Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. while driving 35 mph the steering wheel ceased and the vehicle stalled. the contact was able to restart the vehicle after five minutes. while driving and making a left turn the vehicle stalled again. while attempting to start vehicle there was abnormal ticking noise detected. the abs and traction control warning lights were illuminated. additionally, the speedometer was inoperable. the local dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was contacted but no further assistance was provided. the failure mileage was 114,000.

My chrysler 200 was purchased about two months ago since i purchased it from florida and i reside in alabama i was told by the local dealership in mobile that they could not diagnose or repair it because they have no history. my car is randomly stalling and loosing all power to engine when attempting to stop or slow down there is no codes on dashboard. pcm was replaced still same issue. it is very likely this will cause an accident especially because there is no warning. it cut off tonight on my way home from work while i was driving at 35mph. this is dangerous

While driving my vehicle back the office from my lunch break, i made a right hand turn onto the main road and began to accelerate the vehicle with more gas. at about 35mph the car engine completely shut off and i had to coast to the side of the road with no power steering. i had to wait approximately 20 mins until my car would restart again. i was able to get back on the road until after another few hundred yards of driving the car stalled again completely. i was then forced to call a tow truck to have it taken to an auto shop.

Sudden stall on the highway, completely died on the slop of the beginning of the bridge on april 4,2019 and april 11, 2019

To start off the abs and traction control will not stop turning off and on even after replacing everything . almost all the time when it rains they will kick in the e brake and start grinding . no matter how many times i change the brakes and rotors and master control they never stop squeaking . lastly almost all the electrical problems started after the alternator failed and i had to replace it . my speedometer just died on me today and i have no clue how that happened .

The vehicle stalls out - power is shut-off without any notice. the vehicle becomes tdisable while trying to drive. this occurs three times this year. the only way to get the vehicle operating again it to put in park and restart the car. the steering while locks up as well. i have to take the highway to work everyday. most of the instances when this happens i'm not driving on the highway. the stalling of the car occurs when you drive about 2-3 miles. the car bears left and starts to stalled out. it lost power. every time this problem occurred it happens while the car is in motion.

My car received a software update for the pcm on 3/2/2017. on 03/6/2017 my car shut off completely in the middle of driving down the interstate.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. while making a turn, the contact heard an abnormal grinding sound coming from the power steering without warning. the contact stated that the failure recurred several other times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 29,000. ...updated 05/17/17 *bf the consumer stated the vehicle was repaired by the dealer on 3/31/2017 at the owner's expense. the consumer believed at 32,256 miles, the failure was premature. updated 09/06/2017*js

Steering wheel makes a popping squeaky noise with only 29000 miles, is something loose ?

Our airbag lights are on. we got notified by the dealership of the recall. but this matter regarding the wheel bearings is a serious matter. i've repaired my car 5 times all around the car. that's not normal. all of these vehicles have a similar issue in the rear end where when i'm driving and hit a bump, the rear end shifts left or right.

Submitted a complaint where i inadvertently listed my vehicle as a 2015 chrysler 200. my car is a 2012 chrysler 200. could you change my previous complaint of this same date to reflect a 2012 chrysler 200.

Car dies for no apparent reason and during any type driving. of course, when motor dies power steering is lost. extremely dangerous in the heavy austin traffic that i drive in. may just shut down on a major overpass with no where to go. this vehicle puts my life and families life in danger. this shut down can happen at 10 mph or at 60 mph or above. i try to bypass major highways in austin even though it may be several miles out of the way, and so far have been able to avoid any problems. it seems ridiculous to have to travel like this. my car engine is a 2.4l and i know there has been a recall on chrysler's 3.6 l engine in the 200, but i believe this engine needs to also be recalled

While driving, the car began to rapidly lose functionality while warning lights were appearing on the dashboard until it abruptly shut down while driving in traffic. the time from no warning lights to complete loss of functionality was approximately 10-15 seconds. the shut down included an abrupt loss of power steering and braking capabilities while driving on a busy street at night. i was able to quickly compensate for the loss of power steering and braking and stop the vehicle while avoiding a crash, but just barely. thankfully, i broke down next to two police officers who helped push my vehicle onto the side of the road. these officers may be able to attest to the fact that no noises or abnormal operation of the vehicle was apparent before the abrupt shut-off while driving. attempts to restart the vehicle involved no clicking or the engine attempting to turn over. the vehicle is currently being repaired, but the preliminary diagnosis is one of a faulty alternator. i will attempt to retain the faulty alternator from the repair center. i had only started the car 2-3 minutes before the incident and there were no apparent electrical issues (engine struggling to start, lights dimming, etc.) while starting the car or during operation.

Van horn chrysler and dodge in plymouth wi. sold me a vehicle that was in a major front end accident. when they sold me the air the airbag was not attached. the steering was pulling to the right. the suspension was severely damage, it was so severe that when i took the car to chrysler, i spend money there to get the problems repaired. because van horn wouldn't pay for the repairs. after chrysler couldn't make the repairs, because the car had been in a major accident from the previous owner. chrysler referred me to the body shop, where i was out of pocket for another additional repair. i also forward this information to chrysler customer assistant 1-888-992-1997. my case number there is [xxx].they (chrysler customer assistant) said the car should have never been sold. they informed [xxx] manger to get in touch with me to make a settle. which he hasn't as to 10/14/205. tom boweo was the person that i spoke with at milosch's palace collision center, lake orion mi. (248)276-6653. the car is registered to [xxx]. my email address is [xxx]. my phone number is [xxx]. my cell number is [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Power steering or steering assist does not always work

Clunking popping in frontend you can feel it in steering wheel. car was under warranty when this started dealership couldn't duplicate the problem it continues to get louder and many people with this car have this same problem.

After driving for 15 or 20 minutes or more, i can hear and feel in the steering wheel a clunking noise/sound under the hood. there is no pattern to it. it happens either on a straight line or by turning. the banging rate won't increase/decrease if i speed up/down. if i turn on the ac before the clunking noise/sound starts, it will commence to make the noise/sound before the 15 or 20 minutes of driving. it is driving me crazy (no pun intended). it sounds like something is completely loose and is going to fall at any moment. my safety and those riding with me are not secured in this car. the internet is full of people with this same problem for this particular car and there is not one solid solution for it. could anyone help us and make chrysler get more serious with this problem/solution? regards. *tr

The steering column makes loud "popping" noises at low speeds and when turning the vehicle. it sounds like the steering column is going to snap. in addition, i had to have all of my lifters replaced in the engine due to a loud ticking noise coming from under the hood. lastly, the leather material is coming off of all of the doors in the vehicle, and the light for the emergency brake stays on even when the brake is not engaged. i despise driving the car and will never buy another chrysler.

The steering wheel vibrates and there is a clunking noise made that sounds like it is coming from the steering wheel column when driving. it occurs at any speed. it feels like the steering column is loose to a point. *tr

2012 chrysler 200 shut off while driving 45 mph down the hwy with 2 children in the car. i lost power steering and my brakes. luckily, i made it to the side of the road. it restarted once i turned the key to off first, but shut off on me a second time while idling a few minutes later. i have not driven it since. *js

After putting on 4 new tires and new front brakes, we noticed an issue with the steering column clunking, and feeling very loose. after three trips to the service counter at a chrysler dealership, (you would think that they would know what the problem was), i have figured out the issue thanks to youtube. apparently, i there are many others having the same issue. and, i called chrysler directly, and the girl that i spoke with stated that the part had been recalled on other chrysler products, but not on my car. this part needs to be recalled. you feel like you are driving down the road, and the car is falling a part. you feel like parts could fly off at any time. very disappointing! and, just out of warranty. please view this website to understand the issue. it explains it in depth. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=chrysler+200+clunking+problem. *tr

My 2012 chrysler 200 s stalled on a major highway. after coming to a complete stop due to traffic the vehicle would not accelerate, the steering locked up and then it shut off. there were no malfunction lights or any other type of warning called chrysler and they said that there are no recalls for this despite there being a number of complaints reported. *tr

A clicking noise in steering wheel while driving no matter how fast you are going. also, a knocking noise when driving over bumps. sometimes, the car does not pick up speed for a while when driving up a hill. *tr

This is frustrating. i've been to two dealerships complaining about the rattling steering column. both dealerships state that they could not find the problem. went to brakemasters for an oil change and the mechanic said the rattling is coming from the steering column. both times at the dealerships the vehicle was still under warranty. i'm over the 3 year mark now and no warranty. what can be done? *tr

After driving for about 15 min. you can start hearing a clunking noise coming from the left side, and you can feel it in the steering wheel. don't know if its steering or suspension, but i get eerie feeling the car may lock up. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. the contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph in rainy weather, the rear end of the vehicle began to skid. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where both rear tires were replaced. the failure recurred whenever the vehicle was driven on wet road surfaces at any given speed. the vehicle was also taken to an authorized dealer where a rear end wheel alignment was performed and the tow was replaced. the failure persisted and the vehicle was not further repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the defect. the approximate failure mileage was 24,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. the contact stated that while driving 35 mph in the snow, the vehicle would sway to the left and right. the contact stated that he decelerated and the swaying stopped. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 60,000... updated 03/24/14 *bf

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. the contact stated that while parked, she noticed an abnormal grinding sound. the contact inspected the engine compartment and noticed that the power steering fluid was low. the contact added power steering fluid however, the following day the contact noticed the power steering fluid was low once again. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 38,100.

In traffic, steering wheel tightened up and all interior lights were off. tried to brake but no response, shifted into neutral restarted the car and it turned back on. seemed to mess up the shifter a little in the process, as well as almost hitting the car in front of me. probably going about 10-15 mph, and i was lucky to throw the car in neutral and restart otherwise i would of floated into an accident. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. the contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that there was no power steering fluid in the vehicle. the vehicle was replenished with power steering fluid but the failure recurred. the also contact stated that the power steering hose exploded and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 6,047. the consumer stated there were numerous problems with the vehicle, such as a coolant leak, oil leak, air condition, the cd player did not work, the power steering hose burst, the wire harness, the transmission was replaced, the engine was noisy and the seat belt on the passenger side was not properly installed. the vehicle cut off several times. updated 10/31/13

This chrysler 2012 200 started to have brake squealing issues at about 7,000 miles i went to dealership and they told me that it was probably just being broke in since i purchased this car at 200 miles on it. the problem continued and no one at the dealership would address this problem. i then told them they had to do something about it and they then told me that there was not a fix for this that chrysler could not fix this problem. and that they the dealership dennis dillon and chrysler had no idea what to do. i continued to drive my car and in september of 2013 my car's check engine light came on and i took into the dealer dennis dillon and was advised that my cylander head was gone and would need repaired. i was told to go ahead and dive my car while the parts came in. my car was fixed and picked up from dealer then 1 day later my car overheated on interstate and broke down was then told a clamp came off and was then fixed. since this issue my car has not driven the same. it is sluggish . i asked the dealer about the lemon law and was told to contact chrysler . i did so and was told by chrysler that there is nothing anyone can do. my brakes still sqeal very loudly and chrylser told me that its becasue they replaced the brake pads and no longer have asbestos' in them. i then advised them that i have driven other models and makes and did not have that problem. they refused to be of any assistance. my steering is also an issue in which the dealership has said that it needed an alignment but since the car was only a couple hundred miles on it. it has pulled severly to the left. this is not acceptable and this car needs to fall under the lemon law and be dealt with. *tr

Awful popping noise to front end when driving. worsens over time . had to shop 4 times. they now admit to a problem with tie rods at manufacture. dealership is offering to fix with a $100 co-pay since it is now out of warranty mileage. i am working with chrysler to get the rest covered since it is an unresolved warranty issue. *tr

It has been increasingly difficult to see at night when driving my chrysler 200 2012 in low lit areas due to the headlight beams. less light? aimed low? i have to drive far slower than posted around bends at night. i don't recall this issue when i bought the car brand new. i have had it one year and have just over 10,000 miles. i don't usually have to drive at night other than my well lit neighborhood ,so this could have easily gone unnoticed. either way, this terrifies me. the other issue i have is a jerk when shifting to reverse or drive. it is a loud clunk and i feel the vibration. i will not drive at night in low light areas until resolved. i also feel the car pulls to the right when driving. i will contact the dealer soon, until then i just don't feel safe driving while on dark roads. *tr

The chrysler 200 vehicle that i purchased in april 2012 was brought in again on 7/1/13 for service due to front end clanging metal noises which occur while turning, backing up, slowing and stopping. this undiagnosed noise began following several engine stalling episodes, two of which required towing (since i was unable to restart the vehicle to drive in for service). the engine stalling episodes occurred while driving at 55 mph and as stated, twice resulted in towing and service. service on the engine stalling problem occurred in april and again in may 2013. it is unclear why the remedy for the engine stalling was not followed per the nhtsa recall id # 11v487000 (engine and engine cooling) technical service bulletin/chrysler manufacturer remedy- since that recall had already been published. in addition to this safety issue, the front end metal clanging may be the result of towing due to the engine defect and/or a result of another vehicle defect (recall #11v315000 - steering column). this is a vehicle that has multiple problems and poses a serious safety issue due to various problems. it needs to be off the road. *tr

Purchased this vehicle new off the lot april 2012.this issue i currently have became an issue for me in feb 2014 with the winter weather i entered freeway tried to gain speed once speedometer hit 50ish noticed the car began to brake loose and sway side to side really quick and scary, immediately slowed down sensation went away could not drive above 40mph, while all traffic around me on the freeway were traveling at a much greater speeds i figured it was just by chance i hit an ice patch.i attempted to speed up and once hit 45mph the side to side sway once again was present exited the freeway and do not travel above 40 in any wet, snow, icy weather but regardless of speed if i hit anything slick i sway, the low speeds just help me maintain control of the car.my husband thought i must just need a winter tire,(there are a set of 4 goodyear eagles on it presently) until he drove it and determined there was definitely a serious issue jacked it up to reveal that it was the inner tie rods completely wiped out contributing to the sway.contacted the dealership to resolve it(mind you the mileage was now at 37050) was told they would do an inspection for $85 and would call chrysler to see if they would honor a repair since it is out of warranty however no guarantee that the repairs would be covered non the less a front end alignment.i could not leave my car for 3 days for diagnosis nor afford 85$ that would not even go towards the repair.i called chrysler only to be told they can not guarantee anything nor would chrysler consider anything until i have an inspection done that there are no discounts no courtesy inspection to be had.bought a new car to avoid issues such as these. *tr

Car started kicking back, had to accelerate to stop the kicking. then while parking the steering wheel locked up and engine died. kept starting and it kept stalling. *tr

Drove approximately 0.5 miles when the engine started to kick back, drove another 0.5 miles and as i was parking the car the steering wheel locked up. put the car into park and turned off the engine. the car would no longer start as the engine would rev right up until the engine should flip over but the car just shuts down at that point. waiting for a tow at this point to the nearest dealership. *tr

Driving vehicle to investigate symptoms and during regular casual driving the car stalled, hydraulic brakes went and steering locked while slowing through a school zone. i'm a certified tech with h-d, kawasaki, bmw, and have never had a service manager deny a request that involved serious systems like this until today. that is why i'm filing this complaint on your site, i was told by the s.m. that they couldn't get my 29 day old 200 in before next week monday! this is not a safe car, anyone reading this please do not buy this car!!!! mdm. *tr

I was driving my new chrysler 200 3.6l approximately 25-30 mph pressed the gas pedal and had no response. engine was dead, the steering locked-up causing the vehicle to pull right running off the road. fortunately, my two children and myself were not harmed. i am extremely disappointed/angry that my children were put into this situation. i believe this is a an unsafe vehicle and investigation should take place. *tr

While returning to airport for return trip home, was in the 2012 chrysler 200 rental car. slowed down to go into a curve and when came out of curve it was like the vehicle was sucked off the road to the right. had no choice---that is where the car was going...my passenger and i were airlifted to hospital. i suffered from 3 back fractures, 3 rib fractures, fractured sternum, contusions to the lungs and 26 stitches in the forehead. was in hospital for a week and out of work for about 2 months. passenger had 2 back fractures, rib fractures also. i have asked avis/budget to get this car out of their fleet before someone gets killed. chrysler needs to recall this car. they had steering recalls on the 2011 model. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. the contact stated that when driving between 16-22 mph, the vehicle would hesitate. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the vehicle was changing gears as it was designed. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact also stated that the steering wheel seized without warning. the manufacturer was notified and stated that there were no recalls on the vehicle. the failure mileage was 2,000. the consumer stated the very day they picked the vehicle up, it stalled in the entrance way. the dealer claimed, the vehicle ran out of gas. as her son drove the vehicle home, he noticed when coasting at low speeds, the vehicle would kick back. the mechanic stated the jerk/kick was from the engine shifting gears. the kicking would go away, when the accelerator pedal was pressed. when her son turned the steering wheel to the right and then straightened it out, by turning the wheel to the left, the steering wheel locked up. he put the vehicle in park and shut off the engine. he tried to re-start the vehicle several times, but the engine would rev up tight until it was about to start, but would immediately shut off. the vehicle was towed to the dealer, where they found a code, but it had nothing to with the problem, that was being experienced. updated 01/16/13

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chrysler 200. the contact stated that when the vehicle accelerated and pressure was released from the steering wheel, the vehicle veered sharply to the right. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis but the contact was told that was how the vehicle was designed. the manufacturer was notified but offered no assistance. the failure mileage was 1,700 and the current mileage was 3,000. updated 09/21/12*lj updated 09/24/2012 *js

I rented this vehicle from enterprise in henderson nc. while traveling to nashville, tn., i noticed that the car often lost handling capacity when coming off small bridges as there is often a small drop off. this happened at least 7 times as i decided to slow down to 55 (limit is 65) whenever crossing them. this is quite a surprise and i had this experience only once before and it was on a very small vehicle some 10 years ago. it was noticeable to the point that my passenger felt it as well and i would have had a wreck had i snatched the wheel during these scenarios. to be more clear, after crossing the small bridges...maybe 20 yards long on average, there is a drop off to the normal highway and the front end does not transition down, it actually takes on air before doing so and that is where the loss of control comes in. i would hope this can be tested and corrected before an owner loses his/her life. *tr

When slowing down almost to a stop, the vehicle downshifts hard. it cause a shutter or jerk and you can feel even in the brakes. feels awful and cannot be normal. also, when accelerating, the vehicle pulls hard to the right. *tr
