We have classified the 3 complaints from 2002 Dodge Durango about EQUIPMENT into the following categories.
I just found out today that i will need to install a completely new set of front wheel bearings, tie rods and ball joints after factory recall. according to repair shop they installed the same faulty components to replace the ones that were recalled. i was told they should have installed the correct units with grease fittings, they did not. going to cost $980.00 to repair. *tr
I am making a complaint about the 2002 dodge durangos. the oil pressure keeps going low and now the engine has blown. it was not time for an oil change and we keep our oil changed as we are suppose to. this would be the second engine we would have put in this vehicle but the first time it was still covered under the manufactures warranty and was paid for by them but now the warranty has expired. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2002 dodge durango. the vehicle was repaired in 2007 according to nhtsa campaign id number 06v339000 (electrical system). afterwards, the heating unit failed to work properly. there were no failures prior to the recall repair. the contact also smelled a burning odor whenever the heating unit was activated. the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under recall and they could no longer assist. the vin was unknown. the failure and current mileages were less than 100,500.
I have had to have the vacuum hoses replaced in my 2002 dodge durango 4 times since buying it in july of 2003. the check engine light comes on every time. i have complained to the dealership that has worked on it, but they don't seem to care. i had one of the mechanics say they have seen the problem before when i had him show me where the hoses were located. the hoses were cracked and looked like they had been on the car for 10 years or more, but in actuallity it had only been months. everytime, i have had to pay $75 to have the hose replaced even though i had the extended warranty. my durango is now out of warranty and the check engine light came on again. i went to a parts store to have them hook up to the computer to get the error code--vacuum leak again. when the parts store guy looked under the hood to get the right length of hose to give me(going to change it myself and not pay to have it fixed), he said it had not even been replaced with vacuum hose. instead, one was replaced with fuel line hose and the other replaced with tranmission hose. this is an ongoing problem that i have had and it doesn't seem to matter to them. it isn't a serious problem, but is still a problem. if the hose is degrading that quickly, it must be submitted to high temperatures which could lead to a big problem. *nm
2002 dodge durango slt 2wd: ball joints were replaced after recall was issued, however about 6 months after they were replaced, the exact same noises began occurring again. took car to dealer with the complaint and they denied the new ball joints were worn. upon getting new front tires installed at sears (about 3 months after the dealership inspected the joints) they inspected the car without being asked (it is part of their service) and on the report they issued, it said the ball joints were indeed worn. the recall notices i have read about the replacement of the original ball joints state that if the joints fail you can lose control of the vehicle, so obviously i am in fear that my car can fail at any given time. i am writing this to make it aware that i have already had the recall replacement, but fear that the replacements are also defective as indicated by an independent, unsolicited inspection. *nm
1-electrical system on overhead digital compass system became very hot. this electrical component system did not work for a period of a few days. it has intermittently worked now. 2-when you turn the steering wheel there is a horrible noise coming from one of the rear wheels. it makes a "woo-woo" sound every time the vehicle is turned, primarily turning right. a "honest" mechanic, who is a friend, told me that dodge (chrysler) was infamous for this type of wheel problem. 3-the transmission seems to have a hard time shifting, which involves the above wheel problem. 4-the air conditioning system does not cool and the vehicle is only 4 years old. 5-the leather covered dash is peeling up and began last summer, when the vehicle was only 3 years old. contacted chrysler/dodge hq and dealership and both have refused to repair problem.
Two months ago, a new frame was installed on my 2002 dodge durango. on sept. 14, 2003 my daughter was in an accident on interstate 26 coming to my home. she said the car went out of control and she hit the concrete wall and ended up in the side of interstate. the driver side of the axle looks like it broke. the tire has not been found yet which has the studs, hub etc. *jb
Main support bracket on front frame of vehicle was only partly welded from factory. this held the support suspension on vehicle. before it broke i did report possible front end problem with the dealership. they said there was no problem. the vehicle broke down out of town on may 7 03. it is still broke. they said it need a brand new frame from factory. this vehicle only has 31000 miles on it. i have only put 2500 miles on vehicle since i had it. 2002 durango. i feel there are more vehicles out there like this.*ak

While driving home on march 12, 2010 my 2002 dodge durango slt began to overheat and it shut down on me. i called and had my car towed to a mechanic who inspected the car. he stated the engine will need to be replaced due to the oil sludge which caused the engine to overheat leading to engine failure. prior to this incidence the maintenance was well done and there was no signals which would have alarmed me that a problem was occurring. it is alarming to me see thousands of other consumers who has experienced the same problem which goes to show that my incident was no an isolated one. *tr
