2005 chevy trailblazer fuel gauge is defective. i fill up my tank and it still says empty. *tr

I have a 2005 chevy trailblazer and the fuel gauge does not work. for a brief period after fill ups, it would stick on empty and a chime would ding. eventually it would start to work. however, now it is completely not functioning. this creates a huge safety concern as one never knows the fuel level of the vehicle. i have done extensive search on the internet and this is a common problem in many chevy trailblazers. a local dealer said that it was a sensor and could cost between 800-1200 dollars. i think a recall is order since this is such a common problem. a simple google search "2005 chevy trailblazer fuel gauge problem" is sufficient evidence to conclude that gm should recall this part. *tr

I have had my trailblazer sine 2008 the gas gauge stopped working around 58,000 miles and now sounds like the car is winding up every time the car is started. *tr

I own a 2005 chevy trailblazer, the gas gauge no longer works after 45,000 miles. it is stuck on empty even after filling the tank. once in awhile it moves up but never to show the correct amount of fuel in the tank. *tt

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the fuel gauge would fluctuate between fuel levels, even with a full tank of gas. the failure would cause the vehicle to stall sporadically without warning. the dealer advised the contact that because the vehicle was no longer under warranty, they were unable to assist. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who diagnosed a faulty fuel sensor, which was replaced. in addition, the dealer replaced the float and fuel tank yet the failure was not corrected and persisted intermittently. the current mileage was 84,562 and the failure mileage was 78,000.

I have a 2005 chevy trailblazer. the gas gauge quick working almost a year and half ago. originally, i would fill up the tank and it would read only 1/2 tank. over time, it read all different readings from full when empty to 1/3 tank when full. for the past six months or so, it has remained on empty with the gas light on and dings occasionally flashing low fuel - even though i just filled up. i have learned to go by mileage to prevent running out of gas but this is very much an inconvenience for something that is a manufacturer defect. i fear running out of gas or having an accident related to running out of gas so i keep my tank as full as possible and fill up frequently. i have not had repaired due financial restraints but have recently been reading about the numerous complaints of the same issue. i would like to report this official complaint to add to your investigation. *tr

Vehicle ran out of fuel, when fuel gauge read 1/4 tank full. incident was at an interchange of i-485 in daylight hours in charlotte n.c.

My 2005 trailblazer has a problem with the fuel tank level sensor. when i fill it sometimes it says there is gas other times it bounces all over the place. i have owned many cars before & this has never happened with only 40,000 miles on the car. this is a safety issue. i ran out of gas on the street when it occurred. myself or anyone could have been on the freeway when it happens. please take a look into this it seems to be common place for these vehicles. *tr

Purchased a 2005 trailblazer after trading in a 2001 blazer. i have never had any problems with chevrolet until this upgrade. not long after the purchase i started running out of fuel and the car would stall in the middle of the road. in my opinion the stalling gets serious when you live in a large city and traffic moves fast. it is also very difficult to make it off the road when you do not know you have a problem like this as well. it wasn't until i began tracking my mileage and having it inspected that i found it was the fuel sensor. roughly it will cost about 700 dollars to fix. i am still, at this point, tracking my mileage which is a headache in itself. i have spoke with the dealership more than once and they made it clear that this is a very common issue with this vehicle and that is also my problem. i will be rethinking my next vehicle and my husbands as well since he owns a 2003 impala.

I was putting gas in my 2005 chevy trailblazer.. when i left the gas station the empty light stayed on.... now it is stuck on empty. *tr

On 3-18-2010 we purchased a 2005 chevy trailblazer from a dealership. upon driving it home, we noticed the gas gauge was almost to empty. within a few miles the gas light came on. we stopped and got gas but the tank was not empty. the gas gauge continues to "bounce" around from full to empty many times during regular driving. this obviously needs to be a recall and stop letting consumers pay $600-$1000 to fix a problem with the part.

Fuel gauge in 2005 chevrolet trailblazer 4dr2wd started reading erratically including full on empty tank and finally permanently pegged on empty regardless of tank status. fuel indicator light is permanently on and sounds an alarm at random. this has caused me to run on out fuel on at least 3 occasions, car has stalled on freeway once and is very discomforting to operate in remote areas or on freeways. *tr

I've had my 2005 trailblazer for 5 yrs now and the last 4 months the fuel gauge has been acting up. i fill it up and the gauge still reads empty. it takes a few days to finally get the reading right but after a day or so it goes back to empty. being in the military and having the vehicle as the primary for my wife and kids time is limited for her to take it while i am away overseas. my wife was and kids were stranded on the highway while roadside assistance came to finally came around with fuel. reading numerous complaints about the same problem with other chevy owners there should be a recall on the vehicle. this will be my last time purchasing a chevy. keeping track of mileage is ridiculous, in today's economy purchasing a good product is priority one and it is a shame that a giant car company can admit that they have a problem on there hands. safety should be priority one!!!!! *tr

Fuel level sensor sticks at empty or just around 1/4 of a tank then falls back to empty and light comes on. have researched and this seems to be a highly prevalent issue on '05 trailblazers at around 50k miles. *tr

The fuel gauge went out in my vehicle. my speedometer is doing the same thing and my oil gauge. how is that not a safety recall! called they said there was no recall. received a notice that they would pay half of repair for the fuel gauge. after warranty was up. *tr

I have a 2005 chevy trailblazer that's warranty just expired. in the last several days after getting gas the gas sensor light and sound alert stays on even after i completely fill the tank. in researching the problem online i have found out that this is a widespread problem with this vehicle, and that it is very costly to repair. this vehicle is marketed and used as a family car, which is what my wife and i use it for. it is very risky to try to guess how much fuel you are using, not to mention the cost of fuel today. i have heard of several incidents of people running out of gas in risky situations like on the interstate. as a consumer i wish you would investigate this situation, and if it is as widespread as i am hearing, encourage the manufacturer to issue a recall for safety purposes. *tr

Filled tank with gas & the fuel light came on and reads empty. this has happened twice, first time in november 2009. i stalled at an intersection. the 2nd time was feb 28, 2010. the needle fluctuates and low fuel light flickers on/off. i don't have the money to have this problem fixed. *tr

My 2005 chevrolet trailblazer's fuel tank level sensor is not working properly it started after i filled the vehicle up with gas on february 26th i am going to replace the part but just not had time to get to it just yet. *tr

Speedometer read that i was going 85mph, i was in a 35mph speed zone going with the flow of traffic.the speedometer ran counter clock wise then clock wise. after that episode the speedometer quit working all to together. failure occurred 62,000 miles. in cold weather the headlights flicker. also my fuel gauge stopped working, reads empty all the time. *tr

I drive a 2005 chevy trailblazer. the fuel gauge has stopped working, so i don't know how much fuel is in my vehicle without using my mileage indicator. it seems ridiculous that i paid lots of dollars for this suv and can't use my fuel gauge. i have not corrected this failure because of the dollar amount it would take to fix it. *tr

Gas gauge on vehicle read higher than actual amount of gas resulting in stalling of the car. now gas gauge remains at empty. *tr

No crash or injury, but am really afraid of something happening with my son in the suv. my head lights flicker when i slow down and worried that one day they are going to shut off and not come back on. my gas gauge was the next thing that stopped working and now my speedometer is not working now. just like others i thought that i was getting a quality vehicle, at least toyota corrects their mistakes!! *tr

Stopped at the gas station to fill up upon leaving the gas gauge was showing empty with the warning light coming on. after about 30 minutes of driving the level finally went up to full. *tr

Gas gauge not working properly. it never reads right anytime. after fueling up it could read anywhere from full to completely empty. when driving down the road it could show half a tank on the gauge then suddenly drop to empty and the low fuel light comes on and shows empty. concerned that it might fail all together and leave me stranded in the middle of the freeway. have not had it fixed due to the high cost of the repair. *tr

Fuel level component does not accurately measure fuel levels in gas tank and could lead to unexpected stalling on highways and roadways which could result in collision when gas runs out but gauge says it is full. it fluctuates every time vehicle is turned on and after tank is filled and car turned on, gauge reads empty for several days and then changes to full. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that one year ago the speedometer failed which made it impossible for her to determine the speed she was driving. the fuel gauge was also displaying the incorrect reading, and the fuel light remained illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who performed a diagnostic test for the fuel failure which indicated that the fuel sending sensor was defective. the local mechanic did not perform a diagnostic test for the speedometer. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer filed report 71-930473192. the failure mileage was 10,000 and the current mileage was 110,000.

My fuel level sensor went out. it had been going up and down for days and then i was driving and the sensor completely died along with my instrument panel. it cost me 638.85. i called gm to see if they would help me out because once i started researching the trailblazers...this seems to be a common issue and they actually had a recall on prior years and the year after which was the 2006, but for some reason the 2005 didn't have a recall. they would not help. very disappointed! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact was driving approximately 55 mph when he noticed that the fuel gauge was displaying an inaccurate fuel level reading. the failure was intermittent for approximately three months until the fuel gauge failed completely, only displaying a reading of empty. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was advised that either the fuel level sensor or fuel pump would need replacing. the vehicle was not repaired and the failure persisted. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 39,000 and the current mileage was 55,000.

2005 chevrolet trailblazer fuel gauge stopped working. filled car with gas gauge reads empty. no way to know now when i am out of gas. car also has a distinct gas smell. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer ls (na). the contact stated the cruise control as well as the fuel gauge no longer functioned. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was told they do not know how to remedy the failures. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 115,000.

2005 trailer blazer fuel level sensor causing erratic fuel gauge operation

Fuel gauge started functioning erratically - would go from empty to full or just start going between full and empty floating around. eventually it just stayed on empty even when i had just filled up. from the time the problem started till it stopped working was only a matter of weeks. now my oil gauge stopped working also. *tr

Fuel level sensor installed on model 2005 chevrolet trailblazer vehicles is defective and could result in vehicle running out of gas. *tr

My 2005 chevrolet trailblazer gas gauge is showing incorrect readings. when the tank is filled with fuel the gauge shows empty and the warning signal continually goes off. with fuel in the tank the gauge goes up and down constantly displaying incorrect readings. this can result in a serious car accident as the driver does not actually know how much fuel is in the tank. i have small children and this concerns me greatly. *tr

Defective/faulty fuel level sensor in 2005 chevrolet trailblazer resulting in continually reading gauge as empty. *tr

Driving down busy roadway, fuel gauge has not worked in about 7 months been using odometer to estimate gas usage. my 2005 trailblazer ran out of gas, almost rearended. there was no shoulder to pull off roadway in a dangerous curve. nearly run over by passing vehicle in an attempt to slow traffic down so my vehicle would not cause accident. close call. imagine a woman with kids in this situation. there are hundreds of this fuel sensor problem on the topix forums website. please help before someone is killed with this problem. *tr

Trailblazer 2005 fuel gauge failure, speedometer intermittent failure, vehicle lunges at idol or shuts off approaching stop/brake. almost causing accident. been to repair and intermittent problem not identified. fuel system flushed. speedometer issue same. fuel gauge currently not working properly, unreliable. *tr

Faulty fuel level readings. *tr

The gas gauge on my 2005 trailblazer points to empty even with a full tank of gas. there is no warning indicator that the gas gauge is not working. *tr

Fuel gauge quit working so it was never known how much fuel was in vehicle. vehicle could stall due to not having adequate fuel. *tr

Purchased full tank of gas and the gauge goes to empty, which means the tank is shown to be on empty; unable to tell amount of gas in vehicle; other gauges work improperly, including radio knob which continues to turn endlessly, wires in radio pops; oil gauge on 60 or above. *tr

The vehicle's fuel gauge stopped working on a long cross country trip. *tr

My speedometer dropped to zero as i was crossing railroad tracks, and my cd player stopped accepting cd's during that same time period for no apparent reason. the gauge later stuck at first 20 - 15 mph, and then to 10 mph when the suv is stopped. after about 2 months, it corrected itself. the gas gauge then went out. it would register the tank as empty no matter if it was filled. this began 2/2010. i, a disabled driver, have run out of gas on a deserted road 12:15 a.m. in the winter due to having to calculate miles driven with the tachometer to determine approximate gas consumption. unfortunately, that calculation doesn't account for engine idling in traffic jams . i sat in the middle of the road in my cold suv praying no one came around the curve and slammed into me since i ran out of gas in the middle of a dark rural road. i was terrified in this situation and rarely drive at night if i can help it because of the manufacturer's known defect and negligence. i have paid over $500 to repair these manufactures defects, only to have them malfunction again within 1 week of repair. i was told by the mechanic that he would not attempt to fix it a second time. once again, my speedometer is no longer registering the correct speed, and i have been pulled over by a police officer for speeding. i showed the officer my speedometer, and to my surprise he let me off with a warning and told me that he has pulled over other trailblazer drivers for speeding who in turn had the same or similar issues with their speedometers. i have had interior lights malfunction, and driver side head light malfunctions where the light keeps going out. the headlight was checked by a mechanic and was not deemed loose or blown.

Fuel sensor went out. well known problem with the trailblazer/envoy. gas gauge showed empty after filling with 18 gallons of fuel. repair cost over $500. *tr

I have a 2005 chevy trailblazer. i purchased said vehicle at the end of july-beginning of august 2007. i have thoroughly enjoyed the experience of owning a chevy due to not having any issues...well that was until december 2009. i began noticing that my gas gauge was malfunctioning. i would fill up the tank but it would read empty, and that problem has been ongoing since my discovery. i currently have to read my mileage to know when to put gas in my tank. additionally, i have ran out of gas twice and both times putting myself in harms way and damaging my fuel pump (which is costly). just two days ago i ran out of gas on a busy street, i didn't panic, but i was a bit nervous. i hit the hazards, and pulled up my emergency brake (because brakes and steering wield froze up). the vehicle behind me slammed on breaks just missing me by inches. this is no way to live and drive. i'm scared to go out of town or take back roads because i may give out of gas in an area where there is no cell phone tower or low to no signals. this has put me in a very bad space. *tr

2005 chevy trailblazer fuel level sensor malfunction causing gas gauge light to stay on all of the time. wife ran out of fuel on highway. very dangerous!!! *tr

The gas gauge quit working, for no apparent reason. first it would work once in a while then it quit all together. when i questioned the gm/chevy dealer, they quoted me a huge price. now that gm is offering to pay 1/2 the price has went down drastically. the engine light stays on, i think this vehicle has more issues than a person will ever know. i have had to replace both wheel hub bearings earlier than i expected. this entire thing has cost me more than it should ever. they (gm) say that the fuel sensor is a wear and tear, but how do they know that, we can't check it like we do tires, wipers, etc. this is the only way that gm is getting some customers happy, and yet still taking advantage of us. ford finds a problem they fix it. with all the bail out money that has been given- our tax dollars they -gm should be paying for the whole problem. *tr

First was the right tail light caught fire and blew fuses, then i get power surges that cause the vehicle to accelerate randomly at the worst times and/or will also stall out, which can be potentially very dangerous or end in a fatal accident, it drops in rpms and lights dim then it accelerates... and the last thing is that the fuel gauge fluctuates dramatically and you can never tell how much fuel you really have... drive 10 miles at quarter of a tank and it either stays close to the same spot or drops and the light comes on for low fuel. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. two fuel lines were leaking fuel. this failure could cause a fire within the fuel tank. the vehicle was repaired at a local repair facility. the failure mileage was 47,000. updated 01/29/10.*lj both fuel lines had multiple pin hole leaks. fuel was leaking near the engine and catalytic converter. both areas where extreme heat was prevalent. the consumer stated the lines should have been made of stainless steel. updated 01/29/10.*jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact was driving approximately 40 mph and noticed that the fuel gauge displayed a reading of empty, after gasoline was added to the fuel tanks capacity, the fuel gauge consistently indicated that it was empty. the contact stated that whenever the vehicles computerized system was reset there would be an accurate reading. currently, the fuel gauge does not provide an accurate reading after being reset. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 52,000. the current mileage was 58,000.
