The driver's door controls stopped working and there was an immediate electrical burning smell and smoke. the windows stopped working entirely. it was very apparent that something in the door had melted or burned (no visible appearance of fire on the outside, no flames). i took the vehicle to a gm dealership for repairs, which i opted for based on the severity of the issues and would other causes may be at work (would this happen again? what else was affected?), and they replaced the door control (not inexpensive). i believe this matches gm#12180 and nhtsa # 12v406000. the actual event occurred a few years ago- the date is very approximate and may not be accurate. the area is nj. there were no out-of-the-usual circumstances with the use of the vehicle. in coming across this while researching it, i thought i would include my event for your purposes. the recall process has been slow; personally not very satisfied, i've spoken with gm and they are still working on sending the letters to reimburse those of us who actually encountered this. *tr

Fuel gauge registers empty at all times. low level light is always luminated low fuel warning displayed. *dt

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trail blazer. the contact stated that the check engine light illuminated on the instrument panel. the dealer diagnosed that the sensor ignition was defective and the vehicle was repaired numerous times, but the failure continuously recurred. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 27,000.

I have an 06 chevy trailblazer and after some research on the internet i have found that the problem i am having with the sending units on my fuel pump is a rather common problem. gm is well aware of this issue but seems to not care and only wants to collect the money for these replacement fuel pumps. i would like to see gm recall this and fix the problem for this, it is not just the trailblazer but the envoys and rainers. seems to be a bigger issue with the trailblazers. makes one wonder how many of these trucks have had this problem and not posted it on line and paid the 800 plus to fix it. *tr

The fuel light stays on empty even when the car is full. you can never know how much gas is in the car. the check engine light comes on. it goes off when the car is full for about one day, then comes back on again until you fill the car up again. there is a problem with the sensor and it costs approximately $800 to have it repaired. this is a problem in chevy trailblazers as everyone that i have spoken with that has a trailblazer has this problem. i even know a couple that has a 1999 trailblazer with the same problem. the dealer refuses to fix the problem because there has not been a recall.

None of the dash hands work. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. while examinig his vehicle he noticed that none of the electrical components were functioning properly. upon further examination, the contact noticed that the drivers side power window control wires were burned due to a small internal fire. the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer and there were no prior warnings. the current and failure mileages were 28,706.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trail blazer. the contact stated that the engine stalled without warning. the failure was experienced several times. the dealer replaced the ignition switch with an newly designed ignition switch and the failure was permanently corrected. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 1500 and the current mileage was 90,400.

Driving about 30 mph, smelled burning plastic?, smoke comes from drivers door, now windows not working, automatic door locks not working, gas gauge not working. told master window switch and wiring in door needs replacing due to melting. *tr

After changing the vehicle's battery, the fuel system, air system and 4x4 system have all failed. gmc is aware of my issue and hundreds of others. they refuse to fix this known issue, this vehicle is very dangerous to drive. *tr

In my 2006 chevy trailblazer, the gas sensor does not work and caused the check engine light to come on intermittently as well as causing the fuel gauge to remain on empty regardless of the actual fuel level. i have had the car diagnosed and was informed that it was the sensor in the gas tank and the repair would cost me $500 to replace a part that would ultimately fail again. gm has refused to cover partial expenses of this repair even though they are aware of said problem. i first notified gm on 6/23/2009 and they have yet to issue a recall. there is currently an open investigation :action number dp10001. *tr

A/c wiring burnt. fan blower replaced 13 may 09, didn't work on any speed. turned in to get fixed at castrol car care center, hinesville, ga. two days later not working, so returned. wires fried at pig tail. all parts were factory recommended. *tr

Faulty gas gauges in 2006 chevy trailblazers gauge only reads empty all the time. vehicle is 4 yrs old with 33k miles. i filled a complaint with chevrolet and my dealership. complaints are all over the internet on this. this is a safety issue and needs to be investigated. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving approximately 45 mph, the battery indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. ten seconds later, the brakes failed and the brake pedal extended to the floor. the contact had to apply the emergency brake in order to stop the vehicle. she drove to a nearby dealer and was informed that the alternator failed while driving and did not produce enough energy to the brakes in order to stop. the dealer replaced the alternator and the battery. the contact believes that this is a safety hazard and the manufacturer should issue a recall. through online research, he found numerous complaints for this same defect. the current and failure mileages were 33,900.

Purchased used 38k miles problems started straight away reardoor locks quit, child safety lock rod fell off broken clip, would find plastic trim on ground next to car, seat trim broken fell off, when it rains or snows 4 wheel unit fail to engage and disengage correctly engine light comes on and goes out alot alternator is loud water pump went out ,rear chevy emblem popped off we now have 56k can't imagine what's next. *tr

Drivers door control panel burned causing failure of door locks, windows, etc. gas gauge continually showed incorrect amounts of fuel causing running out of fuel. replaced the part and it happened again.chevrolet took no blame.recently chevy notified all owners that there is a problem that they will fix up to 1/2 of the actual cost.(my share will be $218 for their mistake) back tail lights have blown out over and over again since purchase. finally replaced entire units on my own andit continued to happen. contacted chevrolet dealer and chevy customer service.went to dealer and had the taillights repaired but chevy again took no responsibility but kindly sent me a$1000 voucher for use on a new purchase of a chevrolet.the dealer repair cost was apprx.$680. still own the vehicle and will have make fuel gauge repair. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the alternator failed to work properly. as a result, the vehicle made loud noises. the noise occurred every time the vehicle was started for at least four months. the contact has not taken the vehicle to be inspected for the alternator failure. he was informed by another dealer that the bearings were faulty. he feels that this is a saftey issue because the alternator and battery are needed for the vehicle to operate properly. the current and failure mileages were 39,000. updated 02-18-09 updated 02/18/09. *jb

I am failing compliant case of fire hazard on the blower resistor, have complained to the chevy garage about this they have known the problem was there since 2004 and never reported this, the wires burnt filling the trailblazer hazard smoke causing my grandchildren to cough and nauseated, along with my wife and me. they will not cover to repair this .i am seeking help on this matter.also there is a bad short somewhere causing a the battery to drain which may cause a fire ....... not sure of what this is. i have contacted state representative [xxx] the congressman. please contact me a.s.a.p if any more details needed . my wife uses this for work and i am very concern on the fire which may occur i am an auto mechanic for 40 + years and i know there is a server problem of a defect in this vech. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).*tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. while the vehicle was parked in the driveway, the contact heard the alarm sound. she looked outside and noticed that the vehicle was in flames. the fire department extinguished the fire and stated that it was electrical and originated from the driver's side door. a police report was filed. the fire burned the entire driver's side of the vehicle, a portion of the front passenger seat, and the roof. the contact called her insurance company, but could not reach the chevrolet dealer. the failure mileage was 40,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the rear directional signal harness and fuses were replaced twelve times. water penetrates the harness and corrodes the directional signal fuse. the manufacturer stated that the failure was repaired in 2005 according to nhtsa campaign id number 05v198000 (exterior lighting:turn signal). the vehicle is out of warranty; therefore, they would not assist with the repair. the failure mileage was 45,000 and current mileage was 80,000.

Driver side speaker intermittently comes on (rarely). driver side window switch intermittently works. it used to intermittently fail, now it rarely works. occasionally, all the driver controls on the dashboard go dead and the radio doesn't work. the lock doesn't work. the abs light and traction control light always illuminate. this intermittent electrical problem has been one big headache and it all seems to point to the drivers side window switch which is under investigation for fires. there is a defect in these window switches and the owners of the vehicles should not be burdened financially because of this. *tr

Fuel gauge suddenly became inaccurate. reads empty and chimes empty even when full. since it happens intermittently, it has caused me to run out of gas more than once in past three years. received blanket offer from manufacturer to cover half of the expense, so they know it is an issue, but should be a total recall for safety. *tr

Car started making a very faint whining sound and has gotten quite loud and have had it looked at and spoke to other owners with the same problem and so far have found out that the rear bearing goes out in the alternator quite early as in my vehicle which only has 28,000 miles on it.*tr

Horn button in steering wheel becomes progressively more difficult to actuate, eventually failing altogether. horn can no longer be sounded by pressing on air bag cover on steering wheel. consequence is inability to sound a hazard warning to other vehicles during an emergency, which can render a collision unavoidable. defective or misadjusted horn button switch is proven as root cause because horn can still be activated by remote key fob. *tr

I just want to get some information out there on my experience: battery replacement seem ways too often 8/2008, 10/2010, 9/2013 - and there is no notice until you cannot start it one day. first thing to go was the idle pulley. i have had the water pump/thermostat/belts replaced multiple times 50k, 60k, 87k. headlights and tail lights replaced at least 3 times each. i have had to clean the throttle block plate multiple times or the tb will stall when the brake is applied or heat/ac on. i have come to find out that there are many non-oem parts which i never replaced (i purchased used w/17k miles) and nothing showed up on car fax or other reports about accidents or repairs. i had the gas guage/tank/float repaired while it was under warranty still and then a year later it broke again, and i am still riding with it broken (at least the last 5 years), which of course keeps my check engine light on nearly all the time. i just located the notice that gm is now doing 100% of the repair and i will be making an appointment to get it fixed as i will not pass inspection and i never know how much gas i have. i fill every 200 miles. there are other minor issues such as interior lights going out, both of the front seats have detached from the side molding (only 1 little screw holds them in), the rear washer has not worked in about 6 years. i also have loud noises coming out of the tires/wheels and no one can determine an exact cause, but it's not the brakes or rotors or anything like that. i currently have under 89k miles. i am waiting for the door electrical system to go next as that seems like what is next on the list of tb issues. *tr

I have had numerous problems out of my 2006 chevy trailblazer, but all have been covered under warranty up until this point. i purchased my vehicle new with 18 miles on it. it is currently at 42k and i am just outside of my warranty. i filled my car up twice this week and the fuel gauge showed full as i left the gas station. by the time i got home ( approx 1 mile away ) the low fuel indicator turned on. i took my car to the dealership and they indicated that my fuel gauge censor has gone. i took it to the dealership and they refuse to repair it free. the cost is $457.00. unfortunately it costs me about that much a month to keep the sucker gassed up so i cannot afford to 'give' gm any more of my money. i am driving it as it is and searching for a cheaper route to repair my vehicle. i have to children that i have to transport around and i am terrified that i will run out of gas. this is such an extreme and unnecessary stress. please help. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the failure was contributed to the lack of gasoline in the fuel tank. roadside assistance was called to the scene. the contact stated that the fuel gauge displayed inaccurate readings at any fuel level capacity. the vehicle resumed normal operation after gasoline was added to the fuel tank. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure mileage was 40,200 and current mileage was 60,000.

2006 chevrolet trailblazer fuel level sensor hasn't worked since about 28,000 miles, now has about 80,000 miles on vehicle. thousands upon thousands of 2006 trailblazers have had the same problem which chevrolet (gm) knows about but won't put out a recall service bulletin to replace this defaulted part. here the taxpayers bailed gm out , but they won't take care of this huge problem where an operator of this vehicle could run out of fuel at any time not knowing how much fuel is in the tank because it reads empty all of the time with the low fuel light on as well. we as taxpayers can bail them out, but they won't take car of a problem that could result in deaths when a vehicle runs out of fuel at the wrong time, and in the wrong place. is this what is needed before gm takes care of this problem? this seems to be the case. also with this problem it sends signals that won't allow the vehicle to pass ny state vehicle inspection when there is nothing else wrong with the vehicle. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving 10 mph, the contact noticed smoke coming from the driver's side door panel. he pulled over and turned off the vehicle, which caused it to stop smoking. a mechanic stated that the control fuse box caught fire. the contact took his vehicle to the dealer, but they did not have the necessary parts for the repair. in addition, the contact was experiencing fuel gauge issues. when he filled up the vehicle with gasoline, the gauge indicated that it was empty. the failure mileage was 47,500. updated 07/28/09 *bf updated 07/30/09.*jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle stalled. after several attempts, the vehicle restarted. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. the ignition circuit was replaced; however, the failure recurred. the mechanic stated that the throttle body needed to be cleaned. in addition, the contact stated that there was a grinding sound as the ignition was being started. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. the technician stated that the starter drive gear was worn and the starter was replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 8.

Window doesn't roll down or stay up. gas gauge broke .. engine light and catalytic converter light stays on. handle design on door came off. engine went out due to a pistol loose. *tr

Horn doesn't always work. seems to be a shortage. *tr

We have had two 2006 trailblazers and both of them have been nothing but problems for us. the first one we brought we owned it for six months and we had it in the shop six times (broken sway bar, heater two times, windshield wiper fluid holder two times, shaky front wheel and motor misfiring. we traded in hopefully to avoid more problems and went ahead after assurance that this one must just be bad and got another 2006 trailblazer. this one we have only had for 2 months and we're already having problems. three days after we bought it had to go to the shop for the radio not working properly. then the engine starting misfiring and the engine light was on and it was running really rough. the tech thought that it was happening because the gas cap wasn't all the way tightened. (when the engine light comes on you loose power and i pulled out in front of a car on the highway and barley moved that's how i found that out.) when he called me back he said that i had two cracked sparks plugs and the battery cable was loose making it start slowly. that was fixed but then 5-27-07 the engine light came on again and it was running rough just like before. it seems like everytime that the engine gets wet that it makes it misfire. i told the dealership this several times now. it had been raining that day. everytime i take it in for the engine they tell me there is a lot of moisture under the hood on the motor. it's in the shop right now. *tr

I have had many many problems with my 2006 chevrolet trailblazer most recently the transmission is bad, i had started complaining to the dealer about the transmission slipping at around 8,000 miles, the truck now has 17,000 miles on it. the dealer refuses to repair it under my warranty. the dealer will not cover the repair. the dealer told me i had to pay out of pocket. i was informed of this on 5/4/2007. i have had many many repairs done on this vehicle, something is not right. the dealer also refuses to fix the brakes, the dealer claimed to have repaired them 3,000 miles ago and told me that it is not possible for the brakes to be bad again, the dealer said i need rotors, pads, and they did replace a lt ft caliper that they found to be bad. the dealer will not replace the pads and rotors. the dealer has told me to pick my vehicle up. the vehicle is currently not in safe condition to operate on public highway, i informed the dealer that i will leave the truck there while i contact nhtsa and whoever else i find that will help me. if the dealer insist that i remove my vehicle, i will have it towed, i will not operate the vehicle on public highways, as it is not safe. i will now list some of the items most recently replaced. also, abs , check engine, and service 4wd lite was on and off since january 2007. the gas gauge malfunctioned. the instrument panel was replaced twice, also replaced the radio, front heater, rear heater, dvd player, both upper ball joints, brakes, ft wheel bearing, lt ft door control, ft calipers, some kind of bearing in the steering wheel. the front suspension still makes noise, rattles (the dealer cannot find the problem) there is more but this is what i remember right now without looking it up. the dealer also told me that it is not possible for so many things to be wrong and has accused me of changing parts over from another trailblazer. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning. the failure was recurring. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the technician diagnosed that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. the ignition switch was replaced on four separate occasions. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 27,000 and the current mileage was 49,500.

While driving down the interstate the low beam headlights shut off. we pulled over as it was nighttime and turned on the high beams. a few minutes later we were able to use the low beams again. this has happened repeatedly since then. just once in awhile until recently. just last night, july 09, 2014; they turned off at least eight times going to and from church which is about 7 miles from my home. this is a very dangerous and scary thing to happen. we mentioned it to the dealership awhile back and they said unless it was happening right at this moment they wouldn't be able to find out the problem. i love my vehicle, except for the electrical issues (lights, wipers, stereo, etc.). please help! *tr

This not a formal complaint, simply information. we had a 2006 trailblazer that had the power equipment switchplate melt down when the vehicle was garaged. when i parked it the windows were up and when i went to the garage 2 hours later the drivers window was down and the smell of smoke came from inside the drivers door panel. switchplate was in-operative. my point is gm know about this as early as 2007 and neglected to do anything about it. this agency almost killed off toyota for allegedly hiding known defects; perhaps it is gm,s time in the chair? 2006 chevy trailbazer has a bad alternator. i took the day off work to fix the vehicle. to my surprise you can't get one for this vehicle from anywhere. they are on backorder through gm. i guess i need to find a new way to work until my new one arrives. *jb

Tl*- the contact stated that the 2006 chevrolet trailblazer had stalling problems which started back in march 2006. the contact stated that while driving 30-40 mph the vehicle would lose all power. the contact took vehicle to dealership, and they found nothing wrong with the vehicle. she stated that on 04/06 she had to have vehicle towed to another dealership, the vehicle would not start. the contact stated that they couldn't find anything wrong either. they did replace the starter at that time, but the failure continued to happen, and now the radio has shorted out and caused the vehicle to lose power. the dealership replaced the radio. on 12/23/06, the vehicle lost power again while driving 10-15 mph and trying to make a right turn. the vehicle was towed to dealership again, they found nothing wrong again. the contact stated that this was a safety issue, especially while driving on the freeway. the contact stated that she filed a complaint with the manufacturer, # 71-426356150. the contact stated that someone from their legal department caller her and stated that they will have someone come out and look at her vehicle in mid february.*ak
