Vehicle has 140,000 miles on it and my air bag light as well as "service air bag" showing up in my indicator is on constant. my mechanic is stating this falls under an existing recall #15536, but yet my vin is not part of that specific recall so the dealership i purchased my vehicle wants to charge me to repair this. my mechanic states the connector under the driver's seat is the issue. this light initially started as just flashing on occasion, now it is on solid, never goes off. i have never had an accident in my vehicle. no reason as to why this would all of a sudden become an issue.

Air bag warning light for passenger air bag came on. we received a recall notice about this issue and took the vehicle in to the dealer. they completed the required repair for under the recall but that did not correct the problem. dealer advised of additional fees to diagnose the issue. we contacted gm and received authorization for the dealer to conduct a diagnosis of the problem. the result concluded the "sdm" had failed. the dealer could not tell us if the recalled connector could have caused the failure. we were required top pay $300 to fix this safety issue that we feel should have been covered under the recall. essentially, to make the vehicle safe to operate and correct a problem identified by recall it cost us $300. *tr

I was driving on the interstate at approximately 55-60 mph and merged right to take an off ramp to a side street when both side air bag curtains deployed without incident. there were four people in the vehicle at the time of incident and my wife suffered serious chest bruising from the seatbelt locking up. the seatbelt locking mechanism front passenger and front driver side will not retract. at the time of incident i was clearly the only thing on the road with no obstructions. this complaint should be taken very seriously and checked into by general motors for the safety of myself and others. *tr
