Problems with 1999 Dodge Durango ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Vehicle stalls periodically. it will not re-start right away. sometimes it starts up after a minute or two, sometimes five minutes, sometimes after an hour or so. we had the vehicle diagnosed by edelen tire & service and twice by conway heaton dodge in bardstown, ky. conway heaton verified the problem on february 1, 2002. neither service center could determine the root cause and fix the problem. i also contacted chrysler_x0012_s customer service and got them involved (care # 9699040). they contacted conway heaton to help, but could not. i have a 3 year old vehicle which is unsafe because it stalls without notice. chrysler and conway heaton tell me there is nothing they can do. please help!*ak

Battery exploded upon starting vehicle, dealer was notified, and unwilling to assist in this matter. feel free to provide any further information on this matter.*ak

Driver side rear window does not work. dealer found no problems. *jb

Spark plug/coil wire standoffs design is inadequate allowing wires to come in contact with valve covers causing chaffing and eventually failure of wires.

Brake pedal assembly came apart while driving at 60 mph. a clip that holds the brake pedal to the brake system broke or came loose. this could have caused major injuries and possible deaths. i contacted crystler but they said since no one died all they can do is to file a complaint. this could happen to any durango or jeep out there.*ak

Vehicle stalled at 30 mph. *ak

Oil and engine light came on. pulled over to check oil, and oil was very low. had just changed oil two weeks ago. consumer noticed a loud noise coming from under engine when accelerating, but not at all times. another time while driving on parkway vehicle died, consumer came close to having an accident. dealer said ignition coil went bad. *ak the engine light came on because oil and filter were not changed regularly. the catalytic convertor was damaged but the dealer could not fix it due to national back order. *yh

Twice within the past month, truck has been serviced for electrical problems. the abs and brake warning light come on and stay on for extended periods of time. on occasion, the gauges in the dash will "spike", meaning they go to the maximum then drop back to "normal" range or stay at maximum, not dropping back to normal. *cj

The vehicle has experienced several instances of electrical system failures, the battery has been replaced on two occasions, the instrument panel and gauges spike and are erratic, consumer was told by the dealership on one repair that there was an open circuit causing the problem, however after repair the electrical system continued to experience problems. *mjs

Consumer has a problem with vehicle stalling without prior warning. vehicle started jerking and it stopped in the middle of the road. consumer notified dealership, and mechanic told him that they couldn't duplicate the problem. *ak the dealer replaced power train control module, time and alarm module. *yh

My car started making these loud noises like a truck, i took it to the dealer and they told me that it was the barons, and that it was caused by not putting oil in the car or racing it. they told me that it was not under warranty and that it will cost $4000 to have it fixed. i have my oil change every 3 months, and i go to baltimore, md and washington dc about twice a week. they will not fix it.

Motor, ignition, tie rods, brakes. heater/air have had hardly no heat or a/c for the last 4 years.. have replaced everything from fan, blower, cooling, water pump, heater core etc. still back in the shop on 12-28-04 got back today 01-01-05 and still no heat don't know what is wrong with it. *jb

Consumer was driving at approximately 40-50 mph when it slid on ice, there was no impact. however, it did turn over onto passenger's side. a fire immediately started underneath the hood , close to the generator cable. vehicle was totaled. cause is still unknown. *ak *ml

Steering wheel made excessive whining, dealer replaced gear, pump, and fluid, dealer replaced steering gear twice more. *slc

All windows would not work except driver window. checked windows found it was lack of usage. first time i had ever heard of such thing. *jb

Vehicle accelerates/ motor makes a knocking sound. dealer replaced sparks, it caused vehicle to loose horse power and fuel economy. a new intake gasket was put in, and the computer was scanned to add a new code for more fuel. problem was not solved. *ak

Engine knocks under load continuously and uses excessive oil. dealer has told me it is due to faulty computer but it has been 2 years and no fix as of yet. wisconsin lemon laws say i needed to bring the vehicle back 3 times in one year to declare it a lemon unfortunately i believed diamler chrysler was going to fix it. diamler chrysler contacted and offered no resolution.*ak

Fuse blew out 4 times, causing the tail lights and instrument panel cluster to be inoperative which may cause a crash. dealer cannot determine the problem. *ak

Repeatly since we have had the car we have had engine noises and failure to advance gear when driving. one of the more frightening incidents was when driving on the highway the engine lost power at 65+ . i last evening after just getting it back from the dealer my husband had it out with my son and it stalled again on him. i refuse to drive it to get my kids in college for fear of an accident somehow that does not seem right. i have a claim #7286397. please help. pat ryan. *ak
