Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2012 Dodge Avenger

In the last 3 years my vehicle has stalled 5 times. today was the 5th time. i was on a hill about to turn onto another street, and as i started turning the steering wheel, the car turned off. it was very difficult to steer with no power. i turned the corner then put the car in neutral to start it up again. i was driving only abut 5 miles per hour on a residential street thankfully. the weather was cold but not raining. all 5 times that the car has stalled it has been a cold morning, and i was on an incline

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge avenger. the contact stated while driving at various speeds the vehicle heating system operated on the drivers side. the contact recently had the blend door actuator and thermostat replaced however the failure persisted. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic for diagnosis and repairs, however the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

I have no heat coming from my vents no matter what setting. i've brought the car in to local repair shops and no one can figure out what's wrong. after seeing dozens of complaints on the same issue in different forums i decided to file a complaint.

Heater core issue. replaced several times yet still getting build up causing hot air to blow on driver side but cold air to blow on passenger side.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge avenger. while driving 70 mph, the vehicle shut off without warning. the vehicle was pulled off the road and restarted; however, the failure recurred while driving 70 mph. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the crank shaft sensor malfunctioned. the crank shaft sensor was replaced, but the failure recurred. the original crank shaft sensor was installed back in the vehicle and the mechanic attempted to reset the sensor by driving to 70 mph and idling down. this process was attempted three times, but it still did not work and the failure recurred while driving 70 mph. the contact stated that the vehicle would operate as long as it did not reach 70 mph. the contact scheduled an appointment with brewbaker dodge chrysler jeep ram fiat of montgomery (300 eastern blvd, montgomery, al 36117, (334) 279-0174) for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was called and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was 80,000.

Cadillac converter recall- when the cadillac converter went out the car made a horrible noise and lost power to accelerate. come to find out the pressure blew back and popped hoses of and broke the intake manifold. the flap cant open and close. chrysler said that the intake manifold was not due to the cadillac converter but teo auto macanica said it was. this is a $700 repair due to a recall! had been driving car around town all day. stopped to turn and loud noise happened. luckly coasted to blocks to house and had tow truck take to repair shop.

Driving car cut off in the middle of road and check engine light come on that is not good and i think it is not safe

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge avenger. while driving 60 mph, the vehicle downshifted to 10 mph and lost power. additionally, the vehicle jerked, skid, the steering wheel seized, and the traction control and throttle warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the brakes, sway bar, and battery needed to be replaced. the vehicle was taken to luther brookdale chrysler jeep dodge ram (8188 brooklyn blvd, brooklyn park, mn 55445, (612) 326-3931), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and a voice message was left, but they failed to respond. the contact stated that she was terrified to drive the vehicle. the failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

Told heater core was bad at 57,000 miles by dealership due to no heat on passenger side but heat on driver's side and is a known manufacture defect in this car. car is very well maintained.

Dodge left residual machining debris in the avenger engine blocks that flows with coolant into the heater core and radiator causing the heater core to clog up and blocks heat to passenger side in the winter causing unsafe or unfit to operate in cold weather. i've had my avenger in dodge dealership where they confirm my heater core is blocked. it costs over 2k to fix this issue caused by defective or lack of dodge factory engine inspections. i've spoken to fca the dodge parent company and their answer is we should've had extended warranty even though i'm within the mileage for the factory warranty but out of amount of years coverage . my avenger had extended warranty from an outside source but that company will not cover dodge created malfunctions. the attached info shows my avenger at the dodge dealership on 03-06-2019. i also had it serviced in wichita at pr autoglass and auto services just prior to bringing it to dodge dealership. pr autoglass and services stated it is the heater core and that the problem cannot be flushed out as it has accumulated in the heater core blocking it from being professionally flushed. the residue was also evident in the radiator but flushing did remove that the best we can tell. dodge has a known issue with having left this debris in the engine blocks during the machining processes on avengers.

I was on a hill about to turn onto the freeway when my vehicle turned off/stalled. i was moving about 10 miles per hour and when i went to turn right i found it difficult to move the steering wheel, at which point i realized my vehicle had stalled. this is the third time i have had this issue with my vehicle within the last year.

My cooling system is contaminated by inferior products manufactured within my dodge avenger. material/s within the cooling system fail and cause debris to build up within the entire cooling system. this material/s is a sandy like substance that blocks critical cooling and heating components that has lead to major failures of my heating system via the debris blocking the heater core from functioning. i certain that this debris is also affecting my engine's cooling function.

My 2012 dodge avenger caught fire under the hood while i was driving on the fwy. i could not stop the car because the brake became locked in place and i couldnt press it down with my foot. the emergency brake did not work. it was unsafe to get out of the moving car, so i was trapped in the car as the fire under the hood grew rapidly. i was able to get off at the next exit and with quick thinking, i used the curb at the end of the fwy off ramp to help me stop the car. when firefighters arrived, the entire front end of my car was fully engulfed. from my understanding, chrysler/dodge has had reapeated complaints regarding similar incidents.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge avenger. while attempting to heat the vehicle and activate the windshield defroster, the contact realized that the features were inoperable. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the heater core needed to be replaced also, mechanic diagnosed the problem as the actuator doors. independent dealer cut and open the dash and found heater core was plugged with silicone and dust particals from when factory put engine together. the vehicle was currently being repaired. the dealer was notified. manufacturer were not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 146,000. the vin was not available. *bf *jb

My heat stopped working on half of my car and i flushed the heater core and replaced the blend door actuators and it still doesn't work.

Two separate incidents have happened. first was in november 2018. i was driving home on a city street when the vehicle flashed the throttle body sensor light along with the check engine light and the car lost power and would not accelerate past 25mph. brought to dodge dealership for diagnosis and they couldn't check the etc light due to it shutting off with restart of the vehicle but was told i needed a new alternator. fixed the alternator and no problems again until january 2019. this time i was driving home from work on a very busy highway and the car flashed the check engine light and died while in motion. power steering was very tight but i was able to get to the side of the road safely and put the car in park. after 4 tries of restarting the vehicle, it started back up but the check engine light is still on. i will be taking it back to the dodge dealership in hopes of finding out what is wrong, but am nervous because of what i have read amongst other avenger owners.

Heater core failure. noticed the 2012 dodge avenger passenger side was not blowing hot air. instead the air was coming out cold no matter how much the temperature was adjusted. even after driving to destinations the heat never worked fo the passenger side. only the driver's side hot air works. took it to a repair shop and they did a flush 3 times because they said gunk can sometimes build up on those cars in particular, however it did not fix the problem. they informed me that it was the heater core that needed to be repaired. the car only has 63k miles so this is not something that a car with low mileage should experience.

In april 2018 and again in november 2018 my car stalled, completely died while i was stopped at a traffic light on a hill. i had to put the car in neutral and restart the car. this was on a hill, heading to a highway entry.

Heater core per dodge dealership is stopped up. took it to the dealership because the heat wouldn't get up to a satisfactory temperature, they tested it & said they could try flushing but they thought it needed replacing.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge avenger. while operating the vehicle, the heater would not operate and the windows could not be defrosted. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who flushed the heater core, but the failure continued. in addition, while driving various speeds, the vehicle shut off. during the failure, the electronic throttle and esp activation malfunction indicators illuminated. the failures were not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer and local dealer were not notified. the failure mileage was 107,000. *bf. consumer stated manufacturer was notified on the same day. *jb

When heat or ac is turned on either in motion or not there is a clicking noise coming from the passenger dashboard about five clicks and the clicks will stop and the heat will come out of driver side, but cool air on passenger side. if turned off and back on it will repeat the five clicking noise and the heat will kick on. also this "heat" is lukewarm at best.

Dodge left residual machining debris in the avenger engine blocks that flows with coolant into the heater core and radiator causing the heater core to clog up and blocks heat to passenger side in the winter causing unsafe or unfit to operate in cold weather.

This car is totally unsafe worse vehicle ever. while driving my car has lost all power making me almost loose control of the car while my kids were in it as well and driving on. the highway. it will be fine then just everything shuts off. it has shut off then not start or i?ve changed the engine one time and after that it was ok and now a year later is doing g the same exact thing. car won?t start for some odd reason then starts fine 30 min later i was trying g to start my car n it blew up in my face n blew the air filter off as well this car has been so bad i?m scared to even drive it i also have videos of it driving g fine then just shutting down completely this is the worse vehicle ever way to unsafe the electrical system starts going hay wire flashing the light off n and the car alarm will go off when no body has touched it or done anything to make it go off there's more just really upset can't think of them. *tr

My dodge avenger recently started stalling/shutting down while in motion. it has happened 4 times in the last 3 months. i loose all power to the steering wheel and brakes, i cannot control the car. thankfully this has only happened on local roads. i am terrified if it happens while i am on the highway which i travel everyday on my way to work and back.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge avenger. while driving 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact stated that the check engine indicator illuminated after the vehicle stalled. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to jacksonville chrysler dodge jeep ram arlington (9600 atlantic blvd, jacksonville, fl 32225, (877) 677-5782), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vin and failure mileage were unknown.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge avenger. while driving 25 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the contact was able to coast the vehicle to the side of the road. the engine was restarted and the contact drove the vehicle home. the vehicle was later taken to autonation chrysler dodge jeep ram north fort worth (11200 n freeway, fort worth, tx 76177, (817) 642-7894) where it was diagnosed that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vin was not included in a recall. the approximate failure mileage was 97,000.

I own a dodge 2012 avenger and had some issues here and there but this is the first time the vehicle just died for no reason. i was stopped in heavy traffic on a hill, ready to merge onto the freeway. the light turned green and i stepped on the gas peddle and nothing happened. i wasn't sure what was going on so i put on my hazard lights which thankfully worked. i could tell straight away that the car wasn't even on so i put it in park and turned the key and it started up. this is an issue that needs to be addressed by dodge as it poses a major safety hazard especially if i'm in the middle of heavy traffic on a freeway.

Driving at 50-55 mph and check engine and other dashboard lights flashed and started losing power. pulled off to side street a few feet away. i was lucky to be able to get in center turn lane where the car died completely. power steering also was lost. we pushed car off road where it restarted about 1/2 hour later. driving home less then 5 miles it died but started again.

Climate control blows cold air on the passenger side and warm air on the drivers side when heat is on and driving. engine temperature does not reach normal operating temperature when driving in cold weather. took to my local trusted mechanic and he diagnosed the heater core is plugged with debris. looked online and the dodge avenger have numerous complaints with that same issue. called chrysler group and made a complaint and got a case number. i have an appointment later this week to have it diagnosed by a dodge dealership for the record.

I took my car to ntb they stated there was a recall on my car for the transmission and i got online to check for recalls and it sais 0 detected but i believe this needs to be reassured. there was a recall back in 2015 and i would like for it to happen again.

Having to replace heater core and odometer at 47700 miles. lights are flickering behind odometer. told sand from casing clogging heater core. this was no fault of my own and needs to be recalled to fix this very big and common expensive problem.

Passenger side blows cold air when heat is on.

Passenger side heater blowing cold air during all operation phases. dealer stated due to sand casting from the aluminum block plugging the heater core. the vehicle has close ton 50k miles.

Engine keeps stalling

1 year ago passenger side began blowing cool air, now only blows cold air. drivers side used to blow hot air, now only blows warm air. defrost is only warm on drivers side. actuator doors have been replaced, still doesn't work. estimated price to repair >$1200 due to the heater core needing to be replaced.

My heater is not blowing out hot air. i was told that casting sand was in the cooling reservoir that's causing the heater to not blow out hot air and that the casting sand will cause sludge in my cooling system. even though this is no fault of my making and this happened at the manufacturing plant dodge will not fix their mistake nor is it covered by my lifetime added care plus warranty.

Brake recall: the brakes grab or slow to stop causing it to not stop in a straight line or jump, flutter or hesitate to brake. engine recall: got car 6/2017 clinging noise, after 70,000 miles, all oil changes 1000 miles before its due, started after the 2 oil change. small of burning wire smell. (oil change 4 days go now engine light on) fuel propusion system recall: car seems to shift funny when pushing gas, struggling for gas to flow when pushing the gas.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge avenger. while driving approximately 35 mph, the engine overheated and the engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (frank fletcher dodge in sherwood, ar: 501-834-7700) where it was diagnosed that the radiator needed to be replaced. the technician also stated that there was no recall and that the warranty expired. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. additionally, the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v668000 (seat belts, air bags). the failure mileage was approximately 101,246. parts distribution disconnect.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge avenger. while driving 50 mph, the contact observed smoke coming from the engine and the vehicle shook violently. the contact pulled the vehicle off the road and the check engine and electronic throttle control warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the radiator and coolant system failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. in addition, the alternator failed and had to be replaced a month prior. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

The heat does not blow hot air on the passengers side of the car. this includes the windshield, causing a safety issue as it only clears the fog on one side. dodge service shop said the issue is a known chrysler issue, requiring a new radiator, heater core, and coolant bottle. at an estimate of $2235.00. however chrysler is refusing to do anything about it claiming it is not a known issue.

Passenger heater side blows cold air. when changing ac/heater to/from fresh air and re-circulation a loud clicking noise happens. p0306 cylinder misfire when it rains water gets into the trunk though the spoiler.

Heater only blows cold air on passenger side. i have been told this is casing sand clogging the radiator, heater core and the oil cooler. this happens as a result of the heater core being the wrong size and chrysler fixing the issue by casting it in place. this is a safety issue for those of us who live in states where the winter gets bad. while driving in inclement weather the snow, ice, or sleet will begin to accumulate on the windshield and passenger window. the sad part is that this is the second dodge avenger i have had with this issue and on both occasions i have been told it is not covered under the powertrain warranty. the bumper to bumper warranty has expired both times before this has become an issue. chrysler needs to take ownership of this defect and fix it before it causes a death. to have this repair done costs $2500 with no guarantee that it will last.

This is the second time that i only have heat on the drivers side. i was told that the problem is caused by casting sand that was in the engine which causes the radiator, heater core, and oil cooler to plug up. not a cheap fix and i have seen complaints from many others with same issue. manufacturer aware of problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge avenger. while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled behind a commercial vehicle. when attempting to restart the vehicle, the truck in front suddenly moved and allowed the contact to notice another vehicle heading towards them at high speeds. the contact shifted into neutral, restarted the vehicle, but was unable to gain control. as a result, the vehicle landed in a ditch on the side of the road. the vehicle's front fender was damaged. the vehicle was not towed. a police report was filed. the contact did not receive any injuries. approximately six months prior to this failure, the vehicle suddenly stalled while driving various speeds. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the tipm, pcm, and orc failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle received a new pcm, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 106,013.

Poor heating system performance. sludge builds up in the cooling system and restricts coolant flow to the heater core causing loss of heat in the passenger compartment. loss of heat also effects the ability to de-ice or prevent ice and snow build up on the windshield in cold weather operation. this can create a hazardous condition as visibility is greatly reduced. chrysler group llc has no cause for the sludge formation. the only resolution is to replace the radiator, oil cooler, heater core and radiator cap after completely flushing the cooling system. this is to be done at the owners expense and can cost over $2500.

The air bag warning light illuminated. few days later began hearing a clicking under the dashboard behind the glove box. received notice for recall. due to location nearest dodge dealership is 2 hours away. decided to wait. a short time later, the car began to lose power briefly intermittently. once again, due to location decided to wait. two days ago the car stalled completely while traveling at 45 miles per hour. no steering, no brakes, nothing. scared me. trying to find someone locally to look at it. today it died in the middle of a very busy intersection. once again, coming to the intersection the car dropped below 1,000 rpms and then dies.

I have continuosly been having problems with my brakes and rotors, engine stalling while driving, and the lock to my drivers side door isnt working properly. i have had my brakes and rotors repaired three times within a 4 month time frame. this is ridiculous. i dont know what kind of mechanical meltdown this vehicle is having. but some needs to provide some answers.

Heater not working. (87,000 miles) took the car to the dealership where they gave me an estimate of $2500 to replace the entire coolant system (heater core, radiator, oil cooler, thermostat, water pump). the tech advised there was something restricting flow through the heater core. there is a 100,000 mile power train warranty on the car but they do not agree that the coolant system that cools the engine (power train) should be included. where did the sediment/sludge come from? possibly oil contamination from the engine (power train)? this problem has been noted in numerous models and dodge has released a statement to their techs to replace the entire coolant system because they know something they did is wrong. this is very similar to the problem gm had with dex-cool why is there not a recall for this problem the consumer should not be burdened with the failures of the manufacturer to provide a quality product. i hope this matter is taken seriously as it truly is a safety issue. if the heat does not work it is not just uncomfortable for the driver/passengers but it will also reduce visibility through the windshield since the defrost/heat does not work.

I was driving when my car lost power multiple times with the key in the ingition. the third time all of the lights on the dash went off and i had to coast into a parking spot. i had to jump the vehicle to get it started

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge avenger. the contact stated that when the vehicle was started, a clicking noise was heard from the front end. while driving at any speed, the contact smelled burning wires from somewhere within the vehicle. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 61,000.
