Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser

Driving on the interstate the panel lights started to come on. at 1st it was slowly until it filled the panel, later the whole group would pop on, and then go off. the 1st six or eight times they came on the only thing that was effected was the lights and gauges. as i continued to drive then the lights and gauges would act up, but the car would stall, or shut off and then pop back on. when examined by the chrysler dealership on the diagnostic machine ($95.00), they found ignition switch failure was occurring. i spoke to chrysler group customer care and they said it was not their ignition switch at fault , but the posts were burnt due to age??? if the car was already running and i was not touching the key, why or how did these posts come into play?? *js

Going down the road and lights come on the dash and motor cuts off with no warning almost got rearended from this happening. have taken it to many mechanics and even an electrol place and none of them can figure out the problem . if anyone figures out this problem please post before someone get hurt or killed i drive in a major city and on the interstates and it has happened to me on the interstate and i have had to pull over to the side to try to get out of the way please someone help i cant afford to go out nd buy another car if i did i will not buy another chrysler product and all my friends and family say they wouldn't either. *tr

I have a 2006 chrysler pt cruiser limited turbo with only 31,262 miles on it that started out a couple of months ago by the seat-belt light coming on first followed almost immediately by all of the surrounding warning lights coming on and the gauges all dropping to nothing. it repeated this several times an then stopped and went back to normal. since then this has happened once out of approximately every three times driving it, doing the same thing described above. today all that changed, not only did the lights and gauges go crazy, the engine died repeatedly as well, all this happened in 40 mph traffic. it scared me to death, i had no control and with it happening as fast as it was i had no way of warning the cars behind or beside me. just as i have seen by other people with the same issue over and over again and with the 2006 model the post are all the same issue, all happening in the same sequence, all taking their cars to mechanics of all types, dealership and independent and "not one mechanic has found a solution or even an idea of why this is happening". my wife and i are like most i have seen and cannot afford to keep taking it in to be told they can't find the problem and definitely aren't in a position to be able to afford to purchase another vehicle. will beg chrysler to help us all out. please figure out what is causing this before someone is hurt or even killed. very frustrated to say the least............. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler pt cruiser. while driving at an unknown speed, the horn failed to operate without warning. in addition, the contact stated that the alarm system activates consistently and the air bag warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician diagnosed that the lock spring needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 151,000.

2006 chrysler pt cruiser- the lights on my dashboard all light up along with all the warning alarms. sometimes the car completely shuts off while driving above 30 mph - 65 mph in the city and on the highway then kicks back on within a few seconds. this problem has been on going. i have had professional mechanics look at my car with no luck or resolution to the problem. luckily no accidents as of yet. i want to get rid of the car, but i don't want to be responsible in case an accident occurs for someone else. i can't get it fixed if no one or chrysler hasn't made the problem known to the public. i'm not the only one experiencing these issues. after a year long search i found 47 other complaints similar if not the very same issue i'm dealing with. *tr

All dash lights flash and car sometimes stalls. very frequent loss of headlights, wipers, all gauges and blinkers. *tr

2006 pt cruiser, approx. 55,000 miles. first the seat belt warning light flashes on, then all the warning lights on the dashboard come on. all my gauges drop except the fuel gauge. the speedometer gauge moves up and down after dropping. it feels like power is lost to the engine when it is happening. within seconds, the warning lights go out and the gauges stabilize and things are normal. sometimes this happens only once while driving, other days it happens 4-5 times in a row. i am told it is a common problem with the 2006 model. why is there no recall or repair thru chrysler? *tr

After replacing alternator in car..still have battery light on..was told i need to replace ecm ..only have 36,000 miles on car....battery is totally dead now and is new battery as of oct2013..help?? *tr

Driving vehicle, all dashboard lights blink on and off, cars stalls, brakes and steering lock up. this has happened at least 15 times over the last few months, and is very dangerous. also, sometimes the engine fan won't shut off when car is turned off, and it drains the car battery. this has happened at least 10 times. that part is getting expensive and very irritating, but the stalling out and completely dying, is very dangerous, because you can't always get off the road. *tr

Dashlights came on and off gauges dropped and returned to normal.vehicle loss power. *tr

On multiple occasions the vehicle indicator panel lights come on with the bell tone sound and all gauges go to zero and loses power and stalls. when taken in for repair the mechanics can not find the problem. on september 24th was the most current incident and had to be towed. the initial diagnosis was that it was the transmission but after taking vehicle to a transmission specialist it was determined to be electrical and required the pcm module and the integrated power box to be replaced. after investing 2k by the end of this ordeal i do not feel very confident in the chrysler product. not assured that this is going to fix the problem after reading all the research and other complaints on this issue. when a replacement part was sent to the transmission shop directly from the manufacturer it too was defective and now i have to wait four more days for my car to be repaired. what poor quality control and poor customer service from the manufacturer. i am very upset and disappointed in the chrysler product. *tr

My battery lite comes on when started and stays on..have had battery, cables, etc etc checked and all show good...also the air conditioning works very little but according to all the mechanics that have checked it over everything shows in good working order...i was told by a mechanic at the chrysler dealership that it needs to be put on a machine for $100 an hour and if it shows the "main computer module" then these issues are "infixable"..it is something i will have to "deal with" and hope that there really isn't anything serious wrong he tells me...same way with the fog lites on the car..they come on and go off..sometimes they comeon and wont go off...again i was told it was "unfixable"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i work hard every day and pay my bills...i cant afford to be told that these issues with my car are "unfixable"...somebody help!!!! *tr

About 10-15 times over a period of about 6 months i have had repeated, irregular, intermittent malfunctions as follows. all have had the same characteristics. at different speeds, different times, different acceleration, different drivers, etc. the electrical system and engine go out momentarily then in about 1 second is restored. rarely it is not restored for 4-5 seconds. headlights stay on but all other electrical systems turn off fleetingly. the instrument lights go off and the dials drop to zero then almost immediately power is restored, instruments resume their previous levels and everything returns to normal. there is no sputtering, backfiring or warning of an impending event. there is no consistent circumstance which precipitates this malfunction. i have taken it twice to the dealer but the malfunction has never recurred while they were driving and alternator, battery, etc. all check out normally. this problem sounds very similar to the currently identified gm malfunction..are the electrical harnesses made by the same company? *tr

While driving, the dashboard lights will intermittently light up and the gauge indicator needles on the dashboard will drop to zero. three times since i purchased the car in march 2014, it has cut off with these symptoms while driving in traffic causing great risk for an accident. this is very scary. i have to bring the car to a complete stop, put it park and then restart the engine, hoping that no one will rear end me. imagine this happening on the highway or in a busy intersection. i have taken the car to a mechanic who performed diagnostics on all of the computer modules. no error codes came up although he informed me that when you restart the car, the computer modules reset each time. data from multiple start-ups is not stored. i also had the car checked by an auto electrician who was unable to detect any shorts in the electrical system. the battery is fully charged and the alternator seems to be working fine. i suspect that this may have something to do with the ignition switch. there is currently a recall on some 2008 models related to the ignition switch. or, possibly the seat belt sensor in the passenger seat is causing a short when something of any weight is put on the passenger seat, such as my purse. i wonder if the weight threshold is being triggered on and off causing the electrical system to be confused. i've not put anything on the seat for the last week and have not experienced the issue so far but that could be a coincidence. i see lots of these same complaints online from years back to present and do not understand why chrysler has not figured out the problem and issued a recall for repairs. it would be a shame for someone to be injured or killed due to their negligence. if anyone knows the solution to this problem, please let me know asap. *tr

In jan14 my car wouldn't start, took to the dealer. april11 it took it back to dealer because it took 4 times to start the car. when started, while driving the elec panel lights wld randomly flicker, eng light often. jul14 car back at dealer, all panel lights wld flicker while driving, car wld accelerate while driving and sounding like in wrong gear at 35mph, didn't get car back until aug08. one hour later, returned car to dealer car still accelerated while trying to stop at a four way intersection. got car back 2 days later. car accelerated on aug28, cut off while driving 30mph, dash lit up, gas gauge went full to empty, car launched forward and then started on its own again, this happened twice. took car to dealer on aug29 and still have no car!!!! today is sept 11th. each time the dealer would state nothing is wrong and no signs of anything. they would not listen nor record anything i told them on the paperwork, they continued to ignore everything i said. i have paid a lot of money to get the car fixed and it was not until this last time that i finally got a loaner to drive (two door fiat). a case manager from auburn hill, mi at the headquarters has contacted me, but still nothing has been done!!!!!!!!!!! now the dealer wants me to test drive the car with them, though i told them that it randomly happens. they continuously act like there is no problem, though i have found numerous complaints online regarding the same thing. something needs to be done asap before people get seriously injured and/or lives lost. this is something that can not be swept under the rug. as a retired assembly line worker of car parts i find it interesting how my case and others have been handled. the lack of concern, accountability, follow through and resolution is done poorly. *tr

I got the car 6 months ago and have had nothing but problems. all the dash lights come on and the gauges go to zero. it has almost caused me to be in an accident, it died in the middle of a busy intersection, it has died while i'm stopped at a red light and happens at various speeds, i've replaced the, alternator, starter, gauge cluster and some other small things and nothing is working. i've seen a lot of people with the same problem, chrysler should be doing something about this, i don't know what to do anymore with it, i'm not rich i can't afford a new car or to keep putting money into the car. *tr

My windshield wipers stopped working all of a sudden. took it to the mechanic who said it was my totally integrated power module and would cost around 1000 to replace!!!!! *tr

Initial incident stalled out waiting at stop light. after initial incident, vehicle would occasionally behave as if about to stall with all warning lights flashing. then the condition would go away and car would operate normally for awhile and then occur again. vehicle was taken to chrysler dealership but they were unable to reproduce the issue and car passed their test. the vehicle has stalled out several times since, while in motion. the last incident, vehicle was at approximately 45-50 mph when all electrical warning lights flashed and vehicle stalled, losing all power steering, brake functions. the car has less than 28,000 miles on it at the current time. i feel it is unsafe to drive. *js

Dashboard lit up, engine stopped, vehicle slowed allowing me to make a right turn out of traffic. was able to restart engine. car history prior to incident on the road. no mechanical incidents, however engine cranking problems. battery previously replaced and starter replaced on 05/28/2013 by mcx auto service center, mcas miramar, san diego, ca., 92145, phone number (858) 536-1684. since, first stalled incident, engine failure of the same has happened 3 more times, all in light street traffic with no injuries. vehicle restarted after each incident. latest incident august 01, 2013 at 4:30 pm. internet research has provided me with information and a video of symptoms pertaining to the ignition actuator switch and pin. this video shows exact symptoms of my car and also how to replace switch. please advise on recall information replacement or a potential safety problem being evaluated for recall. Since november 2012, my 2006 pt cruiser's dashboard has occasionally gone crazy with all gauges (speed, gas, etc) going crazy and bouncing back and forth, all lights (engine, airbag, brake, etc) lighting up at the same time. at that time, it did not affect the engine. on march 15, 2013, the car died suddenly while pulling out into an intersection after being stopped at a red light. the gauges and lights had previously been going crazy. the car restarted without a problem. i drove the car to the chrysler dealership where it was purchased immediately. the mechanic could not recreate the issue and did a computer update. after picking the car up from the dealership on march 22, 2013, again the gauges and lights starting going off and the car started to stall and the engine sputtered. i was in stop and go traffic. when stopped, the car would not immediately accelerate and it threatened to quit numerous times. i had to put my warning lights on to avoid being hit by the truck behind me. i immediately drove the car home and took it back to the dealership the following week. after another week, the mechanic was finally able to recreate the problem with the lights and gauges but did not experience the stalling or intermittent lack of acceleration. the car is still at the dealership and he is unable to determine the cause of the problem. he suggests replacing the dashboard cluster but is not sure if this will fix the problem. after reading other customer complaints that replacing the dashboard cluster did not remedy the same problem in other pt cruisers, i am not confident that this is the solution to the problem. i would appreciate chrysler responding to this issue that many 2006 pt cruiser owners are experiencing. the problem seems too prevalent to ignore and having a car die suddenly in the middle of traffic is a dangerous thing. *tr

2006 chrysler pt cruiser touring edition. right front headlight went out, replaced with new bulb, still no light. mechanic states ticm (total intergrated control module) went bad. research showed this is a common failure in this vehicle. repair exceeds $900 and will cause car to fail nys inspection. *tr

The key is stuck in the ignition...i have to unattach the battery cable so the battery will not go dead. i am women who has a disease called cancer..i am truly in some need to have someone to investigate this matter as soon as possible.the dealer wants to charge at least $330.00 to figure out which i am on a fixed income, still making payments on the car.i feel like this should not be a fault of mine when a key is stuck in the ignition. i need your assistance because the car can not get inspected and i am unable to get to my treatments. please help me!...your assistance in this matter is highly appreciated. *tr

Since spring 2013, all gauges/lights on instrument panel sporadically flicker off and on, usually no more than 1 minute. this occurs while idling and driving and may occur one month for 2-3 days and not again for a month. car didn't drive noticeably different, but lights and chime are alarming. took picture of car at 40mph and lights on to show mechanic because of course it never happens when they have car. at next oil change, took car to dealer and showed picture. they said it could be a wiring short and checked it. told there were no codes or info stored in computer and they saw nothing wrong. don't know if mechanic did reset, but it didn't happen again for 2 weeks. tried to note anything else going on when it does it. not sure if one light triggers them all, e.g., when low fuel indicator came on, they all came on. latest incident in 9/2013, going 60mph on highway and lights did back-to-back flicker, gauges zeroed and car began to decelerate. could not accelerate but within 10 secs (scary 10 secs!), gauges back and car powered back up to 60. called dealer again and they want to keep 2-3 days to take another look but i hope they're not just going to take my money without fixing it. my car has otherwise been perfect and not had to be serviced other than replacing suspension. i've been doing internet searches and no one seems to know what's causing this problem and this is a dangerous problem. please find a solution. *tr

My front windshild wipers stopped working. i took it into the chrysler dodge dealership, jackson mi and found the tipm, totally integrated power module was defective and needed to be replaced at cost of $906. i found on the internet this is a common problem on chryslers. it is at the dealer getting repaired. i feel a recall of this is needed. if you are out driving and the wipers go out you are in big trouble. just lucky we were in town and not on the expressway. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler pt cruiser. the contact stated that the headlights flickered intermittently. the failure progressed and the lights remained off for longer periods of time. additionally, the interior lighting illuminated independently. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer but the failure could not be duplicated. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 110,000 and current mileage was 167,000.

Driving on expressway all the dashlights suddenly came on and the gauges started bouncing back and forth. all went back to normal for approx 10 mls and then started all over again, this time the engine died, after coming to a stop, turning everything off, it restarted. that was my first incident since then it has happened 3 more times in different driving situations.the mechanic can not reproduce the problem when he has it, and no codes are showing , do not feel very safe in vehicle anymore. *tr

While driving down the road the warning lights come on, starting with the seat belt light and followed by the other warning lights, next the gauges all zero out, and then the car shuts off. it has been taken to a couple of chrysler dealers and to a couple of independent mechanics, but no one could find anything wrong with it. i conducted an internet search for mechanical problems with this year, make, and model of car and found more than a few with the exact same problem and no solution. chrysler should be held accountable before someone is seriously injured or killed. its regrettable that it would have to come to something like that for someone to look into these malfunctioning vehicles. *tr

My car was just pursed yesterday and i was so excited but now today i am furious car only has 65000 miles on it i will be driving down the road and the car acts if it want to cut of on me all the gauge lights come on the gas light goes from full to empty the temp leave goes from middle to cold all the middle lights brake oil seat belt light blink on and of on and of this isn't right the dealer at albany lincoln mercury dint make me away of any problems like this i just got rid of one problem to get it on other problem its not right and when i research it on the computer alot of people that own pt cruisers have gone thru this problem with no relief i need help my 87 year old grandma bought me this car because i am terminally ill and needed reliable transportation to get to the doctor with no worries not to get scammed please help me thank you *tr

I was traveling on i-95 north in the vicinity of fredericksburg, va at approximately 65 mph, and without warning, the engine shut off. the brakes failed to respond; i put the vehicle in neutral. i was traveling in the left lane. i was able to put my hazards on, but because my brakes did not respond, i had to coast approximately a mile before my vehicle actually stopped. this was particularly frightening because i also had my two young children in the vehicle with me. after stopping, i tried to crank the vehicle and got nothing. the radio and lights came on, but the engine wouldn't budge. quite frankly, i feel fortunate to be alive given that i was traveling at a high rate of speed on a very busy interstate highway. i had it towed a repair shop. at first they weren't getting any diagnostic readings, but eventually they diagnosed it as a failed fuel pump. i had the fuel pump replaced the next day, and although i did not drive very far, the car ran fine. the day after that, i couldn't crank the car. i purchased a new battery from the same people who replaced the fuel pump. everything was fine until 19 november 2012. i drove my kids to school, drove back home, and went inside for a few minutes. when i came back out and tried to crank my car, it died after about 10 seconds. i tried two more times and the same thing happened. on my last attempt i heard a whirring sound but the engine would not turnover. i tried to jump the battery, and they didn't work either. i spent 20 minutes trying to crank it. my wife tried later in the afternoon with the same poor results. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler pt cruiser. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled unexpectedly as all the gauges failed to operate normally. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing however, the mechanic was unable to diagnose the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 52,000. the current mileage was 55,474. ...updated 11-18-13 *bf

Car dash lights would all light up , (all indication lights) then the car would shut off completely while driving all power would go off. the car won;t restart for several minutes. the problem has gotten worse, now on route one highway at the rate of speed 65 miles an hour the car shut off , avoided a accident with a tractor trailer, no one seems to know what the problem is cannot help me. *tr

While driving 25 mph my vehicle dash board gauge just started lighting up. the speedometer started spending around, and then it just shut off, it started up again, but it did it several times before i was able to drive it.please help me to find out what is wrong with my car. i have had several thing replace on it and it still doing the same thing, cant afford another car now. *tr

All warning lights come on, gauges on speedometer & tach spin around, fyi: coil had been replaced one year prior.( vehicle then shuts off.) the dealer performed complete inspection of ignition and fuel injection system. no problems found. removed cylinder again to inspect for any internal failure & internal components are ok. replaced injector as safety measure. reassembled, drove and no further engine lite found. i have documentation up until a new transmission was installed on 9/29/14. this is an ongoing prob with exact same concerns and codes either don't showup at the dealer or are not accurate. as of today my car is doing the same things and just spent $2500 for new transmission that i feel it never needed in the first place. i feel the codes are not reading properly. help !!! have no more money to put into car; it has only 29,000 miles right now. afraid i'll get rear-ended so only use on side streets even though i have freeways accessible to me. please this car is our only transportation; either needs to be recalled or fixed and no charge and reimburse me for $$$ spent. thank you for your help i desperately need. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler pt cruiser. after starting the vehicle, the contact noticed that all of the interior electrical components failed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be determined. the current and failure mileages were 45,000.

Engine lights come on randomly. idle speeds inconsistent. windshield cracked straight across

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler pt cruiser. the contact stated that when braking to a stop with the air conditioning unit activated, the vehicle would start to idle roughly. when shifting into reverse, the air conditioning unit would shut off. the contact also stated that the vehicle would sporadically refuse to start. the vehicle was not diagnosed but the starter was replaced. the vehicle was in need of additional repairs unknown to the contact. the failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 100,000.

The indicator lights on the dashboard begin flashing on and off and the gauge needles move back and forth. after that the car stalls. it was taken to the chrysler dealer in carlsbad, california in january 2012. no codes came up and i was told i needed a new battery. this did not fix the problem. this problem has re-occurred on numerous times to date. on one occurrence the car stalled in an intersection. the most recent repairs occurred on 6/30/2014 (i was told the ignition coil and a spark plug wire needed to be replaced) the problem re-occurred on 7/18/2014. *tr

My wife and i obtained a 2006 pt cruiser from her father in 2008 with 12,980 miles on the odometer. in 4 years we've added about 12,000 miles. starting last winter, both while being driven at city speeds (30-45 mph) and while idling, this 2006 pt cruiser has periodically had a problem with the lights and gauges on the instrument panel. the needles all simultaneously switch back and forth rapidly, then go to the off position. the panel lights turn off at the same time, then after a few seconds to a few minutes, the panel returns to normal. prior to last friday, 10/12/2012, these incidents had not presented a danger or interfered with driving. however, on friday, my wife was driving the car in heavy traffic, and this time the panel went haywire as described before, but the car suddenly lost all engine power. the car would not respond to her pressing the accelerator, and she was forced to coast to a slow roll in the 40 mph traffic! then, the engine reengaged suddenly and the car surged forward when she wasn't expecting it. she refuses to drive it again. our local chrysler service tech seemed to be completely unfamiliar with this problem when i described it to him, and a call to chrysler corp llc proved useless. a cursory investigation online turns up dozens of this exact complaint over the past 5 or 6 years, and virtually all of them indicate a number of attempted solutions, including replacing the battery, the vacuum hoses, the wiring harness, the fuses, or the instrument cluster, and none of these apparently eliminate the problem. is this as common a complaint as it appears to be? if so, how can it be resolved? *tr

Sometimes dashboard gauges go crazy on and off same with dashboard lights . engine sometimes turns off, no codes. dealer has been unable to reproduce the fail, they said nothing is wrong with it. *tr

Driving on interstate my dash lights/gauges went crazy (on/off,on/off). finally went back to normal. then in dec. i went out to start it & nothing, tried to jump it & nothing...end up buying new battery & it started right up. this month (may 10 2012) was driving to an appt. & dash lights all came on & then engine quit, pulled off road, turned key to off & back on (car started right up), no more trouble that day. may 13 2012 driving & dash lights would all come on & then go off several times, the engine didn't stop this time. what if i am on interstate again & it does this, injuring someone. i'm not happy with chrysler, there is no recall. mileage is 71, 200. apparently problem seems to be in the steering column, you just shake it or turn key off/on it quits. don't kav the money to fix & mechanic can't get it to this when he has car. *js

2006 with less than 60,000 miles on it started hard time cranking, jerking, skipping and losing power down to about 25 mph. replaced plugs, wires, battery and crank sensor nothing seemed to fix it. i went online to see if this was a regular problem with the pt cruiser and on several websites found it was a continual problem here is the result of one of the searches: i ran into that problem with a customer's pt cruiser the same year as yours. what i found by accident during diagnosis was the connectors terminals that plug into the front control module lose terminal tension causing intermittent electrical concerns. the way i found it was by wiggling the wiring harnesses that go up underneath the module which caused the problem to show up. i had to dissemble the connectors and re tension the terminals. the terminals are kind of dinky on those and it wouldn't take many plugging and un-plugging of the connectors to cause the terminal to lose tension. no fix is listed on the chrysler website or anywhere yet there a numerous complaints. i bought this car for my 16yr old (now 17) never had a problem with it until now. when going down the interstate it went from 65 to 25 and she was scared senseless. this could have been a tragic accident. now the car does it we push the plugs back in runs fine then when the car is ran for any length of time it does it again. push the plugs back in runs fine so i do know if it is this part i hope for a fix before someone gets really hurt from the loss of power so abruptly. websites i referred to: carjunkie.com, ask.com, chrysler.com, google.com sear for 2006 chrysler pt cruiser. *kb

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler pt cruiser. while driving at various speeds, the engine stalled, the steering wheel seized, and the entire instrument panel illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 55,000.

Our 2006 pt cruiser has an electrical issue that the dealer has not been able to fix. when turning on the vehicle, the headlights turn on the low beams, the blinkers do not work, the windshield wipers do not work, you can not turn off the low beam head lights, nor can you turn on the high beams. the car was recently at the dealer for repairs. they indicated that the issue was related to the clockspring mechanism in the stearing column. they replaced the clockspring mechanism. everything worked correctly for 2 days. the problem is now back, apparently not related to the clockspring. if you do an internet search for 2006 chrysler pt cruiser headlights blinkers windshield wipers not working you will get many hits about the same issue. *tr

Fron wind shield wipers do not work and air bag light keeps coming on. purchased a used 2006 pt cruiser touring edtion on 4/5/2011. took it to dealer and found that tipm needs to be replaced. purchased this vehicle from a local dealer and did not know the car had these problems. it was orginally thought that a switch was only needed. after taking it to the dealer, it was determined that a wind shield wiper motor and a switch for the turn signals was needed. now, it turns out the electrical system has a short and the tipm needs to be replaced (after the diagnosic test, of course). this is going to cost at least $900. and the vehicle is not covered under the factory warranty anymore. please help. i work three (3) jobs, am a single parent and head of household, and my money is very limited. *tr

Upon purchasing a used 2006 pt cruiser touring edition vehicle on 3/5/2011from boulevard pre-owned in durham, nc, found that the wind shield wipers did not work and the air bag light kept coming on. dealer said vehicle was under warranty and he would fix the problems. took it to him on several occasions, even missed a few hours of work and missed daughter's scheduled dental appointment to try to get car fixed. thus, after much frustration, i decided to take it to an authorized chyrsler dealer for repairs, after the dealer finally agreed to pay up to $150 toward the repair of the vehicle. on 3/21/2011, i dropped the vehicle off overnight, since the wind shield wiper motor was to arrive on 3/22/2011 (it was originally thought that the wiper switch had to be replaced instead). after taking it to the dealer and doing a diagnosic test, i was told i needed a new wiper motor and a new switch for the turn signals, since it was also faulty. now, on 3/22/2011, i get a call from the technican saying the electrical system has a short and the tipm needs to be replaced also. this along with the wind shield wiper motor will cost more than $900. and the vehicle is not covered under the factory warranty anymore. i have to purchase an extended warranty before my 30 days of purchase is over. please help. i work three (3) jobs, am a single parent, and is head of household. my money is already stretched too tight. after having had previous car issues with another car, i really do not need this. thank you. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler pt cruiser. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the electrical system malfunctioned. the failure caused the exterior lights, interior lights and all other electrical features to fail as well.the vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic stating that the failure was contributed to the steering column. the vehicle was neither diagnosed nor repaired by an authorized dealer. the failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 112,000.

I own a 2006 chrysler pt cruiser w/automatic trans. the electrical system, inc. the 4 cyl engine in my vehicle completely failed 3 sepsraste times, twice last year, and 1 time so far this year while driving in a residential area. this condition causes the air bag to not deploy; exterior and interior lights as well as all power assist systems such as steering and breaks, as well as all other electrical accessories to fail. i contacted the vehicle manufacturer and was instructed to take my vehicle into the local dealer as i was able to restart, as was i able each time previous, given i experienced no further problems until last week. however, the dealer diagnostic test yielded nothing which could account for the vehicle complete operational shut-down. i was advised there are no recalls, or warranty, and the dealer informed me to contact the manufacturers customer assistance center to advise them. the customer case manager indicated there would be no assistance forthcoming as the diagnostic testing showed nothing conclusive. the latest falure milease was 72,000.

The cars electrical all turns off the car stalls and turns off at all times i've changed the timing belt total power integration module and it still does this. it has almost cause an accident on multiple occasions stopping at different times at intersections and on the hwy. *tr

On august 16, 2010 we were driving back from an appointment doing about 70mph. it was around 100 degrees f outside (san antonio, tx). ironically, our 2006 pt hit 42,000 miles and when it did, all of the warning lights flashed on and all needles (speedometer, fuel gauge, tachometer, etc.) dropped to their "engine off" positions. i did not notice any loss in power and the exterior lights remained on. this happened a couple of miles further down the road and repeated every few miles. this continued to occur even as we approached our subdivision at speeds around 30 - 40 mph. to date, this happens on occasion and we have only experienced one stall. being that the car is a manual transmission, it started right back up when i released my foot from the clutch. i have had diagnostic tests run by the dealer, mechanics driving the car for long periods of time, etc. the problem never repeats itself with the mechanics. i have spent $700 and more with no results. we even had the spark plugs changed since they were not the recommended ones. chrysler replaced the plugs which had been installed by goodyear. this is very frustrating. *tr

I had safelite come out to replace my windshield- when i turned on my vehicle to head to sj i turned on my headlights/fog lights and they would not go on tried my blinkers and windshield wipers nothing was working all functions associated with knobs on steering column would not work. drove vehicle down the street adjusted steering wheel a couple times lights came on....then they would not shut off. the lights will either not come on or shut off it is now at the dealership for the 3rd time to correct this issue they have replaced the instrument cluster and now the new service guy believes its the multi-switch...we'll see... i would never purchase a pt cruiser again much less a chrysler!!!! btw the problem did seem corrected after the 1st repair and 2nd repair however as soon as i drove it 50 miles the problem occurred again. i thank god i drive with my headlights on during the day because i could have been stuck far from home with no lights, turn signals in the dark! *tr
