We were driving on interstate 94 in north dakota and we heard a pop. by the time we pulled over there were flames up to the window on the drivers door. we quickly got out. vehicle is a total loss. this should not happen. date of accident was 10/31/2014. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving approximately 25 mph, the brakes failed. the failure occurred intermittently for three years. the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 62,000. the window regulator, battery cable, tank level sensor, clutch fan, serpentine belt, tight outer tie rod, hood latch, water pump, were all replaced. also, the rotors were warped, due to rust by climate, the rear brakes pads were worn and had to be replaced. the front rotors were machined. there was an intermittent surge after accelerating from a stop. there was a squealing noise coming from the brakes. the passenger side brake lights were blowing out. the tail light circuit board was replaced. the check engine light illuminated, due to a faulty emission vent valve and hose assembly. the abs was engaging, when coming to a stop. updated 10/01/14

Went for an oil change and my transmission dipstick handle was rusted off (kind of hard to remove it). i can't find anywhere that replaces them either.... *tr

i have been hearing a clicking noise and my car had begun sounding like a jet engine taking off for the last 3 days - very noisy. i took it to pep boys where i was told that it is normal for the trailblazer to begin making this noise shortly after 60k miles. i was told the serpentine belt needed to be replaced, tensioner pulley and the idler pulley. i had the new parts installed. none of my warning lights came on the dashboard so i assumed was well as there was no other indication that something was wrong. driving my car within 24 hours of being fixed, the fan clutch seized and my water pump burst causing car to overheat in the middle of an intersection where my car then stalled putting me and my children at risk for injury. the car almost caught on fire it was smoking severely. someone helped me move my car out of the busy intersection and i called my husband and a tow truck to come get the car. when i got home and looked up the problems again on the dealer website, i found hundreds of forums where the fan clutch has been mentioned and the water pump too. a fan clutch according to the mechanics i surveyed stated they should last at least 100k or more. this has been brought to gm and they ignore it. it is a safety issue. additionally, my speedometer hasn't worked for at least a year and when i called chevy they wanted to charge me $700 to replace it when it is not my issues. i didn't cause it. not knowing what speed you are going is definitely a safety hazard and can cause accidents or tickets.i am attaching a forum (this is just one of hundreds i found online)http://www.edmunds.com/chevrolet/trailblazer/2004/consumer-discussions.html where people are having the same safety issues i am and gm has ignored them. my car could have caught on fire today and i had my 4 yr old daughter with me. not a position i ever want to be in. please issue a recall. *tr

When filling up tank with gas, fuel gauge indicates empty and low fuel light appears. blower fan switch works intermittently, *tr

Started smelling exhaust fumes in the cabin of the truck. shortly after this began, the truck exhaust started getting louder. dealer diagnosed as cracked exhaust manifold. cost over $1,000 to repair. dealer would not warranty. *tt

The exhaust manifold on my engine had cracked and the mounting bolts had broken causing an exhaust leak. *tr

The blower/fan on the air conditioner/heater stopped working. it first began with #4 and #5 on the fan selector switch not working, but then it stopped altogether. after doing research this blower motor problem is very popular amongst these vehicles. also, the fuel gauge on the dash hasn't worked in about 3 years. after doing some research, it appears that this is due to the fuel sensor in the fuel tank. again, this is very common occurrence within the trailblazer community. i was given an estimate of $774 for the blower motor to be fixed and $600 for the fuel gauge to be fixed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact was driving approximately 45-50 mph when the vehicle would suddenly jerk forward as if it were attempting to stall. in addition, the fuel gauge would not operate properly and would read empty after she would refill the tank. the vehicle was not inspected by a dealer nor repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was approximately 100,000.

My gas gauge always reads empty even when the car is full. engine light always goes on and off between a matter of days. recently my heat went out in my car we changed the resistor and found out one of the prongs were burnt out. a week later the heat went out again. looked at the resistor and the same prong was burnt out!! i'm getting really fed up with this vehicle! *kb

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the catalytic converter warning light was illuminated and the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the dealer advised that the catalytic converter would need to be reset but not repaired. the dealer reset the catalytic converter however the reset was only a temporary repair. one year later, after refueling the vehicle, the fuel level sensor failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 97,000 and the current mileage was 105,000.

After waiting at a stop sign or stop light for a short period of time as you go to accelerate the rpms of the motor drop of by 100 to 200 then pick up. on some occasions the vehicle will stall leaving me in the middle of an intersection trying to start my car. i have spent almost $2000 diagnosing this problem with no solution in sight. *tr

Burning smell coming from the a/c. speed 4 and 5 both quit and now the whole thing has stopped working. this will be the third time is has been replaced and the dealer i take it to tell me this is a common problem on 2005 chevy trailblazers. blower motor resistor is burnt out and the harness (which would cost about $200). they said that this was another common problem for this car model. *tr

Trailblazer was making roaring noise when first starting up and took about 2 minutes for it to run normal, voltage meter fluctuates as well as the lights dimming intermittently during this time. this started happening about 3 weeks ago. when first taking off after being stopped, engine accelerates unexpectedly. it jumps, and i have to hit the brakes. it has had this problem since i have owned it (since jan '09). the last couple of days if the radio is left on, it does not automatically shut off like it is supposed to when you shut the door. the passenger side works. just had clutch fan and water pump replaced and the mechanic says that it is a common problem with these vehicles. after having that done, it still makes a roaring noise for the first five to ten minutes of driving. going to have another diagnostic on it to see what is wrong with it. the suv is a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer ls, 4wd, 6 cylinder motor and has about 88,000 miles on it. *tr

When we bought our 2005 chevy trailblazer we had to turn it around and take it back to the dealership. the check engine light came on. all they did was reset it. it came back on some time later, we took it back to dealership they got it worked in at the nearest chevy shop, they reset the light and we were told to buy a gascap for it. we bought the gas cap, light stayed off until now. we have taken our 2005 chevy trailblazer to the local shop they hooked it up to the computer and found nothing wrong. so far nothing has been done, but since the light is on it is a gas guzzler with light on getting 6 miles to the gallon. with gas at 2.59 a gallon that's not cheap. chevrolet dealer in town says its probably the throttle body needs cleaning, and it needs a new battery. they say the throttle body is a common problem in the new models, because the gas is not fit for the newer model vehicles. *tr

Car stalls when going around corners. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the vehicle would stall sporadically and without warning. the dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure, but denied any assistance with repairs to the vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 15,000 and the current mileage was 40,000. the vin was unavailable.

Headlights intermittently 'flash' for a second during first 5-10 minutes of driving. have replaced alternator and idler pulley. gm suggests letting vehicle idle 1+ minute after start before engaging gear; this sometimes works. dangerous and distracting to other motorists, as it appears to them like my vehicle is flashing its highbeams. *tr

I own a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer ls and the fuel gauge fluctuates and reads the tank is empty when in fact the tank is full of gas. thus this causes a serious safety hazard due to the fact that this is my main means of transportation for my family and i have to guess at how much fuel my vehicle actually has at any given time. this could result in me either running out of fuel and stall randomly and being rear-ended by another unsuspecting driver. *tr

I own a 2005 chevy trailblazer that is experiencing very sluggish acceleration, transmission is not shifting smoothly, and runs very loudly. i have researched this problem and found hundreds of complaints with other owners of this same year, make and model. *tr

I had just bought my 2005 chevy trailblazer lt. i bought it from a dealer used and they didn't tell me the gas gauge didn't work right. i have ran out of gas quite a few times.i try to remember to set my tripometer but sometimes i forget. needless to say its a huge problem. i have driven chevys all my life and so has my family, i am very disappointed gm has not taken care of this problem and had a recall. for what i paid and since i've always owned a chevy they need to get off their corporate butts and fix it!! this is a danger to the people who drive them as well as passengers and other vehicles on the road. i was hoping gm would voluntarily recall these vehicles, but they won't so its up to the nhtsa to make gm responsible. thank you *tr

I have been reporting this same problem for over 4 years to onstar and gm that i had issues with the headlights dimming upon stopping at going. i have called onstar and was told nothing was wrong with my suv. i have also saw a engine light flash, called onstar and nothing was showing wrong. today, my vehicle engine light and battery light came on and i was informed by onstart that the generator/alternator needs to be replaced. vehicle has 58k miles. *tr

I have a 2005 chevy trailblazer with 46,000 miles and the transmission, idler pulley, and water pump already had to be replaced. *tr

Just after purchasing the vehicle on december 29, 2008, i noticed the engine has accelerated and the car surges forward when stopped. if i do not keep my foot on the brake, there is a high potential of surging into the back of a vehicle in front of me. an accident has almost happened many times. i have had it looked at by the dealer i purchased the vehicle from on february 4,2009 and was told there is not a problem. it most likely will "not be a problem" until i rear end someone while stopped. this continues to happen on a regular basis, a year and a half later. i was not aware i had an opportunity to report until the toyota recall happened. i have been living with it, anticipating the surge every time i am at a stop. *tr

When i bought this vehicle 2 months ago, i thought the gas gauge was empty upon purchase, as it was a used car, but no it is the fuel system problem that everybody keeps mentioning. i fill the vehicle, and it only shows a half tank. then it will go to empty with the warning light coming on. as someone who travels a lot, and for long distances, this is a horrible defect. the exhaust manifold has become loud, which means another expense on a 2005 which shouldn't be happening. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the ignition switch failed in his vehicle and was replaced by the dealer. the resistance pig tail (wiring harness), the fuel pump module, and the clutch also failed; however, the dealer stated that the contact must pay for the repairs. the dealer stated that there were no recalls for the vehicle and it cannot be repaired for free. the failure mileage was 76,000. 4/01/09 *nj the water pump, pulley and serpentine belt was replaced. updated 04/09/09. *jb

My 2005 trailblazer with only 28,000 miles started whining loudly, the lights flicker & the heater turns itself on. a repair shop said it may need a new alternator. of course, chevy only put a 3 year warranty on it & this all started happening 1 month after the warranty expired. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. whenever the contact started the vehicle, she noticed that the exhaust system was very loud. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic shop and they stated that there was a crack in the exhaust manifold. the vehicle was also diagnosed by the dealer for the same failure. the contact did not notice any differences beforehand. the current mileage was 68,239 and failure mileage was 54,100.

I was involved in an automobile crash in my 2005 chevy trailblazer. upon impact, the car ignited under the hood and flames came up on the outside of the windshield while my family was still in the car. fortunately i was able to get my family out of the car before it was totally engulfed in flames and destroyed by fire. i contacted gm and asked why my car burned. i told them i was concerned about the safety of my family since members of my extended family own similar gm suvs. i answered numerous questions on the phone. i provided pictures of my car totally engulfed in flames. gm assigned a claim number to my request and engaged "esis gm" to evaluate the cause of the fire. after approximately 3 months, i received a short letter saying " there was no evidence that shows there is a product defect that caused the fire". it further said, "if you believe you have additional proofs showing there was a product defect (s) that you would like gm to look at, please submit them". they never answered my question of why the car burned. i had sent them pictures of the car engulfed in flames in the middle of the interstate. they just basically left it me to show proof of product defects and tell them why the car burned rather than answering my question. in fact, their response saying there were no know defects was like saying the trailblazer is designed to ignite and burn upon impact. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the ignition switch failed. the dealer replaced the ignition switch and stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system). in addition, the contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired for the exhaust manifold crack, the water pump, the evaporator cord, the headlight wiring harness (which melted and caused the light bulb to fail), the hub assembly, the instrument panel cluster, the motor blower resistor wires, and the door locks. the contact also stated that the rear windows would not open or close and the rear hatch lock system and instrument panel cluster failures persisted. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 83,875.

On 04/06 my wife was driving our 05 trailblazer that we have had about a year and the dealer already had to replace the engine, and now the brakes just went completely out without warning. it caused her to rear end another vehicle luckily no one was hurt. the dealer we bought it from refuses to work with us they told us they already put the new engine in it and they didn't have to do it. if they didn't have to do it then why did they keep it 2 months right after we bought it? i took it to a mechanic near where we live and he replaced the master cylinder for the brakes and they work fine now. the dealer said that it was out of warranty and we would have to pay 75 dollars for them to tell us what was wrong with it. this is the worst vehicle i have ever owned. as soon as you fix something, something else major goes wrong with it. you name it and i have probably had it worked on in this vehicle. i called the dealer and tried to work with them and just replace the vehicle with one i could put my wife and kids in without worry if something else is going to go wrong with it and someone gets really hurt or killed. i just need help trading this vehicle in so i can get a reliable form of transportation for my family. just want the dealer to work with me and cancel this loan out and i will gladly buy another vehicle. *jb

In march 2007 the check engine light came on and stayed on . i took vehicle to dealer to have it checked out. it turned out to be the secondary air pump either clogged, not running or something electrical with it. ever since then all the exterior and interior lights became bright then dimmed for a few minutes when i start the vehicle. after leaving for work and stopping the vehicle to turn, and then again a few miles down the road, the headlamps started to flicker. sometimes it flickered a few more times before i got to work , only 25 minutes from home. i have noticed the battery gauge fluctuated while this is happened. i was told that this was normal. also, i am not sure this was related, but ever since the check engine"light problem the air conditioning system did not work properly. it didn't work on 5, but it did blow some on the other levels, and that varied too. i have had the air conditioning recharged, to no avail, it acted like there was a leak somewhere. hopefully ,gm or someone else will find the solution before there was an electrical fire or even a case of road rage due to other drivers thinking i wa s flashing the bright lights at them. *ak

Tl*the contact own 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the air bag warning indicator light illuminated. the dealer stated that the passenger side air bag suppression module burned and they replaced the module. the vehicle was towed to the dealer because it would not start. the power train control module was replaced and after the contact filled the gas tank. the engine idled after the she started the vehicle and the check engine warning light was illuminated. the cause of the failure was unknown and no repairs were made. the failure mileage was 13,000 and current mileage was 44,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the fuel gauge on the instrument control panel inaccurately displays the vehicles fuel level. the vehicle was taken to the dealership and the fuel tank level system was repaired. the repair did not remedy the failure. the current mileage was 80000. the failure mileage was 33000. updated 12/7/09 *cn the consumer stated after the tank was filled with the gas, there was still a ringing sound as if there was no gas in the vehicle. the fuel gauge would drop even when the tank was full. the water pump and fan clutch was replaced. updated 12/08/09

I bought my 2005 trailblazer the same year with 19+k miles. i started having it stall on me around 30k miles. i took it to hayward, ca chevy dealership because it was still under warranty. they said that they found nothing. i took in again because the engine light came up and they said the problem was the light only but, that's the light that would flash when it stalls. i took the car back in several times for the same situation. at the time, i had 2 boys.....8yrs and 6yrs and this started too become unreliable because i was putting them at risk and not only that, i would stall and then take a few minutes to start again. i've been told that maybe it stalls because the engine was not warm but i know that it can't be it because a few times i was on long road trips and the engine would stall on and off. this has been an ongoing problem since 06 and it's a horrible risk because it's stalls while driving. my kids and i can get hit from behind. i don't know who else to repost this too. i bought another car 5/07 because this vehicle is not reliable but use it when i have to and up to this day, it still stalls. *tr

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. it was maneuvered off the road and restarted. this had happened four times and the dealer replaced the w module and two spark plugs, cleaned the throttle plate and repaired a ground wire. the problem recurred and the dealer could not duplicate the problem.

All of a sudden the transmission started to shift funny after a long road trip. it did this once on the highway. we got off the highway and pulled into our town and the car was having problems shifting. we barely made it to our house and the transmission was leaking. we went to drive it to the dealership and it over heated less than a mile from the house. we were told that the radiator deteriorated and sent anti-freeze into the transmission which destroyed the transmission. *jb

Engine warning light flashes occasionally. this has been happening with this particular vehicle since i purchased the vehicle. repeated visits to the local dealerships have resulted in no repair. the vehicle experienced total engine failure to which the dealership stated it was a cooling fan. even upon replacing this fan, the light continues to flash on/off. at one point the light stayed on to which onstar reported an engine cooling/ac issue. this warning was reported to the dealership, they stated the problem was fixed but the light will continue to flash every couple of days. this is abnormal and has been addressed multiple times but nothing has been done to fix the issue. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph, the engine stalled without any warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle restarted after several attempts. the failure occurred sporadically. in addition, the headlights unintendedly failed to illuminate when activated on twenty separate occasions. the vehicle had been taken to an authorized dealer eights times for the same failures. the alternator was replaced three times and the failure continued to occur. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 300. sm.

I have had my water pump replaced twice in that last 1.5 years. the first time was covered under warranty but the next time about 10 month the dealership claim it didn't work again. just today 12/12 i went to drive to work after letting my car warm up for 5 minutes i decided to turn the heat on and nothing came out now i have to call and see if anyone can look my auto. worse brand new auto that i have had. *tr

When i brought this car it started to give me problems. what type of problems you ask problems with the motor and injections. i called many times to the dealership i talked to a guy named henry palacios and he never gave me a solution to my problem. i had full cover on my vehicle but they told me that it didn't cover the problems that my car had. the same date that i brought the vehicle i went out of town and the car completely stop in the middle of the street. *nm

Dt: the consumer states that the tail pipe is to sharp on the 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the consumer'sson had fell and slid under the truck and cut his leg on the tail pipe. he had 18 stitches in his leg. the consumer has not contacted gm about the design of the tail pipe. the dealership has been contacted , and they told him to look in the back of the owner's manual and call them.*ak

My chevy trailblazer 2005 has been giving me problems not much after of leasing the suv on 3/25/05. not sure what day was when i got into the accident in august but it was cause do to the brakes. when backing up, i hit into my brother's truck and i couldn't stop so i kept on smashing more into my brother's truck. not lately i am having eletrical problems too. my engine light comes on and when it does the whole suv shakes badly. don't understand why all of these problems are happening. i just want to get out of this lease and live! *nm

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the vehicle surged forward approximately four feet while in the idle position. the dealer inspected the vehicle four times and was unable to duplicate and diagnose the failure. the manufacturer informed the dealer to reprogram the computer. the computer was reprogrammed, but the failure still persisted. the current mileage is 37,000 and failure mileage was 900.
