This was a sudden failure. my family and i enjoy a great day at a theme park, we head back to the parking garage to head home. we get in our four door 2008 dodge avenger and it will not shift out of park. the vehicle turns on great, i check the emergency brake, i turn on the car, turn off the car and the shifter will not budge out of park. i call a towing service and he said this happens with a lot of dodge avengers and sebrings. he had to pull the trim off where the shifter is located and push this pink release down and the shifter moved freely. i contacted a dodge dealership and they said it will cost me $200.00 which is ridiculous! i went online no recall, but i found thousands of other people who are having the same issue. this issue needs to be addressed to chrysler and get a [xxx] recall on these vehicles. thank you. *tr information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. the contact stated that the driver side front door latch would not secure the striker; when the door was closed, it would bounce back. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the contact referenced recall 07v414000 (latches/locks/linkages:doors:latch) but was told that the vehicle was not included; the vehicle was not inspected when the complaint was filed. the vehicle was not repaired. the current and failure mileages were approximately 52,000.

I went out to my car to leave work and i started my car as usual. i tried to shift out of park and i couldn't move the shifter. i tried everything suggested to me and i couldn't find how to bypass it in the owner's manual. (the service tech finally showed me how to do it once it was fixed) i finally called to have it towed to a close dealership where they fixed it. the gear shift mechanism broke. there is a pink plastic piece that holds the spring that activates the shift lock and the hook that actually holds the spring broke. the entire module needed to be replaced costing $69.35 for the part and approximately $129 for labor. after researching the incident online, i found out this is a major recurring problem for the dodge avenger, it could be avoided if the part was made out of metal and not plastic. *tr

Drove the 2008 avenger last night (thursday 7/15/2010), parked in the driveway. started the car today (7/16/2010) and car will not come out of park. stuck here till monday and have to have car towed to dodge dealer. goggled problem, and found 155 exact complaints. *tr

Very many 2008 dodge avengers are having an issue with the gear shifters getting stuck in park, including mine. (see website at the link pasted for proof: http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/avenger/2008/transmission/gear_shift_module_lock_up.shtml) since my car was just under the 36,000 mile cutoff for the factory warranty i was able to get the dealership to cover towing and fixing it for free. however, this apparently happens pretty often with these cars so what am i going to do the next time this happens and the time after that??? there is a spring attached to a pink button on the gear shifter that keeps popping off of everybody's car. there needs to be a major recall on this!! *tr

I have a 2008 dodge avenger with 40,800 miles on it. i had a problem with the gear shifter stuck in park . the problem seems to be very common in many dodge vehicles , it seems to be a very cheap plastic part . could there be a recall on this problem???? *tr

The latch that lets you take the car out of park is malfunctioning that only allows you to take the car out of park by pushing a pink latch button under the shifter. *tr

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). to whom it may concern, i have bought a car about 2 weeks ago and told the dealer that there is a recall (front door latch cable clips). 3 days ago i went to the same dealer to get it done. i have waited there for 5 hours because they were about to fix the car because of the recall. i was told that they fixed the recall problem. today (01/01/10) i have checked the dodge homepage again and typed my vin to see if they really fixed the recall and i saw that the status is still incomplete. should i find another dealer and get that car fixed? another problem is the alignment of the car. it drafts to the right and i was told from the dealer that i have to go somewhere else and get it done and that i have to pay it out of my pocket. One problem after another back hump brake light does not work due to water pouring into the trunk. Passenger's door latch failed while on the road. (my 6 year old son was sitting in passengers side when this occurred) door would not latch at all. car taken to mack haik dodge dealership in georgetown, tx. to be repaired. no recalls were noted although the service people had mentioned numerous problems of similar nature. *tr

Trunk latch retains water. after opening the trunk water pours right in. took to dealership, said that was normal. *tr

Notice of the recall was received via email on 11/14/07 and i have called 3 times since to schedule my vehicle for service so new part could be installed. each time the dealership states that the replacement part is yet to arrive and i will be notified. i have yet to be contacted. no consequences have surfaced as of yet. *tr
