Recently reported STRUCTURE problems on 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

The frame in my trailblazer has big holes rusting through it. a frame 100 years old will never rust through. the use of very cheap thin steel may result in a accident when the frame breaks in half. i find this unacceptable regardless of how old the car is the frame should never rust through

I was traveling down ih146 toward kemah, traffic so i turned in the turning lane so i could turn left at ih646 this car came out of nowhere ,hit my vehicle then i swerved into the other lane, checked my vehicle and seen that it was not damaged very bad. so i approached the young lady and asked her if she was alright and she said she was. told her and showed her the damaged to my vehicle ,she asked for my insurance information and i told her that i had the old one ,but call me in 1 hour and i will give it to you; so i did , she showed me her vehicle and stated it was a old car; the plastic underneath was hanging down and i touched it and told her all she needed was to put some more screws to fix it on the right front side of her car and the front cover of her light was popped up just a little .i didn't think that i needed her information cause it wasn't a lot of damage done ;and she did not give me her information ,and she did not call the police the time it happen was at 5:30pm very hot. *tr

Frame around forward control arm mounts rusted nearly through. bottoms of doors rusting from the inside. wheels corroding around beads which has created a constant bead leak.

When traveling on the interstate, the molding piece that surrounds the rear third brake light flew off and the brake light was left dangling against the read window. thankfully there was no one immediately behind us, so the part did not hit a vehicle. after many calls to area body shops i'm being told this is a "known issue with this part" and our only option is to pay hundreds of dollars for a new part from chevrolet and then pay hundreds more to have it painted and installed! *tr

When my mechanic put my truck on the lift yesterday to change the water pump, he noticed that the frame is so rotted that he advised me not to drive it.and for who knows how long, my wife and myself, who are both disabled, have been driving this, putting ourselves and the public at risk. when i brought it to a chevrolet dealer, they just said, no recalls on it, sorry! so now i have to figure out a way to get my wife and myself to doctors appointments, shopping, and all the other things we need a dependable vehicle for. we can't drive this, or afford to fix it, and we have no money to buy another one. did i mention that we are filing for bankruptcy because my wife was mis-diagnosed by a doctor, lost her job, and now is in a wheelchair? or that our mortgage is going on 18 mos. overdue?or that we have a new handicap accessible home to move into, but we can't get our current house packed to be able to put it on the market? *tr

Tl- the contact owns a 2002 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that while performing routine maintenance and an independent mechanic the frame of the vehicle was found to have dangerous levels of rust and corrosion. parts of the vehicle were breaking off with a slight touch of hand. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure and current mileage was 74,000. dt

The indicated vehicle is my wife's. we bought it brand new on 09/26/2001. she has never towed anything and has city and highway miles. we have had numerous problems: instrument cluster, rear tailgate strap, right rear brake light, (3) solenoids, spare tire dropdown and deteriorated transmission lines. i have repaired all of the previous out of pocket (except for the strap and the spare tire dropdown). now, my wife was on the way to the bicycle store in her truck, with the bicycle on the back. she was making a turn onto the main road when she heard grinding and squealing, and the speed dropped drastically. luckily, it was around 10am when there is not much traffic on the road. reading numerous posts on this website, it is the same problem everyone has had, the transmission sun shell, and no reverse. with 98911 miles, i was about to spend the weekend changing the fluid in the transmission to keep it to spec. now, i'm looking at a very expensive bill of which i cannot afford. $30 is easier than $1200. and, i'm a manufacturing engineer, so i check fluids regularly, even though the oil change stations check them. seeing that there are problems with these components, i think that general motors should produce a recall. i'm very disappointed that with all of the complaints, nothing has been done to remedy the situation. we will be calling the dealer that we bought the vehicle from first thing monday morning. *tr

Was under vehicle and noticed a stress crack in the frame on the passenger side under the motor mount. this looks like it can be a potentially serious issue and looks as if it has been there for a while. the crack is approximately 6" long and on the very bottom of the frame directly below the engine mounting bracket. *tr

The fiberglass cowling on top of the rear hatch fell off while driving, dangling only by the brake light cable. i had to cut the wire and remove the piece of body and light. went to dealer asking about repair, they said it was caused by "use of the tailgate during winter conditions of snow and ice." they said "we see it all the time." i asked, since it occurs with high frequency, if it is covered by warranty, bulletin or recall and they said "no, gm considers this an owner/operator error." in other words, on this vehicle, a 4x4, the tailgate cannot nor should not be used, in the midwest, during periods of snow or ice? alas, i am driving without the mandatory center brake light. please remedy this situation with proper replacement. sadly, i see this condition on the same make and model more often than not. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2002 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact was underneath the vehicle trying to remove the spare tire, but was unable to raise his vehicle to the proper level. he believes the failure to be a manufacturer defect because the tire is the original tire that came with the vehicle. as a result, the contact believes that the manufacturer should be responsible for the vehicle to be raised to a proper level to remove the spare tire. the current and failure mileages were 28,400. remailed 11/17/08. *lj

Fan clutch replaced on my 2002 chevy trailblazer this year and also a water pump second time. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2002 chevrolet trailblazer. in march of 2008, the rear hatch glass suddenly shattered. the hatch had just been in use prior to the failure. the contact heard a popping sound and realized that the glass shattered outward all over her yard and driveway. she took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the repair would cost $1,200. the vehicle was taken to a repair shop and, with the assistance of her insurance company, the glass was repaired. in september of 2008, she took the vehicle to the dealer because the rear windshield wiper malfunctioned. the dealer replaced the wiper motor. in december of 2008, she took the vehicle to a dealer because the tailgate was closing hard, grinding progressively worse, and the rear windshield wiper would still not work. the dealer repaired the failures; however, the wiper still malfunctioned. in january of 2009, the shattered rear hatch failure occurred again. the contact stated that no one touched the vehicle for at least three hours before the glass shattered. she took the vehicle to another dealer and they stated that it was normal wear and tear; therefore, they could not assist. the dealer also cited that there was poor terminal tension in the liftgate. the manufacturer had not been notified. the contact had photos of the shattered glass. the current mileage was approximately 77,000 and failure mileage was 68,563.

Remotes quit working, liftgate would not open, rear wiper not working. i had this issue back in may '05 and replaced engate module. same issues occurring again. i am sure i will have to replace engate module again. *tr

2002 chevrolet trailblazer with problems with car radio customer wants reimbursement for repairs**cc some type of electrical problem caused a loud pop to come through the speakers. the caused the radio to short out and the speakers to blow. the radio and speakers had been replaced several times. the amplifier also had to be replaced. the vehicle has been taken to the dealer on numerous occasions but they have been unable to correct the problem. the middle seat belt in the second row locked up as soon as it was fastened into the buckle. when the defroster was used the consumer heard a clicking noise. the dealer replaced the mode actuator and mode valve per tsb 04-01-38-002. the quarter panel on the roof seam sealer cracked and was rusted. the pull down strap on the rear hatch broke. the sway bar broke. a grinding noise was heard coming from the left front wheel when making sharp left turn. the dealer determined that suspension was misaligned and caused shield to touch rotor. the instrument cluster gauge was inoperative. the rear wiper did not touch the rear windshield. there was a high pitched noise coming from the right side tire whenever in motion. the dealer indicated it was improperly sealed. *nm

After less than eighteen months of ownership and having not even taken a lengthy trip our ls has racked up more head aches than a little. just a few months ago dealers wanted to charge over $600. for a repair of the "fan clutch" something that never happens to vehicles to our knowledge. i have owned gm products for many years; this will certainly be the last one! now we are faced with our dealer advising us that the vehicle needs all rotors replaced, as well as pads, parking brake, etc. how could this be? most vehicles get brake pads; this thing requires all the components be replaced due to rust! (sounds like chevy is manufacturing a faulty vehicle) we are not going to settle for it. in fact we had recommended the product to fiends and family who bought three of them. we are going to tell everyone of the experience, as well as recommend that they get rid of them as soon as possible because of such unpredictable problems. my recommendation is all owners sue to make chevrolet take the trucks back! we also contacted chevrolet about the unusual rusting on the underside of the hood, especially where the hinge is located - we were promptly ignored. *nm

Have had many of the problems i read on posted complaints: new engine required within nine months-one year of owning new vehicle, inside driver door panel replaced three times, change oil and service engine lights staying on, hood not closing properly, back glass needing replacement, fabric problems in back seat, etc., etc. and this morning it is a $200 problem with the headlight switch. too many things to even remember or name, but chevy has a pretty thick file on me and my vehicle. *nm

Noises coming from underneath the suv ,check engine light constantly came on and one night i was going around 55 mph my 15 yr old daughter,we heard a loud pop it sound like we had hit something in the road so i stop to see what it was, we saw nothing but the squeaking sound from under the suv got louder some day later jumped in the car started the car and there was that loud sound again only this time the suv would not move in reverse i could hear some spinning like noise so i took it to a shop and i was told that the transmission was striped out in reverse, and that some shaft had broken or something, the mechanic also told me that he had several people come in with the same problem the same model trailblazer 2002 what hurt me so bad is this was my first brand new car, i only had it for two years, and if i every buy another car it want be from gm, i also had problems with my tailgate lamps ,windshield wipers, steering column. *nm

The bond that attach my rear glass to my hatch door have loosen due to default dealer claim unable to fix need replacing with new glass. i should not have to pay for a factory malfunction.

Rear window of our 2002 chevy trailblazer exploded in my garage. there was no prior damage to the window and the failure was without warning. vehicle was parked in garage night before and garage door shut with no incident. upon entering garage next morning, shattered glass was found all over the floor and rear window blown out. *ak

Chevrolet trailblazer 2002, rear shock broken off the frame. *bf the dealer determined that the frame had to be replaced. *nm

passenger side door handle and lock failed to open or lock on their own. consumer was able to drive the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the door handle and locks were a manufacturing design flaw, and the manufacturer was aware that this was a problem but has no solution. mechanic replaced door handle and locks, but problem recurred. *ak

Instrument panel lights burned out. the left rear door handle broke. the windshield wiper and washer came on and could not be turned off. the headlights failed. the rear hatch pull strap broke. *ak *nlm no longer owns vehicle. *kmb

If the 2 u shaped hooks that hold the spoiler in place detach the spoiler pops up above the truck. when this occurs the spoiler is not wind resistant. this results in the other plastic spoiler attachments weakening, and causing the spoiler to separate from the body of the truck, and to fly into oncoming traffic. the spoiler was replaced. however, this failure recurred.*ak

Purchased car two weeks later was in dealership with problems when driving. was told tires were bad. tires were replaced. car has two noises when driving down the road and you hit a bump. car still has whinning sound in the passenger side door even though the seal has been replaced in all 4 doors. when you close the driver door you hear the same noise that you hear when you are driving down the road. has already been to the dealer for this several times but they don't know what to do about it. *nlm

I have had numerous of problems with my 2002 trailblazer. i have had to replace my rear tail light housing 3 times in the last year. i have also had to replace the clutch fan 3 times within 3 months. my hood keeps squeaking and has to be readjusted every other month. my instrument panel has gone out twice. the alarm also works when it wants to and the passenger side seat belt always locks up. on 6/13/03 it left finally left me stranded on the side of the road on the way to california. i live in arizona and was traveling with my wife, mother-in-law and our 3 year old daughter. i had to pay for a rental car and had to submit to gm to reimburse me for the rental car. by reading all the complaints on these 2002 trailblazers i think we should all get together and do a class act law suit towards gm. e-mail me with your thoughts. Problems with air bag dash light, fast engine idle, air conditioner, rear hatch inner strap broke, etc...*mr the airbag light was intermittent. the sir module was replaced, and there was poor terminal connection at the sir wiring harness, and was traced/repaired on the left side impact connector and the codes were cleared. the engine idled fast(especially at start up, and the fuel mileage was 13 mpg. the results of the evaluation and repairs were: passenger impact connector was loose(repositioned/connected), idle within specifics, the emblem had fallen off, the rear hatch inner strap had broken, the transmission seemed to take long to shift into gear(happened sometimes when cold), and the pcm needed to be reprogrammed(j6355 power train controller pcm). there was a thumping sound in the rear differential when shifted, the a/c would blow out cold air when the a/c indicator was off, hot air would come out of the defroster area on the dash when the indicator was set for heater on the floor, the engine made a tapping sound, the lift gate weather strip had come apart, and the battery kept losing charge(3 occurrences). *scc *jb

Consumer started vehicle and shifted to reverse and suddenly smoke came from under the hood, consumer could not get out of vehicle since doors locked upon starting vehicle. she was able to get out through rear passenger door that had not been shut properly. dealer determined that battery cables shorted out, and shut down electrical system. dealer was exchanging vehicle.*ak

Warped front bumper. brought back to dealership and chevy will not fix it. found others with the same problem. chevy says they are working on a fix. i been complaining since the beginning of the year. still waiting for the fix. *la

Hood is constructed of aluminum and is very lightweight.i opened the hood and attached the prop rod to keep the hood open.while filling the gas tank a gust of wind lifted the hood off the prop rod and the hood was carried rearward on the hinges toward the windshield.rear end of the hood was caught on a plastic molding under the windshield and the radio antenna.rear corners of the hood deflected and bent.the hinges are sprung and the hood is out of alignment and not in contact with all of the hinge mounting.the damage occurred as a result of failure of the hood to be restrained.wires to the underhood light were severed.at this time an assessment has not been made for damage that may not be obvious.this was reported that day to gm and the dealer.the car was inspected 12/21 by service dept (ken), who said that this was not normal.1st gm contact was mia pierce, gm hot line at 1-800-222-1020 on 12/20/01.she took report and said she would get back after she investigated.she called back 12/26/01 and asked if i had been to the dealer.she said she would call the dealer and call back 1/2/02.brad zimmerman, gm hot line called 1/2/02 and said he had replaced ms. pierce, would investigate and call back.zimmerman called back 1/10/02 and stated gm would not make any repairs, this was not a manufacturing defect and would not make modifications.mr. zimmerman stated that he made this decision himself based on information received from the service manager(?) at bass.my concern is that the hood can be lifted off the prop rod by wind and then can either fall back onto the front of the car, trapping a person checking under the hood or fly back breaking the windshield.i feel this is a safety hazard and design flaw and that modifications need to be made.*ak

Front wheel well liners are not connected to well frame properly. this causes debris to get caught between the liners. dealer/manufacturer notified. *ak the dealership was unable to fix the insecure wheel liners properly and the consumer was concerned about a possible accident. *yh
