We have classified the 429 complaints from 2005 Chevrolet TrailBlazer about FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE into the following categories.
My trailblazer fuel gauge not working, fuel light stays on after filling, gas gauge lights up but tank filled. *tr
I have a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer with a defective gas gauge. regardless how much gas in the tank the gauge reads 1/4 tank or less, most of the time the low fuel light is lit indicating there is no gas in the car. i am reluctant to pay the $900 to repair this as there is ample evidence the replacement part is no better than the original and the condition returns within weeks. this part is defective and needs to be replaced with a functional gauge. *tr
The gas gauge light comes on even though we have filled up the car. this happens now on a regular basis. the light will start making a noise when it detects there is no gas, but we just filled up the car. it is going to cost 1,000 dollars at the dealership and have noticed a lot of other people have this same problem. *tr
The gas gauge on my 2005 chevy trailblazer is always on "e" and the empty indicator light is always on, even after i have filled up my gas tank. this problem has been going on for about 2-3 weeks now. i read some statements online that several gm owners of 2005 trailblazers are having the same issue, causing me to believe that the issue lies with the car itself. *tr
Fuel gauge always reads empty the sender unit is an extremely common defect on this vehicle. *tr
The gas gauge in my 2005 chevy trailblazer has stopped working. it began to show empty after filling my tank but then registering full about 50 miles after driving. now it always shows empty and i have to record my mileage to keep track of my gas. i am always concerned i may run out of gas if i miscalculate my remaining gas. i can't take my 2005 trailblazer on vacation since i have no way of knowing how much gas is in my vehicle. my wife ran out of gas on the highway and was almost in an accident. the dealer wanted almost $800 dollars and two days to fix the gas gauge. i cannot afford the repairs so i am forced to hope i will be safe in my vehicle. *tr
I have a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer and in the summer of 2010 i filled my car up with gas and the gas gauge needle went over to empty. the needle would fluctuate back and forth from empty to full so i didn't know how much gas i really had. i called the dealership service department and they knew exactly what i was talking about. they said the fuel sensor is defective and it would cost about $1000 to repair. i did some research online and this is a very common problem with most trailblazers. i believe there needs to be a recall because you can't tell if you are about to run out of gas or not. *tr
While driving, the gas gauge when from nearly full to empty, causing the low fuel warning light to come up. it then intermittently when from empty, back up to full, and then down to reading empty again. the vehicle was serviced with a full tank of gas the day prior and had only been driven for several short errands around town. this has occurred both times the vehicle was driven on aug 17th. today (aug 18th)we took the vehicle around the block for a test drive. it started out reading full tank. at about 30mph is dropped to empty. while sitting in the parking lot when getting home, the gauge was going up and down. an online search shows that the likely cause is the fuel sending unit. this is apparently a well-known issue with 2005 chevy trailblazers. there were also several reports of vehicles actually shutting off while driving due to the vehicle believing it was out of fuel when it was not. chevy refuses to acknowledge there is a problem, but is happy to take your $800 for the repair. another cause could be the stepper motor for the gauge, which from online research appears to be another known issue with the trailblazer that gm refuses to acknowledge. *tr
I have a 2005 chevy trailblazer. i took the vehicle to the mechanic because the headlight and the fuel gauge where not working. the mechanic replaced the wiring for the headlight as it had melted. the fuel sensor was going to cost 700. so i did not have it repaired. this is a constant source of stress and worry for me as i may run out of fuel with my family on board. since the sensor does not work i am leering of the fuel used option as well. the low fuel light is on the majority of the time even when the tank is full. *tr
Fuel system, gasoline, in-tank gauge defective un-reliable, intermittent or random readings shown on gas gauge and yellow low fuel warning light not indicating actual fuel tank level. resulted in a serious un-safe condition abruptly running out of gas on the free-way needing to pull off roadway with no power and limited control. with increasing numbers of customer complaints for the same issue gm is aware of the defective design, product reliability insufficiency, that is contributing to exposing operator, and / or passengers to hazardous unsafe conditions which may result in serious injury or death. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the catalytic converter warning light was illuminated and the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the dealer advised that the catalytic converter would need to be reset but not repaired. the dealer reset the catalytic converter however the reset was only a temporary repair. one year later, after refueling the vehicle, the fuel level sensor failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 97,000 and the current mileage was 105,000.
Fuel gauge started to give a false reading, then eventually stopped working entirely. the vehicle only had about 50,000+ miles on it at the time. we eventually paid $360 to get the fuel sensor/gauge replaced. i have read numerous complaints about this issue on the trailblazer. on at least two occasions, we were put into a worrisome situation due to this fuel gauge issue. this is not an issue that should be happening on a vehicle with this kind of mileage when the problem was first encountered. *kb
Fuel gauge is not indicating fuel level. gauge incorrectly displays as empty or almost empty when fuel tank is full or partially full. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. after refueling he noticed the fuel gauge read empty. he began to drive and the fuel gauge began to display a fuel reading which was not accurate. the failure would recur when driving at any speed or while stopped. the vehicle was not taken to be examined for the cause of failure and was not repaired. the failure mileage was 77,000 and the current mileage was 80,000.
During a road trip from texas to florida the fuel gauge in the 2005 chevy trailblazer dropped to empty. in addition there have been several instances of the car completely shutting off even though there was fuel in the tank due to the gauge as reading empty. the fuel gauge / fuel level sensor on the 2005 chevy trailblazer is defective. the gauge does not report the correct level of fuel in the tank and continuously shows empty even when the tank is completely full. this could lead to the vehicle stalling in locations such as highways that put the occupants in danger. chevy informs that the fuel level sensor will need replaced inside the fuel tank. the cost of this repair is quoted between $800 and $1000. i feel that this is a safety issue that deserves action by the manufacture to have the issue corrected. *tr
The fuel tank sensor in the vehicle is defective. after putting approximately $50.00 worth of gas in the tank the low fuel light goes on and the gas gauge does not move out of the low fuel position. this is a serious safety concern for obvious reasons. *tr
My 2005 trailblazer fuel gauge suddenly stopped working. it always reads no fuel now even after filling up. i have read online and it seems many consumers are having this issue and gm wants over $1,000.00 dollars to fix. please look into this as this could result in my vehicle stalling or running out of gas. thank you. *tr
2005 chevy trailblazer. fuel gauge does not work properly. have to keep track of mileage to get an idea of how much fuel is in tank. gauge usually reads empty, with low fuel light on, even when filled up. wife ran out of gas on busy street. checked around, and found many, many other complaints of the same problem. *tr
Fuel gauge indicator is not working stays at empty when just filled.!!! *tr
Just recently when i filled up my tank it would show the fuel gauge as empty and my light would come on. about 50 to 75 miles later it would level out to be correct, but i would also reset my miles just to make sure. within the last 2 months it has completely stopped working. my gas light stays on all the time and i cannot get accurate mileage either. after resetting my mileage and driving i believed to have 75 miles left on my tank which was not true. it did not seem to be so much of a hassle until i broke down in the middle of town, because out of gas. it is extremely frustrating to learn it is a wide spread issue and that there has been no recall on this part yet. i am a mother of 4 children and for me to break down in the middle of town is a scary and uneasy thought. i rely on my vehicle to keep myself and family safe and this is something that is major that needs to be fixed. i have read other complaints and people who have fixed this issue themselves, but i believe since this is a large problem all over that it needs to be taken care of by gm. *tr
2005 chevrolet trailblazer 2005 - instrument panel fuel indicator registers empty always. fuel sensor does not work. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that after refueling the vehicle, the fuel gauge displayed an inaccurate empty reading. the fuel gauge adjusted and began to display various improper readings once the contact began to drive the vehicle. the contact also stated that the vehicle stalled on a few occasions when the fuel gauge displayed an empty reading. the vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 91,000 and the current mileage was 100,600. the vin was unavailable.
Fuel sending unit failing. multiple complaints posted online concerning the repeated failure of the fuel sending unit. gauge needle moves up and down and primarily registers empty. *tr
Fuel gauge inoperative. needle swings from empty to full erratically. when tank is re-filled, gauge shows empty with warning light and chime on. i understand this is coming from inside the gas tank. *tr
Fuel gauge in 2005 trailblazer does not work properly. it shows as being empty when full and 1/4 full when almost empty. *tr
Fuel warning light comes on and off at will. fuel gauge works when it feels like it should. no consistency. *tr
I went to fill up my gas tank and the gauge read empty. i took my vehicle into the dealership for diagnostic and was told it was because of faulty equipment. i can not tell how much gas i have in my truck and i'm afraid that my truck will give out of gas, stall, and i get rear ended. this is dangerous. also, at about 85,000 the speedometer has failed. it reads 0 when i'm driving. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the fuel gauge displayed an improper reading while driving various speeds. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing or to be repaired. the manufacturer was notified, but they offered no assistance. the failure mileage was 65,000. the vin was unavailable.
While driving on the expressway the gas gauge indicator beeped indicating that i was low on fuel. i was not sure when i filled up last so i stopped and filled up with gas. after filling up with gas, i restarted the vehicle, the gas gauge still read empty. two months prior to this i had to replace the instrument cluster on the dash (speedometer, etc), so with this being the case, i determined that the gas sending unit was faulty or broken. from what i read, the cost to fix this varies from $650 to $850. i've put off this repair since i find that many people have the same problem and have heard news reports about a possible recall for this. basically now, the gauge is never correct and fluctuates between empty & 1/4 of a tank. it will drop or rise multiple times in a 20 mile trip.
I own a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. recently, my gas gauge began acting up. it states that the gas tank is empty right after i fill up. it constantly readjusts itself. i never know exactly how much gas is in my car. it is a very frustrating problem and an expensive repair. extensive internet research shows that this is a problem for other trailblazer owners as well. i do not understand why gm has not recalled this. *tr
The gas gauge began by only working periodically and now either indicates a full tank or empty tank, (mostly empty) at all times regardless of the actual level in the tank. *tr
At approx 36,800 miles the gas gauge no longer functioned. the low fuel light is always on and the gas gauge always shows either empty or 1/2 full even after a fill up. in order to not run out of gas, you need to keep track of mileage with trip meter and fill up at 150 to 175 miles. the cost to fix this malfunction is over $500. in addition, the thermostat froze open and needed replaced along with the sensor inside the thermostat. this happened at 48,000 miles. *tr
Roughly about 6/7/10 my fuel gage quit working and now on 11/2/10 my speedometer gauge started acting up and is not working. this has something to do with the instrument cluster panel being bad.
I stopped for gas coming home from long trip. about five miles later my fuel gauge went to empty. it would work sporadically for a few months then nothing. i have noticed that instrument panel goes really dim once in a while for no reason also. i have received a letter from gm stating that they have a problem with the fuel level sensor and they are willing to pay for 50% of cost to fix. if they know their part is defective shouldn't they recall and take care of their faulty product. *tr
My 2005 chevy trail blazers fuel gage stopped working about 9-12 months ago, it is totally inaccurate and never reads properly, even when full. i read in the milwaukee journal there have been many others with the same problem. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the fuel level gauge was showing an erroneous reading. he stated that he had to refuel every two hundred miles and the fuel level gauge would show an empty reading despite the fuel tank being full to capacity. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the fuel gauge was defective and would need to be replaced. the manufacturer was not contacted and the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 100,000.
Since june 2010, the fuel level gauge on my 2005 chevrolet trailblazer has not functioned properly. regardless of the actual fuel level, it reads at 1/4 tank or below, which causes me to rely on my trip odometer to estimate my current fuel levels. i have checked with the chevrolet dealerships, and they are charging between $500 - $800 to correct this problem! as the previous owner of two gm vehicles and the daughter and granddaughter of general motors retirees', i am sorely disappointed in general motors refusal to admit the failure of the fuel gauge system that has affected thousands of vehicles.
Gas gauge no longer displays level of fuel in vehicle -also headlights dim when car is started.. fuel ending unit is believed to be problem by professionals regarding the fuel gauge. *tr
I have a 2005 chevy trailblazer. my fuel gauge no longer works. the only way i can track how much gas i have is by keeping up with my mileage. when i took it to my local dealer i was told that this was a very common problem in trailblazers and that it would cost $500-$600 to repair. when i did a quick search online i found hundreds and hundreds of other trailblazer owners with the same complaint! i believe this is a safety issue and want to know why this wasn't a recall! i got no assistance from the general motors and was only told to "go through my dealer."dealer didn't care. one minute it says i have gas then the next, empty. *tr
Please go to this site and you will see why this problem can get someone killed if you run out of gas. http://www.carcomplaints.com/chevrolet/trailblazer/2005/electrical/fuel_gauge_quit_working.shtml. *tr
Fuel gauge in my 05 chevy trailblazer just quit working causing me to run out of fuel on the freeway. *tr
2005 chevy trailblazer 4x4 fuel gauge no matter how much gas you put in it will show maybe from half to whatever then while sitting it will drop down to empty and lights will blink showing empty on gas, when just put gas in the vehicle. *tr
Chevy trailblazer '05 fuel gauge defective. causes vehicle to run out of gas, which on highways and intersections is a vital danger, not to mention single women driving at night being stranded on the road! just read a blog, 388 posted the exact same problem. the fuel sensor is defective and we request a recall. *tr
Chevy trailbazer 05... gas gauge keeps moving from low to empty back to full, sometimes it stays at empty. check engine light stays on. fuel sending unit keeps failing. unit was replaced in 2007 at dealership. sending unit has gone bad again. very expensive labor needed to fix this. when i fixed the first time i had warranty now it has expired. i checked online and it seems like everyone with a chevy trailblazer is having the same problem also my..to my knowledge this is a completely defect of the car. my major fear is to run out of gas on the highway and my car to stall. leading to an accident.....also the instrument panel light keep getting darker..sometimes several lights come on. *tr
I have a '05 chevrolet trailblazer and about a week ago my gas gauge start to go crazy. i fill it up with gas and the needle went to empty. it start moving up and it went back to empty and stay there. i don't know how much gas i have now and went it is empty or not. please look in to this. i know i'm not the only one with this problem. *tr
I have a 2005 chevy trailblazer with a fuel problem. i think it's the fuel sending unit. the fuel gauge reads empty at all times even after afull fill up. when i googled this question the results i got were astounding at how many other people were having this same problem. i feel that if it were a once in awhile thing that happens no big deal but this seems to be a known problem with this vehicle. i have spoken to 3 different auto mechanics and even they say it crazy that's there's no recall on it as it a manufacturing problem. *tr
Without warning the fuel gauge has completely stopped working and the low fuel indicator light stays on all the time. i have not replaced any parts as it is quite costly and my mechanic suggested i research a recall for this problem as it is quite common in these vehicles. i am afraid i will forget to reset my mileage one time and run out of gas, causing a traffic hazard and possibly an accident. *tr
Gas gauge shows empty even though there is fuel in the tank. light stays on even after putting gas in the tank! *tr
About 3 weeks ago, i stopped at a local gas station and filled up my 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. when i crank the truck, i noticed my gas light was on even after i fully filled the stop. i was baffled by this knowing i'd just spent $50 for a fill-up and i had begin to think there may have possibly been something wrong with my gas tank. i searched and asked other trailblazer owners and learned that it's my fuel sensor that's the problem as they have experienced the same issue with their vehicle. this seem to be a issue with this make an model and i shouldn't have to pay out of pocket for chevrolet's problem. *tr
My 2005 chevy trailblazer is at the dealership at this moment due to malfunction in the instrument cluster panel. first my gas gauge went out 3 months ago and now my speedometer is broken - shows i am going 60 when i am at a stop or it may go down to 30 at times. it will cost $500 for the cluster and $550 for the fuel sensor. i called gm to see if they will pay for repairs but have not heard a response yet. *tr
