After owning my car for only a few months the check engine light came on and a minute later the electronic throttle control light and then the electronic stability control light. after taking my car to kendall dodge chrysler jeep ram 5 times, an independent auto shop once and another visit to the dealership where the car was purchased my car is still having issues shifting from 2nd gear to 3rd. at least that's what the auto shop told me the problem is, with the transmission. i hit the gas and the car clunkers and jerks like a manual car when i'm just lightly pressing on the gas. the car doesn't even have 52,000 miles. i've had it less than a year and half the time it's been in and out of repair shops. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. while driving 40 mph, the electronic throttle control light illuminated. the vehicle slowed to 20 mph and went into limp mode. the vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. the contact was informed that the electronic throttle control module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 94,200. udated 07/26/16*lj.....updated 08/01/16 *bf consumer stated the vehicle ceased to accelerate on a busy street. consumer was informed that every sensor in the electronic system was malfunctioning, which caused dealer to be unable to accurately diagnose the problem. repairs not covered by warranty. consumer noted chrysler issued a recall for the same exact issue on 2015 chrysler 200 model. updated 06/13/18*jb
The vehicle shut off on me after making a brief stop in traffic. and then again while actually driving. the next day it shut off on me after a stop sign. absolutely no prior warnings were given of any problems. now the ck engine light comes on intermitantly. the stops cause loss of power steering and control of vehicle. (busy city street).
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. while driving various speeds and depressing the brake pedal suddenly, the vehicle shut off without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 88,000.
Takata recall...i purchased the vehicle 2 months ago at darcars in marlow heights, md and i have already put the car in the shop 4 times for different issues. the biggest issue is after 2 weeks the engine cut off on the beltway(i 95) while heading to the store. thank the lord that i was able to get on the side lane but i was almost hit by 3 cars, also, 2 weeks after that while driving the engine became very, very loud on the road so i ended up putting it in the shop for 3 days. it is a shame that people/dealers can sell lemons. please help me with issue to get my money back from the dealer...$12,000 i can be reached at (301)613-8819. thanks!
I own a 2012 chrysler 200, the engine stops/fails about every two months while braking or while stopped. this is dangerous as it can stop anywhere and they might rear end the car or something. i have taken my car to the chrysler dealership 4 different times with the same issue, the first time they changed the pcm. after about 2 months the car's engine stopped while braking or while at a stoplight. the 2nd and 3rd time i took the car they did not find anything wrong with the car and gave it to me after a couple of days. the 4th time when i took the car they said that it was the battery and they put in a new battery. well about 2 days ago the car stopped again while at a stoplight. i have not taken the car to the dealership as they never find anything wrong with the vehicle. i am tired of them not finding what is wrong with the car. i believe that i speak for many chrysler 200 owners when i say that an investigation needs to be done for the whole chrysler group, especially to the 200, which have many complaints online and none one seems to find the solution. please investigate this for the safety of the drivers. i am so sick and tired of the mopar mechanics not finding anything. i do not know if the issue is with the pcm, computer, or engine. please investigate.
While accelerating after crossing a busy state highway the car "jerked" and the malfunction indicator light came on. ( prior to this i was idling at a stop sign and i proceeded straight across the road. ) i was in the process of immediately moving to the side of the road when the car lost all power and shut itself off. i did not initially try to restart the car but once i returned to it in a couple of hours i was able to start the engine. the indicator light remained on. i did not drive the vehicle but had it towed to a service station. the car has less than 80.000 miles.
I purchased my 2012 chrysler 200 in 2013. after driving my 200 for a couple years,i notice in the wintertime ,the right side of the windshield was very slow to defrost. fast forward to 2017 i notice the passenger side was blowing cold air,the driver side was slightly warm.after doing a little research i found that the chrysler has problems with 2012 model heater cores. chrysler needs to recalled this model year due to the fact there is not enough heat to defrost the windshield.
Submitted a complaint where i inadvertently listed my vehicle as a 2015 chrysler 200. my car is a 2012 chrysler 200. could you change my previous complaint of this same date to reflect a 2012 chrysler 200.
On september 24, 2015, in the morning at 7;30am, heading to work. heading towards the pa turnpike. my chrysler 2012, hard-top converter car engine shuts down/ stalled without any warning. this is the second time that i have experienced this problem. last year, it happend in florida as well. i take it to the dealer in florida, and they did not find a cause. in both instances, i have to turn the car off and restart it. i'm concern about this problem because it is a safety concern while driving this car both on the local roads; as well as, the highways. i mostly used the pa turnpike to get to work every mornings. the other complaint i have as well is in the changing of the gear stick (from park to drive, and vice versa). at times, it is seems to be difficult to change gear. this is an automatic transmission drive system so it should not be so hard in changing gears.
Car dies for no apparent reason and during any type driving. of course, when motor dies power steering is lost. extremely dangerous in the heavy austin traffic that i drive in. may just shut down on a major overpass with no where to go. this vehicle puts my life and families life in danger. this shut down can happen at 10 mph or at 60 mph or above. i try to bypass major highways in austin even though it may be several miles out of the way, and so far have been able to avoid any problems. it seems ridiculous to have to travel like this. my car engine is a 2.4l and i know there has been a recall on chrysler's 3.6 l engine in the 200, but i believe this engine needs to also be recalled
While driving, the car began to rapidly lose functionality while warning lights were appearing on the dashboard until it abruptly shut down while driving in traffic. the time from no warning lights to complete loss of functionality was approximately 10-15 seconds. the shut down included an abrupt loss of power steering and braking capabilities while driving on a busy street at night. i was able to quickly compensate for the loss of power steering and braking and stop the vehicle while avoiding a crash, but just barely. thankfully, i broke down next to two police officers who helped push my vehicle onto the side of the road. these officers may be able to attest to the fact that no noises or abnormal operation of the vehicle was apparent before the abrupt shut-off while driving. attempts to restart the vehicle involved no clicking or the engine attempting to turn over. the vehicle is currently being repaired, but the preliminary diagnosis is one of a faulty alternator. i will attempt to retain the faulty alternator from the repair center. i had only started the car 2-3 minutes before the incident and there were no apparent electrical issues (engine struggling to start, lights dimming, etc.) while starting the car or during operation.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. while driving 20 mph, there was an abnormal knocking noise emitting from the engine compartment of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to be diagnosed, but the details of the failure could not be provided. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 30,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. while driving approximately 10 mph, the engine stalled without warning. the contact required a jump to restart the vehicle. the engine started and the instrument panel illuminated, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to take the vehicle to a dealer. the approximate failure mileage was 56,000.
While taking off from a stop light. the 2012 chrysler 200 cut off with no warning (no stalling, sputter, hesitation of the sort). i was stopped not on the hwy but a major divided four lane hwy. (ga 54, newman, ga at the intersection of u. s. hwy i-85). after several restart attempts. the vehicle restarted with the engine malfunction light illuminated. this vehicle only had 45,466 miles on it with all maintenance up todate being completed by the chysler dealership purchased from. dealership notified, appointment scheduled for 3-26-2015. who wants to drive a vehicle with a defect that the manufacturer is well aware of. just look at the amount of complaints. *tr
The car has stalled on four different occasions while driving. it stalled three time while driving in traffic. one time it stalled on the highway. the car has turned back on after a couple of tries. a malfunction indicator light comes on after the incident and stays on for a period of time. the light simple goes out without any intervention. everything appears to be running okay and then another incident of stalling occurs. *tr
Under normal driving conditions all of a sudden the vehicle accelerates on its own. the engine stalls and loss of steering. the electronic throttle control warning light comes on and blinks, as well as the engine light and the traction control light comes on. acceleration is only at 20% of what it normally is with intermittent thrust of power followed by engine failure. this lasts for several miles then the problem seems to disappear. chrysler has no idea a out this problem with there vehicles and if u take it to an auto repair place. it says the vehicle is fine when they plug it in. i did some research on this to find out what to do and the internet is swamped by people with this car, this same year or around the same year... with the same problem. this vehicle is unsafe. logic suggests that chrysler wont voluntarily recall this vehicle for financial reasons which is understandable but at the same time i don't wanna die because i cant control this car when it has the above mentioned "episode". *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. the contact stated that while parked, the heating system was not emitting hot air. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the radiator and heater core needed to be replaced. in addition, the cooling system needed to be flushed. the vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 60,000.
I was driving along that morning into work when my battery light came on. i then proceeded to call around to find out what was going on. later that afternoon my car complete stopped working and was "freaking out" on me while i was driving. after coming to the conclusion that it was not my battery that died, it was my alternator that stopped working. now my vehicle is sitting in the front of my house not wanting to start up. *tr
Was at a stop light and after taking off the car shut completely down with no warning no engine light indicator until after this happened. i tried to start it and it cranked but didn't start all the way, i had it towed home and now it starts. i had a six month old infant in the car with me when this happened and i don't feel safe when the car can just shut down like that. i feel there is a default in the engine, we purchase this car a year ago. thank god there was no one behind me when this happened. i also have had problems with the brakes from when we purchased the car i brought the car to the dealer four times before someone figured it out. it was fine for four weeks and the noise is back, there is a noise in the brakes only when you press the brakes lightly. this problem has not been resolved. and the the warranty is up. i feel it's a defect. upon my last visit to chrysler there was a customer there who also has a 200 with the same brake problem they were trying to resolve. *tr
2012 chrysler 200 shut off while driving 45 mph down the hwy with 2 children in the car. i lost power steering and my brakes. luckily, i made it to the side of the road. it restarted once i turned the key to off first, but shut off on me a second time while idling a few minutes later. i have not driven it since. *js
My 2012 chrysler 200 s stalled on a major highway. after coming to a complete stop due to traffic the vehicle would not accelerate, the steering locked up and then it shut off. there were no malfunction lights or any other type of warning called chrysler and they said that there are no recalls for this despite there being a number of complaints reported. *tr
In march 2014 owner noted a problem with the hvac system - no heat was delivered to the passenger side air vents or heater vents in cold weather. during routine oil change mechanic noted severe discoloration of engine coolant and buildup up sludge in coolant expansion tank. took vehicle to dealer for diagnosis. dealer stated that the coolant had been contaminated with the addition of the wrong type of coolant. per chrysler star # s1207000008, dealer flushed coolant system multiple times and commented that if that didn't work they would have to replace the heater core, radiator, oil cooler, and expansion tank. when repairs were completed owner noted that the temperature output from the air and heater vents was 20 degrees lower on the passenger side than the driver side. dealer stated that repairs were complete. owner is in process of contacting chrysler to have heater core and radiator replaced. *tr
Brakes rotors bushings engine has whine and what sounds like a miss clicking noise on start up, clicking when turning ignition key withoht starting completely, and clicks when turning key off. salesman says he called chrysler and was told the 200 car is made to veer to the right to stop driver who might accidentally go to sleep from entering oncoming traffic. dealership said call warranty. had this 2012 car a with 46k that was a rental for a few days so far its engine is quite noisy. calling warranty company to make appt to have car checked out. *js
Today, while on the interstate traveling at 60mph, attempted to accelerate and car would not accelerate. could hear the engine trying to accelerate but the car kept slowing down. did not see any lights (engine) light up on the dash to indicate a problem. pulled into emergency lane, stopped and turned engine off; restarted car and it has not occurred again today. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was able to be restarted and resumed normal operation. the vehicle was taken to the dealer numerous times, but a failure code could not be located. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 35,460.
Shifted the vehicle into reverse, when the vehicle is then put into drive there is a loud bang. *tr
Entering freeway was accelerating, merged into a lane and took foot off of the accelerator and the car rpms kept climbing and speed kept increasing within 10 seconds it stops and will respond normally usually happens when there is a quick attempt to accelerate. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. the contact stated that there was an abnormal noise coming from the front end of the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.
Vehicle engine light went on. unable to accelerate. vehicle stalled and pulled over to side of road. happened 5 times in 16 mile trip. this occurred when vehicle has 18-20000 miles requiring towing of vehicle. at that time, repair involved wiring repair and replacement of sleeve. the problem has clearly recurred. this is a safety issue. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. the contact stated that after having his vehicle serviced for nhtsa campaign number: 13v282000 (air bags , electrical system) the check engine light illuminated at 50 mph. the vehicle was taken to a the dealer for inspection and they stated that the evac hose needed to be replaced due to the fact that a rodent had eaten the hose. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 33,122. updated 02/11/14*lj the consumer stated there was a problem with the fuel tank evaporate hose.
In traffic, steering wheel tightened up and all interior lights were off. tried to brake but no response, shifted into neutral restarted the car and it turned back on. seemed to mess up the shifter a little in the process, as well as almost hitting the car in front of me. probably going about 10-15 mph, and i was lucky to throw the car in neutral and restart otherwise i would of floated into an accident. *tr
As i was driving my car it just stop running, there was no warning lights or nothing came on the car just stop. then it would not start back up until the next day when it was at the dealership. they check the car out and they could not find anything wrong with the car. this is not the first time this happen and they still can not find out why the car is stopping. then the lights came on the dash board and i took the car back to the dealer ship and they still could not figure out why they came on because the computer did not report that any lights came on. then they keep my car over the weekend and they said the car ran fine even though they know the car did stop but since the computer couldn't tell them that there was something wrong with the car there is nothing that they can do. this is a very unsafe car..i wish i know this before i brought this car... *tr
2012 chrysler 200. when slowing then accelerating in turn about, the 200 will often stall for a second or two, then proceed. seems to especially happen when attempting to increase speed quickly to enter traffic. the engine will stall and become unresponsive for a second or two before responding again. this has been unsettling a couple of times. this seems to occur when turning and accelerating. i do not have any issues when accelerating in a straight line. the second speed issue is that the 200 is slow to stop revving when accelerating. on several occasions upon acceleration, when i lifted my foot off of the accelerator, the engine kept revving for a couple of seconds and the car kept speeding up. this has not caused any safety issues. *tr
The chrysler 200 vehicle that i purchased in april 2012 was brought in again on 7/1/13 for service due to front end clanging metal noises which occur while turning, backing up, slowing and stopping. this undiagnosed noise began following several engine stalling episodes, two of which required towing (since i was unable to restart the vehicle to drive in for service). the engine stalling episodes occurred while driving at 55 mph and as stated, twice resulted in towing and service. service on the engine stalling problem occurred in april and again in may 2013. it is unclear why the remedy for the engine stalling was not followed per the nhtsa recall id # 11v487000 (engine and engine cooling) technical service bulletin/chrysler manufacturer remedy- since that recall had already been published. in addition to this safety issue, the front end metal clanging may be the result of towing due to the engine defect and/or a result of another vehicle defect (recall #11v315000 - steering column). this is a vehicle that has multiple problems and poses a serious safety issue due to various problems. it needs to be off the road. *tr
I bought this car use with 27,000 mile on it. i have only had the car for 45 days or so. my car is jumping forward when i come to a stop. at first the lurching was very faint now at 31,000 miles the lurching is more pronounced. i took the car to the dealership prior to the warranty ending and they acted like they where unaware of the issue/or didn't understand the issue. any way i am beginning to feel unsafe since it is happening more. the car lurched forward during a sudden stop one time, not good. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. the contact stated that while making a left turn at an unkown speed, the engine stalled and the steering wheel seized. the vehicle was taken to the dealer but the failure could not be determined. the failure mileage was 5,887 and the current mileage was 8,495.
First time car wouldn't start. dealership charged battery and did software update. second time car wouldn't start they replaced battery. third time car wouldn't start battery completely drained they said it was a glove box switch. fourth time car wouldn't start they said it was the usb cable keeping the radio powered on all the time. same chrysler dealership worked on it all four times. brand new car bought august of 2012. all four times have been in less than two months! this car is not safe. chrysler is not doing the right thing by their customers! any help would be appreciated. in the usa we should not have to put up with being ripped off like this. *tr
Drove approximately 0.5 miles when the engine started to kick back, drove another 0.5 miles and as i was parking the car the steering wheel locked up. put the car into park and turned off the engine. the car would no longer start as the engine would rev right up until the engine should flip over but the car just shuts down at that point. waiting for a tow at this point to the nearest dealership. *tr
2.4 liter 2011 chrysler 200. when slowing then accelerating in left turn lanes and turn abouts, the 200 will often stall for a second or two, then proceed. seems to especially happen when attempting to increase speed quickly to enter traffic. the engine will stall and become unresponsive for a second or two before responding again. the entire process is that i brake and slow for the turn or to enter a round about, when there is an opening, i accelerate, the 200 will speed up as expected, then the engine will suddenly stall and become unresponsive for 1-2 seconds, then resume as normal. this has been unsettling a couple of times. this seems to occur when turning and accelerating. i do not have any issues when accelerating in a straight line. the second speed issue is that the 200 is slow to stop revving when accelerating. on several occasions upon acceleration, when i lifted my foot off of the accelerator, the engine kept revving for a couple of seconds and the car kept speeding up. this has not caused any safety issues. it only happens when i accelerate quickly. when driving normal, this issue does not occur. *tr
Driving vehicle to investigate symptoms and during regular casual driving the car stalled, hydraulic brakes went and steering locked while slowing through a school zone. i'm a certified tech with h-d, kawasaki, bmw, and have never had a service manager deny a request that involved serious systems like this until today. that is why i'm filing this complaint on your site, i was told by the s.m. that they couldn't get my 29 day old 200 in before next week monday! this is not a safe car, anyone reading this please do not buy this car!!!! mdm. *tr
I was driving my new chrysler 200 3.6l approximately 25-30 mph pressed the gas pedal and had no response. engine was dead, the steering locked-up causing the vehicle to pull right running off the road. fortunately, my two children and myself were not harmed. i am extremely disappointed/angry that my children were put into this situation. i believe this is a an unsafe vehicle and investigation should take place. *tr
Takata recall when it is cold the defrost won't work and the passenger side of the car is extremely cold.
The first time this incident occurred i was preparing to make a left turn off of a busy road. i had just purchased the car and not really thinking something was wrong with my vehicle when the engine stalled. this incident has occurred very often since september of 2012. i have taken my vehicle to the dealership three times for the car stalling and cutting off during low speeds. i'm suppose to take it back again tomorrow but i'm very disappointed to know by reading other complaints the problem will not be fixed. it's very sad someone or multiple people have to die before anything can be done about these cars. i have four kids and i am terrified for them to ride in the car with me. these cars are definitely not safe to be on the highway! someone please offer some help!!! *tr
On april 26, 2012, i purchased a brand new 2012 chrysler from an official chrysler corporation dealership. since then this car has been put in the shop approximately 30 times for from medium to major problems. the 1st major problem was 9/26/212 which was diagnosed as gear-rack and pinon. it has had two lifters(relative to the motor) because of loud tapping. three heater cords; a couple of re-calls;transmissions leaks; internal engine damages; headlamps needed immediate replacements; washer fluid tank leaked and needed immediate replacement; the car horn failed to blow on demand; brakes needed immediate replacements; camshaft, rockers had to be replaced twice; heater cord experienced internal failure and had to be replaced; brake pads; brake light (dashboard) has been beeping on since 2013 and is still doing the same thing today; engine air filter had to be replaced; and a host of other vehicle problems that should not be happening on a brand spanking new 2012 vehicle!! please assist and advise.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. the contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph in a parking lot, the engine stalled. the contact was unaware whether a warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel when the failure occurred. the engine restarted and resumed as normal. the vehicle was not repaired. there was an open investigation under nhtsa action number pe12016 (engine), which pertained to the 2011 model year vehicles equipped with 3.6l engine. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 1,150.
My car stalled on me about 3 times in august. twice while driving at a low speed and once while parked. i took it chrysler and they said they didn't find anything. it happened again in september so i brought the vehicle back to chrystal and was once again told they could find nothing. after that while driving on the highway at about 40mph the car started to lose power and traction control, emergency brake and abs light lit up and the speedometer just waved back n forth. it felt like it was stalling and luckily i was able to pull over. i took it back to chrysler and told them its very dangerous and i can't drive the car like that. they then called me saying they found a loose battery terminal and to see if that helped. no it didn't. while driving on a highway again the car started to lose power and then stopped but did not stall. when i stepped on the gas it mad a noise but did not move. i had to shut it off and restart it. i will going back to chrysler for the fourth time to see if they will fix this dangerous problem. *tr
This car was bought for advertised miles per gallon (mpg) was 31mpg, but on the highway it is only getting about 15mpg. this car is either defective or chrysler has embarked on major false advertising or fraud campaign in which millions of people bought this car thinking they would get 31mpg, but are paying twice as much in gas instead of saving money. if you think you are getting 31mpg on highway, but only get 15mpg, that means you run out of gas on the highway and an accident can occur either while the car is slowing down in the lane, or after it is pushed into shoulder, which is still dangerous. there are hundreds of reviews on the internet with same problem - not getting gas mileage. please force chrysler to take back these cars because it is either false advertising and consumer fraud for advertising 31mpg, or defective for failing to be efficient with gas mileage since they are not getting the performance these cars were supposedly manufactured & designed for. there are also unknown problems with transmission and engine. i'm taking car to dealership today to investigate/service, but i was told by the sales manager, they would not take the car back and give me a new car. it has all these problems, costing me money and possible injury due to the prospect of running out of gas so frequently! the gas tank size is 16.9 gallons, so at 31mpg, i should get close to 523 miles, but we only get about 250! we fill up gas tank every week, after only driving 36 miles roundtrip to/from work, mostly on highway. i believe we are being defrauded by being sold defective cars that do not perform as advertised, and which can cause injury as a result. i shouldnt be stuck with this car, paying excessive gas prices due to constantly refilling a gas tank, because this car burns up all the gas so fast! is it a defect or consumer fraud? i want this car recalled, and i want my money back! *tr
Pulled off interstate after driving for 2 hrs. into parking lot. started to pull into parking space and everything thing locked up. no steering, no breaks, everything died except lights on dash. car was driving fine with no indication of problem. i am told that my car does not fit into the recall for engine failure for this model. concern with safety as if i had been on interstate going 70mph this would have caused a bad accident. *tr
Car is a 2012 model, purchased three days ago with only 10 miles on it. today it stalled as it was idling at red light. it stalled as i was making a right hand turn. it stalled as i was turning left into my garage to park. i called my salesman, he claims he knows nothing about it and referred me to the manager. he also claims he has never heard of why this would happen. yet i find out from a friend to search the internet. i do a search and see many articles from today and over the weekend on this. so, how does a dealer not know about this before selling me the car? concerned about my kids being in the car with me. *tr
