Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that when she entered the vehicle, she smelled a burning odor. the contact was unaware of where the odor was coming from however, she later discovered a recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 12v406000 (electrical system). the vehicle was taken to the dealer who informed her that the vehicle was not included in the recall. the manufacturer was notified but offered no assistance. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure and current mileages were 69,100.
I have a 2006 trailblazer and a few weeks ago my driver side control panel stopped working. could not use my remote to open the door and was unable to put any windows down. i thought there was a short in the wires somewhere because the next day the panel worked. now, two weeks later i stopped at the store and was getting out of the car and again i could not lock my doors using the button on the control panel. i left the door unlocked and when i came out (within minutes) my door window had gone down on its own while i was in the store. when i got into the car, my daughter and i could smell something burning. she immediately made me go to the garage and have her mechanic check it out. he was able to remove the panel and showed us where the plastic part that goes inside the handle had melted and could have caused a fire in the car. he called around to try and find a replacement part and was finally able to find one and was quoted over $300 for just the part!! then, i had to set up an appointment with the dealer to have it installed because it has to be programmed to my car and i was quoted about $103 for installation!!!! i can not believe this problem has not been listed as a recall after reading all the complaints with the same problem. i plan on getting a phone number from the dealer for the gm corporate office to file an automotive complaint tomorrow. i hope to be reimbursed for this part and the labor charge. this sounds like a serious safety issue to me and thank goodness my car did not start on fire while i was driving. read more: http://wot.motortrend.com/nhtsa-opens-investigation-on-2006-2007-chevy-trailblazers-for-power-window-switch-issues-169431.html#ixzz26rrcv9ed. *tr
Having a problem with the vehicle rpm dropping while idling and the head lights flickering and sometimes shutting off. check engine light come on and the code said it was the "idle air control valve" it only happens when the ac compressor is engaged. the problem seems to go away when the ac is turned off. have not had it repaired yet because it's a fairly expensive part. *tr

My 2006 chevy trailblazer driver side door caught on fire sometime early morning while we slept. now my vehicle will not start and driver side door and window module is totally melted. i have had issues with other things prior to this. my door chimes stopped working. my air will not blow out of the vents and my radio speakers are not working. my teenager drives this vehicle so this is a big concern for me. i really would love gm to step up to the plate and honor their product. i feel taken advantage of. i have seen websites with complaint after complaint with the trailblazer's electrical problems. we need a voice. someone who has the power or pull to force chevy to recall the electrical issues regarding their workmanship or the quality of their product. *tr updated 8/17/12 *cn

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the air conditioning unit, harness and the master switch on the driver's side window failed. the check engine light illuminated whenever the vehicle was turned off. the master switch malfunction prevented all the windows from working properly. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who advised the contact that the master switch and the air conditioning unit were defective and needed to be replaced. the vin was not available. the failure mileage and current mileages were 47,500.
The vehicle windows open and close randomly. the front driver panel controls all windows and will close the windows randomly if open. my child has been close to injured due to this. the side view mirror will randomly move in the downward direction while i am driving. the front driver door will stay locked even after turning the vehicle in park and shutting the vehicle off, locking me in. the manual switch to unlock the driver door doesn't always work either, so i need to climb over to the passenger side of the vehicle to get out. all these occurrences are dangerous to me and my children and i would like this to be addressed. i have contacted the dealership and gm and they said i do not fall under the recall due to my location, even though i spend a significant amount of time in the northeast coastal area. the dealer also refused to fix the problem saying they don't have the protocol on the recall repair of this vehicle. gm has that record. updated 08/11/12 *bf
2006 trailblazer was parked not running. when i opened the door there was a burning plastic smell and smoke coming from the drivers door. when i pulled the door window switch panel out, the side of it was melted and had melted part of the door panel, window, door lock, and window lock button don't work. i have to manually lock the drivers door, because the remote doesn't work on that door. looked up recalls and was surprised when it wasn't on your website. multiple complaints all over the internet about this same issue. *tr updated 08/21/12*lj
While on vacation in ny i went to move my trailblazer to be able to pack up for the trip home and when moving it i noticed a strong smell of electrical fire and noticed smoke coming from the area around the drivers door master window switch. i quickly turned the truck off and pulled the switch plate out of the door but it was to late. the damage had already been done. the switch had shorted and melted all of the ribbon cable in the switch and rendered it inoperable. there was a slight misty rain when all of this occurred, i am just glad it happened in the driveway and not on the highway. i called and talked with chevy and they told me there was no recall for this and there was nothing they could do to help and then stated that it was vin specific. so which is it no recall or vin specific? *tr

The problems just began with my car with the gas gauge working intermittently and with in 2 weeks i had to change the drivers side taillight which was not only burned out but the housing was melted to the bulb. next within a weeks time i was in the drive thru getting food and all the gauges just flashed and the car died. upon trying to restart it several times the lights flashed off and on; the doors locked and unlocked themselves and their was not even enough power to call onstar. check fuses found no problems. still waiting diagnosis and getting it fixed. *tr
The drivers side window control panel would not work for any of the windows. the vehicle was not running. i checked the fuse and found it to be blown. i replaced it with the exact same size and type of fuse. then i tried to roll up the drivers side window. the door window control panel switch then began to smoke and there was the smell of burning electronics and plastic. i took it to the dealership and was told the control panel and regulator had fried and would need to be completely replaced. *tr

After a recent rainstorm, windows will not work from driver side window switch. windows will go down and come right back up. they now are working intermittently. sometimes they will go down and not come up, or go down and come right back up. very dangerous, especially with kids if they like to put their hands out the window while your driving and it goes up on them; it's possible they could get their hands stuck and cause serious injury. *tr
Power windows were rolled up and key off and vehicle unattended and locked. later in afternoon after it rained it was reported the drivers window was down. after checking on the vehicle the window had rolled itself down sometime while in at work. the drivers window switch would not operate. after getting estimate at gm dealer(700+) and body shop(350 plus programming at gm dealer), they were able to jump motor to roll up window and disable switch. harness and switch were starting to melt and deform wire insulation at drivers window switch but did not catch on fire or melt to bare wiring. *tr
I bought my trailblazer (which i love) in the spring of 2012. a few months after purchasing the vehicle i came to learn that the horn no longer worked. i know the horn worked when i purchased the car because i checked it. i brought it in to a well renowned repair shop and they told me that their findings after looking it up was that there is a slight glitch with the horn and that, like other forms had stated, the more you use it the better chance of getting it to work. the mechanic said that he was reading that other people were having the same problem and that the horns on these trailblazers needed to be massaged a little in the corner and the would work again. he said they got it working. i have yet to be able to get any noise out of my horn at all. this concerns me because of the safety issues that can arise with the lack of a horn to get someone else's attention if need be. *tr
The master window control module burned out. *tr
While driving down city road, i began to smell a burnt smell. i looked to my left and saw a little wisp of smoke from my driver side power window switches. i immediately stopped, shut off vehicle, popped the hood and disconnected the power to my battery. i called a friend who is a mechanic and he took out the switch cluster. opened the cluster and saw a burnt mark on the bottom left of circuit board. it will need to be replaced. pictures received 06/25/12 updated 06/29/2012 *js
This issue started when the back hatch of the trailblazer would not lock or open and the rear wiper would not work. after dealing with this for a few months the doors, windows and driver side seat stopped working. also, the doors would not lock/unlock with the keyless entry. after some research, i changed the lgm fuse (it was blown). once the fuse was changed everything started working except the back hatch. i manually locked the back hatch and closed it. once the hatch was closed all of the doors locked and i could not open the truck. i manually used the key and opened the driver side door. when i opened the door i could hear the electrical wires burning in the door panel and throughout the truck. the truck was filled with smoke and smelt of burnt plastic. luckily i was not inside the truck when the fire started because none of the unlock or window buttons worked. i would have been stuck inside of a burning truck. i unplugged the negative charge of the battery and put the fire out. once the fire was out i tried starting the truck and it would not start. i went through all of the gears with the truck off, i pulled up the e-brake and the truck started. once i shut the truck back off it would not start again. *tr
While driving during the day all of the speakers started going in and out. this has happened for the last year. as of now only the very front dash speakers are audible but very faint. the other issue we're having is at night the headlights will completely go out. we will immediately have to pull over and wait for the car to decide when the lights will come back on. *tr
Last summer the windows on my trailblazer started acting up. sometime would work, sometimes not. seem to be affected by the weather, if it was raining. would stop working all together if it was raining, then would start to work, when it had dried up. i received a notice on a safety recall for my vehicle, but when i called into the dealership, they said that it was not covered since i had not registered in a list of the northern states. i know for a fact that this vehicle was manufactured and driven for at least three years in one of the northern states. why would it matter if i had registered it here or there. there is still a safety issue with the window module. the recall should follow the vehicle not the registered owner. *tr
While driving, my headlights will intermittently turn off on their own. this does not happen frequently but has occurred several times per month for about 3 months duration. i had experienced this same event about 6 times before contacting gm directly. i contacted gm directly due to the fact that i consider this problem to be a safety issue. this vehicle is equipped with automatic headlights which turn on when darkness is detected. this automatic activation cannot be overridden with manual controls when the headlights turn off unexpectedly. i attempted to pull over and manually turn the headlights back on without resolution. i attempted to turn off the vehicle's ignition and restart the engine without resolution. nothing i could do would make the headlights turn back on. the headlights seem to have a mind of their own and will eventually turn back on but this is completely random, sometimes taking a few minutes or maybe up to 20 minutes. a certified gm service center claimed the issue to be with the body control module and provided an estimate for replacement. i elected to not have the dealer replace the body control module for a significant amount of money. i instead started searching for another solution. i turned to the internet and found that this same issue has been reported on this make of vehicle since at least 2002 continuing until the late 2000's. gm informed me over the phone that they had not heard of this issue before. the certified gm service center claimed that they have not heard of this issue before. a simple google search will tell you a different story. i ultimately followed the direction of a youtube video which directed me to replace a relay located on the vehicle's fuse plate. the cost of the part was approximately $30. my headlights are working again. in my opinion gm should issue a recall for this part and not the body control module. *tr
Driver's side window started going up and down erratically. next a small amount of smoke started to come out from around the window switch. then the smell of electric wires burning began. larger amount of smoke began coming from switch assembly. all occupants exited the vehicle safely. door panel was pulled from the frame. small fire started and became visible coming from behind door panel. fire extinguisher was used to put out fire. switch assembly was removed and confirmed electrical fire from the switch cluster.
After work i went to leave when i noticed my car smelled like burned plastic, i couldn't figure it out until i tried to roll the windows down and they did not work. so i popped the window component out and unplugged it, which was the smell, the unit must have fried (melted) while the vehicle was off. researching it, to try and replace the part i found multiple instances of this happening, where fires are caused by this module. i'm hoping this will help to have a recall, people door's should not be starting on fire, especially when the vehicle is off. updated 05/17/12 *bf *tr
Headlamp relay, i have had to replace it twice in a matter of a year. it was completely melted and caused the headlights to stay on resulting in a dead battery. there is obviously an issue here, it could have started a fire and caused harm. i will be reporting this straight to chevy too... *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact was driving 60 mph when a short caused the power door locks and window switches to function intermittently until becoming inoperable. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 12v406000 (visibility:power window devices and controls )however the manufacturer informed the contact that the vehicle was not eligible under the recall based on the state in which she resided. the vehicle had not been repaired. the mileage was unavailable. updated 9/25/12 *cn updated 10/04/12
Got into vehicle . noticed a burnt smell and it would not start. had power to most things. then i noticed the burnt switch. pulled switch out and it was melted along with wiring harness. while looking online for a new switch a wiring harness i came to find out this is a recurring problem with the 06 and 07 models, and yet no recall on this yet. this is the 2nd issue with electrical devices on this vehicle. my flasher control box burnt up last year while i was driving. *tr
I have had to have the ignition switch changed 3x in a year due to it failing. my vehicle has stalled out, will not start, and my dashboard lights, head lights also start acting up right before the ignition switch starts acting up. if i wiggle the key, sometimes that will get it to start, sometimes not. i have seen tons of complaints about this same issue with other trailblazers in the same year when i went online to forums to see if anyone else is having the same issues with their trailblazers. someone needs to look into these vehicles also as part of the gm recall. i will get it fixed and it will be ok for a bit, then the same thing starts all over again. i saw on the tv lastnight the special about gm and the ignition switches, and this is exactly the same thing my trailblazer does. please, i hope someone will look into this. i'm sure that if you put something out there about the "06 chevrolet trailblazers you would get numerous complaints like mine. thank you. *js
I went to work at 4pm got off at 12am,unlocked my door and went to open but didn't open so i opened the back driver side door and noticed my whole truck had a burnt plastic smell,i started to look around and noticed the smell came from the driver door panel,no noticeable melting from out side but the burnt smell is there, door panel isn't lit up for working,i googled the problem and came across similar people with trailblazers had the same problems, either the vehicle was in motion and caught on fire or in park unattended. nothing was spilt before the incident happened, just happened while i was at work . *tr

Oct 2012 recall notice 12180 was received from gm mar 2013 the parts available at dealer was received dealer, reliable chev., richardson tx, was contacted, suv taken in. did not have the part, special order. isn't 6 months a little! long to take care of a recall??? *tr
As many of the other complaints my 2006 trailblazer is having a fuel tank sending unit problem, the fuel gauge will read empty then shoot up to half full, i was told that the repair will cost approx 600. to 700.00 which i can't afford . i don't believe it's time to force gm to step up to the plate and issue a recall seeing that so many others are having the same problem. *tr
The driver and passenger side began to go up and down without me touching it. the driver side mirror also would not function. i was told that it was the master power switch that needed to be replaced. again i had to pay out of pocket for something that gm should cover. i just want gm to own up to this defect and offer reimbursement for this repair. *tr updated 7/11/12 *cn updated 07/17/12
I recently heard about problems with the model year 2006 chevy trailblazer master control window switch in the driver side door. last week, on march 4th, my driver side controls completely went out-- no window, lock, heated seat, or mirror control/functionality. it's clearly the same problem everyone else has been having, and now i'm concerned that the unit has shorted out and may cause a fire similar to what others have experienced. i do not want to have the control unit replaced with the same part number, as i'm concerned the new unit will be subject to the same issues. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. while parked, the contact noticed a burning smell coming from the front driver's side door. the power switches on the door also would not function. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnostic test. the technician stated that the motor in the power unit on the front driver's door had failed. the vin was not available. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
Our trailblazer has the service engine light on and off constantly. had it checked by our regular mechanic with the tester and it read the thermostat needed replacing which was done. the light is still going on and off and having it rechecked the reading said a problem with the cooling fan. checked fan and nothing. the headlights go on and off. the windshield wipers come on by themselves and then off. when it is raining they only work on fast speed. the window cleaner comes on when the wipers due which is hazardous when it is raining causing a visibility problem. i will be going to the dealer with the check engine light as we are going on a long trip in two weeks. didn't know there were so many problems with this vehicle as listed on the complaints section. *tr

2006 trailblazer 4wd. the driver's side window become erratic during operation at first. then entire electrical system was affected over next day or two, including making door locks operate on their own, heard electrical crackling sounds in door and dashboard. smelled electrical fire fumes slightly once. engine warning light came on, followed by light warning that stabilatrak had issues. took it into chevrolet dealership (harbor, 9911 w 300 n, michigan city, in. phone (219) 210-4266.) after the service department investigated, they reported that the issue was a burned out drivers door module that had obvious charring on it. the service tech noted on invoice sheet that he found the engine light was indicating a p0171 diagnostic issue which he traced to the "failed/shorted" driver door module. the solution was to replace the module and program the new module. the next day after getting back the vehicle, the engine warning light came on again. a check by me using my obd unit shows that once again the p0107 is the issue. i have also again heard crackling in the door, but no electrical issues seen thus far. will be heading back to dealership first chance that i get. cost of the unit replacement was $524.62. *tr
I smelled something burning and tried to roll my window down with no success. i have a friend who is a mechanic, remove the master switch from the door. there burn marks and melting on the plastic outside components. i am fearful that this could have caught fire and me or someone in my family would become seriously injured or worse. and who is to say that is would not do it again if the piece was only replaced. i feel this should be seriously looked at by chevrolet before something tragic happens. *tr
Car was parked and not running. an hour later, i returned to the car and manually unlocked the driver's door with the key and smoke came rolling out of car. i looked around and saw the driver's seat and the dash and ceiling covered in black ash and looked at the driver door and saw a hole melted in the door panel near the door handle by the automatic window and door locks. automatic window on drivers side would not work and auto lock/unlock would not work on driver side. updated 03/06/12 *bf the consumer has since traded the vehicle. updated 03/08/12 *tr
Got into my 2006 trailblazer one morning and could smell burning. saw brown burn marks around the window and lock device on the driver side door. no components worked so i could not roll down the window, or work the mirrors. when the window/lock compartment was taken out it was melted from the bottom up like it had caught fire. burn marks on the outside as well as the inside of where the device goes. called gm regarding incident they stated that i could pay a service fee and take it to one of their dealers and if they thought the incident was caused by something they did they would fix it, but if they thought that it wasn't caused by them not only would i pay the service fee but i would also have to pay for the part and the labor at the dealer. asked them if they had notified the correct authorities regarding the safety of driver side window/lock control catching fire. they stated that they did. advised them that this is unsafe and that they should not treat their customers like this and i would be taking it to the next level because i do not have $75.00 for the service fee and another $350.00 for the part, plus labor if they decide this is not their fault. i now have left the melted part out of my car terrified that if i put it back in that it will continue to burn and catch a huge fire while im driving with my children in the car. *tr
