Gear shift stuck in park. the interlock return spring hook is broken. i have to press a pink lever under gear shift to get out of park. i had to take console apart to get to leaver. i am finding out that some vehicles have a recall on this defect and others do not. i am told that vehicles made in certain factory's have recalls. why is that fair that although mine was not made in a certain factory, but is still broke, it will not be repaired? i have purchased many chrysler products in the past and have been very complimentary of my chrysler 300 except for this issue. *tr

I parked my car on sunday mid-day. i tried to leave on monday morning for the store and it will not move out of park. nothing has been done other than my researching the net and finding that you've had hundreds of complaints as well as chrysler's 'partial recall k39' that they're saying will only cover certain vin's. that is crap! if the spring is broken it's broken. don't matter where they made it or what stamp is on my dashboard. as a 37 year old medical biller, that has a husband whom works out of town monday through friday, with a child at home (12) and my currently having a broken foot....i'm pretty mad that i had to follow chryslers instructions to their mechanics of how to remedy this problem on their select cars that they are willing to take care of. i took my laptop to the car, sat crunched up in it because there is a heat index out of the roof here so i needed the a/c on, followed their instructions and well what do ya know.... that piece of crap junk spring is broken off the front left pink pulley thing. now, i get to sit and wait for them to 'decide' at the case management senior escalation team, if they are going to adopt my vin into this recall coverage. wth! are you kidding me? i did not make the car. i did not break the car. their crappy, cheap behinds made a faulty shifter and now we have to take the brunt of it. it is to an extent a safety issue because 'what if' there was an emergency that i had to go to? this is crazy! i tell ya what if... i'd have to hire a taxi to take me to the emergency or call ems to take me a 1/2 block down he street if my sons asthma flared out of control. i'd get stuck not only with a hefty bill tow it, bill to the dealer to repair, but a bill to fix it and ems bill. this is crazy! and i'm not stopping until we get some idiot higher up at chryslers attention. *tr

2005 chrysler 300 touring 70,000 miles the car gets stuck in park. looking on the internet it looks like alot of 300's are doing the same thing. we have a 2007 chrysler sebring that did the same thing but it was covered under a recall. why isn't the 300 covered under the same recall? *tr

My chrysler 300 gear shift sticks in park. *tr

About 6 months ago, my gear shift started "sticking" in park. would not go into reverse without a lot of coaxing. what i did was to keep pumping the brakes and after about 10 or so pumps, the gear shift would release. more recently, my car will just die even when i am going over 40 mph. most of the time, i can just shift it into neutral and restart it. i am not sure of what the outcome would be if i were perhaps going around a corner since the power steering goes out when this occurs. actually as i think about it, it also did this when it was brand new, when i took it to the dealership they said there was no record of it on the computer therefore they could not fix it. *tr

I have never had a problem with my chrysler 300 up until this morning as i started my car for work. my car was stuck in "park". as i researched this deficiency online it i noticed that it has been an ongoing occurrence with chryslers of all type. i called many chrysler dealerships and found that this is a problem that has been repaired on a normal basis. my complaint is there is no recall on this deficiency and this is costing consumer too much money that we don't have to spend on this. i have my car serviced regularly so this should have not happened. *tr

My chrysler 300 is stuck in park! *tr

My cars engine started clacking and smoking for several days - then the engine started shaking and would die down and almost stop when driving. i had it towed to the auto shop and was told that they would not honor my warranty because there was a lot of sludge in the engine and i had not changed the oil on a regular basis. my husband kept up to date on all changes of oil. it is a 2.7 engine made by chrysler manufacture with 78,844 miles and the warranty is up to 80k miles. i filed a complaint with the ag's office in boston, ma where i live and called chrysler to tell them that i know about the 2.7engine sludge problem. the ag is investigating it while my car is currently at the chrysler service center waiting for me to go and get it back. i also have suspension problems; horn does not work, air bag control sensor problems, struts replaced, and many, many, more along the years. the engine is a 2.7 engine. i want my warranty honored as i cannot assist my disabled daughter unless i work and have transportation for both her and myself. i don't know what to do - i am currently sending as much information on complaints of this nature to the atty gen office as they requested. can you help me? *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler 300. the contact was unable to shift the vehicle from the park position. the contact was advised by a tow truck company to enable the override switch below the console. the contact reset the over ride switch below the console and was able to move the vehicle from park. the contact experience the failure again and reset the over ride switch below the console again. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the shifter was replaced at the contact's expense. the failure mileage was 116,831 and the current mileage was unknown.

Gear shift gets locked into park and will not go into reverse when car is on and brake is pushed in. in this case we had to remove parts around the shifter to get to the pink release tab that is located below the shifter, and manually push the pink tab so that the shifter could go in reverse. the car is placed in neutral as of now, so that the car doesn't get stuck in park again. the emergency brake is on but can be a very serious problem if not fixed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler 300. the contact stated that the vehicle could not be taken out of the park position. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

My engine has been ticking from the beginning about 2 days after i bought it. cash! for my dad's birthday... brand new from town and country dealership. they told me to bring it back, this is in conyers ga. i took it back they said they fixed it. or it is a new engine and it will stop, or the gas cap was not on right and they would fix it. each time i bought it back the noise would stop for awhile then it would come back. just keep your oil changed and there will be no problem this is what mr. larry repair boss told me. well. i didn't hear the noise as much when i picked it up and the rental car was getting expensive and they try to tell me i didn't buy the extra warranty but i did! they told me i could keep driving it. or they tried to sell me a newer one...sell no way! because my job requires me to drive i need a good running car. (i'm a minister) now the noise is louder and the engine sounds like it is losing power. i can not say how many times i told them that the car needed a new engine but they kept on trying to sell me another car instead of replace the car or fix it with a new engine. the right side of my car pulled to the right when braking and they told me to go to good year and i did. they said it was manufacturing that they could not tighten up that side take it back but i ended up paying for good year to fix that. now the warranty is gone for real and the noise is louder. it is not the fly wheel or the trans it is in the engine right side in the back under the head gasket. i'm an retired jeep employee and i use to inspect on the engine line. i knew this was not good to keep happening so now i have to pay for a engine too? wow pistons or lifters, or something is wrong with that car in my engine! help! [xxx] is it because i'm a girl? they didn't listen or got treated this way. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Vehicle was parked in drivewaythe previous day. on date below, the vehicle was started to leave and the transmission shift lever would not come out of park. the vehicle is equipped with an emergency release button in the shift console and that would not release the shifter. tow truck had to be called. *tr

Without any warning the gear shift would not move out of park. i had the vehicle towed to the shop and found that i had to replaced the gear shifter component in my chrysler 300 vehicle. i later found out that this part has been recalled on other dodge and chrsyler vehicles, but not on mine. now today my car is showing symptoms that the gear boc may be failing again. the key will not come out of the ignition because the gear is not go holding property in park. i am going to take the car to a chrysler dealership and see if chrysler will fix it. i repaired the vehicle less than 5 months ago. *tr

Rather than ask for a recall. chrysler is having customers pay for the repairs, while they needed three different shifter(clips) to remedy their defective design. i have written them a letter stating my concerns but they have denied any responsibility. *tr chrysler has repaired or re-designed the gear shift mechanism 4 times. they refused a recall notice, but stick young families with a $500 plus repair bill, due to their faulty shifter assembly. i paid for the repairs and do not want anything from them, but to know they have taken advantage of unsuspecting families. ..updated 12/17/13 *bf

I parked my car in my work parking lot. when i went out at the end of the day i was unable to get the car out of park. with motor running & brake applied there was still no release. i was forced to call a tow truck. the tow truck driver informed me he had towed 10 chrysler 300 that day for the exact same problem. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chrysler 300 purchased in 2008. the contact stated that the automatic transmission gear shift selector became stuck in the park position. she was able to start the vehicle; however, she still could not get the gear shift selector to shift gears. she attempted to follow the instructions in the owner's manual to remove it from the park position and was unsuccessful. the vehicle was towed to a nearby automotive service station and the tow truck driver stated that he has had several identical failures for her year, make and model vehicle. the mechanic stated that the shift box was faulty and would cost over $600 to repair. the failure and current mileages were under 89,000.

Transmission stuck in park, towed to dealer 9/24/09 part 4578029ac shifter no recall noted this happened on 9/21/07 same issue same part; complaint filed then too no recall noted. *tr

I have a chrysler 300 that within the last 25,000.00 miles has had the shifter fail twice. this has resulted in the inability of the car to be shifted out of park to any gear. i have found this issue reported on numerous websites which leads me to believe that my failure is not an isolated case. chrysler has repaired the shifter both times ( once under warranty and once out ) but i feel that the part as basic as a shifter should not fail and poses a safety issue to the consumer since the failure completely immobilizes the car . *tr

My husband and i were traveling south on i5 just merging into i99 just south of bakersfield california when the car lurched to a almost total halt. we were able to coast to the shoulder. this occurred about 6:00pm. we didn't arrive home until after 10:00pm having been towed over the hill to santa clarita. needless to say having our vehicle lose power like that on crowded fast freeway was extremely hazardous. *tr

1. the events leading up to the failure. there are hundreds of reports on the internet about long term and systemic oil sludge problems causing sudden catastrophic engine failures in dodge and chrysler vehicles using the 2.7l v6 engine spanning from approx 1998-2005. my well maintained 2005 chrysler 300 engine failed suddenly and dangerously while driving. and this was 1 month after paying the chrysler dealer $850 to change the transmission fluid and coolant at factory suggested dates. with only 56,000 miles and oil changed every 5000 miles (owners manual suggests 7500) the chrysler dealer initially wanted over $2000 to fix an unexplained internal water pump leak, and timing chain failure. only after heated discussion did they back down and repair it for a $100 deductible under the 7/70 drivedrain warranty. 2. the failure, how often it occurs, its consequences. simply using google and entering "chrysler 2.7l engine failure" leads to hundreds of reports of suspected oil sludge (due to poor engine design and oil not flowing properly) that causes sudden and dangerous unexplained engine failure involving thousands of dollars. chrysler and its dealers first attempt to blame customers for not changing the oil enough or using the right oil etc. in my case my dealer said "...chrysler is being very quiet asking us to use all new parts and not giving us alot of information...". 3. what was done to correct the failure; i.e, parts repaired or replaced (and if old part is available). my dealer said chrysler told them not to talk about it and to use new and modified parts they gave them and not to use any of the old parts. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chrysler 300. the contact stated that the gear shifter would become stuck when attempting to shift out of park. the contact made several attempts to release the gear shifter but was only able to shift into drive or reverse. the vehicle was inspected by a dealer, who stated that there was a recall for the failure under nhtsa campaign id number: 05v460000 (power train) however, the contact's vin was not included in the recall campaign. there were no repairs performed on the vehicle. the failure mileage was 45,000. the current mileage was 68,000.

I have had numerous problems with my chrysler 300, which are becoming more costly and defeating the purpose of my purchasing a new car. first, i was subject to a recall regarding the transmission. next, the rack and pinion went out. thankfully that was covered under warranty. now i have to repair the outer tie rods when i have less than 75,000 miles on the car. this repair is $500.00 on top of what i have to pay for the car payment and is not covered under warranty. the brakes recently had to be replaced (another $350.00) and i am also being presented with issues pertaining to the oil pan (which apparently is made of plastic). *tr

Shifter assembly will not shift from park to reverse this may be a problem i have talked to other chrysler 300 owners who have had to replace part avg price about 500.00 my car has 24,000 miles on it and i do have my old part. *tr

Second shifter was installed 9-4-2008, mileage was 37454. at cost of $508.00. the car almost immediately needed the brake stepped on numerous times to allow the transmission to release so the car could be placed in gear.9-19-2012 the car was again taken to naples dodge, where another shifter was installed at a cost of $560.00. the second unit was 4578029ac the third 68091343aa. a new clip has been added to correct the problem which has occurred in avengers, sebrings, etc. rather than ask for a recall. chrysler is having customers pay for the repairs, while they needed three different shifter(clips) to remedy their defective design. i have written them a letter stating my concerns but they have denied any responsibility. *tr

Gear shift on 2005 chrysler 300 touring malfunctioned. couldn't remove from park position and at times had difficulty putting car in park. tried to use the manual to release. information in manual stated by depressing pink button next to gear shift would release gear from park position; but did not work. my husband is a certified technician and stated that the pink button was not connected to anything; but he was able to release it by taking apart the console to expose the main release so that we would not incurr a $150 towing cost. the vehicle was then taken to ganley/dodge/chrysler dealer and the entire gear shift had to be replaced; but they could not explain why it went bad nor why this pink button was not connected nor able to release. dealer also said that there were no recalls on this type of repair and the cost would be my responsibilty. cost of repair approximately $375 plus the part is back ordered for approximately three (3) days. i will take vacation days from work in order to have my car repaired and will be without transportation. need to know if this is a manufacturer's defeat since the infomation in the manual stated procedures to follow in the release but not effective and whether or not i can be reimbursed for the repairs and if i can send the original part back to the manufacturer so that a technician can honestly analyze if the part was installed properly and/or why it did not perform as indicated in the manual. will miss time off from work and no loaner was provided or offered. i understand that repairs must be made but something that was not done by the owner should be the responsibility of the manufacuturer if this type of repair is due to the production of the vehicle. to some, this may be inexpensive; but to others with today's economic situation; there should be no need for a consumer to endure an additional expense "just because" without a justifiable explanation. your response to this matter would be greatly appreciated.

My car is stuck in park and had to be towed to a mechanic. the mechanic told me that the part needed was part of a recall. when i called chrysler they told me that even though there is a recall my car was not part of the batch. they stated that they pick a certain amount of cars to be part of the recall but that the other ones get omitted. i called chrysler and they gave me a case number 17859460 and when i asked to speak to a manager they hung up on me. i don't feel that it is fair that i need to pay for the part and labor because chrysler decided that my car was not part of the batch. chrysler wants me to have to pay for the parts so that they can make money off of me but i feel that they need to take responsibility for something that they are in default for. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chrysler 300. the contact started the ignition and attempted to shift from park into reverse; however, the gear was stuck in the park position. there were no warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence and has not yet been repaired for the gear malfunction. the failure and current mileages were 44,000. updated 09/24/08. *lj the dealer replaced the shifter assembly. updated 10/0/108. *jb

2005 chrysler 300 touring - gear sift gets stuck in park. have had the dealer check to see if they can diagnose the problem everytime it goes in for service. have had this fixed once over two years ago - dealer stated that they adjusted the linkage. it worked fine for a while have since moved to another city and go to a different dealer. new dealer has been able to recreate the problem once in their shop but after they had the interior apart hey couldn't get the car to do it again - so it has not been fixed. car has 61,000 miles and has had this problem since 24,000. *tr

The vehicle will frequently shut off while driving. it will completely lose power. it also stalls, the gear shift has gotten stuck in park and would not move. the main concern is the fact that it cut off on me on the highway again today at 75mph!! very dangerous!! luckily the semi truck was able to swerve around me but that could have been a fatal accident! something needs to be done about this.... *tr

Went to start my car and it was fine. however i could not get the car to shift out of park.. i called the dealership and they told me about the pink little thing inside the gear console and that didn't' work either. finally had the car towed and had to pay for the shift replacement about $400.00 with no explanation on why or what happened. *tr
