Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2006 Chrysler 300

While driving on more that one occasion my knee accidentally bumped the ignition key and turned the car while moving i was able to restart the car without incidents. i contact chrysler twice regarding this matter to give the a heads up but i have not heard from about resolving the problem. i bought this car new in 2006. *tr

After refueling the car stalled multiple times leaving me stranded in the middle of the street during rush hour. this incident has happen 4 times in the last 4 weeks. *tr

I was driving the car and the headlights shut off, dash lights went out and warning lights on the dash started lighting up and blinking on the dash. in addition, the gauges all dropped to zero and then returned after a few seconds. everything returned to normal after a few seconds except the headlights. the headlights returned when switched to on instead of auto (it was dark outside). this all happened while the car was in motion at 60mph. after the car was parked and engine shut down, i restarted it and the headlights worked properly in the auto setting again. this problem replicated itself 2 weeks after the first incident. again, headlights shut off while driving in the dark. *tr

I was driving on the highway on my way home from work and all a sudden the check engine light came on and the car shut down and the rpm dropped. i couldn't steer or anything. there was no warning or nothing luckily i was able to drift slowly to the side and there wasn't no serious accident. i restarted my car and it drove normally after this incident but check engine light stayed on then again today on the 24th of december i was driving to the store and the same thing happen but again good thing i was in the far right lane to pull over...im not a rocket scientist but this isn't safe to drive my car and especially while i have my kids in the car, something bad can happen. *tr

As i was driving my car shut-off and started back up on it's own when i was starting from a red light. going up the next hill it did it after stopping at a stop sign. over the next few days it would do this at different times and different speeds. at times it would not start back up on it's own i had to turn the key. eventually, it starting shutting off at the garage i sent it to while being run on machines. it turned out to be a computer problem that required a new computer be put in. i am filing this incident because for the 2007 model of the same car there was a recall and free replacement of the computer. i have been told by an chrysler maintenance worker that the reason the 2007 was covered was that the sub-contractor for that year was participating with chrysler to pay for the recall or paying it themselves. however, the sub-contractor for the 2006 model was not. i believe chrysler is responsible for their end product and should pay for my new computer and installation. this work cost me over $2,100 for a problem that they knew about. my mechanic was told by one chrysler dealer that there just have not been enough 2006 models with the 2007 issue to warrant a recall. they even provided the chrysler mechanic to install the computer and reset it for the shop i had the work performed. *tr

I was driving on the off-ramp of a freeway and my car abruptly stalled. there were no warning lights or anything. after several tries, my car started up again. approximately 2 months later, the same thing happened while i was driving on the freeway. this time, it took approximately 20 minutes for my car to start up again. *tr

I'm writing this because i believe that these 300s with hemis are death traps waiting to happen and strongly feel that a recall is necessary. it's happened about 8 times since we bought the vehicle in july, 2013 but the latest was last week, saturday, march 8, 2014 at about 11:30pm. my husband, my 6 mo baby, and myself had just filled up the gas tank on our way home. we were making a right turn out of the gas station and onto the main road, when the car went completely dead. the engine shut down and the steering wheel locked up. my husband had to put the car in park and, after about 3 attempts and a good 20 seconds or so, he finally got the car started. it spurted a little but started to move. about a mile later, we were pulling onto our street, when the car died again and did the exact same thing. lucky for us there weren't many cars on the street and everyone was alright but this is not safe! this has happened in the middle of the day when oncoming traffic was going full speed, at least 45 mph!! someone can die! after this latest incident, i've refused to drive the car due to it's unreliability and our car is currently at the dealership and has been for the past 2 days-going on 3. it took the service manager 2 days to figure out it's a faulty gas tank and that's after we told him about the nhtsa investigation, action number: pe13016, which just ended, february 10, 2014. apparently, chrysler extended it's warranty to cover gas tanks for a lifetime but, not for all chrysler 300s! we are being charged $1,905 for our gas tank to be replaced, which should be eligible for a lifetime warranty on our fuel tank but i called chrysler today and they told me that there is no extended warranty attached to our vin. please help before someone gets seriously injured and recall all gas tanks or at least extend the warranty to cover more, if not all chrysler 300s!! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler 300. the contact stated while driving various speeds, all of the gauges on the instrument panel malfunctioned and all of the warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 108,000 and the current mileage was 109,000. rk

All equipment on the dashboard shut down for about 2 minutes. even though i know i was going somewhere around 55 mph, and trying to stay with traffic, i could not tell my speed, the rpm read zero, the gas level read empty, and my speed read zero. then all the dashboard lights came on and all was normal again. this repeated maybe 4-5 times in a row. off for about 2 minutes, on for maybe a minute, then back off. we have experienced all of this happening momentarily (maybe lasting a second) since we bought the car used 1 1/2 years ago. dealership could not get it to happen for them, so they could do nothing for it. this issue has now escalated to a point that i feel it could be dangerous if it continues, or gets worse. *tr

Vehicle stall after fueling up. *tr

I turned my ignition on to warm my vehicle before getting in to travel. i warmed the vehicle for about twenty of twenty five minuites. i came out and put some belongings into the vehicle and went back inside of my office for about another five minutes. when i returned to get into my vehicle, it had jump into reverse and was going backwards into traffic. the oncoming traffic dodged the vehicle by going around it. it finally landed into a ditch of water. lots of water damage, and damage to the body. no one was hurt, because no one was in the vehicle. may vehicle was in good shape. i had never had anyneed for major repairs. who is responsible for the default, malfunctioning and damage done to my vehicle? i called the manufacturer and was told that my vehicle was not in recall, therefore they are not accountable. *tr

After filling up engine complete shut down , after pulling into intersection. problem has happened about 6 times. very careful not to fill tank full. as we have researched this problem , and find there are a lot of people with the same complaint. very dangerous. don't know what to do because, chrysler doesn't seem to acknowledge the problem.. any help is appreciated. *tr

Exterior lights flicker on and off everyday while i'm driving even though the light knob is in the off position the lights will go on and off(exterior lighting and dash lights). took it to a few mechanics and they say i need to replace the electrical wiring which costs $400-600!! please recall this is not safe and i'm obviously not the only owner experiencing this problem, thanks! *tr

While driving, all the warning lights came on and flashed for about 2 seconds. this continued to happen about once a week, or sometimes 3x per day. once, all the gauges went dead as well. very distracting and unsettling while driving. my wife had a similar problem with her chrysler town and country van, and sears suggested she replace the battery. her problem seems to have been solved. mine continues to be a problem. the fresno chrysler dealer told me they have never heard of this problem, although there are multiple complaints of this discussed on the internet. here are a few sites: http://www.300cforums.com/forums/srt8-specific-general-discussion/25584-indicator-warning-lights.html http://www.300cforumz.com/showthread.php?t=92854 http://www.carcomplaints.com/chrysler/300c/2006/electrical/flashing_warning_lights_loss_of_electrical_power.shtml they suggest replacing the entire wiring system and the computer, at a cost of $4200.00. please check and see how many similar wiring harness failures/replacements have been made on 300s and if this is a common problem that needs to be investigated and recalled.thank you *tr

Car stalls while driving without warning. i've had this happen at least three times and a couple of times, i had trouble restarting the car. the unpredictable nature of the problem make me apprehensive to drive the car on the highway, or on any long trips. *tr

I have contacted chrysler corp customer service about a few of the safety issues i have experienced with my chrysler 300 limited. no heip! i have experienced the gear shift getting stuck in drive. after going onto a chrysler forum where many other 300 customers experienced the same thing i found a quick fix to allow me to drive the car to a local repair shop using a screw driver. long story but yes i had to stick a screw drive into the gear box to release the car into drive and out repair cost $175 i was informed my vin wasn't a part of the recall! next issue the cooling fans in front of the car. i was getting some food at drive thru. as soon as i drive in line i heard a loud bang one of the fans mounts became loose and the fan blades hit to side wall and broke. $500 later to replace and yes again there was a recall for that but not my vin!!!! final straw my son and i where driving home from a game it was raining. both of us notice the smell of smoke coming from the vent it was faint but consistent. we luckily didn't have far travel home. when i pulled in and turned the car off i opened the hood a lil bit smoke and because the rain was hitting the engine it made a lil bit more of smoke. so i closed it and went inside. the next day i noticed both the passenger head light and fog lights weren't working. i checked the fuses, good. went up to get replacement bulbs. the employee at the store had a [xxx] of a time trying to removing the light from the harness. we noticed that the plastic was melted and dis colored. when i got home i got a look at the fog light harness it was factory fogs and the harness was melted black plastic. so i had to order replacement fog lights and head lights $475. im thankful we where blessed that the car didn't fully catch fire because no amount of money could replace my son!! there is 3 more electric issues at this time! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler 300. while driving at 70 mph, the vehicle stalled. in addition, while in park, the vehicle independently started and jerked and the engine and steering wheel made abnormal noises. the contact also stated that the steering wheel seized and as contact attempted to turn the vehicle off, the key failed to turn and remained in the on position. all interior lights flickered. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 80,000.

Our chrysler 300c has stopped running while driving at least 10 times over the last year or so. on freeway and city streets. it usually starts back up once your stopped. my wife is afraid to drive it anymore. it is a very scary situation. no engine, no ps and no brakes. no code or check engine light. everyone i have talked to with a 300 has had the same problem, no matter what the year or engine. like most there is no sense taking it to dealer. they just say no code and give you some bs story about what caused it. no come up with a fix. chrysler knows they have a problem and won't man up and fix it. they would rather someone die first to save money. it has to be in the computer. just like toyota and their fly by wire throttle that was causing all the crashes. what is the public suppose to do if they won't step up. *tr

While driving, all the warning lights come on and flash for a few seconds. sometimes the speedometer goes to zero. this has been happening a few times a month for the past two+ years.i see that others are having the same problem. http://www.carcomplaints.com/chrysler/300c/2006/electrical/flashing_warning_lights_loss_of_electrical_power.shtml why is there no recall on this? *tr

Owner of chrysler 300 and have taken car in every 3,000 miles as instructed by service center at dealership where i bought it. it appears dealer was notified may 27, 2015 about air bag but never called to put me on alert . took the car to the dealer once i got the recall notice and was told it would be 6 to 8 working days. called on day 9 and it wasnt in. told them i need the car for appointments and to go to work. was told to call chrysler in detroit about that problem. i will call dealer once a week until fixed. in the past ive requested a check on the sun roof and they never got the person out to check it. said it was expensive. asked them to check trunk because when it rains or after car washes collapses and slams shut. i was told, theres nothing wrong with it. has gotten me in the head twice. im pulling service receipts to check other problems. radio goes bing bing when i turn it on and continues for a while after the radio comes on. answer from service dept: "never heard that before". gps system won't work. tried to use it and it sent a message: check the disc drive (words to that affect) tried to check disc drive and can't get it to open. button is frozen. tow truck driver was out to charge a battery in another car and heard the tick tick going on in the chrysler. he said take it in ... he lost an engine because he didn't. they fixed it once and told me i got it in just in time. it's ticking again. car appears to be in a total state of failure. fix its: plug adapter 7-19-13; lever shift kit (car won't come of park) 7/19/13; adj tire pressure rating - $10 for technician 1/26/13; replace right head - rocker arm inlet and exhaust 12/21/11; $640 for 30,000 mile checkup and flushed engine; never once told me there were major problems. 66,254 miles.

After filling car it stalled as pulling away from fuel island, restarted drove 1/8 mi to stop sign ,stalled restarted ,did this 4 times in a row ,did not trust car for planned trip, used other car. has happened total of 6 times now ,if car sets for a couple of hours after refueling it is ok .only has happened at refilling tank,we do not keep clicking nozzle,to get most in . has almost caused accident with my wife(her car, loves it ) after fill up, car stalled going around a turn and she almost hit a stone wall, lost of brakes, steering. (only time it has stalled while driving.) 99% as coming to stop, and always restarts right away. *tr

Vehicle was parked in garage. had been driven home at 11:30p.m. and woke up to fire in the garage at 1a.m. entire home and contents were lost. we had to jump from 2nd story windows to escape our home. fire department and fire marshals felt that fire began in the garage and found it undetermined, but told us that they felt strongly that it was the vehicle. we contacted our insurance company with info we found online that stated the braking problem was being recalled. they stated that they had no information to pursue. car was also a total loss. is there anything more we can do to find out why this recall #06v149000 was never sent to us? had we known we would have parked the vehicle away from our home!!!! and would have gladly taken it in for repair that was needed. I just purchased a chrysler 300c back in july. i had to return to the dealership 4 times for the ez-up window on the driver side malfunctioning. they stated to me that chrysler knows about the problem but don't know how to fix it. every time they reset the computer, the window works for about 3 days then stops working. this is getting annoying to me. *jb

I recently purchased a new chrysler 300m (limited edition) 2006. weeks after purchasing, the engine stalls and then resumes while driving; the engine shuts completely off while stopped; and, the engine, after starting it once it has shut-off, would not go in the appropriate gear shift. the vehicle was taken to the dealership 6 times and the problem still exists. i have been without my vehicle close to 2-months. every time they have returned my vehicle, it has to be returned for the same cause. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated after shifting the transmission from park to reverse, the brake pedal was released and the vehicle accelerated on its own. the brake pedal was depressed again, but the vehicle did not respond. the vehicle stopped after hitting a ditch. there was minor damage to the vehicle and no injuries. the vehicle was towed the dealership, the computer stored no codes and the dealer was unable to duplicate the problem. updated 8/1/2006 - the consumer's vehicle started electrical problems a week after it was purchased. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer several times for repairs. the radio went out then came back on. the all the panel light went out. the dealer replaced the cluster. the esp bas light illuminated on the dash. the dealer replaced the parking brake switch. the driver's side window auto up function failed. the dealer calibrated the auto up function. when turning the key to start the vehicle it doesn't start. sometimes it takes 3 or 4 tries before the vehicle will start. the dealer replaced the wireless control module. ignition switch was replaced because the vehicle wouldn't start. *nm

Car became unpredictable touch the accelerator it would lunge when in gear, idle was erratic was afraid to drive it. so it has been sitting until my appointment date that is 7-6-06. i went out to see if i could drive it. so with two malfunction indicators it will be towed to dealer. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated the horn is difficult to press. the vehicle was seen by a dealer. the dealer could not perform any repairs and determined this was a design issue. the dealer suggested the contact should find a more sensitive area of the horn to press. updated 03/28/06. *jb

My 2006 chrysler 300 with 6800 miles on it has been in the shop twice for the a/c and has not yet been fixed. after traveling for a distance, a/c stops blowing cold air. the first time it went to the shop, they did not detect anything and told me to bring it in when it is accruing. the second time it stopped, i drove straight to the dealer with it not working and they still told me it is not giving any code to tell them what is wrong so they cant fix anything. they agreed with me that something is wrong, but they could not determine it. so i have a new car with an a/c that just stops when it wants, and i am just supposed to deal with it as they will say. *nm

I purchase a 300 touring on nov 5 2006. this was a brand new car with only 4 mile. the check engine light came on the first time on nov 17. i contacted the dealership and took the car in. i was told that they did a diagnostic test and didn't see any code indicating that anything was wrong. the light was reset and the car was return to me. i drove it again for several days and the light came back on again for the second time nov 23 2006. i contact the dealership again and took the car in. i was told that when the tech started the car he didn't see the light on. i was told to take the car home. when the problem started the car had less than 1500 miles. i don't feel safe driving this car. i have the feeling the dealership is just resetting the light and not trying to fix the problem. i did notice on your site that this was a problem with the 300 touring. *jb
