We have classified the 429 complaints from 2005 Chevrolet TrailBlazer about FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE into the following categories.
The fuel gauge says its empty but i have gas. my engine light comes on every time i start the car. *tr
My 2005 chevrolet trailblazer ext. fuel sensor quit working at 32,000 miles. i have called and it is around $600 to fix. i do believe that this is a safety hazard because the fuel gauge sometimes reads all the way full or all the way empty or sometimes 1/4 tank and this could lead to me running out of gas at worst times. if i ran out of gas on the interstate or highway it could cause a major accident and result in a fatality or injuries. i did not know i could report such problems that's why i am doing it now instead of when it actually happened. *tr
Just want to address the gas gauge and speedometer issues. i have a 05 trailblazer and had both of these problems. fortunately i work with a great dealership and i purchased the extended warranty because gm would do nothing and the fixes are very expensive. you can live with the gas gauge not reading correctly by tracking your mileage but the stupid bell goes off all the time telling you your near empty but you cannot drive safely if you do not know how fast you are going and you certainly cannot go with the flow as everyone seems to drive faster than allowed and i do not think the officer who pulls you over will care if your speedometer does not work. i also notice that my interior panel lights will flash off and back on again, makes me think i am seeing things. i think gm needs to find answers and fix these problems. i love my tb but it just seems like a lemon and i will look at something different when i purchase again. *tr
At about 60,000 miles i noticed fuel gauge registered empty when i should have had 3/4 of tank, from then on it would register after the car was driven for 10-15 mins, now nothing it stays on empty or rarely it will register less then a 1/4 tank and when it registers empty the dinging goes off every 5 mins telling me i need fuel. asked dealer and was told i should live with it that it as a very expensive fix. what is that, i travel alot and into areas where there may be no stations for a long distance and in very remote areas. this should not be normal wear and should be covered under warranty, why else would i pay for the extended warranty??? *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the fuel indicator failed and he was unable to determine how much fuel was actually in the vehicle. the dealer informed the contact that the fuel sending unit was faulty and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer agreed to cover fifty percent of the repair costs however, the contact believed that they should cover the total cost. no repairs were performed. the current mileage was 119,000. the approximate failure mileage was 45,000.
The gas gauge starts out erratic then will completely stop working and you never know how much gas is in your tank when you just filled it full. vehicle will die for no reason in traffic and at times the headlights dim and volt meter drops randomly while driving. when you look at http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2005/chevrolet/trailblazer you see that this a common problem with the 2005. it needs to be addressed before there are deaths. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact noticed the fuel gauge stopped functioning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where a technician stated the fuel assembly inside the fuel tank needed to be replaced. there was an open investigation, nhtsa action number dp10001(fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump). the contact stated the speedometer also stopped functioning after the fuel gauge failed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the speedometer was repaired. the fuel gauge was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 38,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trail blazer. the contact stated that the fuel level gauge indicated that there was one quarter gasoline in the fuel tank yet the vehicle stalled due to there being no fuel in the vehicle. the dealer advised that the fuel sensor and fuel pump would need replacing. the dealer did not perform a diagnostic but advised that the failure was common and was aware of exactly what would remedy the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage 80,000.
The fuel gage on my 2005 trailblazer ls with the 6 cylinder engine, started malfunctioning back in march or april of 2008. the warranty was up on the vehicle and when i checked the price of a new sending unit i found it to be around $350.00, not including installation. i have not had the problem corrected because of the cost of a new unit. i was told to try adding some fuel system cleaner that is poured into the gas tank, but after three applications i gave up. i read about other trailblazer owners having similar problems and the dot was looking into the problem and i wanted to add my name to that list of trailblazer owners affected by this problem.
Fuel gauge inoperative. even with a full tank, the gauge remains on empty most of the time. occasionally, the gauge will rise to 1/4 and stay there for 40-50 miles then return to empty. *tr
My speedometer does not work at all. the heater and a/c don't work. my fuel gauge does not work. the interior lights inside my car do not work, the right front passenger window does not work. basically my entire dashboard does not work. what did chevy do about it?? sent me a letter stating they are willing to pay half of the cost to repair the fuel gage but it would have to be fixed at a chevy dealership. i could get the same thing fixed at my mechanic and pay the full amount and it would still cost me less than having the dealership fix it and chevy paying half the costs. don't think i will be buying another chevy anytime soon. *tr
The gas gauge on my 2005 trailblazer is defective. the gauge began to malfunction about one year ago. when i fill the tank, the gauge drops to empty. it then floats around and i never know how much gas i actually have. i have to use my trip meter to know when i need to fill up. this is a dangerous and worrisome thing to deal with. i would hate to run out of gas on the interstate by myself. i have researched this on the internet and apparently this is a widespread problem. *tr
I own a 2005 chevy trailblazer and i have encountered numerous problems since purchasing this vehicle brand new from the dealer. i have had to have sensors replaced, fuel tank has had to be worked on, and now the main most costly is i am having to replace the transmission. this vehicle has approx. 84,000k miles on it and is only two years old. please help to see if this should have been a factory recall. i have always had my vehicle serviced at the dealer where i purchased it at. *tr
Hi union boilermaker, new 2005 chevy, 2 computers gm undersized thanks gm ,, paid 558.00 to fix fuel gauge, sensor shot... *tr
Replace faulty fuel level sensor. *kb
The fuel hand has quit working, it has not worked since october of 2007, and it is to expensive to fix it and i know of three other peoples who's vehicles are doing the same thing and they are the same year model as mine although some are gmcs envoys and some are chevy trailblazers. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trail blazer. the contact stated that the fuel level gauge would continuously read inaccurate fuel levels causing the vehicle to stall intermittently without warning. the failure would occur even when the fuel tank was full with gasoline. the dealer advised that the fuel pump would need replacing. the fuel pump was replaced three times to no avail. the vehicle was not further repaired. the failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 120,000. updated 12/01/10. *lj updated 12/07/10
The gas gauge in my 2005 chevy trailblazer is always reading empty. i have to gauge my gas tank by resetting my trip odometer. all the time. i have heard that it bad part - the fuel sensor on all chevy cars 2003 - 2006. there should be a recall by gm on this fuel sensor. *tr
Fuel gauge sensor on a 2005 trailblazer has gone out, fuel gauge reads empty at all time. this could potentially cause a serious accident especially if the vehicle were to run low on fuel at highway speeds and be hit by another car from behind. even more dangerous for those who may be using the vehicle to travel somewhere for medical attention. this is a known problem among gm vehicles and yet they have issued no recall as of yet. there is a website here; http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/chevrolet-trailblazer/tbdhfg6khcmspa4m1/p10 with over 200 trailblazer owners with the identical problem and i'm sure there are many many many more. *tr

I have a 2005 chevy trailblazer that has a defective fuel sending unit. the vehicle will not display fuel level. my research shows that this is a common problem with the chevy trailblazer/gmc envoy. the defect if left unrepaired can lead to stalling during operation and lead to vehicle crashes and or death or serious injury. *tr
I noticed a majority of the complaints about the 2005 trailblazer's fuel tank level sensor. i have contacted gmc several times concerning the defective item. i have sent the v.p of chevrolet as well as ceo / president of gmc expressing my concerns and how this is a safety issue, although gmc think otherwise. it's just a matter of time before an individual or an entire family is seriously injured or killed because of the faulty sensor. *tr the consumer stated the fuel gauge gave inaccurate readings. one minute the tank was full and would read full, then it would read 1/2 tank; empty or 1/4 tank. and eventually the gauge read empty although that tank was full. updated 05/04/10. *jb
My car has shut down while idling at a stop sign or red light. the first time was in 2006, but has happened several times since then. i've taken it to the dealership, but they said that they couldn't see anything wrong with my vehicle. i believe that my fuel gauge is inaccurate. it showed empty, and, then 1/4 tank. the rear wiper sweeps without being turned on. *tr
Headlights dim intermittently, heat looses power at the same time, now getting flickering of interior lights. wasn't able to fix it. bumper warping. getting 10 miles to the gallon! paint on buttons wearing on radio. sun roof leaked profusely, had it fixed. rear window defogger doesn't work. head liner sagged. *tr
2005 chevy trailblazer gas light constantly on and showing empty. replacement will be between 700-1000 dollars for the fix. must use mileage to gauge when i need fuel. this has been this way since 2006. this seems to be a huge problem with this vehicle. thankfully, i have not had an accident or been rear-ended, but this needs to be investigated and fixed by chevy. *tr
Multiple gauges on the instrument panel stopped working. they include: fuel gauge, speedometer, voltmeter, and tachometer. the first to go out was the fuel gauge. then speedometer, followed by the voltmeter and the tachometer about the same time. chevy has fixed the fuel gauge issue by recall. but has not addressed the other gauges on the instrument panel. *tr
When i brought this car it started to give me problems. what type of problems you ask problems with the motor and injections. i called many times to the dealership i talked to a guy named henry palacios and he never gave me a solution to my problem. i had full cover on my vehicle but they told me that it didn't cover the problems that my car had. the same date that i brought the vehicle i went out of town and the car completely stop in the middle of the street. *nm
2005 chevrolet trailblazer gas gauge is showing incorrect readings. when the tank is filled, it will read empty and the warning light/signal comes on. the gauge will then read incorrectly and go back and forth from empty to about a quarter of a tank full. i never know for sure how much full i have in the tank after i fill it. i must go on mileage. this is a great safety concern. *tr
23sep10 1715 pdt my wife was driving to work on a highway when low fuel light went on. she had literally just filled the vehicle with gasoline. i had her exit off highway to sidestreet and call for a tow. i told her not to continue driving because it could be the fuel pump. i then looked online to find any reports of this. i found it to be the second most reported problem with the vehicle. we had just purchased this vehicle used a few days before. so we have no history with the vehicle. this occurred once. i did notice the light on once the morning of the same day. i plan to have it towed to and repaired at a trusted local mechanic. online the estimated cost for repair is $550. *tr
After filling my gas tank, the gas gauge needle dropped past "e". it recovered somewhat and a few days later, back to "e". the needle only sometimes moves past "e", even when full, and never goes more that the 1/4 mark. i've unknowingly run out of gas twice. first occasion i was on a dark roadside but had someone nearby to help. the most recent occasion i was on a highway, stalled partially in traffic. it was 5 degrees outside and the closest roadside assistance provider was over an hour away. *tr
