Recently reported VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL problems on 2000 Dodge Durango

Tl* the contact owns a 2000 dodge durango. while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle lost power without warning. the vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road. the failure recurred multiple times. the contact stated that the sensors were replaced (throttle position sensor, crankshaft, speed cam, aic, spark plug wires, rotors and distributor cup, distributor rotor, ignition coil, map sensor). the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 138,000.

Purchased the vehicle locally. after 2 days of owning it the vehicle would shut off at random moments. sometimes when i am driving at 40mph and sometimes at 20mph and under. in traffic and sometimes after being parked for a bit will not startup. when we are driving and the engine shuts off the steering wheel locks up also. the vehicle may take hours before it starts again. there has been many many complaints and still no real solution. the 1999 to 2001 durangos must be recalled before a fatality occurs. *tr

I own a 2000 dodge durango, and it often will just shut down while i'm driving. i have owned it since october 2008, and this has happened 12 or 13 times. i receive a "no bus" signal on my odometer display. i have replaced battery terminals, and a battery. it seems to happen far more often in hot weather. it sometimes happens when i'm driving 65 mph on the freeway, and then the car shuts down and i lose power steering (very dangerous), brakes (even more dangerous) and the accelerator doesn't function. *tr

The cruise control and horn quit working. i was checking the internet to see what could be wrong with it. i found the recall for replacing the clockspring in the steering wheel and this could cause my problems plus cause my air bag to not deploy in an accident. i contacted the dealer and was told my # (*)was not included and to call chrysler, which i did. i was told the same thing and that i should take it to be fixed and then if it were added to the recall i would be reimbursed. i don't feel i should be responsible for this repair and i don't have the money for it. what happens if i'm in an accident like the ones i've read in some of these other complaints and my air bag does not deploy. is it just sol or can i sue chrysler? i feel they should include mine and the others in the recall. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 dodge durango. the vehicle surged uncontrollably between 60-80 mph before the brakes engaged. the failure occurred on two occasions. the service shop attempted to repair the vehicle, but they could not. the second time the failure occurred, the vehicle was taken to a different dealer. they were able to properly make the repair according to the service bulletin that the manufacturer issued for the vehicle. the failure mileage was 110,000 and current mileage was 110,200. updated 11/20/07

I own a 2000 dodge durango that shuts down while driving. it was a dangerous situation because i did not know when the situation will occur. sometimes it happened when i was in heavy traffic. so far, the air intake sensor and the throttle control sensors have been replaced. this did not fix the problem.*ak

Dt: 2000 dodge durango. the consumer had a problem fixed twice. the consumer went to have the problem fixed for the third time, and the mechanic shop told her that they contacted chrysler, and chrysler told the mechanic shop this was a very common problem. the problem was a cluster for the dashboard. the consumer stated the engine revved very loudly just sitting still. also while driving, and even in cruise control. chrysler said all they could do was put a note in consumer's file. *ak

Dt: the contact stated vehicle suddenly accelerated. has been involved in three accidents as a result of not being able to stop the vehicle. the contact's foot was on the brake pedal with the pedal completely depressed all three times. the police were present after all three accidents, but no reports were taken. the insurance company paid for cosmetic body damage repairs to the vehicle after the accidents. the vehicle has not been to a dealership for inspection or diagnostic testing. *ak

Recall 04v200000 concerning throttle control cable. dealer refused to honor manufacturer's recall notice. dealer insisted that consumer take vehicle to the dealer from which they purchased their vehicle. *ak

The vehicle was in the park position, when the consumer turned the key, the vehicle just accelerated. the vehicle spun around, made a left hand cut going into a ditch and hitting a tree. there were injuries. the consumer had a broken right leg. the air bags did deploy. please provide any further information. *jb

1.) separation upper ball joint - noticed a loud noise from the front driver side...sounded like rubbing. goodyear rotated the tires which didn't help. they later diagnosed it as the ball joints failing. i remembered seeing the recall investigation on the news and took it immediatley for diagnosis. estimated repair is $700.00. i also have several other issues, such as 1.) creaking noise from rear driver side - sounds like springs 2.) noise from rear a/c when front air is off. 3.) i also had to replace the speed sensor.*ak

While driving cruise control engaged. dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. *ak

While merging onto the freeway the vehicle accelerated up to 60- 65 mph as if the cruise control was activated. the consumer states, "he was unable to get the vehicle to stop for 15 miles or more until it was safe to drive unto a grassy area". the dealer was not notified at this time. please provide any further information. *nm

When applying the brakes vehicle went into full acceleration. no impact reported. dealer stated that brake pedal sensor switch failed. *ak

Upper and lower ball joints unusual wear, replaced at 70000 miles. also dealer and oil change place said sludge in engine. i regularly change my oil, the intake maniford gasket blew and caused engine to knock and have sludge. speed sensor in rear axle went bad, causing speedometer and abs system failure. *ak

Consumer states fender fell off drivers side, dealer installed two wheel well fasteners, consumer states that rail dust covers vehicle at rear, consumer states rattling, squeaking, crunching or moaning noise throughout vehicle over bumps, dealer replaced anti rattle clip, and both rear left springs, vehicle lunges forward with brake on at stops, dealer found throttle valve was scored and replaced valve body, transmission hesitates or will not engage when brakes are applied, dealer replaced all seals, clutches, and cleaned and inspected overdrive, shift linkage out of adjustment, on several occasions, engine pings on acceleration, dealer unable to duplicate, concerns with broken rear seat latches and seat not flipping forward, dealer performed clockspring safety recall 01v153000. *tt

I was driving my 2000 dodge durango on the freeway at approx. 70mph. suddenly, the vehicle accelerated to full throttle on its own. the cruise control was not engaged. my foot was off the gas pedal and the car kept accelerating. i tapped the gas pedal with my foot to attempt to raise it with no effect. i down shifted to second gear with no effect. i engaged and disengaged the cruise control with no effect. the only way i could prevent the car from continuing to accelerate was to brake and release while i crossed three lanes of traffic. at no time did i have my foot on the gas pedal. as i exited the freeway it became increasingly difficult to control the car while fighting the engine power with the brake pressure. i shut the engine off and coasted to the side of the road. we could have easily had a collision and we are fortunate no one was hurt as a result of this very serious safety defect. *ak

Driving on to and on ramp at about 7mph the truck began accelerating on its own. brakes were applied and we spinned out of control to the left and hit a gaurdrail, causing damage to the front bumper/right fender and radiator, maybe more i will get and actuall cost estimate today. it seems to me that the crusie control is activating by itself. *ak

The vehicle accelerator is sticking. yh

While driving about 10 mph and when applying brake pedal vehicle kept accelerating. this happened twice.*ak

Impact to front of vehicle caused the cruise control servo to pull the cruise control cable fastener out of its bracket after the retaining tabs broke off. this caused the engine to race out of control, well over 3,000rpm. the vehicle eventually stopped by crashing into a wall!! i have the report from the insurance investigator to substantiate the cause, i feel this is a defect in the vehicle and could possibly happen again if a similar impact takes place. the occupants may not be as fortunate as my husband and i, we walked away, others may not!

When starting up car accelerated without applying brakes.*ak *ml
