Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle suddenly stalled in traffic on four occasions. speed does not appear to play a role, as it was different each time. this is the fourth incident within one year. there was no warring prior to each incident. the vehicle restarted immediately. the dealership has been unable to duplicate the problem.

I have a 2005 dodge durango slt (4.7l). on three separate occasions, my vehicle has stalled. the first occurrence was on a busy intersection as i was turning into a gas station. the second time i was pulling into my driveway, and the third time, happened 5/27/2006, i was backing up into my driveway. i am a petite female and i frequently drive long distances alone. this vehicle is a complete safety hazard. i've taken my vehicle to a certified chrysler service center three times and each time i was told that they can not find anything wrong with my vehicle. i am not happy with this vehicle at all, it hasn't been a year yet. at this point, i am considering breaking my lease and signing a contract with another company. *jb

I have a 2005 dodge durango and have had it 1 month. after 1 week of having it, it had stalled out and just died twice. i took it back to the car lot, and they sent it to the dodge dealership, because it is still under original warranty. the dodge place hooked it up to machines, test drove it, and sent it back because they reported they found nothing. it has in the past 3 weeks died or stalled out 3 more times. *nm

On several occasions, my wife's 2005 dodge durango (4.7 liter 8 cylinder - non-hemi) suv has stalled in the middle of traffic. the problem has occurred on several occasions and the vehicle has been brought to the dealer for servicing and this problem has been expressly noted. the service manager maintains he knows nothing about a problem and he can find nothing wrong with the vehicle. just yesterday, the vehicle stalled in the middle of a busy washington, dc intersection and my wife was almost broadsided as a result. this is a huge problem and chrysler (at least this dealer - tysons dodge jeep) does not seem to care one bit about it. the vehicle was purchased new and now has approximately 8,000 miles. i understand there is an active investigation into the problem and my question is: what is it going to take for someone to take corrective action? are lives going to have to be lost? it appears that chrysler is well aware of the situation and is choosing to close its eyes to the problem. nhtsa should not allow this to happen. too much is at risk and chrysler is making a great deal of money off of these vehicles. we paid well over $30k for this vehicle. please provide any suggestions that you may have for fixing this problem. *nm

Vehicle shuts off while driving, causing the steering wheel to lock up creating a very serious and dangerous situation. has happened more than 10 times over a 4 or 5 month period. first time it occurred i went to the dealership (garber auto mall - green cove springs fl) and told them of the problem. i was told that dodge was aware of the problem and were researching a fix, but did not have one at the current time. it happened again a few weeks later, at which point i took it to the dealership to have it looked at. learned that a co-worker's 2005 dodge durango had the same problem a week earlier. this time i was told that dodge had never heard of the problem before. i also called the main dodge 1-800 number and filed a complaint with them and was instructed to give the complaint number to the dealership and tell them to call dodge while the truck was in the shop. not sure if they called or not. garber dodge told me they serviced the transmission and replaced some gaskets that failed causing air to be sucked into the system and potentially causing the computer to fail, but they weren't sure if it would fix the problem since they couldn't duplicate it. my co-workers dealership found some loose wiring going to the main computer which they adjusted and told him this may not fix the problem. on 20 apr 2006 the problem occurred again to my vehicle. i took it to the dealership the very next morning. garber dodge kept the vehicle that day and part of the following day. the next day we were given the vehicle back and told they could not find anything wrong with it and didn't do anything to fix the problem. advised us if it happened again to just bring it back in and they would look at it again. i have already filed a second complaint with dodge, this time doing it through their email contact portion. this is a very serious and potentially fatal problem that it seems dodge and their dealerships are not too concerned with. *jb

Coming to quick stop at a traffic light my 2005 dodge durango stalled. it restarted without any problem. *jb

My 2005 hemi durango has stalled on three occasions recently. twice while i was backing out of the driveway, and another time when i was coming up to a stop sign. *nm

05 durango with 5.7 hemi stalls when driving. sometimes when backing up sometimes when coming to stop sign or light, or sometimes when driving on roads at different speeds. this is the worst scenario because power steering and brakes also go. has not caused accident for us yet, but cam close when my fiancee was driving. chrysler is aware of problem and has tried to fix and has given me every excuse in the book. finally has decided to replace car but with hefty mileage charge. i will fight them on that but i wanted you to be aware that all of their so called service bulletins do not fix problem. one excuse i got is that the epa won't let them fix the problem because it will effect the emissions output. i realize this is a problem for only a small amount of vehicles but it will only be a matter of time before someone is injured or killed due to the engine stalling. *tr

We bought the 2005 dodge durango in june 2005. it worked great until about october when it began to stall out. this would usually happen right after starting the car. the other day i was driving down the road with my three children, all under five, going about 40 mph when everything in the car shut off. my steering wheel locked, i had no brakes, no electrical, nothing. the entire car shut off. i had no control of anything. i went into oncoming traffic lanes. luckily there was no one in those lanes. i managed to get the car to stop after pulling into a parking lot. after a few minutes the car started again. i was only a few blocks from home so i tried to drive back home. car stalled again a few minutes later. i parked it. it went to the dealership and they replaced the ignition and flashed the computer. the day they gave it back to me it happened again. right away it went back to the dealership. they have had it ever since. it's been seven days and not even a phone call. i am hesitant to take this car back or be putting my children in it again. something needs to be done about this. i was lucky this time and do not plan to try my luck again. people could die from this serious problem. apparently i am not the only one. *nm

I purchased my 2005 dodge durango last march and in june it started stalling while i was driving! it would happen while driving in town and i noticed it a lot when i made right turns. there was no warning...didn't make any sounds, no lights came on...i would just try to push the gas and there was nothing. it was all i could do to get it pulled off the road and avoid getting hit! this happened about 5 times within a two week period before i thought it was fixed. the first time it occurred i took it straight to the dealership and they could find nothing wrong. the computer did not pick up any errors and there was nothing they could do for me. then after it happened a few more times i took it straight there again and they found a software update. this seemed to have fixed it. so i thought until now. last week it started again...1 time while making a right turn. i came very close to getting hit and now i have a 3 month old baby riding in the car to worry about also. so, i thought great here we go again. i waited for it to happen once more before i took it back to the dealership and a few days later it happened again while making a right turn in town. again, they are saying there are no errors in the computer and they have no idea how to fix the problem or that it is even "really" happening! so in other words i am making this up! this time i was not taking my car back until i could be absolutely sure that it is safe to drive. it took me an hour of going round and round with them before they broke down and gave me a rental. they are going to have one of their mechanics test it for a few days and try to get it to happen while he is driving it. in the mean time, i am filing for the lemon law which could take up to four weeks and i know they are not going to let me keep a rental for that long! so i have no idea what i ...

While making a turn in my 2005 hemi durango, the engine shut off in the middle of the road. luckily nobody was coming otherwise i would have been hit, as i had to restart the vehicle. *jb

2005 dodge durango 4.7l. vehicle stalled while in traffic. everything completely dead. no power at all. vehicle restarted after a few minutes. vehicle died again while making a low speed right hand turn in traffic. restarted again. dealership states nothing wrong. even though vehicle continually stumbles at idle but does not produce any failure codes. this is extremely dangerous to be happening in traffic. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. while approaching a stop, the check engine light illuminated and the vehicle shut down. the dealer was unable to diagnose or duplicate the failure. the manufacturer stated that because the dealer could not diagnose the failure, they would be unable to assist. the current mileage was 84,000 and failure mileage was 8,000.

2005 dodge durango 5.7l hemi, engine stalls within the first 10-15 minutes of driving, typically at 45 mph. it has happened numerous times and the dealership has not been able to locate the problem. most recently, the loss of power, nearly caused a crash as i had no steering nor brakes when the engine stalled. may be related to nhtsa action number ea05018?? *jb

Vehicle has stalled thre times. once while on a curve, another while backing out of the driveway and the other time while stopping at a light. took to dealer, and was told there was an issue that chrysler is trying to correct. told that vehicle has updated software and nothing was done to try and correct the problem.*ak

I purchased a 2005 dodge durango from delamaker dodge, watertown, ny, in dec of 2005. the vehicle had 218 miles on it. a few weeks later i was involved in an accident and hit a tree and telephone pole. dealmaker and the insurance company determined that the vehicle would not be totaled, but rather repaired. i have had nothing but problems with the vehicle. my biggest comcern is that the vehicle shuts off on me while operating. i have contacted chrysler and i am told that they can do nothing because it is a repair issue. dealmaker states that it is manufacture defect. most recently dealmaker drove my vehicle for 3 weeks and put 500 miles on it, but found no trouble. two hours after i picked the vehicle up it shut off on me and the check engine light came on. both are issues that have been ongoing and both were the reason they had my vehicle. the main computer shorted out and was replaced a few months ago. i was told that was a manufacturer defect as well.*jb

Dt*: the contact stated the engine intermittently stalls while idling in stop and go traffic without prior warning. although the vehicle was seen by a dealer, the dealer was unable to determine the problem. *nm

Dodge durango stalling while driving and turning. *jb

The engine has quit twice now while accelerating away from a stop. once the engine stalls, it cannot be re-started. in fact, the engine will not crank. the first time this occurred in november of 2005, the vehicle was towed back to the dealership where the pcm was re-programmed. now during the second incident, the dealership is claiming that there is nothing wrong with the vehicle. *jb

2005 dodge durango stopped working while driving. *ts ***no answer required*** the vehicle was taken to the dealer and hooked up to a diagnostic machine. the technician was unable to diagnose or pinpoint the problem. almost a month alter the vehicle would not start. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the replaced the main computer. even after that part was replaced the vehicle continued to stall, have difficulty starting, rough idle and was slow at take off. *nm

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. while driving 10 mph, the vehicle stalled. the contact took the vehicle to a mechanic, but the failure was unable to be duplicated. the failure has occurred numerous times and nearly caused a crash. the was a prior investigation regarding the failure, but it has been closed. the current mileage was 27,467 and failure mileage was 9,000.

2005 dodge durango (hemi) my dodge has randomly cut off on me during low speeds or turning into certain areas. it has happened 3 times to me and once to my wife. i came very close to taking out my mail box last night. my steering wheel even locked up. i called the dealer and they told me nothing like this has ever come up at their dealer. very odd. i love the vehicle but i am very worried about my families well being. what should i do? i paid way to much money to have to worry about this kind of stuff. *jb

Vehicle stalls and a complete loss of power for no reason. *nm the consumer stated chrysler installed a co-pilot in the vehicle and the stalling was captured. updated *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that when the vehicle stopped the motor shook, and the vehicle shut off. the failure began six months after the vehicle was purchased. the contact took the vehicle to get repaired on three occasions, but the problem recurred. the current mileage was 30,000, and failure mileage was 5,000.*ak

Dt*: the consumer stated the vehicle stalls intermittently. this occurs while driving, stopping or pulling up to a stop light without warning. the stalling occurs at various speeds. the dealership was unable to read the information from the computer in the vehicle. a co-pilot was placed in the vehicle and the dealer still could not retrieve the information. *jb

2005 dodge durango with 5.7 hemi stalled at low speed on 5 separate occasions so far (6000k miles). took vehicle to dealer along with documentation from nhtsa website about this problem. dealer did not know about the problem and was unable to replicate problem nor find any fault codes for the failure. they did reset all adaptive memory and modules and reported the idle is at a higher setting than before. will wait and see if this truly fixes the problem. *jb

2005 dodge durango hemi stalls while turning dealer has "flashed" the ecu (updating the powertrain control module per service bulletin). *nm

I have a dodge durango 2005 with a hemi 5.7l engine. i am having a problem with it stalling when i make a slow turn. it has only 2450 miles on it and it has stalled several times. when it stalls, i loose power steering and it has almost caused me to be in an accident. this has happened about a dozen times. *jb

Bought 2005 dodge durango slt on 10/21/05. on 10/25/05 it idled down and cut off but no service light came on took to dealer and they said couldn't find anything. i have called or been to the dealer 46 times from 10/05 -11/06. no panel lights came on so they stated they couldn't fix it, but the durango will idle down and cut off in park or at low speeds. october 2006 dealer changed the cluster and problem stopped for a week. then started again either at idle or in park. 12/06 i took back due to it started to cut off while driving. but still no panel lights and nothing showing on computer. in january 2007 was driving and cut off in the middle of crossing traffic and another car had to swerve around took back to dealer. the dealer added 1 qt of transmission fluid and problem stopped for 3 days. then idle down and cutting off again. then did a transmission flush due to technical support recommendations. drove for 4 days and it cut off when turning and lost power had to slam brakes to miss a pole. next day driving down rd and cut off had to hit brakes to stay out of the ditch because i was on a curve. i have children and this is a safety issue. first incident date was 10/25/05-present(1/21/07) *jb

My car stalls at different times and i lose all ability to steer and has come very close to causing a serious accident. the dealership has never been able to find a problem but it has happened at least 20 times in the last two years and left no codes. the dealership just says no codes no answer. *tr

While reversing out of driveway, my 2005 dodge durango with 2200 miles stalled and could not be started for another 10 minutes. all electrical and power shut off. had to push the vehicle out of the middle of the street. *nm

The check engine light is on 24/7 the truck has been to the dealership , in the shop 15 times in the past year to try and fix the problem they have not been able fix it they tell me that it's an emission problem because they just can't meet the emission requirements on my truck and a lot of others . they sent me away and said the light being on will not stop the truck from running, and that when they figure out how to fix the problem they will call me so am i just supposed to drive the truck until the light burns out ? and what if there is another problem how would i know ? because the light is always on. *jb

Vehicle stalled at a stop. no dash warning lights illuminated at stall. second time this has happened. vehicle taken to dealer for service after first incident. dealer stated that they cleared fault codes and drove for fifteen miles with no problem first time. i am taking back to a different dealer now. *jb

Dt: vehicle stalled intermittently and without warning while the caller was driving. it happens mostly at low speeds. the caller said the vehicle will start back up. dealer said a software change was needed to the control module. this was performed and the problem was still occurring. manufacturer said they were unaware of any problem like that.*ak

While sitting at a red light on 9/9/05 my 2005 dodge durango with 5.7 hemi engine shut itself down. after getting it started again the check engine light remained on. took to the dealer who did not write on the service order that the car stalled as i told them. dealer found no problem, and gave me a sheet stating that computers sometimes have hickups. while at the dealer, i met others with same problem on the 5.7 hemi engines. this motor apparently has a defect.*jb

2005 dodge durango slt with 5.7 hemi stalled for no apparent reason coming from a stop light. *nm

Vehicle was in gear and either slowing to a stop or already stopped. the engine rpm's dropped below 500 and then recovered very briefly (~1 second) before stalling. the engine was idling very rough during the drop/recovery phase before stalling. this incident occurred 5 times within a 1 hour period. *jb

Dt: the consumer stated that the 2005 dodge durango stalled. this was the second time that the truck stalled. the consumer said that the engine was just shutting off. the speed that the consumer was driving was around 15-25 mph. the truck has been the repair shop, and the dealership did not know what was wrong with the truck as of now. the dealer changed and updated the software. the consumer did not think that the software made a difference in the performance of the truck. damiler/chrysler was called, and they suggested that the consumer contact their dealer. this failure seemed to be intermittent. there has been diagnostic testing on the vehicle, and have not been able to trace down the problem. *ak the dealer replaced the maf sensor. *nm

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. at relatively low speeds, the vehicle stalls without warning. the vehicle is usually able to be restarted after the failure occurs. the vehicle has not been inspected to determine the cause of the failure. the failure mileage was 100 and current mileage was 75,000.

My 2005 dodge durango has an engine stalling problem. it currently has 13000 miles on it. i bought it brand new in dec. since then it has stalled on us about 6 times at various speeds in drive and in reverse. i have called the local dealership 3 times now and nothing is being done about it. they continue to tell me that they have never heard of this problem and do not know what is causing it. this is a problem that concerns me because i use this vehicle to cart around my very young children so i need some thing reliable. please help to get this problem taken care of soon. *jb

Dt: the contact stated the brakes failed and the vehicle stalled. when she put the vehicle into reverse it revved, but did not go anywhere. the vehicle then stalled with no warning lights. this happened eight to nine times. the brakes have failed three times, almost rear ending a truck. the brakes will not respond when pressed. she has to take foot and slam it to the floor for the vehicle to stop. the vehicle has been to the dealership for both problems multiple times, but they could not duplicate either problem. they thought it may be a computer glitch. these problems happened separately. *ak updated 1/4/2006 - *nm

Engine stalls at freeway/highway speeds causing loss of control - numerous electrical failures - transmission - a/c blows both cold & hot air at same time - power switches getting hot to touch - repairing dealer has been unable to fix - each time it is worked on - problems multiply after they flash/reprogrammed pcm/computer

While driving in stop-and-go traffic on sunday july 17, 2005, my 2005 dodge durango (~1700 miles) engine shut off. i placed the car in neutral (i was still rolling) and was able to stop the vehiucle and restart the engine. i took the car into a 5-star dealership (where it was purchased from) and they kept the vehicle for 2 days. the service department conclusion was that they could find no trouble. i have seen similar failures with this vehicle on the nhtsa website, so i feel confident that this is not an isolated case.

Had driven 05 durango about 5 miles. when braking to enter the driveway at home, vehicle engine shut off. no power at all. vehicle has 4513 miles with a 5.7l hemi.

Four times between the months of february and july 2005 my vehicle has stalled while driving at slow speeds. also, the vehicle would not start daily each morning for a period of two weeks. the vehicle would be jump started and run correctly during the day, however, when left overnight, the battery would be dead. the dealer could not provide an answer for the stalling. regarding the electrical, they tested the draw and held the vehicle for two weeks. after several days, they indicated that it was an electrical device behind the dash board. the electrical problem has been fixed, however, the stalling continues.

I bought a 2005 dodge durango a week ago and it has stalled out 2 times.

On 4 seperate occasions vehicle engine has stalled for no apparent reason. most recent event occured on toll bridge nearly causing accident/loss of control of vehicle.

My husbands 2005 dodge durango 5.7 hemi, purchased in may, stalled three times already. the first two times it stalled he was turning into a parking lot. it happened at 1,281 miles. we took the car in and they road tested the vehicle and could not duplicate the problem. they recommended further diagnosis if condition persist. well it has, my husband was driving on the highway while it was snowing when his windshield wipers stopped working causing him to make an emergency stop on the side of the highway. when he got back into the car to drive, the durango stalled again!! it only has 8,000 miles on it. the dealer has it and they have no clue what is going on. someone is going to get hurt or worse die because of this stalling condition. *jb

The vehicle has been in for service several times for stalling problems , recently brought in again on 06-20-05 for stalling , vehicle is hard to start then will stall after starting , also still stalls out in turns at various speeds, manufacturer still won't recognize the problem as a serious safety hazard
