We have classified the 429 complaints from 2005 Chevrolet TrailBlazer about FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE into the following categories.
2005 chevy trailblazer running out of gas. our trailblazer has run out of gas twice and the fuel gauge is in-op. *tr
I filled up my chevy with a full tank of gas when it had about 1/4 of a tank left. i got in the car and it still said i had 1/4 of a tank. i pulled over after driving about 5 minutes and shut off the car, turned it back on, and now it was showing empty. sometimes out of nowhere it will show me at about just above empty, even if i have just filled up, but it has only done this a few times. it stays on empty with the fuel light on and i never know how much gas i have. i keep track on my trip-o-meter to make sure i have enough gas but have ran out of gas even though i keep track. *tr
I purchased a 2005 chevy trailblazer in march 2005, since than the following items has been replaced, just to name a few: fuel tank level sensor (33,104 miles), ho@ sensor shorted (20,205 miles), bearing in idler pulley (25,233 miles), idler pulley bearing failure (47,500 miles), internal clutch circuit (33,896 miles), fuel cap replaced three times, replaced water pump (63,911 miles), air pump relay (77,000 miles). the 'light unit' has been replaced, i was driving and the lights on the radio, doors and other items went out. the vehicle currently has 80,000 miles and i have to replace the fuel tank level sensor again. i have been attempting to get gmc to recall the vehicles, because of the danger involved with the sensor unit sending the wrong signal, meaning the tank could be within a half of a gallon from being empty, but the fuel gauge is reading full. it appears that gm is waiting for multiple deaths to occur before they consider this as being an item that could cause the death of several motorists. *tr
Erratic fuel gauge, reports no fuel even when fuel available, reports 1/4 tank of fuel available and no fuel may be available or i may have just filled the tank; also reports no fuel or low fuel when tank has been filled. vehicle has stalled out and would not start; was out of fuel but gauge indicated 1/4 tank of fuel. oil gauge has also become erratic; and goes from showing no oil pressure to low oil pressure to very high pressure. have to pull over immediately and check oil level at side of road or where ever available to do so at time. not always safe area to pull off. both issues create very hazardous and dangerous situations for the driver and passengers in the vehicle.
Fuel gage shows full at times and empty at times. hard to tell amount of gas in tank all the time. problem started at 41,000 miles. 2005 gmc trailblazer. *tr
I have a 2005 chevorlet trailblazer. i have had both speedometer and gas gauge quit working on me. have been told it will be around $500 each to be fixed! i feel that this is a safety hazard and should be a recall by gm. 2005 models have the worse overall rating with these 2 malfunctions be the top 2 complaints!*cw
Intermittent false readings of fuel level may cause driver to run out of fuel in traffic. internet search indicates this is s chronic problem with this vehicle caused by a defective fuel level sensor. dealer has confirmed the problem but stated there is no recall. *tr
I have a 2005 chevy trailblazer ls and i have two complaints regarding part defects that should be investigated. 1. the speedometer sticks. i can be driving along and all of a sudden my speedometer is not moving at all. this is extremely dangerous being that i have no clue how fast or slow i'm going. 2. the fuel light gauge/sensor just completed stop working. the gas needle does not move at all, i have no idea how much fuel is in the tank. this is also extremely dangerous!. i have many friends that own chevy trailblazers who have encountered these same issues and i feel that chevy should fix the problem. i have also read many blogs online where trailblazer owners are complaining of the same issues so this is clearly a problem for thousands of trailblazer owners. i hope that this complaint will help jump start an investigation of these defects, because it is a major problem! i have contacted my local chevy dealer and they stated that it will be $1,200 to fix this issue.. this is outrages being that the problem is something that was caused by chevy. *tr
When my mileage on my 2005 chevy trailblazer was approximately 50,000, the fuel gauge suddenly stopped working and reads that there is an empty tank despite being filled to capacity. from my understanding, this is a systemic fault with the fuel sending unit in the 2005-06 chevy trailblazer models that has the potential of putting consumers at great risk due to the potential of running out of gas on expressways, highways, etc. and, as a result of an unexpected loss of mobility, being unnecessarily subject to imminent personal harm from other vehicles. i have lodged a personal complaint with gm and understand that they are aware of this defect in the fuel sending unit as being a system problem, but have failed to issue any voluntary recall of the part. due to the individual cost of approximately $800 for a consumer to procure this repair (which almost always seems to occur when these vehicles have surpassed 40,000 miles and are therefore outside of the warranty period), i believe it is very likely that a sufficient number of those consumers affected by this part failure, especially in the current economic climate, will be financially unable to afford the cost of repairing this defective part on their own and will, accordingly, be subject to unnecessary and substantial risk given the potential for them to find their vehicles out of gas without any warning whatsoever. moreover, the potential for collisions due to the sudden deceleration or stranded vehicles on the roadways also poses a substantial threat to other drivers that is entirely unnecessary and extremely dangerous. *kb
The fuel gauge on my 2005 trailblazer stopped reading correctly and has stopped working completely. i use the trip mileage to determine how much fuel i have in my tank. i have run out of gas several times since them because this is not the most accurate method. i have read on several chevy forums that this is a common occurrence on the trailblazer yet gm refuses to issue a recall on the faulty product. what else can be done aside from filing more complaints??? *kb
Fuel sensor on 2005 chevy trailblazer going out for the past year. if vehicle was filled, it would go down to empty after several minutes then over the course of about 20 minutes go to the correct spot. recently it just doesn't give you any clue as to the amount of fuel in the tank. there are pages and pages of people with the same complaints online, so it's not just my vehicle. this is a major safety issue if there are lots of 2005 chevy trailblazers on the road without knowledge of how much fuel is in their cars. please look into this, because chevy sure isn't! *tr
My fuel gauge is not working on my 2005 trailblazer and the blower resistor went on my truck as well. it went from no heat blowing on level 5 to the entire thing not working. *tr
I have a 2005 chevy trailblazer. about a year ago the gas gauge quit working. my understanding was that it would cost almost as much to replace the sensor as it would to replace the fuel pump. i continued driving the car using the trip mileage. i have run out of gas several times. the last couple of times i realized there was no way i could be out of gas yet. what is now happening is i cannot get more than a couple of gallons of gas in my car at any time. the mechanic says it is because the sensor is stuck and thinks it is fuller than it is. so now i cannot drive more than 20 miles or so before stopping for gas again. please do something about this!!!!! *tr
The gasoline gauge would not read accurately. if we filled up our gas tank, the gauge would read empty. we never really knew how much gasoline we had in the tank. we had the fuel level sensor replaced on 9/02/09. this was a very costly repair. we feel that gm should do a recall on this part and we should be reimbursed for our expenses.
The fuel gauge is inaccurate. the fuel gauge will read empty, even after the gas tank is full of gas. the fuel gauge will also jump to 1/4 of a tank and then immediately back to empty.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the fuel level gauge had been inoperable for approximately two years. the vehicle had not been inspected or repaired for the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 35,000 and the current mileage was 50,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle stalled. in addition, the contact stated that the fuel gauge provided a permanent reading of empty. there was an investigation under nhtsa action number: dp10001 (fuel system, other:storage:fuel gauge system) that could have been related to the failure. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostics where the mechanic stated that the fuel sensor would have to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 75,000.
2005-2006 chevy trailblazer experiencing problem w/ the fuel sensor. when the gas tank is filled the car is telling me there is no fuel in the tank, and the gauge reads empty. *tr
Gas gauge did not work. noted from television report that 2005 trailblazers had problem with gas tank and gauge. the gauge on my vehicle had not worked for sometime. finally had it repaired. *tr
My fuel gauge does not work and has not for about two years. i read that there has been many complaints to your organization regarding this problem. have not fixed because the cost was over $400. *kb
Fuel gauge/sensor defective. gauge show empty most of the time even when full. light smell of gasoline. *tr
Have a 2005 trailblazer with 60,000, gas gauge quit working, now the fuel sensor shuts the car down randomly thinking it is out of gas, my girlfriend and our 2 year old were stranded on 3 separate occasions , have no choice but to repair it at a cost of 6-700$ , worried that it is going to happen again as they have not fixed the part that was bad. *tr
My 2005 chevy trailblazer has a problem with the fuel gauge sensor not working. it started about a month ago with the vehicle having 49,000 miles on it. the gas needle started acting crazy, bouncing all over, now it just shows empty. i think there should be a recall on this problem, it shouldn't cost me $600 to fix this problem for a sensor. *tr
On 7/18/09 i fueled up my truck with gas and the fuel gauge, which was working at the time quit working. i believe this could be a safety issue due to people depending on their vehicles for day to day live, plus the way the price of gas is people can't always afford to stop and put gas in the vehicle. after searching the internet i have found numerous complaints on this very issue. please check into this matter because the price of vehicles nowadays is way out of range for the working class people. *tr
I have a 2005 chevy trailblazer. my fuel gauge no longer works. the only way i can track how much gas i have is by keeping up with my mileage. when i took it to my local dealer i was told that this was a very common problem in trailblazers and that it would cost $500-$600 to repair. when i did a quick search online i found hundreds and hundreds of other trailblazer owners with the same complaint! i believe this is a safety issue and want to know why this wasn't a recall! i got no assistance from the general motors and was only told to "go through my dealer."
I have a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer ls 4wd and just recently have been having problems with the gas gauge not registering correctly. come to find out that this is not a new problem with gm vehicles and it is the fuel level sensor in the gas tank that is bad. gm does not seem to want to do a recall so i would like to make a complaint and see what can to done to get this fixed without having to spend alot of out of pocket cost. *tr
Everytime i fill my gas tank, the fuel gauge light and sensor show that my tank is empty. i have read over 250 posts at http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/chevrolet-trailblazer/th8ji6tepo3vrji3d stating the same problem. after going to my mechanic, i'm told this will need a new fuel pump / kit......which will range from $800-$1000 installed. *tr
Please look into the fuel gauge problem with the o5 and up chevy trailblazers. the dealers and gm will not repair and the part is on national back order because everyone is having the same problem with this. the gas gauge starts out erratic then will completely stop working and you never know how much gas is in your tank. the cost of this part when it is available is around 800 dollars. i would understand if it was every few vehicles but its all the trail blazers and like i said there are so many problems with this that the part is on back order the people who have received replacements have said it is already broke again. this is ridiculous. american tax payers bailed them out please help all of us with this concern my truck has died 2 times in the middle of traffic because the gauge is not working and can not get the part to repair. there are many more like me. what a waste of money i earned fighting in iraq for my country!!!!!!!!! here are a few other complaints at the following links http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/chevrolet-trailblazer/th8ji6tepo3vrji3d. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. since july 5, 2009, the fuel gauge dial fails to display the correct amount of gasoline in the tank. the contact feels that this is a safety issue because fuel began to leak out. in addition, the tank could be empty, but the fuel gauge would display a full tank. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 70,000.
[xxx] of chicago, il, petitioned the agency in a letter dated november 27, 2009. the petitioner requests that nhtsa open an investigation into the performance/reliability of the fuel level sensor installed in model year 2005 chevrolet trailblazer vehicles. the petitioner alleges that the fuel tank level sensor is defective and could result in a subject vehicle running out of fuel, stall, and being rear ended by another vehicle. odi will evaluate the petition for a grant or deny decision. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
My chevrolet trailblazer ran out of gas because the gas gauge does not work properly. i was stuck in the middle of the road with no fuel and no a/c in 95 degree temperatures. *tr
I am having a problem with my fuel gauge or fuel pump. june 15-24 2009 i was putting gas into my vehicle every day because it was reading that my tank was empty. on june 24, i completely filled up my tank and the light remained on as if my tank was empty. the light remained on until the next day. as i was driving to work, the gauge moved up showing that i only had a 1/4 of a tank of gas. my gauge is giving me a false reading of the amount of gas i have in my tank and i now have to depend on the miles per trip to make sure i don't run out of gas. *tr
2005 chevrolet trailblazer suv fuel level sensor failed causing erratic fuel gauge operation. gas light comes on when filled up .looked on internet and hundreds of people have the same problems.how many people will died from this safety failure?
Fuel gauge has stopped working on my 2005 trailblazer - can only guess how much fuel i have left by using the trip odometer or checking my mileage. this is a complete (not to mention risky) pain in the butt. hundreds of us have complained to gm.. they take no action except to say "we are sorry." what the heck? why should a known and reported defect in a vehicle not warrant attention by the manufacturer? what if one of the hundreds of us miscalculated our mileage use, running out of gas on a busy highway, and we cause an accident because gm wouldn't help the consumers fix the problem!?!? *tr
Gas gauge reads empty regardless of actual fuel level. it started out as an intermittent, and periodic event. it then would dependably happen immediately after fill-up at the pump. now, it is continuous. *tr
Fuel level sensor has failed resulted in inaccurate fuel level readings. fuel tank sensor is currently inoperative. potential for engine stalling and rear-end collisions. *tr
When filling the fuel tank the fuel sensor went out and has stayed out. when i look on the internet i found that it is a very common problem. *tr
The fuel gauge went to empty about 3 months ago when i came out of the gas station after paying for the gas and filling up the tank. it was all of a sudden with that tank of gas, there were no signs of this previously. it always goes to empty when i fill the tank and the low level light comes on and stays on for about 50 miles then it goes to full and after another 100 miles or so goes back to empty when i know that it's not close to being empty. i find this being a safety concern if i were to run out of fuel with my family in the car on the freeway with no where to go. i have not replaced the fuel level sensor yet but i am planning on fixing gm's faulty product in the next couple weeks. i have also read a few consumer reports and this is a very common problem with these trailblazers. it would be nice for gm to recall this. *tr
Fuel gauge failure. gauge did not indict fuel level on many occasions, finally failing completely during summer 2009. can cause real problems if unaware gauge is not working properly and vehicle were to run out of fuel in high traffic situation such as on the freeway. have contacted manufacturer to no avail. *tr
Fuel gauge does not work accurately. shows fuel when its empty . the gauge never shows full when tank is filled to capacity. parts have been replaced and old parts are still on hand. *tr
The speedometer has stopped working. the gas gauge does not work. also the fuses for the power plug ins continue to blow. these are safety hazards for my wife and kids while traveling alone.
I had just bought my 2005 chevy trailblazer lt. i bought it from a dealer used and they didn't tell me the gas gauge didn't work right. i have ran out of gas quite a few times.i try to remember to set my tripometer but sometimes i forget. needless to say its a huge problem. i have driven chevys all my life and so has my family, i am very disappointed gm has not taken care of this problem and had a recall. for what i paid and since i've always owned a chevy they need to get off their corporate butts and fix it!! this is a danger to the people who drive them as well as passengers and other vehicles on the road. i was hoping gm would voluntarily recall these vehicles, but they won't so its up to the nhtsa to make gm responsible. thank you *tr
I have a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer with 80,000 miles. and the fuel gauge does not operate. it went out around 50,000 miles. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. while refueling the vehicle, the contact noticed that the empty fuel warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact stated that the fuel gauge reading was inaccurate and would fluctuate sporadically. the vehicle was taken to two different independent mechanics. the mechanic stated that the entire instrument panel would need to be replaced. also, the contact stated that the speedometer reading would also fluctuate intermittently and provide inaccurate readings. there was a concurrent investigation for the failure under nhtsa action number: dp10001 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump) that the contact believed could have been related to the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was unavailable. the approximate failure mileage was 58,000.
Shortly after the manufacturer's warranty expired, the fuel level sensor of my 2005 chevy trailblazer stopped working properly. the gas gage reads empty even when the tank is full. it occasionally moves from empty to 1/4 tank, 1/2 tank, then back to empty again. i was advised by the dealer that it would cost approximately $500 to fix. i never know exactly how much fuel is in the tank, so i find myself going to the gas station almost every other day. i have been stranded on side of the highway a few times (thank goodness for roadside assistance). however, it is very disheartening to know that this is a common problem with this vehicle and nothing is being done to ensure that gm is being held accountable for the quality of their parts. *tr
I have a 2005 chevy trailblazer. i recently started having problems with the fuel gauge. it will show the tank is empty, even after filling it. i researched it online to see if others have this problem and have found many complaints about it. chevy says it's a problem with the sensor and has a repair kit for it, but charges over $500 for the kit plus labor. i along with many others use this vehicle to transport my children around, including my son with special needs to his monthly appointments at the children's hospital 200+ miles away. i myself have never run out of gas as this problem has just started in my car, but i know others who have. something needs to be done because people are running out of fuel (others have complained that this problem unresolved leads to the trip meter and speedometer to stop working also) and causing accidents & injuries. we trailblazer owners are hoping that enough complaints from owners and a little pressure from the nhtsa will cause chevy to do something about this problem!! please help us!! on average this problem seems to crop up around 60,000 miles. *tr
My gas gauge read 1/4 of a tank and i went to the gas station to fill up and 2 hours after i filled up the gas light came on. i stopped to put more gas in thinking that maybe i stopped it too early and it wasn't full. i started driving and the gas light came on. so now my gas gauge doesn't work at all and i have to rely on my miles per trip to figure out when to fill up. *tr
My trail blazer check engine light stays on we cannot reset it. the full gauge says it has more gas then what it does, i have to guess to avoid running our of gas. speedometer stops working then it fixes its self. the radio and lights sometimes stay on, and kills my battery. *tr
Fuel level sensor reads always as empty. no matter the real level is. *tr
In the beginning the speedometer would go all the way to highest speed immediately upon cranking vehicle. after a few months or quit working all together. the gas gage quit working a few months after that. then again a few months later all other gauges quit working except rpm gage. that is only functioning gage on instrument panel. *tr
