We have classified the 5 complaints from 2006 Dodge Durango about VISIBILITY into the following categories.
Power windows: approximately 2 years ago, the passenger front window slipped down and would not come up. we were told by dodge that it would be @ $500.00 fix (power window motor/labor). we managed to get glass up and left it alone. not long after this, my driver window was broken by a rock and replaced by safelite, just the glass. recently, the driver power window started acting up, fell down in door and broke. when glass was replaced 2nd time, safelite told us the following information: dodge vehicles can only be replaced with dodge glass and that up until @ 2 years ago, the 2 brackets holding the glass to the movable power arm was a metal bracket. this metal bracket has now been replaced with a type of plastic bracket attaching to movable power arm. herein lies the problem: over time, the metal brackets rust from moisture (rain) losing all adhesive in it that holds glass in place. once adhesive is gone, the glass comes out of bracket and drops into door or can fall out. even if glass does not break, there is not an adhesive available that one can try to adhere to groove in bracket to set glass in. therefore, the consumer is forced to purchase a new glass that has new plastic brackets that attach to movable power arm and may be rooked into purchasing new arm/motor. now we know that passenger window problem is lack of bracket adhesive, arm/motor work fine. to make matters worse, our 2003 ram 1500 pick-up is having these same issues with both front windows! rear windows on both vehicles seem to be ok, because they are used much less. the window motors on both vehicles are fine-it is these brackets and lack of adhesion to window glass that is the problem. we could possibly be paying @ $1,500.00 to fix 3 front windows on our vehicles. extreme safety hazard not able to raise/lower window - safelite replacing many dodge windows due to this exact problem. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge durango. the contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the windshield wipers were activated and failed to deactivate until the engine was turned off. a few moments later the left turn signal was engaged; however the right turn signal responded. there was a recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 06v039000 (visibility: windshield wiper/washer: switch/wiring). the vin was not included in the recall. the vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 85,500.
The interior and exterior lights will flash on and off when driving leaving us temporally blind in the dark, and also the wipers work erratically, they will either come by them selves for a few seconds and then turn off, or during rain storms they will work erratically. they will wipe fast for a few seconds, and then slow down to a 2 or 3 second delay between wipes under heavy rain when the switch is set to hi, then they will go fast again for a few seconds, and then slow again. it is a safety concern for my wife driving my two small children in the rain. also the radio audio turns its self down while driving when nobody touches the controls, and the steering wheel controls do not control the audio. i think it is all a connected issue with a defective clock spring which again i have seen many complaints about dodge clock springs being faulty on www.dodgeforum.com. *tr
Turn signal switch malfunctions when it is cold and wet out. will indicate right turn when turning left and vise versa, high beam also malfunctions and will sometimes turn on washer fluid, wiper function also not working right when others fail. seems to be when it is wet and below freezing temperatures. similar complaints all over internet. *tr
Using the windshield wiper on a 2006 dodge durango when the driver side wiper stopped functioning, while driving. the dealer says the whole linkage is broken and would cost $400 to fix. the dealer said that there is no recall on this model and i would have to pay to correct the problem. *tr
Gasket around windshield is deteriorating, producing buzzing sound at 40 mph. *tr
Electrical problems, during cold weather 40 degrees and lower the wiper blades & lights, interior & exterior activate on their own. *tr

Just left my home not driving more than 30 mph when the engine light came on and i lost complete power. was towed to the dealer where i purchased it and they did a "pcm reflash with an instrument panel software update" they also replaced the cluster. now 2 and half months later, i haved moved out of state and once again just leaving my house not going above 30 mph and the same thing happens again. engine light comes on and i lose power, i was barely able to turn the wheel enough to get the vehicle on the side of the road. i was able to start the car again within a couple minutes and safely return home (it was dark), however the engine light was still on and it felt as though it would loose power again, like i was driving with the parking brake on. also on my drive here from california (to indiana) i lost my cruise control. this second incident happend tonight and will have to be towed to dodge dealer tomorrow. *jb
There are several recalls on 2006 dodge durango but my vin # does not show up for any recalls. but i am having the recall problems that are listed below * recall id# 07v092000 - electrical system: instrument panel *recall id# 06v039000 - visibility:windshield wiper/washer:switch/wiring *recall id# 06v067000 - visibility:windshield wiper/washer:motor recall id# 06v044000 - air bags recall id# 06v240000 - suspension:rear recall id# 05v554000 - service brakes, hydraulic:antilock:control unit/module the ones with the * are the major problems that i am having, i drive me truck every night to work and am afraid i will have an accident. i would also like for the other recalls to be checked as well. i have taken truck back to dealer two times and have gotten no results, but i'm still having encountering the problems. on 12/3/07 i called 1-800 # and was told they would get back to me. haven't heard from them. *tr
I have a 2006 dodge durango limited edition suv with blend air heaer system. i purchased this vehicle in november of 2006. this vehicle has been in shop approx five times for defroster not working and still is not fixed. this is a very dangerous condition in winter time as windshield fogs and you have to scrape inside of w/s to see. this has been at dealership numerous times and still is not repaired. defroster will work once in a while but most times not. i don't know if dealer knows how to fix this problem. they seem to be at a loss as far as what the problem is?? are there other durangos with this same complaint that has or has not been resolved?? this obviously has been an ongoing problem with this particular vehicle. i would like to have this repaired before winter approaches in sept/oct of this year. *tr
Intermittent and spontaneous activation of the windshield wipers and washers during operation of the steering wheel under normal driving conditions. steering wheel sound system controls work erratically or in reverse of normal function. ignition remains engaged until switch is recycled. seems to be low temperature related( happens more often in the cooler am). vehicle has been to the dealer multiple times for repair attempts. clock spring, multifunction switch, individual audio controls, and the front control module have been replaced under warranty by the dealer with out correcting the problem. dealer states that chrysler will not authorize additional diagnosis. i am concerned that this is an electrical short in the steering column that may result in air bag deployment, or a vehicle fire, and injuries to my family. chrysler reps will not address the problem when i have repeatedly attempted to contact them via their hotline at 1-800-992-1997. *nm
Complete failure of windshield wiper system in a national rent a car 2006 dodge durango during a torrential rainstorm while traveling 60 mph in the hov lane of i-5 in heavy traffic from los angeles to san diego. we suddenly could not see anything in front of us, and had to cross 5 lanes of traffic coming from behind and beside us to get to the side of the road (there was no curb on the inner hov lane). we narrowly avoided get hit in doing so, and feel fortunate that no one was injured in the process. it was what you would call the "perfect storm" for this kind of failure to have occurred, but i did feel it is important to make sure someone knew about this to make sure this car and its wiper system is checked so that some other family doesn't experience the same thing with more devastating consequences than an inconvenient delay of 3 hours. thank you. *jb
