filling gas tank, the pump automatically shuts off and approximately 1-2 pints of gas shoots out of the filler nozzle. it doesn't matter what brand of gas pump, or how much fuel is dispensed. this always happens when filling up. i have been having this problem for the past year and the dealer isn't acknowledging the problem. i placed the incident date so as to move to next page of this complaint. *tt
2006 dodge durango spews fuel when trying to fill up tank. have checked online and this is a big problem. the durango was recalled in 2005 for this same issue. *kb
I just purchased a used 2006 dodge durango. everytime i fill it up with gasoline, when it gets full, gasoline overflows from the filler tube and gets on the ground and me. i have read on dodge forums that this a common problem among durango owners and i feel is a safety issue. *tt
I have a 2006 dodge durango limited with the 5.7l motor. every time i fill up with gas it spews out excess gasoline. this happens at any gas station. the vehicle has 72,500 miles on it and this problem has occurred for the last 12,000 miles. i have contacted various dealers and i go thru the same routine: vin reference, then they proceed to tell me it is not covered under lifetime powertrain warranty, and that they have never heard of the issue, and to contact dodge corporate for assistance. when i contact corporate i follow the steps and they always tell me they cannot assist me at that time. i can never talk to a real person. i have a family and i do not want a fire leading to my families endangerment. *tr
Every time i refuel my 2006 dodge durango (limited), at least half a gallon of gasoline spews back from the fill nozzle and onto the side of the suv and ground (and sometimes myself or my wife). this is our family vehicle, and i consider this very dangerous for both my wife and i and our children. this is a hazard that needs to be addressed. i can provide video proof that this is a problem. *tr
When fueling my 2006 dodge durango; the pump will click off automatically then gas will overflow from the tank. i purchased this vehicle used and have had the problem since day 1 of ownership. dodge recalled the 2005 model for the same problem. i contacted dodge; and took my vehicle in to an authorized dealer. $1043 plus tax for parts and labor to have the fuel tank replaced. why did they recall the 2005 but not the 2006 for the exact same problem. this is absolutely ridiculous. it is a safety hazard !!!!!! please, please, please help 2006 owners get this resolved. *tr
After filling gas tank, when you remove the hose, gas comes splashing back out. *tr
When filling up my 2006 dodge durango with gasoline, just after the pump clicks off a large amount of gas will spew out from the filler entrance. this has happened at different gas stations. this started happening about a year ago. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated that whenever refueling the fuel tank, gasoline poured out from the filler neck. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the current and failure mileages were 73,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated that as the vehicle was refueled to maximum capacity, fuel spilled back out from the filler neck abnormally. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostics or repairs. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
Gas overflow safety issue. when filling up the tank, the safety vavle in the gas tank fails and does not shut the pump off. due to this, gasoline spurts out of the tank. approximately 5 cups of gasoline spurts out. most recently, my daughter filled up our tank and the gas spurted out on her. this is both a safety issue and an enviromental issue. *tr
Each time i refuel my 2006 dodge durango, fuel spills out the filler neck and and onto the ground. i have to warn the pump attendant that fuel will spill out on them if they are standing nearby. if my window is down the vehicle will fill up with gasoline fumes. our children have complained about the fumes in the back of the vehicle after leaving the gas station. the puddle from the spilled gasoline on the ground is ab out 1.5 to 2.5 feet in diameter. *tr
The shut-off valve on the gas tank for my 2006 dodge durango does not work and significant volumes of gasoline spill onto the ground during each visit to the gas station. due to repeated events over the life the vehicle the paint under and behind the tank has failed and rust under the paint is occurring. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated that when refueling the fuel tank, the fuel would spew out of the tank when it was full. the emission control light illuminated after the failure and the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who advised that the egr valve would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the current mileage was 43,803 and the failure mileage was approximately 41,200.
When i refuel my 2006 dodge durango after the gas pump shuts off there is a burst of fuel that will flow out of my gas tank and leak all over the side of the car. this can be extremely hazardous to myself and the children in the car if a spark is present. this issue happens everytime i refuel my vehicle all the way and has now cause the paint to also to start coming off under the gas tank. *tr
I have a 2006 dodge durango. the last 5 times i've filled it up, the gas has overflowed even though the auto shut-off clicked on the pump handle. the first time i thought it must be the pump, but now that it's happened 2 more times, i'm am very worried and would like this fixed by dodge. my vehicle is not on the recall list but is doing the same as the ones that have been recalled.
Fuel spills out of fuel tank when filling fuel tank. *tr
I have a 2006 dodge durango. the automatic fuel shut-off valve, located inside the fuel tank, does not work. this allows for fuel to splash out of the tank each time you fill the tank. from the research that i've done, this is a know problem for chrysler products, which resulted in the recall of several thousand 2005 model year dodge durangos. the problem persists in model years 2006 and 2007 for dodge durangos, chrsyler aspens, jeep wranglers and jeep grand cherokees. this is an extreme safety hazard as the fuel splash unexpectedly. *tr
When recently filling the gas tank on our 2006 dodge durango slt with about 46k miles from near empty, about 1-2 cups of gasoline came spraying back out of the filler, and for the rest of the day the interior of the car had a strong gas odor, making my wife and two children nauseous. i have seen several other complaints of this on this website http://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen-durango/190747-gas-fill-overflow-on-my-06-durango-14.html. *tr
When filling the gas tank with gasoline, the gas will come spilling out once the tank is full. approximately a pint of gasoline comes squirting out, dousing the handle, side of the vehicle and leaving a puddle of gasoline on the ground. the only way for this to not happen is to prevent filling the car gas tank. i.e. one cannot let the gas overflow mechanism determine when it is full. a recall was already made for the 2005 durango under recall id# 05v034000. my used 2006 vehicle has the same problem. *js
2006 dodge durango, ever since time of purchase at 96,000 miles every single time i fill up at any gas station (have used over twenty different gas stations to try and remedy the problem) the gas pump will click off, and after waiting about 1 second there will be over a pint of gasoline discharge from the gas tank. this could cause a vehicle fire, and is a hazmat issue with the gasoline being discharged onto the ground on possibly the person filling the vehicle. any quick google search results for 2006 dodge durango gas tank overflow shows thousands of results and multiple videos of the instance. daimler chrysler customer service states there is nothing that they can do for me, and my local dealership says that it is not covered under warranty. this needs resolved before a real accident happens and someone loses a life! *tr
dodge durango gas tank fuel overflow problem. *tr
At about 58,000 miles my 2006 dodge durango began to overflow or spit back a large amount of fuel when topping off the tank. the amount of fuel is about 1/2 to 1 gallon in size and spits out of the filler neck in a flowing spray. it does this every time i fill it till the pump auto shuts off. *tr
