We have classified the 517 complaints from 2015 Chrysler 200 about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
This chrysler 200 my2015 suddenly fails transmission indicating awd not available and fails to accelerate. works back sometime for few minutes after stop and start engine again. majority of the times fails to accelerate with the indication of a collision in the dashboard. attached a picture on how it looks. incident happened in many occasions like while driving on a freeway as well as city street , stopping in a signal light.
Several recalls have been completed and we have received 2 different new transmissions; however, we continue to experience sloppy gear shifts and inconsistent sluggish acceleration. when acceleration is needed, the engine will sometimes rev up to 5000 rpms for 1 to 2 seconds before feeling a harsh slip into gear which causes the car to jerk. in close encounter situations this leaves a very uneasy feeling that you are unable to get out of danger in a reasonable amount of time. the action seems to occur most often when decelerating quickly and then accelerating quickly as if the vehicle is stuck in too high a gear for a second or two and then harshly down shifts as you have it floored because it isn't going anywhere. dealers can't always reproduce in the brief test drives they conduct. recently, they flashed the "quick learn" component and say it now appears to be driving as designed...but if this is the design, it seems very unsafe.
A couple weeks ago my car stalled and totally shut down as i was turning into my driveway. it completely locked up including the brakes, steering, transmission and wouldn't do anything. i tried to put the car in park however the control knob to do so was locked and wouldn't move. the engine was shut down but all the electrical systems were working and several service messages cycled through the display screen. my husband had to disconnect the battery, which reset everything and allowed us to start the car and pull it out of the road and into the driveway. i called chrysler roadside and my car was towed to the chrysler dealership. after 3 days in the service dept i was informed they could not recreate the issue that caused the car to totally shut down and lock up while driving. they drove the car, however no codes were active and they were unable to get the car to throw a code while they had the vehicle. they have now returned my car to me without this major safety issue being addressed. since they could not recreate the stalling and shutdown they returned the car to me. luckily this happened as i was turning into my driveway as opposed to a few minutes earlier when i was on the highway surrounded by other vehicles. i'm very concerned that it could happen again and next time i may not be as lucky. i leased the car brand new in aug. 2014, the lease ends aug. 2017. i intended on keeping the car after the lease was up, but now i'm concerned and feel forced to give it up, even though that may not be the best decision financially. and if i do turn it in, the issue could affect the next owner.

While in motion, this car will shift violently into 3rd gear as well as 5th gear. the entire car jolts forward when this happens. this seems to be a major problem for many divers of this vehicle when doing a quick google search. why has nothing been done to correct this issue? this is not a one time event. it is a daily event. it happens when driving the car on any city street or highway.

2015 chrysler 200 driving the vehicle on multiple occasions, at least 10 to count the vehicle has randomly lost power and the engine fails. at this point i'm terrified to drive the vehicle for which i just purchased three months ago on the highway this vehicle would be a death trap. furthermore the vehicle passenger side airbag light is illuminated indicating that it will not comply i've called chrysler end the chevy dealer for which i purchase the vehicle and they told me there's no recall and it appears that my warranty will not pay for the car to get fixed.
This car shifts horribly. we purchased the vehicle last year from a dealer in green bay wi. the transmission was replaced due to a manufacturer's buyback in 2016
After sitting for an extended amount of time at times such as at the bank or drive thru's ect when you pull away it starts fine pulling away slow. then when you try to speed up to go into traffic it will slip into neutral. the only thing that i have found that helps it is to literally shift it into neutral physically then shift it back to drive. it is very dangerous in busy traffic. i took it to the dealership who "couldn't make it do it" and they said when the red engine light comes on to bring it back. i looked it up on the internet and other people have had this same issue with this model car.
Transmission shifting issues on 1st gear and when downshifting this is a known problem even in the dealership the mechanics said this is a recall in progress but no website not even mopar shows this recall; it is a known issue and chrysler is evading it. i have taken my car there twice and they do nothing and tell me to wait for the recall letter; it is unacceptable. the car will over rev and shift abruptly taking off or downshifting i feel like i will hit another car one of this days or have an accident. see attached files i have contacted mopar and the dealership twice with no results.
From january - april 2017, i have had multiple instances of losing the ability to accelerate or shift gears while making left hand turns. the car throws up error messages regarding the loss of performance shifting and "lightning bolt" symbol. i have to coast to pull over to the side of the road and restart the engine to get moving again. the last time it occurred, i had a truck behind me. luckily i was moving fast enough and was able to get out of the way without being involved in an accident. i have had the car into the local chrylser dealership on multiple occasions where they have thought they have found the problem in an electrical connector. it is currently in the shop again and has been for the past month and they still can't figure out the problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 chrysler 200. while driving 40 mph, the vehicle independently switched gears and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. on a previous occasion, the speedometer lighting flashed intermittently and continued to flash after the failure. also after the failure occurred, the vehicle hesitated to start and failed to shift from the neutral position. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the gear shift failed and needed to replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 41,000.
Over the course of the past 4 months, my vehicle has completely lost all transmission power 3 times. when this occurs, the information display reads the following messages: "service transmission," "service parking brake," "shift to p to select a gear," "performance shifting unavailable". these messages will continue to display and the car loses all power and will not change gears. the engine does stay on, but will have no throttle response and the car is effectively stuck in neutral. each of the 3 times this has happened, i have been at full speed, between 45 and 80 mph. the second two times it has happened have been in dangerous and unsafe locations, just yesterday, i lost all power while executing a left hand turn across 3 lanes of busy oncoming traffic. thank goodness for the small bit of gravity that pulled me across the intersection before a tragic accident happened. each of the 3 times, i have had the vehicle towed to a certified chrysler dealership. each of the chrysler dealerships have told me that the car "isn't throwing any codes" and does not appear to have a malfunction. they will flash a new tsb, reset the transmission, and send me on my way, only to have it happen again and no one can tell me why. the vehicle is unreliable due to these ongoing powertrain struggles, and more importantly, completely unsafe. it's caused me nearly 2 serious accidents due to total lack of control at high speeds.
The car has a several second hesitation when placing your foot on the gas when starting from either a stopped position or a slowed position. the car has stalled on several occasions when going from reverse to drive, when slowly backing up it looses power and stalls as i put my foot on the brake to change from reverse to drive. the emergency brake has come on while slowing down coming down an incline causing a car behind me to have to swerve from hitting me my vehicle was going approximately 25 miles an hour at the time. all of these have been reported to chrysler and motorworld where i have been told there is nothing that can be done.

Hello i've submitted and reached out plenty of times about a faulty transmission that when accelerated feels like it's in neutral then gets a gear and causes vehicle to make a harsh sound when kicks into gear and have almost gotten into plenty of accidents due to this. also air bag sensor in passenger seat turns on everytime someone gets in as if it doesn't work properly.
Transmission is shifting hard take out of gear while i am moving
I currently have an open complaint just filed on 2/24/2017 (complaint number 10956764) this is a continuation of that complaint. my car was being serviced at fred fredrick's chrysler dodge jeep ram in laurel, maryland on 2/24/2017 to fix/repair the issue that has caused my vehicle to come to a complete stop, without warning, while the car is in drive (i was going 58 mph on a highway when the car initially stopped without warning - see first complaint). fred fredrick's phoned and stated the issue had been resolved and they test drove the vehicle with no additional issues/problems. i picked up my vehicle at 4pm - by 8:45pm (not even 30 miles later) while in a residential neighborhood, the car had experienced the exact same issue that had just been repaired. my 2015 chrysler 200c, without warning or indicators, will come to a complete stop while in drive and i'm unable to place the car in a different gear shift or move it. for the second time in 24 hours i had to have my car towed to a dealership. my car is currently at darcars chrysler jeep dodge of silver spring, i have been told they won't be able to even look at my car until tuesday 2/28/2017. today is 02/25/2017 and i'm out of reliable transportation until at least 02/29/2017. i had to resort to paying for a rental as neither chrysler, nor darcars would pay for the rental upfront. chrysler said they "may" reimburse the rental if it is deemed that the work completed on my car was essential. in my opinion, a potentially life threatening issue should be essential - my car comes to a complete stop without notice. i have attached my service records since may 2016 ( purchased the car in april 2016 used) as well as my current rental agreement. i also have a video of the car stalled as well. this is clearly an issue with chrysler and they want to repair instead of buying my car out so that i can purchase a working vehicle
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 chrysler 200. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle vibrated and also made clicking sounds while idling. the dealer diagnosed that the failure was possibly related to an internal transmission error. the manufacturer was not notified of the issue. the failure mileage was 39,000.
While driving on a major highway at about 58mph, in the state of maryland (i was traveling on icc 200w from laurel to i95) on 2/24/2017 my car - without warning came to a complete stop and shut off. the car sputtered and the check engine light came on. the car presented a message "service transmission" "service park brake" while the "drive" function blinked profusely. i was able to maneuver the car to the shoulder and await a tow to a nearby dealership. the dealership where my car is currently located is stating that a battery wire was loose which caused the car to stop, however my car maintained power the entire three hours i waited for the tow. also as a precaution, i took pictures of the dash before being towed and both the battery power and oil were fine. i recently had my pcm and tcm reprogrammed due to a faulty dtc code (12/2016) at koons chrysler dodge jeep ram in tyson's corner, va. this was supposed to fix the issue however it clearly didn't. if i was traveling during rush hour or on another highway, i could have been hit and/or severely injured as the car stopped without warning. my car is currently being serviced at fred fredrick's chrysler dodge jeep ram in laurel, md.
The purchase of this car has been a headache since the first month of ownership. i immediately had to have a new transmission put into a brand new car, which is unheard of. there have been at least two re-calls for different parts of the car and i'm tired of spending money on a car that is a lemon!!!
When driving my vehicle it will not shift gears, i have to let up on the gas and then apply pressure to gas petal and it will finally shift very hard. sometimes while trying to exelerate on ramp to get into the highway it will not exelerate but just be stuck in first gear and then it will jump or shift very hard into the correct gear. i have had this happen many times on the highway and almost been hit because i'm coming off the ramp to slow. other times i will just be driving in the city and it will jump without shifting. i have expressed my concerns with my dealership on may occasions. this has been happening ever since i purchased the vehicle in march of 2016.
I was parked on the street one day and couldn't start the car, i called a tow truck he right away said it's a electrical issue cause the battery worked, finally he got the car started the knob shifter was just loose it turned back and forth but didn't do anything so he said he can't tow the car since it wouldn't go into neutral. the funny thing is, it shows its in the neutral position but still it's parked and wouldn't move. so far i'm sitting in my car and donno what to do. what a lemon this car is, ever since i bought it i had issues with jumpy transmission.
1- when accelerating after third gear transition goes blank or disengages and when accelerator is released downshifts abruptly. 2- sometimes when shifting from reverse to drive transmition would not engage. the automaker's fca number for this recall is s55
First, there is the hvac/windshield defrost. my concern with that condition is that my vehicle is my main source of travel and to have the hvac to work properly in the summer is vital as well, as having a clear windshield. a breakdown at night, an accident, hitting a pole hole, something or someone would be far worse than a mere inconvenience. incidentally, my intended use of the vehicle was made quite clear to the sales staff when i bought it. second, and the matter of far greater concern to me is the transmission. car making clucking noise, vibrating, jerking while shifting gears and launching while driving as if someone hit me from the back. third, vehicle is only 2 years old and has had to have the drive shaft replaced. which in return i've been without vehicle for more then 14 days and occur extra expenses of car rentals, tires and wheel alignment due to irregular wear. fourth, hesitation on attempt to accelerate. i was informed that issue would be resolved with replacement of drive shaft. defective drive shaft was the reason for delay and jerking. fifth, excessive gas burning. i was informed that exist because of drive shaft. once drive shaft was replaced it didn't resolve issue. i was giving a formula to calculate gas mileage, which was given to dealer. car averaging 16mpg. per car sticker fuel economy: highway 29/ city 18. car is driven mostly on highway without a lot of stop and go traffic.
I have had my chrysler 200 for over a year now and when i drive and push pedal to accelerate and seems like it goes to neutral so engine revs and suddenly kicks into gear i am concerned that this will lead to a crash also today a light came on indicating to check passanger airbag. at this point i do not feel safe in my car and it is the only vehicle i own
Passenger airbag light on, problems with my remote locking and unlocking vehicle, and problems with the car powering on once the ignition switch it pressed transmission light on.
The vehicle will trigger transmission error. will not disengage from park. the motor surges when downshifting causing a dangerous increase is speed. the vehicle will not start due to transmission error. taken to dealer three times for software update. does not resolve the problem.
My car has been "jerking" since i bought & was repeatedly told by cjd arlington in hat it was the 9 speed tranny & the car has to relearn my driving.12/28 my car lost power and went into neutral. it had to be towed in.they called the next day and told me the car didn't store any error messages and was safe to pick up. i refused and asked them to test the car more because there obviously had to be an issue since the car cut off & went into neutral as i was braking at a light.i had the car towed to a different cjd in town & they called the next day stating i needed a new engine and possibly a new tranny. they only replaced the engine & the tcm valve. i got the car back(1/6/17) and the next morning i pulled out on a street and the car jerked so hard. it left my neck in pain for the remainder of the day. i contacted chrysler customer care to file a complaint. i was told to take the car back to see if they could fix the issue before a resolution is determined. i was told i needed a new tranny this time. the car is still jerking, hesitating/lagging at time, and very scary to drive. i took the car in last week 2/9 with complaints and they gave it right back a few hours later saying they didn't see anything wrong. i showed a video of the car running and sounding like a lawn mover. they said the noise wasn't normal but since it wasn't showing any error messages or making the noise there they couldn't keep it. ive been trying to reach my case manager(bridgett)with fca & she won't return my phone calls as usual. she offered a trade in assistance program but it had to be another cjd vehicle & 2017 which i can't afford & don't want another vehicle from them. im tired of driving around in fear that my car will lose power again or cause me to get hit. im upside down & nobody seems to care about i have 8 service invoices about this issue.the first was 5/25. i purchased the car 3/19
Over the past six months, car has been in and out of multiple dealerships for brake system and transmission issues. the transmission shifts erratically and lurches without warning. the brake system has now caused three accidents. the brake pedal will suddenly go to the floor, and lose all braking power. this has resulted in one major collision. dealers have "fixed" the issues but they return. parking brake randomly activates on its own, causing rear wheels to lock and a loss of control of the car. this last occurence the parking brake activated on its own, causing us to skid into a ditch while travelling 70mph. the dealer said the issue was the battery and returned the vehicle to us after charging us because the battery apparently isnt covered under warranty. the next day the brake system completely failed. the car has been in the shop for two weeks now. the have replaced every major component of the braking system, but cannot get the cars brakes to work properly. chrysler either has no comment or doesn't care about the safety of its customers.
2015 chrysler 200s 3.6l sport sedan's transmission (mil) check engine light on. loss of motive power. (dtc) reads transmission shut on parked, leaves gear on parked. unable to shift or move forward and/or back out to drive. (mil) stays on. this is a reoccurring situation. pcm software has been reflashed and updated several times in the last year and checked for wire harness circuits resistance but to no avail, (obd) reads motive power loss, (mil) appear every now and then. this just happened twice again while parked, twice while in motion on a city street.
I was driving home from work when the check engine light, engine temperature warning light, and electronic throttle control light came on. in reviewing the potential issues, a number of people have had the same issue, potentially due to a faulty thermostat. when i had the vehicle scanned at autozone, it provided codes p0218 twice and p2181 once. *tr
When accelerating, car 'misses' shift points. dealer states that "everything is normal" when coming to a stop, car lurches forward unexpectedly, nearly causing a crash every time. once again dealer says this is "normal operation". driving down the highway at 55mph, brake pedal went dead and emergency parking brake activated, causing car to skid off the road. dealer says that nothing is wrong with the brakes, yet this has happened over 6 times in the past 6 months. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 chrysler 200. while driving 15 mph, the vehicle experienced a compete loss of power without warning. in addition, the contact experienced an issue with opening the vehicle's doors due to lack of power. the contact stated that the vehicle was involved in a front end collision. the failure occurred on five occasions. a police report was not filed. the contact was injured and suffered from severe migraines. medical attention was received. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v529000 (power train); however, the dealer refused to do the repair. the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not notified of the issue. the failure mileage was approximately 39,200. parts distribution disconnect.
The car intermiently slips into neutral while driving it. i've taken car into dealership and cannot make it replicate. called chrysler and even though i have found many complaints such as this, they will not pay for fixing it because they say the car hasn't been placed under a recall.
I bought a chrysler 200 2015 on 11-23-2016 since i have bought the car i have driven it only 3-5 days. it has been in the shop for the same thing every time now they are telling that they are having to put in a new transmission. i am being inning to believe i bought a lemon. when i bought the car i had asked the salesman was there any problems with these vehicle his reply was no . but the more i investigate it the more i find out it is a death trap. why won't someone do something to chrysler about these cars before someone dies. then they really will have to pay. these cars are not safe from what i am reading. please help me out. i am a single parent with sick kids i have one child that has a heart problem. and another child with a kidney disease i need a dependable car not one that i am not even gonna get to enjoy... what do i need to do. because i bought my car used at 44,000 the lemon law doesn't cover it what i have been told.also the dealership after us signing the original agreement ask me to sign three different agreements with them changing the payment amount every time. please help me!!!!! the second time i got my car back from the shop i placed it in drive and it did not move. *tr
The airbag service light came off an in for 2 days. now it stays on. i was told there is no recall for my car. the transmission jolts when going from 2nd into 3rdwhile driving. *tr
I was traveling down a city street approaching stopped traffic. i had my foot on the brake stopping the car when all of a sudden the car lunged forward hitting the car in front of me. i took the car to the dealer again for the 6th time for this problem. each time i received the car back. the dealer informed me they put an update in the computer and relearned the car whatever that meant. when i bought the car, after test driving the car i was not satisfied with the drivability of the car. this was the 5th 2015 chrysler 200 that i test drove, but it was different. the shift points were off. the car would only shift down to 3rd gear then jump to 1st on take off causing the car to jerk. i didn't wanna take possession of the car. the salesman took me to the service manager and the service manager told me that's the way they drove when a new person drives them because the new driver has to put a few hundred miles on them so the car can learn the new drivers driving pattern. me not understanding the new technology with these new cars was dumb enough to believe him. the car was actually bought for my 76 yr mother. after buying the car i took it to her and the first time she drove it, she was in traffic pulling up behind a semi dump truck. the car lunged forward and nearly collided with the truck. she was scared so bad i had to take over. she has not been able to drive again. i immediately took the car back to the dealer and told them this car is unsafe and its not going to work for my mom. the dealer don't nothing to help us but put the car back in the shop and gave it back to me doing the same thing. after the 5th time taking this car back to the shop. i talked to the owner of the car lot. i told him that this car was unsafe and if i continue to drive it its not a matter of if i'm gonna get into an accident, its a matter of when !!!!!! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 chrysler 200. while driving various speeds, the vehicle jerked and switched inadvertently from automatic to manual transmission. when the vehicle switched to manual transmission, it began to slow down. in order to drive the vehicle, the gear knob needed to be turned. the contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and was placed in manual mode in order to operate. the contact called lakeland chrysler dodge jeep ram (2875 mall hill dr., lakeland, fl 33810 (863) 687-2501) and was informed that the failure was normal. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 51,000.
(takata recall) my air bag light is on and wont go off they said i had a recall on the airbags, my main concern is the transmission my car has been in the shop at least 20 times for this same thing chrysler said they dont have a fix for the problem the car is dangerous and they all need to come off the roads. there has even been some deaths due to this recall. chrysler should be held responsable for this issue but all they are doing is just replacing the part with the same part that is recalled... please do something about this before more people get killed for this car stalling out and shuting off.chrysler needs to buyback all of these cars because of the sfaety issue with these cars. and put everyone in another vechicle ..hoe can you help us with this issue. there is over 45 complaints on complaints.com please read over these and help us with this issue before more people are killed. my car is still doing this today so from 11-27-2016 to 3-16-2018 and has not stopped or been corrected at all
The vehicle has continual jerking, rattling, and bouncing at the rear with the slightest dip in road within city limits and also on the highway and sounds as if the vehicles is about to fall apart. when driving the car will accelerate itself causing me to hard brake to avoid collision. *tr
My concern is the corrective action taken by fca regarding safety recall s55/nhtsa 16v-529. this recall identified a loss of motive power that could occur due to a faulty transaxle wire harness, possibly resulting in a crash. solution was to replace the wire harness when parts became available. after a two month wait, fca changed the suggested repair from replacing the wire harness to re-programming the pcm and tcm. this re-programming, prevents the transmission from shifting to neutral, causing a loss of motive power, but will now place the vehicle in "limp mode". dealer service managers could not provide an accurate description of that process. we know it will cause the transmission to downshift, either to third or maybe second gear, not sure which, and a reduction of maximum speed to 30 mph or less, again not sure what it will be. the root cause, the transaxle wire harness will not be replaced until the vehicle experiences this problem. so, i am left with the original problem which could fail at any time. whether the vehicle loses all motive power, or abruptly downshifts to a lower gear with a loss of acceleration while traveling at highway speeds could still produce a very unsafe condition if a person reacts incorrectly. are these corrective actions, which are not those identified in the original recall, approved by the nhtsa, or can the manufacturer change them at will? i have had this vehicle for sixteen months. five of those the vehicle remained parked in the garage due to two recalls. i do not agree with the corrective action taken.
Purchased/leasing car from american car center and from day 2 there had been problems but they keep giving me the run around. i've taken it to the shop 3x in less than 30 days. the air bag light light was on. they had me take it to a place that doesn't fix them then they sent me to the chrysler dealership who claimed to have fixed it. not even a week later the light comes on again. in the meantime i complained about the car seeming like it's going into neutral. again, acc sends me to one of their shops who says nothing is wrong with the transmission and it just need to be reset so they reset it. well the same day it was supposed to be fixed it does it two more times especially going downhill. it doesn't shift into gear as it suppose to. i put it in drive but it moves like it's in neutral then jerks into drive, not safe. if i stop at a stop sign it stalls to pull off. the passenger seat got stuck after it was let back for the first time. the speedometer glitches and the radio/phn connection does what it wants to. my main complaint is the transmission. what it's doing scares me whenever i drive it. the date it last happened is listed below.
While normal operation of the vehicle it shifts hard, stalls after 1st gear into second gear. has down shifted at highway speeds without driver input. transmission (9 speed) after several trips to the dealer, the transmission blew while pulling out of the dealership after they said it was repaired. second transmission and several software updates the transmission downshifted while on a highway at 70mph almost causing a truck traveling behind me to rear end the vehicle since i was in the middle lane with no options to pull to the right. car is currently at the dealer and during a test drive while on cruise control at 40mph the rpm jumped to over 5k. after the tech shut the cruise off it continued to do the same thing. this transmissions design is scary and immediate action should be taken before someone is seriously injured. your agency needs to act now!
Car shifts into neutral while driving, repaired multiple times by dealer, but still happening, almost in 4 near collisions! happens on the freeway at all speeds, happens when stopped and slowing or accelerating. once it froze in neutral and would not turn off or go into park and was towed while still running. has happened starting at 6000 miles and still happening at 40000 miles!
