Since purchase of 2000 (new) dodge durango 5.9l 4 wheel drive, the transmission has been serviced several times at great amounts of cost. i rarely use 4 wheel drive and take care of each required service. on the internet i notice several similar/same complaints. the 4 wheel drive light stuck on and the transmission is stuck in 4 wheel with no indication of going into 2 wheel/neutral or other wise. *tr

2000 dodge durango, when my car had 70,000 miles on it, there was a recall of the ball joints. my durango now has 100,000+ miles and it is making the same popping noise in the front end. my mechanic says that it needs new ball joints again. i feel dodge replaced the ball joints with the same defective parts as the original parts. this is a safety issue. when i contacted dodge i was told via e-mail that warranty was only until 10 years or 100,000 miles. they did not count on owners keeping this vehicle. this is a safety issue that i feel dodge should stand behind. *jb

Problems with engine and engine components oil gauge not working, ticking in moter oil leaking. was told i need new moter. also strange noises from steering colomn. truck only has 79,000 miles i am requesting chrysler recall this truck and stand behind their company and fix what is wrong with these engines, ect.*ak

I previously complained about steering problem with 2000 dodge durango. i paid nearly $2,000.00 in october 2003 to have problem fixed. it still pulled to the left. mechanic said that it was because the tires were worn out. i just bought new tires and the car pulls to the right real bad. i went back to the tire store they replaced the front left tire and i still have problem. i am concerned for my and my families safety. when i go over a bump or train track or groove in the road my car jumps to the left. *ak

This complaint is related to the dodge durango front suspension upper ball joints and control arms wearing out prematurely. at 28,433 miles i experienced front suspension problems. the local chrysler dealership could not find anything wrong. at 38,801 miles "they" were able to pinpoint the problem and replaced the front and rear sway bar bushings and inner and outer tie rods. at 45,390 miles the problem reocurred and the tie rods, upper ball joints and control arms were replaced again! after reading the related article on your website, i wanted to express my concern and encourage you to further your investigation.*ak

The steering, suspension, and wheels suck!!! on my 2000 dodge durango.n feb. 15, 2003 while driving my durango, it totally lost control, causing me to side swipe one car, then cause damage to a second and third car. i continue to drive a vehicle that i do not feel safe in. with four children i can not afford to purchase another car. if i could get out of my contract with dodge and trade it in for a safer suv, i would. when riding i constantly experience my rear wheels sliding to my right; this usually happens whenever i ride over pot holes or bumps in the street, which is practically evey couple dozen feet in the city. my driving experience with my 2000 dodge durango is so unsatisfying. prior to me purchasing my dodge, i was the owner of not one, but two toyota camry's. i made the choice not to go back to the toyota dealer to purchase an suv. instead, as a token of my appreciation to my country. i thought it was best to purchase an american made vehicle; you know, keep the money at home. every day i questioned that theory. usually i'm not this harsh of a person, but when it comes down to my children's safety; well, i get pretty pissed. we limit our long distance traveling time. i totally do not drive when its raining, unless i absolutely have to. on highways i drive at least 5-10 miles under the speed limit; for fear of losing control. and to top things off i have this grinding type noise up and around my axle thing; that no one at the two dodge repair garages seems to know what it is exactly. i had my ball joints replaced twice. one month after i got brand new brakes put on, they started to squeak. i was told that the majority of dodge suv's brakes squeak, its just how the manufacturers make them; go figure. *ak ...

Consumer was driving with 4-wheel drive engaged and had to make a u-turn. while completing u-turn, consumer noticed did not have any brake function. stopped car and removed key from ignition. engine stopped, but radio and dash lights remained lit. consumer drove home and again removed key and radio and dash remained operative. consumer was charging a flashlight which was plugged into the cigarette lighter. consumer removed charger and radio and dash turned off. plugged charger back in and radio/dash turned back on. ts

My 2000 dodge durango with approximately 30,000 miles on it mysteriously and unexpectedly burst into flames in the front end. within sixty seconds, the entire vehicle was engulfed and became a total loss. three various fire investigators were unable to determine the resultant cause of the blaze.*ak

At 32,000 we had severe shaking while applying brakes . we took our truck in to have it looked at, shop said that front brake rotors were bad and had to be replaced, they could not be turned . had them both replaced with after market rotors . a/c clutch assy replaced at 39000 , at 40000 miles we noticed a groaning and sqeaking noise coming from the drivers front wheel when exiting the vehicle ,and noticed an oily substance on driveway under truck . we had both problems looked at , found 4 bad ball joints 1 needs replacing imediately, also rack and pinion seals are bad . est. $1700.00 to repair joints and rack. ball joints are sealed and cannot be greased , they should last alot longer than 40000 miles .

When jacking vehicle up front right wheel drops off.*ak

Air conditioner is blowing freon into cab of vehicle. very dangerous. please provide any further information.*ak

Transmission "grabbing" and "slipping" in all gears. most noticable on the highway. transmission goes from overdrive to one and sometimes two lower gears at highway speed. vehilcle will jump and sputter. vehicle was taken to dealer who did not get it repaired. it was also taken to my local mechanic, who says it's a lemon. (i have no faith in the dealer who sold me the garbage after they claimed to have not figured my fianancing correctly abd hit me with a $975 additional fee.) ellenville dodge. *ak

When requiring to stop quickly, front brakes lock up, and vehicle skids, rear anti-locks work but dont keep vehicle from skidding. clicking noise from under dash when this happens. have had several accidents due to this problem. even at 35 mph on dry street they still lock up. dealer wouldnt talk to me, refered me to dodge complaints, they tested the brake system and read that the computer showed no failure in braking system.

1) replaced rack & pinion @ 41k miles 2) passenger window has been repaired 4 times at dealer and is working more poorly than ever before 3) two batteries replaced in first 2 years-i'm on my third now 4) suv towed due to air bag light. *jb
