vehicle dies at stop light. i push it to the side of the road to investigate. vehicle engine cranks but doesn't fire. on odometer display it says no bus. fuel pump not coming on when ignition is turned on . i walk to parts store and buy fuel pump relay ,or circuit breaker. put it in , fuel pump comes on engine starts . wife is driving it two days later . vehicle dies in busy intersection . nice people push her off the road way. she calls me , i tell her to take circuit breaker to parts store and get new one. she replaces breaker ,she's on the road again. so now i do some reading find out circuit breakers just get hot stop working , cool down and work again. so some thing is drawing too much current. replace the fuel pump and filter , big pain in the you know what. vehicle dies two days later. nice man pulls me off the road. i leave vehicle sit for an hour . vehicle starts back up. so i just go on vehicle dies on me all the time. fast food lines ,busy intersections, it dies every where , every temp. i don't let mommy drive it anymore. i don't trust it to carry my baby anymore. i cant sell it . i have read about people having same exact problems . they say replace fuel pump ,did it. replace computer , did that. several years ago dealer ship put new computer in cost me $1200. all for a problem similar to this one. vehicle died at stop lights , but started up right away. i have replaced so many parts , every thing is new. i cant trust it . its very unsafe . i cant knowingly sell it to some body. thanks dodge. *tr
My 1999 dodge durango has a leaking gas line hose that goes to the fuel tank. the complaint i have is that i checked with 2 dodge dealerships and both told me that the hoses were not available and not made anymore. the one that is leaking is the filler hose that is 14" long and has a 1" i.d. it looks like it has been rubbing against something and is getting gouged up and now has a hole in it. i have check with auto parts places and was told that this is not a common gas line filler hose. i know the vehicle is over 7 yrs old, but only have 76500 miles on it. i ask one dealership what was i supposed to do, junk my vehicle, and he said yes that sounds like a good idea. please help. i would also like to find out if there are any other people that are having the same problem, and any other recalls. this suv was bought by my son, new in 1999, and i purchased it from him in 12/2004 with 50,000 miles on it. *tr

My dodge durango (1999) started stalling at random times two summers ago. it took me many trips to the dealer and alot of research on the internet and a yell fest with the dodge field rep. but i got it fixed. they had no idea what was wrong with it, it is the pcm(power control module).....finally convinced them they didn't want a lawsuit on their hands if my family was killed due to this major defect in durangos, mainly 1999 from what i have read. pcm replaced, no problems with stalling since. *tr

Dt*: the contact stated that the engine malfunctioned in the vehicle as early as june first of 2005. the vehicle was taken to the dealers and left with them for one week to under-go diagnostic testing. the dealer determined through the testing that the problem was pertaining to the fuel pump and replaced the part. the vehicle began to experience more problems concerning stalling and all the warning lights illuminating. the vehicle was taken back to the dealers who replaced the water pump. one week later, the vehicle experienced similar problems including water dripping from the bottom of the motor. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced gasket of the water pump. the vehicle stalled while driving on the highway during morning rush hour traveling at 30 mph. it was towed to the dealer who determined that the #3 cylinder had no compression, the coolant was coming out of the freeze plug, transmission fluid was dripping and the motor was shot. there were no further services done to the vehicle due to the extensive costs.
I have a 1999 dodge durango with 73,000 miles. we had the transmission replaced and other major repairs done to it last year. since then it has given us nothing but trouble. this car is our family car so we travel everywhere with the kids in the back. it has stalled and died on us often. at times on the freeway in the middle of traffic and other times in the middle of intersections. the power steering goes and so do the brakes. i have been lucky so far in avoiding accidents. the mechanics can not find out what is wrong with it so nothing is done about it. the fuel lines have been checked and replaced and so has the fuel pump and the same problem continues. *jb
Abs light & brake warning lights come on intermittently while driving, when lights were on brakes were touchy. and forget trying to slow or stop when it's raining. front driver side control arms, ball joints, and bushings replaced. upper and lower a-arm bushings have been replaced several times due to noise in front end. dodge dealer could not diagnose this noise or any problem when we took it to them. after two days of it sitting at the dealer we mysteriously had a badly leaking water pump. when we decided not to have the dealer complete the repair they made us pay them a diagnostic fee of $78.00! two sets of brand new brakes squeaked annoyingly after repeated attempts at lubrication and cleaning, rotors now need replacing. rear passenger, & front driver power window motors replaced, twice for the rear one. bad brakes & bad suspension did not mix well when you're a mother of four very active kids. sometimes i was scared to drive . the cost has become ridiculous and at times unreasonable. *ak
The vehicle had a defective fuel line assembly, which caused fuel to leak fuel at the connection, the fuel line was replaced twice, however the problem recurred. *jb
We purchased this vehicle from v & h ford inc, marshfield, wi. in june 2003. the next day after i got it i started it & it started to squeal. my husband noticed transmission fluid leaking as well. we took it back to the dealer, we were told that the fan clutch & serpentine belt were shot, as well as a little leak in the transmission. they put some kind of sealer on it & continued to leak. (also during all of this time, our rpm's kept jumping.) after the 3rd time, they said they did a factory authorized repair & put what was referred to as a "cock ring" in it to seal it. this seams to have taken care of this. then when the truck was put in reverse it kept clunking, the u-joints went out next, then the latch broke on our glove box. meanwhile the rpm's keep jumping, it has been back in the shop a total of probably 7 to 8 times so far. our service engine light came on & flashed the code of fuel injector #8, when it was put through the diagnostic test, however we are learning this is still not the problem. last weekend i was going to put the truck in the garage. i put in drive, and it took off on me without me even touching the gas. it has done this several times now while on the road. now for the past week, when you leave a stop sign, it will shift once and stay at about 3000 - 3500 rpm and will not shift until you are ready to stop. when you try to stop the trottle sticks and the truck wants to go. we are at loss what to do. we have obviously purchased a lemon that it a hazard to be on the road. to trade it in or try to sell it outright seems to be a crime, because we know the horrible things wrong with it. i am certain that it is only a matter of time before my husband & i and our 2 children are seriously hurt or killed by the spuratic behavior of this dangerous vehicle. please advise us what to do. is there a lemon law or any thing ...
I have read about three recalls for my truck (1999 dodge durango). i have not even been notified by chrysler. i though that they are suppose to notify you, especially with one of them being a part to the gas tank. thanks for your web page....joe s. *nlm
My engine died with 44,000 miles due to sludge build-up dealership says i did'nt change my oil but i did and i have reciepts. i have all my paper work where i took it in for repairs for the guages going off and oil pressure dropping, having to put 2 qts of oil every 200 miles, knocking in motor, and now my warranty is out i have a blown engine. dealership refuses to accept any responsibility. my power windows and quit working in the summer could not roll down windows and the air condition was not blowing out cold air . gas tank strap broke with a full tank of gas & was being held on with only 1 strap, gas tank was hanging down. i have several more minor gripes but the main thing now is the engine. i have read over some consumer complaints web sites and it seems i'm not the only person having the same problem. dt
Gas fast as 70 miles or as slow as 10 miles per hr. contacted chrysler corp. 2x no one at c. corp could give me answer. i was told to take vehicle to dealership and start with tsb#08-24-00 to see if this could be the problem. three attemps have been made to solve the problem. problem still exist at a high rate of speed 70 mph on i-95 10/12/02 with heavy traffic my vehicle shut down without warning if not for my daughter following behind me, and notice my vehicle was having problems i truly believe a major accident would have occurred instead of a traffic back-up the police arrive and stayed with us until vehicle started again. this problem have me very worried since the vehicle continues to do this and the auto-tects nor chrysler have any ideal why. vehicle shuts down with no warning while driving i could be going. dt
Intake seal leaked allowing most of the oil to burn. i was driving on the illinois tollway and the oil guage dropped to near zero and the warning tone dinged. when i eventually pulled into my dealer 6 quarts of oil later, they immediately new it was the intake seal and thankfully i had 3 weeks left on the warranty.*ak
The right rear window motor had to be replaced since it abruptly stopped working. but the real problems are with the car all of a sudden dying while driving normally on the road, causing the power steering and brakes to fail making it almost impossible to steer out of harms way if you find yourself admist a lot of traffic. once the car dies it usually starts right back up again after a few minutes, but it has become so unpredictable that i'm afraid to take the vehicle back out on the street! the milage now is at 48000 and the problem started occuring at around 40000 first rarely but now more frequently.
Consumer states of having problems with the intake manifold gasket. dealer was contacted. mr
According to the dealer here in san antonio (north star dodge), the fuel tank buckled, and needs to be replaced. they said the fuel tank is on backorder nationwide, and that there are 20 other durango owners waiting on this part. i feel this necessitates a recall of this model because a) the liklihood of combustion is very possible given the fact that the fuel tank actually shrinks up much like a paper bag when all the air is sucked out; b) this has happened on numerous vehicles already, enough to require dodge to be in a backorder situation. i also am without a vehicle comparable to my durango that seats 8. the dealer only provides a $30 a day rate with enterprise, which supplied me with a ford pick-up that seats 3. i encourage you to contact the manufacturer over the potential danger of fire and related hazards due to this fuel tank problem. thank heavens my daughter and i were not injured--the car simply died on the side of the road.
Engine sludged. motor destroyed-oil was changed regularly-coolant leaking into oil system. leak at intake manifold area.
