We have classified the 429 complaints from 2005 Chevrolet TrailBlazer about FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE into the following categories.
Faulty fuel gauge sending unit. very common problem in many chevrolet trailblazers and gmc envoys. there needs to be a recall as this is a very common problem and the dealer wants $600 to repair this problem. *tr
The fuel gauge on my 2005 chevy trailblazer reads empty most of the time and at other times when it does register fuel it can't be trusted. the cluster on this vehicle had to be replaced when the speedometer would stick and could not tell how fast the vehicle was traveling. this repair cost me over $600. this is a very dangerous situation to be in. the online blogs show many people having the same problem, but chevy wont recognize this problem. *tr
As i was driving down a narrow and busy country road (because of a detour), my fuel indicator, which read 3/4 full, immediately hit empty and my car stalled out because it was out of gas. although up until that second the fuel indicator read 3/4 full, i was actually out of gas. i was nearly rear-ended, had no shoulder to escape to and if the people behind me had been following any closer there would have been a several car pile up. as it stood, this incident put many in danger and it was simply a miracle that it didn't cause an accident. after aaa brought me gas, i was able to drive to a gas station and even though i filled the tank, the indicator still read empty. the dealership told me that they'd heard of this many times before but would have to charge me almost $900.00 parts and labor to fix the issue, as it wasn't covered under any warranty and there was no recall. a few internet searches later and i find i'm one of thousands of people having this issue. please feel free to use my portion of the tax dollars i paid into the car manufacturer bail-out to issue a recall on this part so they can fix the problem, like any responsible manufacturer should. if it's toyota having a problem, we are worse then a dog with a bone; if it's an american manufacture, do we have to wait for someone to die over the issue before action is taken? sincerely and disappointedly yours... *tr
My gas gauge failed and caused an inaccuracy in the amount of gas in my vehicle. it now remains with the light on and at empty. i have been clearing the miles at each fill up to monitor approximately 300 miles per tank. i feel there should be a recall on this due to the numerous amounts of vehicles with this problem. it is definitely a safety hazard!
2005 trailblazer that gas gauge doesn't work properly and has caused me to stall out on a street and almost cause more issues. *tr
Faulty fuel gauge. *tr
I just purchased a 2005 chevy trailblazer for my youngest daughter and safety was the reason for an suv. two months after my purchase the gas gage no longer works, almost always on e and some times jumps around. i cant afford to take chances with her life with an accident or run out of gas in the wrong place. i asked a dealer and they told me they fix this problem on every trail blazer. they also told me i have to replace the fuel pump as well and this should be a recall issue. the total bill is around $700 for something that shouldn't happen on every trailblazer, don't you agree? i have done my homework and i see this happens to everyone's trailblazer and could make us all look @ other autos in the future. im very happy with chevy cars, trucks and suv's lets keep our relationship a positive one ok? $700 will not brake my wallet just my trust. *tr
2005 trailblazer gas gauge fluctuates wildly. we have been trying to monitor the tank by tracking mileage. my wife used the car and inadvertently subtracted the miles incorrectly and ran out of gas in the fast lane of the 405 freeway !! a very dangerous situation. no one was hurt, just a lot of stress and a rescue mission. the gauge now stays on, or just above empty. chevy dealer wants 800.00 for repair and says it's not their problem. my on-line research shows thousands of this car have the identical symptom. most definitely their problem !! in addition, the speedometer has a mind of it's own. i was pulled over on the i 15 for doing 88 when my speedometer read 70. (i'm 58 and have never had a ticket) on pulling over the speedometer came to rest at 25 mph. the officer understood and let me go with a warning to get it fixed. my problem....i need chevy to fix it !! *tr
Fuel gage drops to empty immediately after filling the tank. it then reads empty and will intermittently go up to 1/2 tank and back to empty. sometimes when driving and the tank is full it will ding 3 times and flash a low fuel warning. *tr
Fuel gauge sensor not reading correct amount of fuel and changing readings while driving. creates the possibility of vehicles running out of fuel while driving creating a hazard on the highway. this appears to be a national problem with the 2005 - chevrolet trailblazer. *ln
Nhtsa action number: pe11014 fuel gauge inaccuracy and randomness of information. ran out of fuel twice on interstate due to inaccurate information. safely got to side of road both times and required road service to provide fuel to get to next station for fuel. other gauges were providing bad information and had to replace entire instrument panel to repair. repair cost $391.80. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the vehicle fuel gauge was defective. the contact mentioned that the gauge would display that the fuel tank was empty right after refueling. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure who offered to pay for half of the repair costs. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 96,780. the dash light will go on and off by themselves the door chime does not always work the radio does not always work goes on and off and loud then quite. updated 11/03/2011 *ln *tr
The fuel gage reads inaccurate readings. this causes problems as to know how much gasoline is available in the vechicle. upon filling tank the gage will read empty. when driving the gage will read a quater of a tank then drop down to show as empty. there is never a true reading as to how much gasoline is in the vechicle. also not sure if letting this issue go will cause future issues. *tt
I purchased a 2005 chevy trailblazer from a general motors dealer in 2009. shortly after the purchase our gas gauge started bouncing back and forth from full to empty. when i called the dealership repair center after a few words came out of my mouth the service manager says "oh that's a common problem and we can repair it for about $700 or sometimes it starts working again. i asked why it was not recalled if it's so common and he replied "it's not up to us". i was so irritated that i never tried again. a couple of months later it started working fine, in fact i made a 3600 mile journey with no problem. tonight i was driving in rush hour traffic and the gauge went from 3/4 tank to zero and my vehicle shut down in the middle of traffic. aside from almost being rear ended my wife, daughter and i were almost ran over trying to push our vehicle out of the road to safety. i have not repaired or replaced any parts because i am looking for a good automotive attorney. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. while the gas tank was full, the gas gauge displayed zero. the contact experienced the failure in 2007, and the dealership replaced the fuel sensor. the dealership was contacted and stated that since the fuel sensor was replaced it should not have failed again. the contact will be responsible for the repairs since the warranty expired. the vehicle wasn't repaired. the failure mileage was 35,800 and the current mileages were 88,200. updated 1/19/2010 updated 03/24/11
2005 chevy trailblazer gas guage does not work. it's on empty all the time, even when you fill up. while driving today on the freeway i set the crusie control and the speedometer goes haywire. it goes all the way over and stays stuck. i don't know how fast i'm driving or how much gas i have. dealership does not have recall. gas guage was fixed once while vehicle was under warranty. gas gauge will cost 600 to repair. i don't know about speedometer. as a consumer i feel cheated. after all i am the one payin the note each month. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving 5-10 mph, the contact noticed that the fuel gauge did not function although he had just fueled the vehicle. the contact had to set the odometer to avoid running out of gas. the vehicle had not been inspected or repaired. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 62,120 and the current mileage was 62,185.
I filled up my gas tank while it still had 1/4 tank of fuel. once i started the engine the gas gauge went to e with the light coming on while sitting at the gas station. the gauge then pinged from full to empty for the next few days then settling at full when i went up a steep bridge. since then the fuel gauge has continued to do this every time i fill the tank up. this is a safety issue due to not knowing the fuel level in the tank. this should be fixed as i can see a lot of people all over the us have had the same issues. gm needs to recall this and fix the issue. my truck is out of warranty due to the years as well as the mileage of just 65,000 miles. this needs to be fixed. *tr
2005 chevy trailblazer fuel sensor. does not read correctly, and after fill up, the gauge goes to empty. *tr
2005 chevy trailblazer gas gauge does not work properly after 85,000 miles. when the tank is filled it reads empty and only goes to a quarter of a tank after running it. *tr
On or about november 12, 2010 the vehicle owner had the instrument panel replaced. shortly after replacing the instrument panel at a cost of approximately $550 the gas sensor stopped working. the owner complained to the chevy service department but was told that this was a separate issue and not caused by the replacement of the instrument panel. the owner checked for recalls on the internet but found more complaints for the same issue but no manufacture recall or data on either the instrument panel or gas senor/gauge. since the gas sensor/gauge/fuel level indicator does not work the vehicle owners have run out of gas at least 3 separate times. 1). a friday night at 10:00 p.m. on a dark winding road; 2). on a very busy 4-lane thorough fare both vehicle owners and a passenger ran out of gas at a stop light; 3). most recently was approximately 3-weeks ago. there's no way to know when the gas tank is full or running low on fuel because the "low gas" fuel light stays on most of the time or when the owners do fill-up the tank the gas gauge remains "e". the owners were quoted the cost of repair would be upwards of $500+.
Faulty gas gauge dropped to e with light & pinging upon filling tank. now stays mostly on e. moves up a little bit from time to time. *tr
I have a 2005 chevy trailblazer. the fuel system gauge is malfunctioning. i ran out of gas on a busy street twice before the system completely failed and i realized the issue was with the gauge. i have contacted gm and dealers and they say it is not a safety issue so there is no recall. this is a pervasive problem and a manufacturing defect and certainly has the potential to create serious safety issues if your vehicles stalls on any busy street. dealers will fix the problem for $600-$800. *tr
2005 chevrolet trailblazer lt, gas gauge sensor in fuel tank not working properly. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact was driving approximately 45-50 mph when the vehicle would suddenly jerk forward as if it were attempting to stall. in addition, the fuel gauge would not operate properly and would read empty after she would refill the tank. the vehicle was not inspected by a dealer nor repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was approximately 100,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving approximately 30 mph the fuel gauge would fluctuate constantly. the contact was unable to determine how much fuel was in the vehicle. the dealer was contacted and quoted an estimated repair cost for the repairs. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 46,000.
The fuel gauge of my 2005 chevy trailblazer has a mind of it's own. it stopped working correctly at somewhere near 85,000 miles. it no longer ever shows a full tank, even after a fill up, stopping just short of 1/2 full. the gauge then will go up and down from this point at will, moving usually down to "e" as i sit idle at a traffic light. i can fill up, and less the 150 miles later, it will show empty, even though i've used less then 1/2 a tank of gas. i have run out of gas on a busy highway because of this condition, even as this gauge showed 1/4 tank. i was not hit, but was very close to getting rear ended. i am now hearing this is a common problem with certain gm vehicles.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the fuel gauge would read inaccurately. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure nor was the vehicle diagnosed or repaired. the current mileage was 152,000 and the approximate failure mileage was 136,000. the vin was unavailable.
I have a 2005 trailblazer in which the gas gauge is defective. about 6 months ago, it started sending the alarm of low fuel even though there was plenty of gas in vehicle. now, the gauge goes up and down and eventually will be in the empty position even after i have filled it up. need to get vehicle fixed, but waiting until a recall occurs. *tr
Problem with 2005 chevrolet trailblazer fuel system where the fuel gauge inaccurately reads empty. this is a major hazard as i never know how much gas is in the car and recently ran out of gas on a busy highway. *tr
Fuel sending unit does not work. i have read that this is all too common for any kind of safety while driving this vehicle. *tr
The gas gauge on my 2005 chevy trailblazer has stopped working. it gradually stopped registering the actual gas. after filling the gas, it register empty. as i drove, the gas would register as full. eventually it stopped moving at all. this has been going on for a period of 6mos. i started filling the gas more often. after filling the gas, 2 days later, the vehicle shut off in the middle of the highway, causing a near traffic accident because there was no warning. clearly, i wasn't out of gas. i had just fill the gas and became accustomed to how far i could drive before i needed to refill. this was very dangerous. it is obvious a defect in the gas gauge. i wasn't sure until now after visiting this site that i am not alone. the speedometer has also stopped working. i'm sure if it is registering the mileage i drive. not knowing how fast i am driving is surely a safety issue. i visited my mechanic is was given an estimate of $500 to repair. surely it shouldn't take a death to rectify this issue. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving approximately 35 mph the speedometer began to move erratically. the speedometer reading fluctuated and displayed the incorrect speeds. the fuel gauge also did not display the accurate amount of gasoline in the fuel tank. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technicians stated the fuel level sensor and the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. there was an open investigation under nhtsa action number: dp10001 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump) which may be related to the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and agreed to cover the repair cost for the instrument cluster. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
The fuel sensor of our 2005 chevy trailblazer has stopped working. fixing this will require removing the fuel tank and replacing the fuel pump. *tr
Fuel level sensor on 2005 trailblazer ext., quit working after filling tank. *tr
2005 chevy trailblazer-gas gauge stopped working accurately. stays around 1/4 tank while driving. low level indicator comes on when car is first started and then moves back up to 1/4 tank even though the tank may be full. two weeks after noticing the gas gauge i also noticed my speedometer was not reading accurately. noticed this when i was sitting at a stop light. while car was stopped speedometer said i was going 20 mph. after reading all the complaints regarding these same issues, i'm very disappointed that no one is doing anything about it. this is my first chevy and im sure it will be my last. if its relevant mileage is approximately 69,000. *tr
Everytime i fill up my gauge won't register. it's frustrating. i transferred out of state and to have to refuel every 200 miles isn't right. i am paying my hard earned money for this vehicle. i could have gotten an older vehicle without this problem. i was told the float needs to be replaced. i just put in a new transmission at 76,000 miles. i have 86,000 on it now. *tr
The gas gauge is constantly showing the tank is empty - even after it has been filled up.
The gas gauge stopped working first followed buy the speedometer and then engine light goes off and on. i complained to gm was told this is natural wear and tear on the vehicle. i now have 110,000 miles on it but started soon after extended warranty ran out at 65,000 miles. i will have to continue driving with these defects don't have $550-$600 for each item. this is a safety hazard and something should be done about it. *tr
Filled the gas tank up, fuel light stayed on. chevy trailblazer 2005. *tr
At approximately 60,000 miles my fuel gage started malfunctioning, it would remain on "e" immediately after filling up. at approximately 70,000 miles my speedometer stopped working. i took it to the dealer for a diagnostic check and was told that the instrument panel cluster would need to be replaced at a cost of $600. i contacted gm and inquired about a recall and was told there had not been one and there was none planned in the near future.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated the fuel sensor failed. the fuel gauge would display that the fuel tank was empty when there was fuel in the vehicle. when he tried to add fuel it would spill back out of the vehicle. the contact received a letter from the chevrolet manufacturer stating they would replace the fuel sensor for $600 and they would pay fifty percent of the cost. the consumers can only take the vehicle to an authorized chevrolet dealer to be repaired. there was no nhtsa recall letter from the chevrolet manufacturer. the manufacturer was notified but offered no assistance or details regarding why they had to take the vehicle to an authorized chevrolet dealer. the failure mileage was 118,000.
Over the past year i have a variety electrical problems with my blazer. the gas gauge has stopped working, indicating that it is low on fuel or empty and my speedometer is no longer functioning. i have had to push all the way on the gas pedal at times to get the car to go. very dangerous especially when merging onto highways/freeways. i will never buy another chevy again! *tr
My gas gauge always reads empty even when the car is full. engine light always goes on and off between a matter of days. recently my heat went out in my car we changed the resistor and found out one of the prongs were burnt out. a week later the heat went out again. looked at the resistor and the same prong was burnt out!! i'm getting really fed up with this vehicle! *kb
Gas guage stop working. i recently received a letter from gmc aknowledging a sensor problem with their 2005 gmc cars but only willing to reimburse 50% of what apparently is their fault. this is a problem that need to be fix 100% by gmc. stand behind your products! *kb
Own a 2005 chevy trailblazer and speedo stops working at times and this has been on going since 6 months ago and now oil gauge and fuel gauge are not reading right. and they read wrong all the time now. haven't paid anyone to repair problem yet except paying someone to manual check oil pressure and engine has good oil pressure but gauge reads 0. *tr
Fuel guage quit working. *tt
2005 chevorlet trailblazer fuel gauge does not reflect accurate fuel level even after filled up and leads to an unaware level of gas being held within the tank. *tt
Fuel gauge stopped working. filled up gas tank and fuel gauge remained on empty. took into dealership in oct 2010, 67,864 miles on vehicle. they advised it was a know problem. had repaired at cost of $800. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the fuel gauge failed and was providing inaccurate fuel level readings. when the fuel tank was either full or empty, the gauge would remain at zero, causing the contact to have to add fuel to the vehicle often. the dealer was contacted and advised that the fuel level sensor failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 85,000 and the current mileage was 100,000. updated 02/13/12 *bf updated 02/29/12
