2001- pt cruiser -emergency brake disengaged while running. was in neutral (manual transmission) and on an incline. the car drifted backwards down the drive and into a utility pole across the road. on other instances the brake handle was pulled upward and immediately disengaged (like a broken spring). when parking brake was reapplied, it worked properly? also, the car has drifted backwards on steeper inclines while in gear. at this point the latest incident was reported, but no action was taken thus far. *nm

Emergency parking brake broke

Vehicle was parked at a slight incline in neutral and park brake applied. vehicle rolled backwards, and hit another vehicle. no injuries, damage to vehicle was $ 1300.00. on 21 august 2002, vehicle was parked on level road with park brake applied. again vehicle rolled backward, consumer was able to stop vehicle. vehicle has not been examined by dealer.*ak

Vehicle was parked in front of consumer's driveway on an incline and on a hill. he went to pull parking brake, and vehicle was rolling backwards.applied brakes, brakes went straight up and didn't hold. dealership was aware of problem.*ak *slc

Parking brake occasionally fails to engage. it also has disengaged by itself. once it rolled away and knocked over a sign. dealer unable to replicate problem.*ak
