We have classified the 26 complaints from 2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Head lamps go off at night while driving won't come back on , stabilitrack shuts off an warning bells go off for no reason. now out of the blue transmission will not work. only has 1st and 2nd, while driving on any road in town or on. highway.
There is a defect with the vehicles electronic control module. this is not something that the consumers are causing, this defect causes the vehicle to shut off at random times, and will not start back up for several minutes. this is extremely dangerous. i have searched hundreds of forums on a fix for this only to find hundreds of thousand of people that are dealing with the same thing. chevy needs to step up and take responsibility for this! i am sure there have been lives lost because of the vehicles shutting off on busy highways, and streets. when this happens you are a sitting duck, and have to wait till the vehicle decides it wants to start back up. this happens while driving on the highway, or city roads. at random intervals. it is extremely dangerous, and i am amazed that there has not been a recall for this. i have seen in chevy online forums that this affects several years of the trailblazers, and envoys too.

Vehicle shut off while driving on highway lost power almost got into accident and was blocking trafficc. other vehicles like mine have the same problem.
My wife was driving our 2006 chevy trailblazer, and without any notice while in drive it stop accelerating. all the gears were affected (d,r,1,2,3 ) we turned off the vehicle, turned it back on and the vehicle drove for a few miles and then again without notice did the same thing.
The front drive axle that goes through the oil pan housing became off balanced, and the vibrations caused sequential breakdowns through all of the connecting parts during normal use, such as the oil pan axle seals, front differential seals, front differential internal gears, cv joints, wheel seals, and the corresponding front axle systems. when the wheel seal vibrated loose, the gear lube sprayed over the engine block, and caught on fire. the vehicle was towed to the shop. the mechanic predicts that the offending off-balanced axle may lock up while driving if not replaced. note: the date listed is the date of the fire in the engine compartment, but there are many ongoing issues with all of the parts listed, especially the internal disintegration of the front differential.
Driving along at 30 mph and stepped on gas to speed up to 45 mph which was the new speed limit, when tried to accelerate i had nothing. it was like the transmission was in neutral. i have no r/d/d3/d2/d1, not even in 4wd. the transmission is gone. i was coming home from a 40 mile trip, there was no warning of any problems at all. it ran fine the whole trip and the nothing. thx
4wd switch no longer lit up to show what it was in (4 options: 2wd, auto, 4h, 4l). control module changed and now stability control is permanently lit up as well as original problem exists. other than to continue to change part after part after part and sink thousands of dollars into an undiagnosible problem there doesn't seem to be an answer. meantime the vehicle is unsafe to drive. *tr
4wd disengages and becomes 2wd only 4wd will not reengage. *tr
Hard shifting from 1st to 2nd gear all the time! *tr
Transmission / sun shield failure: leaving work, i pulled out of the parking lot onto a major road. i accelerated to approximately 35-40 mph and heard a tremendous loud noise underneath my car and the car started to decelerate on it's own. i immediately thought i ran over something made of steel that was in the roadway, but there was nothing there. i was barely able to pull off the road because, although the car was running, the car would not move forward. i called a mechanic friend who advised me that 2 of the 4 gears are working. it is a transmission problem. after researching online i see that there is a sun shield / sun shell problem with these trailblazers (and envoys, etc) and i really think this issue should be investigated for a recall. if i had been on a major highway, i am afraid of what would have happened to me. *tr
Changing out the air filter as part of routine self check and maintenance. decided to check the oil and other fluids at the same time. the oil reservoir is bone dry. my oil is changed at regular intervals, at the same shop, since i've owned it. the oil light/sensor didn't come on. the onstar report doesn't show any low oil level. maybe this is a built in feature from chevrolet - the "throw a rod in the engine induction system"!!! vehicle is always serviced at the dealer, but they usually don't find anything worth fixing until you bill can come out to at least $1000. the tv commercials they run about chevy trucks are "like a rock" are very true. this trailblazer is as useless as a rock. *tr
This suv is nothing short of a rolling hazard. the "check engine" light is on and off, again, for the past 6 days. tried to start it up this morning and the engine light was on. as soon as i was about to back out of the driveway, the vehicle started to idle in a manner that caused the rpms to crank way up and then plunge until almost shutting the engine down with violent shaking and loud roaring noise. yesterday, the stabilitrak warnings (2) came on the dashboard - i was only going 3 mph exiting a parking lot. there was no inclement weather and the road was bone dry. i haven't been able to pick up power and it seems like the more i press on the gas pedal, the slower i go. i live in houston and the traffic conditions really don't allow for a "sudden stop" or loss of power on a freeway where people are traveling at an average speed of 70 mph. i have had 4 other instances of this "check engine" light in 3 yrs. the dealer isn't much help and gm chevy is no help at all!!!! the tv commercials they run about chevy trucks are "like a rock" are very true. this trailblazer is as useless as a rock. *tr
Tl- the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated while driving 15 mph, the vehicle stalled without any warning. the contact was able restart the vehicle which resumed normal function. the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times. the technician stated that the exhaust cam shaft solenoid, cam shaft sensor, ignition switch needed to be replaced and the computer needed to be reprogrammed. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 91,000. the current mileage was 95,000. rk updated 04/15/14 ma *tr
My wife was coming home from work. she started her car and backed up, went to shift to drive and something broke stranding he in a empty parking lot on a saturday. she was in a traffic lane and blocking the handicap parking space. i have owned cars for many years and never had such a thing happen. why did you make an all steel cable and mountings and then put a tiny plastic end on it that brakes all the time. the parts house and the service shops all said it happens all the time and you must buy a replacement from the dealer. they know it is a problem as they must stock the cable assemblies that cost a lot to change. please redesign them and change the plastic end to a stainless steel end and retrofit all cars, suv's and trucks that use this part. *tr
My son and i were out today shopping locally only about 1 mile from our home. the car was fine and everything was great until all of a sudden, the acceleration on the car started to decline even though i had my foot on the gas the car just seemed to do nothing. i was in the middle lane and traffic was vicious, i turned on my hazards and attempted to try and push on the gas. i car came to a stop but the engine was still running, it felt like i was in neutral but i was clearly in drive. i contacted onstar they called the police to make sure we did not get in an accident, as i stated earlier, we were in traffic. i received a push to a safe side of the street and tried to restart the car over and over again, the car started up fine, it just would not go anywhere, no movement. i had to get it towed to my home because it was 110 degrees and i had my youngest child with me. we waited 2 hours for the tow truck, i was dehydrated and faint by the time we made it home. my husband contacted the dealership as we just purchased the car in february of 2013 from ezcarsandcredit in riverside ca, they said don't worry about it, they will have the manager call us back to take care of the problem, that was 4 hours ago and still no call. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that he noticed fluid leaking from the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis. after diagnosis, he was informed that the transmission coolant lines had become corroded and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired for the transmission coolant lines. the manufacturer was contacted and they advised that there were no recalls for his vehicle. the failure and current mileages were approximately 120,000.
Transmission cooler lines corroded through and started leaking. *tr
Without warning car would not accelerate when applying pressure to gas pedal, the motor would just rev up. i had to shift automatic transmission into lower gear to get it to go. i was able to drive to dealership by manually shifting transmission. service department inform me that transmission was shot and would need to be replaced for about $3,000.00 dollars. my 2006 chevy trailblazer has always been service at the same dealership and only has 28,783 miles on the odometer; i did not think that the transmission would fail with such low mileage. gm did say that they would cover the parts but i would be responsible to pay for labor. i realized that chevy did not offer 100,000 mile power train warranties on trailblazers until 2007 but i believe that the transmission was defective from the start and chevy should be responsible to cover replacement cost. *tr
The rpm gauge stopped working today. the car hesitated and is acting not right. i have read of numerous people having the exact same issue. gm needs to do a full recall on this issue. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated while driving 10 mph, he depressed the accelerator pedal to increase speed but the vehicle would not change gears. the contact then stopped the vehicle, shifted the gears until the vehicle moved in reverse. the contact placed the vehicle back in drive gear and the vehicle functioned normally. the vehicle was never repaired nor was the failure diagnosed. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 33,000. the current mileage was 51,490.
this has happened to me 4 times in the last year and a half first time at a red light it turned green i was the only car at the light when i hit the gas it felt like someone rear ended me look no one behind me then the rear brakes were locked up i drove it 1/4 of a mile and they unlocked them selves i drove to my dealer told them he looked it up said there was a service bulletin about that took my blazer in for a oil change an i supposed looked at the brakes then about 6 months later the same thing and it felt like some one rear ended me again but no one there behind me..then about a month ago in july the same thing at a red lite and i had 3 senior citizens in the blazer when they all thought some one ran into the rear of me but no one was behind me the rear brakes only stayed locked up maybe 300 yards and then released ..then today at a stop sign 8-16-2012 same thing then all kind of noise going to the doctors office about 1/4 of a mile away got into the parking lot an the drive shaft fell out at the front of the trans here both bars trailing arms at the rear axle broke had to have it towed the chevrolet dealership(greenwood) in austintown ohio i have 43000 miles on it and bought it new at greenwood chevrolet. *tr
Pulling out on the road before oncoming traffic and accelerated normal. the vehicle traveled about 10 to 20 yds when the engine rpm drastically increased like the vehicle went into neutral, but the transmission was in d. it happened so quickly and before i could let my foot off the accelerator a very loud bang occurred in the driveline. i immediately let off the accelerator and began pulling out of the right lane of traffic on to the shoulder out of traffic. i attempted to increase acceleration with the vehicle in d and the rpm increased and no forward motion, shifted to 3 and tried again (nothing), shifted to 2 and then the transmission engaged and forward motion was established. took vehicle to gm dealer and results were a broken sprag in the transmission. gm rebuilt transmission to repair. discussed with serv mgr the problem and he indicated that they see these sprags break quite often in this type of transmission. doing further research after that i discovered that there are numerous occasions of this vehicle with drive train problems in the transmission all throughout the veh mileage range from 4, 5000, 10000, and 34000 . vehicle service up to date by my dealership and has been driven under normal conditions. the engine is a 6.0 liter 395 hp, 400 ft\lb torque. i also noticed where gm first produced this vehicle with a lighter duty transmission 4l60-e, then upgraded to a 4l70-e and larger torque converter to withstand the power developed by the 6.0 liter engine. their gm serv. mgr indicated my vehicle had the 4l70-e transmission when i called him to discuss. there is still an issue with this particular circumstance with the heavier transmission not handling the power developed. it is a safety hazard if quick acceleration was needed to cross an intersection or avoid oncoming traffic. fortunately i wasn't crossing traffic and turning from the parking lot onto the road able to avoid oncoming traffic avoiding a serious accident. trailblazer. *tr
2006 chevrolet trailblazer. consumer states problem with brakes and traction control light illuminating. *tgw the consumer the abs would activate when making right turns. several components were replaced, but the consumer continued to experience problems. the blower resistor was replaced due to it only working on high. the engine light illuminated, the fuel sensor was not working, the heat was inoperative, there were noise/creaks coming from the steering wheel when driving slow and making turns, the power windows and heated seats stopped working, the fuel gauge was inaccurate, the 4-wheel drive switch had to replaced, the seat belt was difficult to fasten, the head lights and tail lights sockets burned out, the fan for the heater and defroster stopped working, the transmission would not down shift properly and eventually had to be replaced, the ignition switch didn't always work and the key would sometimes get stuck. *jb
The 2006 trailblazer had issues with the 2-wheel drive/4-wheel drive actuator and sensor. i had the sensor replace under warranty because the indicator light on the actuator handle was in a different range than what the knob indicated. after replacement, the truck indicator light would occasionally change while driving. there were no warning lights indicating that there was an issue with the power train system. the transfer case eventually burned up due to continuous switching between high and low hears while driving. the truck lost power while driving at 65 miles an hour in mountainous and snowy conditions. the transfer case, and sensor and actuator were all paid my the car owner. *tr
While having the suv repaired because of a drive train failure, the auto dealership indicated to me that the fan clutch was not working and defaulted to maximum speed. *tr
Very hard, shocking 2-1 (maybe 3-2?) downshift after long drive as in 2-3 hours or under heavy load. such a hard brutal shift can lead to an accident. this is a very serious situation and it feels like you have hit something solid like another car. it is hard enough to completely jar occupants and dislodge glasses off of your face. you immediately lose about 5 mph. feels like it could cause complete transmission failure. it is very difficult to recreate this failure and it is so scary that you would not want to do it again. *js
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. after stopping the vehicle she shifted into park and removed her foot off of the brake pedal; the vehicle surged forward until she reapplied pressure to the brake pedal. once the vehicle stopped she noticed that the instrument panel displayed that the vehicle was still shifted in drive even though the gear shift lever was in park. in order to turn off the vehicle she had to apply the parking brake. she attempted to restart the vehicle but it would not start. the failure was not diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileages were 34,000.
Front axle of 2006 chevy trailblazer became unattached from the transfer case. *tr
2006 chevy trailblazer - bought at 11,000 miles in march 2007. now, at 46,000 miles, just after warranty expired, i have fuel gauge failure; automatic transmission problems; 4wd problems. *tr
2006 chevy trailblazer. i have been told several time by the mechanic at chevy that the idler pulley is constantly a problem. *tr
Transmission on my 2006 trailblazer failed at 44,000 miles. the failure caused the vehicle to roll backwards almost immediately. the vehicle would only operate in 1st and 2nd gear. dealership inspection indicated that the transmission failed prematurely but had no explanation as to why. *tr
Driving to work soon as pull off the trans does not want to shift into second gear till you reach at least 2500 rpm's or higher and then jerks you in your seat. only does this from 1st to 2nd gear shift, all other shift work proper. could not make it to work that day (resulting in me being fired) instead had to take it to the transmission shop in which i paid 160 dollars to change solenoids, filter and fluid. this did not fix the problem. had 55,000 miles when this happened. the trans guy says it needs a rebuild which is in upwards of $2000. vehicle is 2006 trailblazer ss awd model. a $45,000 vehicle with a bad trans at 55,000 miles is ridiculous. i have now 56,000 miles. *tr
Transmission cooling lines corroded and failed causing a car fire. the transmission fluid leaked on to the catalytic converted igniting a fire that melted the wiring harness and elements of the electrical/computer system. *tr
Purchased used 38k miles problems started straight away reardoor locks quit, child safety lock rod fell off broken clip, would find plastic trim on ground next to car, seat trim broken fell off, when it rains or snows 4 wheel unit fail to engage and disengage correctly engine light comes on and goes out alot alternator is loud water pump went out ,rear chevy emblem popped off we now have 56k can't imagine what's next. *tr
I bought a brand new 2006 chevy trailblazer in jan. 19, 2006. on jan. 20, 2009 the 4-wheel drive component in the trailblazer quit working. now i am over the 36,000 miles - i have approx. 44, 000 miles on the trailblazer. the 4 wheel-drive will not work in 4wd hi, 4wd lo or automatic 4wd. i live in northwestern pa and need 4wd, especially the winter of 2009. there have been numerous occasions that i have slid on the road narrowly missing an accident due to not having 4 wheel drive. i called several dealers and asked if they had problems but was told one of two answers: 1. that's what happens when you buy a 4 wheel drive vehicle or 2. there's nothing we can do about it. i have never heard of this problem with any other model on such low mileage! *tr
Noise from rear axle drive shaft clank at times when shifting 1st to 2nd autotransmisson and light traffic when stop and go under acceleration dealer replace rear axle gears only not the whole complete rear transaxle and then installed rubber spring mounts rear noise is worse now load whine in over drive from 42-to- 62 mph. *tr
Vehicle has 40,000 miles and transmission going bad already. codes pulled state that the transmission slipping
I came to a complete stop and went to move into the intersection. a couple of feet into the intersection the transmission made a loud bang type sound and the suv stopped moving. this almost caused accident with cross traffic and i was almost hit twice when i pushed the suv out of the intersection. the suv was repaired at a dealership the cause was a failure of the forward sprag in the transmission. vehicle was a 2006 trailblazer lt 4wd with a 5.3 l v 8. transmission was repaired old part was not available. *jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the front passenger seat track cover was loose. in addition, the transmission would slip and the engine made a hissing sound while driving between 45-50 mph. the vehicle would drive in reverse and then shift into gear. the vehicle was taken to the dealer three times. when the contact removed his foot from the accelerator pedal, the vehicle would stop and not move again until it reached 5-8 mph (stabilizing track). the master cylinder also failed. when making a left or right turn ,the power steering would make a loud screeching sound. the vehicle was taken to the dealer six times. the dealer confirmed the failures. the current mileage was 49,000 and failure mileage was 13,000.
I have had many many problems with my 2006 chevrolet trailblazer most recently the transmission is bad, i had started complaining to the dealer about the transmission slipping at around 8,000 miles, the truck now has 17,000 miles on it. the dealer refuses to repair it under my warranty. the dealer will not cover the repair. the dealer told me i had to pay out of pocket. i was informed of this on 5/4/2007. i have had many many repairs done on this vehicle, something is not right. the dealer also refuses to fix the brakes, the dealer claimed to have repaired them 3,000 miles ago and told me that it is not possible for the brakes to be bad again, the dealer said i need rotors, pads, and they did replace a lt ft caliper that they found to be bad. the dealer will not replace the pads and rotors. the dealer has told me to pick my vehicle up. the vehicle is currently not in safe condition to operate on public highway, i informed the dealer that i will leave the truck there while i contact nhtsa and whoever else i find that will help me. if the dealer insist that i remove my vehicle, i will have it towed, i will not operate the vehicle on public highways, as it is not safe. i will now list some of the items most recently replaced. also, abs , check engine, and service 4wd lite was on and off since january 2007. the gas gauge malfunctioned. the instrument panel was replaced twice, also replaced the radio, front heater, rear heater, dvd player, both upper ball joints, brakes, ft wheel bearing, lt ft door control, ft calipers, some kind of bearing in the steering wheel. the front suspension still makes noise, rattles (the dealer cannot find the problem) there is more but this is what i remember right now without looking it up. the dealer also told me that it is not possible for so many things to be wrong and has accused me of changing parts over from another trailblazer. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start after multiple attempts. the contact had to recharge the battery in order to start the vehicle. the dealer stated that the pcm needed to be replaced. in addition, the headlights were too dim while driving at night. the dealer stated that the vehicle was working up to standards. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 5,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that when driving downhill and shifting into third gear, the vehicle only accelerated to 40 mph. the dealer stated that the vehicle was designed to operate in that manner. the current mileage is 7,000 and failure mileage was 4. the vehicle came equipped with a trailer hitch. the owners manual stated it could tow over 6,000 pounds. the transmission is a 4 speed auto. while going down hill, and manually moving the shift lever t the 3rd position for the engine compression, it would provide compression for slowing down to 40-45 mph. updated 08/09/07. *jb
