Problems with 2013 Dodge Avenger AIR BAGS

On average, the 2013 Dodge Avenger starts to “feel” problems with the AIR BAGS and its various aspects after 57 600 miles.

Recently reported AIR BAGS problems on 2013 Dodge Avenger

While driving approximately 30-35 mph on a city street the front passenger head rest airbag had went off with passenger in the seat. there was no accident involved to cause the airbag to deploy.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 dodge avenger. while driving approximately 50 mph, the front passenger and driver air bags suddenly deployed without warning or an impact. there were no injuries. the contact took the vehicle to mack grubbs motors (located at 1480 highway 98 e, columbia, ms 39429, 601-376-9938). the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 108,830.

Just leaving a parking lot going maybe 15 mph at the most and the driver head rest popped out and a spring went flying. the vehicle was not hit or did not make any impact with anything, not even a speed bump. the head rests are extremely uncomfortable now and it was terrifying getting hit in the back of the head with my 1 year old daughter in the back seat. local dealership advised this is not under a recall so it would be something we would have to pay out of pocket for. estimate was close to $3,000. that is absurd when it is a defect and not something that i caused.

The headrests in my dodge avenger have popped forward several times. sometimes they would pop forward merely from the heat, as i live in a very hot area. i had the orc replaced as part of safety recall s61, however the vehicles safety is reduced because the headrests will not stay locked in due to broken plastic locks which are supposed to hold it back. apparently the headrests are not covered under the recall as it currently stands. the car is uncomfortable to drive, and in the case of an accident, the headrests will not be able to deploy since they are now permanently deployed. i thought the headrests were already covered by the previous recall, which is why i am filing now.

Takata recall, the air bag light comes on and off it mainly stays on, sometimes the seat belt if put on at a right time the air bag light will stay off but only for a few minutes.

The airbag light keeps going on and off. a few times i would undo my seatbelt and then secure it again and it would go off. but it comes back on again. brakes: i have had all 4 brakes replaced and my brakes still squeak and they grind. ive had this done twice and it does not fix the issue. it makes a rattling sound when going uphill. and squeeks and grinds when coming to a stop. this has been going on for months.

Tl* the contact owned a 2013 dodge avenger. while driving approximately 40 mph, the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a guardrail. the driver's door was severely damaged, but the side and curtain air bags did not deploy and the seat belt failed to restrain the driver. the driver sustained injuries to the left side of the body that required medical attention. a police report was filed. the vehicle was destroyed and towed. the cause of the failure was not determined. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the local dealer was not notified. the failure mileage was 110,000. *dt*jb

The front passenger seat headrest deployed without notice or accident striking my wife in the head. there was no collision or impact in any way. i had just pulled out into the road and while accelerating i heard a noise sounding like a spring under pressure uncoiling. we were going approximately 20 mph. my wife screamed as the headrest struck the back of her head. it hit with enough force to give her a headache for a couple hours.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 dodge avenger. while driving approximately 15 mph and making a left turn, the driver's side anti-whiplash air bag device (located in the head rest) suddenly deployed without a crash or impact. the contact sustained a neck injury that required medical treatment. the cause of the failure was not determined. the local dealer (tri-city dodge, 833 s. van buren rd, eden, nc) and the manufacturer were both notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 49,600. *dt *dt updated 12/20/18*jb *jb

I purchsed this vehicle used .after 2 months the engine is sputtering when going up hill. it doesnt feel or sound right

The passenger headrest deployed/ snapped forward on its own while driving. there was no passenger, therefore no injury. i had this vehicle at dodge liberty in rapid city, sd last week and requested this be checked, the technician that checked it said he "had no idea, stated it looks like the plastic broke" when i got home i called the dealer back and spoke to the parts department, he said, "i have seen this before and that the part would cost $454. is there a recall of any kind by chrysler?

Good afternoon, to whom this may concern. my vehicle has the air bag light on and i have been going to the dealer ship to get this taken care of and every time i have gone to the dealer they are telling me i have to pay for them to remove the air bag light when a recall was in place for the occupant restraint controller, they fixed that issue but the issue of the air bag still remains. they are asking me to pay $139.00 for them to find the issue and then pay another extra amount to resolve this matter. they are refusing to fix this issue without a cost and it has been way too long trying to get this resolved.

Airbag light is on from a while, after checking the error codes, due head set restraint controller. not sure what to do

The passenager head restraint system is throwing an error they cannot figure out. the local service department, and chrysler's star team (engineers) cannot figure out the problem. they have had my car for five weeks. it's time for them to replace the defective vehicle.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 dodge avenger. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v668000 (air bags, seat belts); however, the part for the recall repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated and the seat belt failed to remain locked into the latch in the event of a crash due to the otc failure. the contact called the anderson dodge dealer (5711 e state st, rockford, il 61108; 815-229-2000) and was informed that due to the air bag warning indicator remaining illuminated, the entire air bag system would fail. the dealer stated that the parts for the recall repair were unavailable. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that they were expecting parts around august. the dealer was not aware of parts being available around that time or at all. the approximate failure mileage was 42,000.
