I have a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer and have had to have both headlights replaced several times over the past year. my dealership has said this is a recurring problem they have been experiencing with trailblazers that are brought in. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving at speeds of 45 mph, the headlight failed. after several moments, the headlights resumed normal operation. this was the second occurrence of the failure. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnostic of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure and current mileages were under 24,500.
There are several defects on chevy trail blazers mine in particular is with the instrument cluster panel because it stopped recording the speed, amount of gas in my vehicle, essential to driving safety, proper speed maintenance and ensuring it wont stall out due to lack of gas in the vehicle while on the freeway at high speeds. in addition the night lights turn off randomly while driving at night and that is dangerous to me and my children when driving at night which i do often to commute home from work. there are different dates for the defects the cluster panel gage was proximately 6 or 8 months old, the manufacturer was contacted they stated it was not hazardous to my driving and that since it was not under warranty due to being a 2004 the best they could do was 10% off, i felt it was a hazard at the time of the report they fixed an issue with the turn signals but now my headlights are turning on and off randomly at night and it is scary to be driving at night and your lights go off and you cant see a thing. the lights have been malfunctioning for the last 3 to 4 months have not reported it because of the lack of response by the manufacturer with prior issue. *tr
I have been having a problem with the lights going out while driving. i usually have to pull over and shut vehicle off and let it set for awhile. once i restart it works. well now they don't work at all. i replaced the headlamps several times. i have to drive with high beams because the dims don't work.

Headlights continually burn out. replace every month! just replaced on 2 days ago and already out again! speedometer does not work. *tr
Headlights flicker on vehicle, interior lights come on, voltage drops to 10v. dealers state "nothing wrong" i been living with this issue since truck was new in 05. please ck website "trailvoy.com" common issue. *tr
Started the vehicle (at night), low beam headlights were not working. fuses were checked, they were fine. *tr
While going home from work yesterday, someone pulled up and told me that my rear lights were out. upon my husband inspecting the lights, he discovered that the connection to the rear brake lights is out. there was a recall done in 2004 but gm will not honor it. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while examining the vehicle, the contact noticed that the headlights had begun to crack on the exterior shell. the vehicle was not diagnosed and or repaired. the failure mileage was 105,000 and the current mileage was 120,000.
Low beam headlights shut off while driving. highbeams and fogs still work. problem goes away after vehicle sits turned off. occurances getting more frequent. very dangerous. *tt
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving 45 mph with the automatic headlights on, the low beam headlights failed without warning. the contract drove into the emergency lane and turned the high beams on. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for inspection. the technician was unable to duplicate the failure. the vehicle has not been repaired for the malfunction. the failure mileage was 122,000. the current mileage was 124,000.
Low beam headlight connection shorts out and burns, and heater and a/c controls don't work anymore when you try to turn on heat or a/c kills engine. i have already replaced the liftgate module, that fixed the problem of not being able to lock the vehicle and sometimes starting it. this all started at about 92,000 miles. estimated repair cost for heat and a/c around $600.00. *tr
First problem was head lamps went out for no reason, had to replace the lamp driver relay, so far its only happened once.. *tr
Since i've purchased the 2004 vehicle (brand new), i have had to replace the passenger side low beam headlight about 10 times. the vehicle is out of warranty and the headlight went out again. while trying to replace, noticed that the wiring is burned out as there is a short. i have read several complaints about the same thing and wondering if there is a recall for this problem. *tr
Headlamps no longer work (low beams). bulbs are good and the high beams still work fine. *tr
Instrument cluster failure on 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. oil pressure and amps gauge malfunction. mechanic quoted price $650 to replace cluster. emissions failure paid dealer approximately $375 to replace emissions pump. air conditioning mode motor actuator out; blower doesn't operate on high setting. dealer quoted price $750 to fix air conditioner. sporadic electrical issues-service engine soon light on-first time code read faulty thermostat cooling sensor, next it read faulty air mass sensor, another time it read faulty emissions sensor. mechanic quoted price $40 per hour plus parts to isolate problem. a person could go broke before fixing possible problems, considering no accident occurred due to all these possibilities. front suspension problems, hard to isolate. paid mechanic $135 to replace right side inner tie rod end. did not fix problem. problem occurs when returning steering wheel from a right turn, front right side makes a single "pop" sound. had to replace "burnt" headlight pigtails on front, and park light pigtail on right rear. property damage is considered damage to vehicle due to the complaints listed. *tr
Headlights flash on and off at night. sometimes cars pull over thinking i am a police officer. i was told by a mechanic that it is a known problem due to bad ground wires on the left(driver) side of the vehicle. *tr
The low beam headlight quit working after further investigation found all fuses to be in good working order as well as all relays and the dimmer switch, after checking the bulbs in the low beam assembly the bulbs were not charred or burnt and the filament was still in contact as normal, after reading some excerpts on another website this is an all to familiar incident. luckily we were not driving at night and no one was injured thankfully. its time for a recall before someone is injured and or killed from this type of manufacturing malfunction. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. sporadically, while driving various speeds, the headlights completely failed. the contact's visibility was reduced. the technician stated that the relay was the cause of the failure; however, the repair would have to wait because the parts were on backorder. the vehicle has not been repaired. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 75,000 and current mileage was 80,000.
Currently own a 2004 chevy trailblazer that was repaired due to nhtsa action # ea04021. very soon after the repair to the rear tail lights was completed, rear brake lights failed on both sides simultaneously. dealer indicates that the left rear brake circuit board has "melted." *tr
Headlights dim and flicker at random times, mostly at start up. dealer has replaced alternator twice and problem was resolved for about 2 months and has since recurred. *tr
My passenger side head lamp shorted out. on 12.31.07 i took it to the dealer and the replaced a burnt and charred connector. on april3, 2008, the head lamp again malfunctioned. during the three months i noted at least 10 other chevrolet trailblazers with in non-operating passenger side head lamp. the service manager at the local dealer advised me that the have seen this problem on other trailblazers. i travel at night and this is a safety issue. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving approximately 60 mph, the contact was pulled over by a police officer. he was informed that both the driver's and passenger side brake lights were inoperable. he drove the vehicle to his residence, checked the fuse panel, and noticed that the fuse was still good. the manufacturer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 04v527000 (exterior lighting:brake lights). the manufacturer also stated that they were not obligated to perform the repairs on the vehicle. the dealer informed the contact to bring the vehicle to their establishment for inspection. the current mileage was 71,624 and failure mileage was 71,589.

Headlights blink while driving and speedometer and tachometer stopped working. *jb
The problems started in 2006 and were very intermittent. there is an electrical issue with the instrument panel, lights, battery , and other unknown items. the dealer check the electrical system when it started, but could not find any problem. sometimes, while driving at night the lights went off, and i would have to pull off the road, check any fuses and relays, and then they would come back on. the next electrical issue was with the speedometer, which on a trip across to florida it would be erratic and indicate i was traveling over 120 miles an hour when my gps said i was driving at 65. after the warranty expired i have had issues with replacing multiple batteries which go dead every 4 or 5 days depending on usage. after the speedometer stopped working, each other instrument panel item worked on and off. this includes the gas tank gauge, the ammeter, the temperature gauge, tachometer, and the oil pressure gauge. they all worked on and off for the next 3 years, and now none of these very important instrument panel gauges have worked for over 2 years. i wonder if the electronics that effect the air bags would work if i ever have an accident. i have replaced many batteries, i still have to charge each one every 4 or 5 days or i cannot start the truck. i have checked online and there are thousands of trailblazer, and their related gm vehicles with the same problems. i hear that a recall was issued for the gmc-envoy which is the same related parts vehicle but there is not one for the trailblazer? i am dealing with these issues and hoping for the recall that we all have been waiting for. thank god i have a 97 toyota camry that runs well. i wish [xxx] would read this. i also have photos of the non-working instrument panel, and the 120mph speedometer. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Back hatch and window will only open occasionally if i'm lucky. tail lights went out once and i was able to get the hatch open to fix it. they are out again and i can't get the hatch to open now. i have been replacing head lamps about every 8 to 10 months. head lights are now going off for no apparent reason while i'm driving at night. i can flip on the brights and then wait a few minutes and flip back to low beams, sometimes this works sometimes it doesn't. the dome lights will not come on and stay on after i turn it off. half of the dash lights for the radio are out, sometimes they will come on if i tap them. the feature that lets you turn the vehicle off and the radio will continue to play and the windows will still roll down as long as you don't open the door, is not working. both o2 sensors are out and have been for a long time. i purchased this suv brand new from a chevy dealer. i have paid it off and kept up all of the general maintenance on it. when i took it in to get these issues fixed i was told it would be over $2500.00 to fix and that did not include labor. this suv is a lemon, if i was in a position to trade it in or buy a new one i would, and i would not be getting another chevy. i have never been notified of any recalls. i only found out about the electrical recalls on the turn signals and tail lights because a friend had heard about them and suggested a website to check. i'm calling the dealer today to see if i can get these issues taken care of. another reason i will not be buying chevy again. *tr
When headlamp burned out it was discovered that the plastic connector that the bulb plugs into had burned and melted. *nm
2004 chevy trailblazer - intermittent flickering of exterior lights. headlights sporadically flicker during normal night time driving. flickering may occur multiple times during trip and then not occur again for several weeks. problem began at approximately 50,000 miles. it is very frightening and is probably very distracting to other drivers. *tr
i own a 2004 trailbrazer that have the same problem as the gm recall on lose brake-lamp function or have brake lamps that are always on. on vehicles with cruise control, that function also becomes inoperative. . the national highway traffic safety administration contacted gm to inquire about the issue after receiving three complaints, and the company issued the recall in response, adler said. *nm
While driving at night, i noticed the dash lights dim and headlights dim at the same time. the lights then immediately flicker back to normal nighttime lights. it appears they are flickering between daytime and nighttime settings. when i took the car to the dealer, they could find nothing wrong.*jb
While driving headlights dim very low to the point that you can not see. doesn't happen every time. dashboard lights also go very low. vehicle taken in to dealership in april. tech says can not duplicate problem. car taken in again this time cd player will stop playing if volume is turned all the way down for more that 2 mins. in order to make it play again you have to eject cd and reinsert. radio was suppose to be ordered never received it. car taken in again this time different dealership found problem with radio and it was replaced asked for them to check headlights because problem still happens. they also cannot duplicate problem. after leaving dealership cd players stops play again. sept 28, 2005 while at bank drive through car stalls out, able to restart car. took vehicle to dealership told them about the stalling out, headlights, and cd player. after having my car there a week and 3 days there conclusion was that the stalling out was because the was carbon build up in throttle body this was cleaned out. my car has 19,000 miles and is a year old i don;t believe this is the problem. while there a new cd player was put in, i was told that the one that was replaced before was a refurbished one and it didn't surprise them that it didn't work. the headlights we were told that we were crazy at first and then after speaking with the service manager was told that my vehicle has california emissions which means we have a 2nd air intake on it that causes the alternator to drain causing the lights to dim. gm has told us this is normal!!!!!! i am sorry i am not willing to put my family lives on the line because i happen to buy a new car in virginia that was made in california. i leave in a rural area not the city so if i lose my headlights then that means i can't see. this doesn't mean anything to them. we do have a meeting in nov with the northern area manager. this is not a normal operation of a car nor should it be designed to do this. *nm
I was just reading the complaints & thought i would submit a few of my own. gas fillling is always a task as tank always seems to "overflow" & gas sprays out everywhere. i was told it is because of the type of filler line that gm uses. headlights constantly going from normal to dim, to dimmer, then back to normal, regardless of driving conditions. saw the one from the person being shocked, this too has always happened to me since the first day i bought the trailblazer. if i touch the metal of the door upon exiting the vehicle theres a large jolt from static electricity i assume. the arc from this jolt is very visible & i estimate it to 2 inches in length at times (longer your in the vehilce...bigger the arc). all the rubber trim on the backhath has come off. plastic lining used on fenderwells constantly coming loose & must be reatached. carpet around pedals has all come loose. i bought this vehicle nov. 1 2004 & it is hardly been driven with only 6,000 miles yet seems to be falling apart already. *jb
My complaint is on the chevrolet trailblazer. i have personally witnessed at least 8 instances in my area where the brake lights on the trailblazer don't work. the 3rd light on top of the lift gate works, but the regular brake lights don't work. every time it has been both of them not working. that leads me to believe it isn't just a bulb being burnt out. i have luckily not witnessed any accidents resulting from this issue, but my father owns a trailblazer and if there is something wrong electrically causing this problem i don't want the same thing to happen to his resulting in him potentially being rear ended. i saw one on i94 just east of i696 yesterday. i notified the woman and she said that she knew so hopefully it is just the bulbs, but i don't know for sure. *nm
Turn signal light not working properly after recall notice has been fixed. the signal light on my 2004 chevy trailblazer was corrected in november. it is now july and i'm having the same signal problem again.
I have replaced the light bulbs on the back of my car 3 times and asked the agency to replace the whole part or casing after i found a recall that the taillights were defective. i informed chevrolet of where i found the recalls , i was told this website is only opinions from other people that don't know what they are talking about. i was told in the agency that the problem was only on 2003 models and not 2004's. the agency said they would replace the whole part anyways but the next day a police officer almost gave me a ticket because he said i failed to indicate i was going to make a left hand turn on a one lane road. i've taken my car to the agency twice for that problem and obviously they haven't replace the part. my car is less than two years old and it has given me problems beyond that one. *nm
Dt: the contact stated the headlights were flashing on and off. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer three times. the dealer stated that this was normal activity. no cause has been determined. the manufacturer was contacted. they offered no free remedy.*ak updated 12/27/05. *jb
Blower will go on by itself when manually turned on, the blower will go off for a few seconds and back on. the back windshield wiper will go by itself, the clock will turn to 12:00 when turned off, headlights flicker while driving, when using anything electrical in the car such as the electric windows, the head lights dim.*ak
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving approximately 25 mph, the contact noticed that the low beams were not working, which caused him to activate the high beams. since that time, the low beams have worked intermittently. the dealer advised the contact to leave the vehicle in their possession so it could be repaired. the manufacturer stated that they were not liable for the repairs. the vehicle has not been repaired or diagnosed. the current mileage was 82,000 and failure mileage was 81,700.
While driving consumer stepped on the brakes and directional signal became disengaged. talso, brake light and the tail light became inoperable.*ak
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the instrument panel has not worked since she purchased the vehicle brand new in january of 2004. the warning indicators are constantly illuminated. she took the vehicle to the dealer several times while it was under warranty, but they could not locate the failure. due to the failure, she does not know how fast she is driving, how much fuel is in the vehicle, and cannot read the odometer. recently, the headlights failed and she took the vehicle back to the dealer. the dealer charged $91 to diagnose the failure, which produced a failure code at the headlight low beam relay cluster switch. the dealer replaced the low beam relay switch and ignition switch, but the failure persisted. now that the vehicle is out of warranty, the dealer has finally located a diagnostic code for the instrument panel failure. the dealer stated that the instrument panel cluster failed and would cost $600 to repair. the failure mileage was 9,000 and current mileage was 68,000. updated 4/14/09 *cn the air bag light illuminated. updated 04/17/09. *jb
2004 trailblazer has 40 second turn on of headlights and back up lights when remote key used to unlock doors. this has on 2 occasions has caused vehicles in travel lanes to suddenly brake because with the back up lights on blazer appears to be backing into traffic. solution: only occurs after dark, so must be relayed thru daylight running detector. needs to do as brake and turn signals do, flash on and then off. headlights have stayed on shining into a group who threaten me with bodily harm. dealer said a gm problem, they can't change. had 2002,2001,1998 blazers, never a problem. *ak
Whenever i drive at night the exterior and interior lights flicker and sometimes go out completely when i brake or allow the truck to coast. when i use the gas the problem resolves but since i have to stop sometime this isn't a good fix. the electrical gauge on my dash fluxuate with the lights going from low to high and back again. i've taken into 2 dealerships but they "can't duplicate the problem" i work nights so i am driving mostly during the night. how is it save for a young woman to drive alone at night without lights? this is an ongoing problem that has happened since i purchased the truck and has not been resolved. *tr
Headlights dim, battery gauge bounces back and forth to positive and negative. *tr
