We have classified the 429 complaints from 2005 Chevrolet TrailBlazer about FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE into the following categories.
I have a 2005 chevy trailblazer. i have had multiple "known" problems with it. the most recent issue is with the gas gauge. when i fill my tank, the gauge shows as empty and dings at me for a few days and then will suddenly jump to 3/4 of a tank. also, i watch my mileage because i normally refill my tank around 300 miles and it seems to still show that i have 1/4 of a tank at 300 miles. unless i'm suddenly getting much better gas mileage, this isn't possible, so i fill my tank to be safe. i'm being told this is yet another "known" issue and it will cost another $800 to fix it. i've had 3 "known" issue in the last year and each of them seem to cost $800 to fix. if i run out of gas with my child in the car, it could be very dangerous since most of my driving is done on the interstate or expressway. *tr
2005 chevy trailblazer, gas gauge does not work all of the time and when it is working it is not accurate, shortly after filling tank, low fuel alarm sounds. the alarm is a distraction, in addition there are times when it indicates there is fuel and the vehicle runs out of gas, the creates a hazard, getting stuck on the highway. *tr
Tl*the contact owns 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated whenever dispensing fuel into the fuel tank to its capacity, the fuel gauge would display an inaccurate reading. the failure was continuous. the contact planned to take the vehicle to a local independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. the failure mileage was approximately 75,490.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the fuel level gauge was reading inaccurately and she was unable to determine how much fuel was in the vehicle. the contact did not inform the dealer or manufacturer of the failure nor was the vehicle diagnosed or repaired. the current and failure mileage was approximately 65,900. updated 09/21/11*lj updated 10/05/11
Fuel gauge acts up had gm repair for over 600.00. *tr
Gas gauge on vehicle does not give accurate gas level in tank. readings on the gas gauge fluctuate with vehicle in park, gives empty warning ding when tank is full, and readings on gauge fluctuate erratically at times while vehicle is in motion. have been stuck on highway with an empty fuel tank a couple times with my three young children in the car. it is my concern that this may cause a fire in vehicle so i no longer put my family in it.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the fuel gauge malfunctioned and was providing an inaccurate reading of empty. the vehicle was not been inspected by a dealer nor repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was approximately 101,000. the vin was not available.
My 2005 chevrolet trailblazer ran out of fuel when after having a half a tank reading the gauge instantly went to empty and approximately 3 or 4 miles later the tank was empty. now the gauge is completely dead and reads empty all the time. *tr
I was driving on the freeway when i noticed my speedometer suddenly went to 100 miles an hour. i knew this could not be the case as my gps showed i was traveling at 55mph. it then went to 120miles an hour and flip. flopped back and forth. i went to the chevrolet dealership and they informed me it was the electrical cluster and even though there were many complaints, chevrolet would not pay for it. the cost to me would be over $500 i live on a small social security check, so could not afford to repair it. next at 85,000 miles the fuel gauge went haywire and would not register any fuel although i would fill it completely. also, the lights blink off and on when i am driving at night, so, i am afraid i will be stranded somewhere in the dark with my car quitting all together. this was my last car purchase before i retired and i am just sick that the chevrolet company will not fix these defects...they fix the same cluster in their chevrolet trucks....why not in the cars? by the way, i just got a letter last week saying they would "split the cost " to fix the fuel gauge...(my cost is $200 1/3 of my social security check!! *tr
When the gas tank is filled,. the fuel gauge reads empty and the low fuel lights will illuminate. *js
Gas gauge failure, irregular gauge readings that started about 6 months ago. i have been using the trip to watch my mileage and fill up about ever 250 miles so that i won't be without gas on the highway as i live in a rural community and the larger town is 25 miles away. *tr
2005 chevrolet trailblazer. consumer writes in regards to problem with fuel tank sensor issue *tgw
Speedometer quits working intermittently. it will work fine for awhile, and then all of a sudden it says we are traveling 0 miles per hour or the speedometer says we are going slower than our actual speed. *tr today i filled my gas tank and now my fuel gage says it is on e and the low fuel light is on.
March 30, 2011, i spent $80.00 on fuel to fill my trailblazer with gas. i started driving and the gas gauge never moved, and was still showing empty with the low fuel warning chiming. when i was almost home the fuel gauge finally started moving but never went past a half tank. i inspected the vehicle to see if there were any signs of a fuel leak and nothing looked out of the ordinary. when i had to leave again to run errands the fuel gauge would move, however, it would go back down to empty when i was stopped or put the car in park. i have also had issues with rear tail light panel wires frying and having to replace those when there were no apparent causes (moisture, etc.). lights dimming while i roll up a window or push other buttons in the car (radio, climate control) and lights in certain areas of the car just blowing out. fuses are fine, alternator and battery are fine. why is this vehicle having so many problems at 56,000 miles? i understand that these are not life threatening issues, but what is next. why do i have to constantly monitor my mileage just to make sure i don't stall or run out of gas when i am driving. are we the customers supposed to shell out $$$ to have repairs done continually on defective equipment and components. i don't think so. gmc needs to drastically improve the quality and durability of their products, and step up to the plate and take care of the customers they do have. word of mouth is way more effective than millions of dollars in advertising.
Problems with my 2005 chevy trailblazer started with a series of engine lights, misfiring and stalling at low speeds and upon acceleration. my thermostat has been replaced numerous amount of times . i do preventative maintenance to keep my car in good working condition. i'm a single parent i need my car. my entire dashboard stopped working after getting stuck on and off. the fuel gauge was last to go 3 days ago. i fill up my tank it still reads empty with the light. my tailgate door the latch locks up. i manually have to move to latch so it closes. my doors sticking when the car is unlocked and it hard to get out the locks don't unlatch the first time. my car is very nice until u get in it to see everything is malfunctioning. i guess my speed, gas level and that's not cool. i been going through these same problems since 2011 and it's 2014. the fuel gauge was the last to go recently. when i fill up my tank it still reads empty with the indicator light. my repair was $565 we thought it was exhaust leak and had to replace the entire manifold it was cracked... i absolutely can't afford anything else and i need tires.please help i'm furious. . when you purchase a vehicle you expect it to last. that doesn't. my mechanics have been the same since day one and have given me every discount and warranty . i want my vehicle repaired i can't physically cause this type of damage . it's internal and not my fault. i have never had a car with this temperament . i have had 4 cars previous to this one and they lasted through the years until i decided to change cars. everyone has the same problems with their vehicle as i do . how is that possible? manufacturers should value quality not quantity. i have every single document to verify this as well as my mechanics. i would like my vehicle repaired and to be reimbursed. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer xlt. the contact stated while driving 35 mph, there was a burning or smoke odor and the vehicle stalled. in addition, the fuel level gauge failed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the fuel level sensor and the air auxiliary valve was defective and would need replacing. the vehicle was not repaired. there were no related recalls to the failure. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 58,000.
The fuel gauge began to be inaccurate. it would occasionally work but not consistently. after about 2 months the gauge stopped working completely. the problem was the sensor in the gas tank malfunctioned and needed replaced. once the sensor replaced the gas gauge works accurately. the cost of the replacement was $465. *kb
Fuel gauge does not work, even when i have a full tank the gauge shows almost empty. *tr
I own a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the vehicle's gas guage began fluctuating and has since completely went out. *tt
There is a chevrolet issue with the gas gauges that chevrolet will not take full responsibility for. they are asking customers to pay 1/2 which can cost us to $300 or more for the customer. the gas gauge is registering full then empty without notice. the gauge lights up empty even when the tank is full. we never know how much gas is in the car. i have scheduled an appointment to have this fixed but chevrolet is not covering the entire cost and this is truly a manufacturer recall. *jb
I purchased the vehicle in february, and the fuel gauge worked fine. a few weeks later, as i was driving, the vehicle stalled. confused, as the gas gauge read 1/2 a tank remaining, i called a friend to come pick me up. he put gas in the tank, and it started up first try. i made it to a fuel station, and filled the tank. the gauge read half all the way to the station, and when i filled it, it read empty for the first 40-50 miles. then, the needle floated the range of the gauge. it has been doing this ever since. *tr
After stopping to fill up the gas tank on my vehicle, the fuel gauge registered that my car had no fuel. i filled the tank entirely, to the cost of $64.00, and when i started the car, the "low fuel" warning appeared. i tried to turning the car off and then on again, but the fuel system still registered that the gas tank was empty. i then tried to reset the internal computer by disconnecting the battery terminal. this also proved ineffective. after driving approximately 15 miles or so, the gas gauge fluctuated between an "empty" reading and a "1/2 tank" reading. upon stopping finally about 4 miles later (total of approximately 20 miles driven after filling the tank to "full") the fuel gauge went back to an "empty" reading, and has since remained there. i now have no way of knowing how much fuel is in my gas tank aside from tracking my mileage on my trip odometer, and "estimating" as to how much gas has been used, taking into account driving conditions, driving tendencies, highway versus city travel, etc. all factors considered, it is virtually impossible to track how much gas is in my car at all times, which poses a safety risk to myself, any of my passengers, and other drivers.
The fuel indicator hasn't worked for over a year now and it has stalled and would not start for a while. after sitting for about 15 minutes it did start.
[xxx] of kodiak, alaska petitioned the agency in a letter dated november 12, 2011. the petitioner requests that nhtsa open an investigation into the performance/reliability of the fuel level sensor installed in model year 2005 chevrolet trailblazer vehicles. the petitioner alleges that the fuel tank level sensor is defective and could result in a subject vehicle running out of fuel, stall, and being rear ended by another vehicle. odi will evaluate the petition for a grant or deny decision. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Gas gauge -2005 chevy suv trailblazer fill up with gas the hand goes way past full then show i have 3/4 tank then put gas in takes 12 gal. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact noticed that the fuel gauge was reading inaccurately and he was unable to determine how much fuel was in the vehicle. the dealer advised the contact that there were no related recalls to the failure. the contact did not inform the manufacturer of the failure nor was the vehicle diagnosed or repaired. the current mileage was approximately 74,000 and the failure mileage was approximately 71,000.
Gas gauge does not accurately account for what is in the fuel tank. after filling the tank up with gasoline the gauge will go to empty and the low fuel light will come on. the gauge will move from full to empty periodically. have been using the digital fuel used readout to gauge when i need to refuel.
We own a 2005 chevy trailblazer and the gas gauge is not working. when we put fuel into the tank it registers on full then quickly will go down to empty. the gauge will then go up to half or a quarter then back to empty. therefore you are never really sure of the amount of gas there is in the tank. we try and watch the mileage to use that as a guide but when we are constantly putting in a couple of gallons just be sure we have gas we lose track. i am so afraid that i or one of my family members will be stranded from running out of gas. i tried contacting chevrolet but was unsuccessful in any kind of resolution. i have researched this problem online and found many instances of trailblazer owners with the same problem. *tr
The fuel gauge fails to function. it indicates a fuel level of between empty to 1/4 tank regardless of the actual fuel level. *tr
Fuel gauge is constantly on empty. dings constantly. fill it often because i don't know if it will shut off on me in the middle of the road or not. i have tried putting in 5.00 or filling the tank. it never goes to full on the gauge. it is getting worse, used to go to half, now only goes to quarter full even when i fill it up. *tr
2005 chevy trailblazer fuel sensor. does not read correctly, and after fill up, the gauge goes to empty. *tr
Fuel pump/ fuel level sensor 2005 chevy trailblazer. show inaccurate fuel level at all times. *tr
The fuel gauge has not been working for months. after approximately 5 gallons are used of the 20 gallon tank, it will read empty and the engine light will go off. on christmas eve, our family of 4 including two toddlers was stranded on the side of the highway because we ran out of gas due to the inaccurate fuel gauge, and when the towtruck arrived there was not enough gas to start the truck because they only bring $5 and with today's gas prices it equates to less than 2 gallons. we had to then be towed to a gas station, moving car seats into the tow truck and the toddlers screaming on the side of the highway because they didn't know what was going on, to fill the rest of the tank. while gm has offered to help (only 50%, even though this is a known problem, they are only admitting premature failure) with the cost of the repair, they won't cover it for me because i have over 120,000 miles currently, which they stated you must have less than for them to cover the 50%, even though i had less than 120,000 when the problem started occurring. even upon filling the tank, it takes about a day for the gauge to read full, and then it begins to fall steadily, not reflecting the actual amount in the tank. *tr
Gas gauge malfunctioning, engine light keeps coming on and off. in looking at different web-sites, this is common for this vehicle. i purchased the vehicle on 06/20/2010 and have had several things go wrong in the (8) months that i have owned it.
Chevrolet trailblazer has faulty fuel sending unit, making vehicle show inaccurate levels of fuel remaining. vehicle has run out of fuel and stalled on side of road due to faulty readings. *tt
Just filled my tank on my chevy trailblazer with fuel and fuel gauge still registered empty and fuel light come on. *tr
I have any issues with my fuel gauge and dash reading for years now. i thought it was an issue with just my truck but in reading other complaints it seems as there is an issue. i bought my truck new and currently have 178,000 miles on it. i was told bythe dealer that the gas gauge issue would not be covered as it's 10 years or 120,000 which every came first. my dash board has not been working for some time first it was the speedometer and then the oil and other's components soon followed. *tr
The fuel level sensor went bad on my 2005 chevrolet trailblazer causing me to run out of gas twice so far. once i was on a rural road, the second time i was on the thruway and almost caused an accident with my two young children in the car. *tr
Yes my fuel gauge does not tell me the correct fuel amount in the fuel tank ,when i fill my tank up with gas. the gauge goes to empty and when driving it goes back and forth between empty and full its just a inconvenience not knowing if you are going to run out of gas or not there should be a recall on this vehicle because this seems like a ongoing problem also ill be driving and the headlights will just start flickering on and off please recall this vehicle and have gm fix this problem thank you . *tr
2005 chevy trailblazer fuel gauge show a empty with full tank of gas and sometimes it shows 1/4 tank when tank is full. *tr
Fuel is always shown as empty even though i put gas in it. blower on ac/heat quit working
Gas does not register when i fill up the tank. still reads "empty". i have noticed on several websites that this is a very common problem and should be a recall. i travel w/small children in the vehicle and it is very dangerous to not know what exactly the fuel level is. i use the trip meter to hold me over, but it can be very hard to determine the amounts while using the trip meter for other recordings. i have had an estimate, but it is over $800 to have fixed and with this economy, that is just impossible to swing for such a common issue. *tr
My fuel sending unit started reading empty when it was full. the needle would go up and down. never knew if it was right. i actually ran out of gas in my driveway because it said i had a 1/4 tank, when in fact i was on empty! *kb
I have a 2005 trailblazer that sometime the gas guage works and sometimes it won't . i have talked to several other people with 2005 trailblazer and they have the same issue. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. while fueling the vehicle, the contact stated that the fuel gauge suddenly dropped to empty and the fuel light illuminated. the vehicle had not been inspected or repaired. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 43,000.
I was at the gas station filling my tank and the check engine light flashed on and then the low fuel warning message came on in the message center along with the low fuel indicator by the fuel gauge. i turned the truck off and on and the warning message and low fuel light stayed on. after driving for a while, it eventually goes off, but the fuel gauge does not register more than a 1/4 of a tank even when filled up and the warning message comes on along with the low fuel indicator as soon as i start the truck after filling the tank and when the truck is idling, the low fuel message and light come on. another issue with the truck is that the lighting system dims while driving and when i bought this issue up at the dealership, they said it was a known issue with the truck, but did nothing to correct the problem.
Our 2005 trailblazer is having the same issue as every complaint i have read on this site. the fuel gauge is not working and the speedometer sticks after driving for about 20 minutes. i read that there has been a petition involving this particular problem. i will be getting more involved with this. i will be also calling. *tr
The fuel gauge on 2005 chevrolet trailblazer showed over half full when the vehicle stalled while changing lanes on i-5. there was no accident but it was a very scary situation with no power steering and limited power brakes it was very interesting getting the rig over to the shoulder. once the vehicle was safely on the shoulder (and i quit shaking) i attempted to restart the vehicle numerous times and it would not restart. i called a tow truck, believing there was a mechanical issue. when the tow truck driver arrived and mentioned that he has seen other incidents where 2005 trailblazers fuel gauge would appear to have fuel while in fact the tank was empty. i our case we added five gallons of fuel and the vehicle started and i was safely able to drive away. *tr
Own a 2005 chevy trail blazer all of a sudden the gas guage stopped working then i was driving home from out of state and went from 50 mph then into a town which was 30 mph and the speedometer got stuck at 36 mph and would not go up or down the rest of the trip. i did not know how fast i was going and got pulled over for speeding. this is an issue. both of these issues with the 2005 trail blazer seem to be happening to a lot of people among other issues within the dash. chevy really needs to make a recall because after paying $700 to fix the gas guage, it went out again less than a year later. i was also quoted over $500 to fix the speedometer. why hasn't there been a recall on this issue!? *tr
Driving home from out of state and filled up the tank and the gas guage still read empty and was all over the place. it is not accurate and jumps around. during the drive i was on a road going 50mph and slowed down in a town to 30mph and the speedometer got stuck at 35mph and would not go up or down. i had a 3 hour commute and did not know how fast i was going to 80% of it. upon researching these issues, it appears to be a frequent issue in this vehicle and is rather expensive to fix, just to have it happen again a year later. this vehicle was previously owned by a family member and was well taken care of.
