#1. on 2 occasions last week, my trailblazer suddenly lost most of its power, and the engine light reduced engine power came on! i pulled over, cut the car off, then restarted it, and was able to drive home. #2. the seat belts on the front passenger and rear right sides lock up tightly the moment you buckle up. it locks up so tightly that you cannot move if you wanted. these problems showed while driving on miami streets. #3. on 2 or 3 occasions a strong smell of gasoline came into the car while driving. the smell seemed to be coming from inside the back of the car, but i was unable to locate any gasoline back there. on another occasion, i smelled gas outside in the area of gas tank.
The 2nd row center seat belt retract has locked into place the seat belt is fully reeled in and will not unlock. i researched this for the last 24 hours and come to find out hundreds of people are having the same issue with the middle seat in 2nd row not just the front passenger of chevy trailblazers 2002-2004 that was recalled previously. either way this is a massive safety issue! seat belts are meant to last 30+ year before they even show any kind of wear and tear, not 11 years. please issue the recall so we can safely strap our children into the back seat and not have to worry if the seat belt is going to maintain its function or not. our children's lives are at stake here.
Since i've owned this vehicle "new", i've replaced the drive lights three times for burned cables also, the passenger side seatbelts locks while in motion. my local dealer informed me that, that was typical of the passenger safety device.....as a passenger, once you set down and put the seatbelt on, it locks, holding you too tight, and virtually choking the passenger!! all other seatbelts works fine. and still functions the same to this day. *tr

I have a 2002 chevy trailblazer. all seat belts have worked except the passenger one sticks now and then when you break; it won't release. but i have a bigger issue. the middle back seat belt will not longer work. when you go to pull it out of the seat for use, it will not move. i've tried everything. it just stopped working. i called a chevy dealer about the problem and they stated they could look at it and fix it at my own expense. i understand things go on cars and it's my responsibility, but a seat belt that won't come out and work???? how is that my problem and not a defect with the car????? please help or advise. thank you so much. they may have to replace the whole seat and what would that cost? *jb
2002 chevrolet trailblazer with problems with car radio customer wants reimbursement for repairs**cc some type of electrical problem caused a loud pop to come through the speakers. the caused the radio to short out and the speakers to blow. the radio and speakers had been replaced several times. the amplifier also had to be replaced. the vehicle has been taken to the dealer on numerous occasions but they have been unable to correct the problem. the middle seat belt in the second row locked up as soon as it was fastened into the buckle. when the defroster was used the consumer heard a clicking noise. the dealer replaced the mode actuator and mode valve per tsb 04-01-38-002. the quarter panel on the roof seam sealer cracked and was rusted. the pull down strap on the rear hatch broke. the sway bar broke. a grinding noise was heard coming from the left front wheel when making sharp left turn. the dealer determined that suspension was misaligned and caused shield to touch rotor. the instrument cluster gauge was inoperative. the rear wiper did not touch the rear windshield. there was a high pitched noise coming from the right side tire whenever in motion. the dealer indicated it was improperly sealed. *nm
I have owned my chevy trailblazer since october 16, 2004. i am the second owner of the vehicle. i purchased this vehicle 6 months after a safety recall was issued on the seat belts on the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle. i have recently had a problem with the driver side seat belt it has extracted and will not retract. i took it to crystal chevrolet in crystal river florida for them to try and determine the problem. they have determined that it is the mechanisms inside the seat belt retractor. they told me that the system showed that the recall had already been done on this vehicle based on my vin number. i was told that there was nothing that they would do for me unless i wanted to pay them 325.00 to repair it. i don't feel that this should be an expense i should incur due to the fact that the recall clearly states that when sent in for the recall it would only be replaced if necessary. i feel that at that time there may have not been a problem with it therefore it wouldn't have been replaced and now that i am having problems with i am told that it can't be repaired due to me not being the 1st owner and that it was already brought in to gm for this problem. this is clearly a safety issue that should be definitely taken care of on the behalf of gm. there is no proof that this vehicles problem was actually replaced at the time of the recall. *jb
Dt*: the contact stated while parked the driver side seat belt locked up and would not retract. the vehicle was taken to a service dealer for nhtsa recall, # 04v201000 regarding seat belts. after a year, the same issue recurred. updated 11/16/06. *jb the air bag light illuminated. the shifter would stick when trying to move it from park to drive. the moonroof would not close
Dt*: the contact stated twice while the child safety seat was buckled into the vehicle, the rear driver side seat belt unlatched. the vehicle has not been inspected by a mechanic.
Passenger seat belt mechanism locks during normal driving conditions. i brought this to 2 different dealers on 1/25/06 and 1/13/07. both dealers could not recreate the problem. i called chevrolet customer service which acknowledged a seatbelt recall on 02 trailblazers but claimed it does not cover my vin. chevy needs to extends this recall before serious injury occurs. *tr
We have not had any injuries, yet. the passenger seat belt locks up and will not release unless you take the seat belt off. i have contacted the chevy recall #, but they did not resolve the issue. i did take the vehicle to the dealer when issued the recall, but they did nothing. i do have dated document that states the seat belt retractor needs to be replaced, but they would not replace it under the recall. *jb
Dt: on black top with no shoulders, the eye witness states: got close to the right shoulder and over corrected and went off the left shoulder, the vehicle flipped and went into a steep ditch and rolled about 5 times, came down on drivers side rear tail light first time, when stopped rolling on the passenger side. consumer was hanging by the seat belt. the lap belt held but shoulder harness did not. the consumer hit multiple things inside the cab of the vehicle. consumer suffered several injuries. *nm
While stopping at a light consumer's vehicle was rear ended and pushed head on into another vehicle. upon impact, the dual airbags deployed. however. passenger's side seat belt did not hold. as a result the passenger hit her head on the dashboard. vehicle was considered a total loss. *ak
Sharp turn steering locks up. passenger seat belt gets tighter and tighter doesn't release pressure. 4 wheel drive not working . tapping sound in engine. the only thing the dealer has done is replace power steering pump and within 5 miles it was not working again. *jb
Front driver's side seat belt shoulder restraint did not lock (retractor) when vehicle was involved in rear end collision with a tractor trailer at 45 mph. also, none of the airbags deployed. *ak cw
Normal usage of front seat passenger seat belt. while using the belt in a normal way, the retractors will lock in a retracting mode and will not allow any movement of the passenger. belt must be released, fully retracted and re attached for a comfortable ride. trips to the dealer and hearing about "the design of the belt to do this when fully extended" have not prevented the recurrence of this scenario. it cannot be demonstrated on demand and because of that the dealer stated he cannot look into something he cannot witness. the problem is infrequent but does happen non-the-less. *jb
Transmission went out couldn't drive-repaired/ rear window won't roll-up/seatbelt won't retract, later fixed, but still won't work on occasion/ brake lights have gone out 5+ times repaired still not operational/ water pump exploded/rear window won't lock first try/ check engine llight stays on. *ak
Consumer lost steering and hit a tree head on. in addition, the seat belt failed to lock causing injuries to the consumer (driver). (lawyer on behalf of client rebecca doyle). *la the airbag also burned/injured the passenger. the vehicle experienced electrical problems with the brake lights, tail lights, fuel gauge, left seat belt, dash (computer readout) and the brakes pulled. *sc *jb
It appears the truck is suffering from a major computer defect. with all fuses in tact, many functions no longer work (remote access, radio functions after ignition turn off, automatic volume increase on radio when accelerating). additionally, the 4x4 torque converter switch does not light up and appears to be nonfunctional, the airconditioning quits and after alleged repair, stays on all the time regardless if set to air or vent, the rear hatch is defective and can't be opened, the tail lights have burnt out three times and two headlighrs have burnt out.
I bought a 2002 chevrolet trailblazer lt new about 10 months ago the truck has been in for service many times for different things as for seatbelt looking up and wont release, brake lights failing, derectionals that blowout every few days,radio/cd player wasnt working, leakage of water everytime it rained etc etc.. anyways i just took it back on 6-9-03 for seatbelt to be done again and for the derectional that failed again and also to have truck inspected i picked it up later that day and found that the inspection sticker had a wrong vin # on it and that other work was done i left there knowing they said they dont know why the light in derectional keeps failing but they did change the bulbs { this is everytime i bring it this is all they do to fix it} on 6-10-03 the derectional wasnt working again my husband changed the light bulb this time due to the fact it takes me almost 40 mins to get to dealership .....i will be going to the dealership to ask for a copy of the history on truck and will be getting a lawyer involved and also contact the dealers commintion and channel 12 on this matter .....i payed almost 30,000 for a truck that is not worth it and i am a very unhappy costumer ..*ak
Car seats installed in our 2002 chevy trailblazer are flipped to their side by the seat belts. we have had it installed by 4 diferent people and it continues to happen, the carseat currently not installed to our liking and comfort. chevrolet aware of problem, and state they cannot help us at this time. *ak
Dt: consumer has problems with right front seat belt locking up. the problem has been happening since consumer bought the car. consumer attempted to fix it 2 times. if consumer moves forward even an inch it locks up. consumer has to unlatch seat belt to keep the seat belt from retracking. *tt *nm
When my car was within the manufacturer's warranty, the seat belt and air bag light would come on intermittently. dealer could not duplicate. now the lights come on and or blink continuously. service bulletin seems to match 02v222000. dealer says no recalls match complaint. mechanic says there are no codes. the module that controls the seat belt and airbags has malfunctioned. two other modules have been replaced under extended warranty, will not cover anything related to safety. parts and labor are $500.00 alone! *jb
The passenger's side seat belt will continuously tighten up after it is buckled. manufacturer claims that this is the way the belt is designed for the use with child safety seats.*ak
The seat belts in the front do not retract, and the shoulder belt coming across too high. dealer changed the seat belts twice, but the problem had not been resolved. *ak
Front passenger window shattered for no apparent reason-heard a pop, and the entire window shattered. for the rear seatbelts, the inertia locks activate and the belts lock up too easily, trapping the passenger in the seat. to release the belt, it must be completely removed and reattached. dealer claims this is normal operation, due to child seat safety design. but this design seems dangerous to the adult or grown children as passengers.*ak
Dont know where to start. squeaking noise when going over bumps (sounds like it is coming from suspension). metal grinding noise in brakes, ticking noise from engine, seat belt and airbag lights have come on for no reason, rear latch has come open while driving, tail lights and brake lights burning out freqently, transmission was slipping on take off, no cause found in the several times it has been taken in for this. now my transmission is out. just happened yesturday. don't feel like i can blame the dealership after reading all the complaints. i think the fault lies on the shoulders of gm. *ak
I have had numerous of problems with my 2002 trailblazer. i have had to replace my rear tail light housing 3 times in the last year. i have also had to replace the clutch fan 3 times within 3 months. my hood keeps squeaking and has to be readjusted every other month. my instrument panel has gone out twice. the alarm also works when it wants to and the passenger side seat belt always locks up. on 6/13/03 it left finally left me stranded on the side of the road on the way to california. i live in arizona and was traveling with my wife, mother-in-law and our 3 year old daughter. i had to pay for a rental car and had to submit to gm to reimburse me for the rental car. by reading all the complaints on these 2002 trailblazers i think we should all get together and do a class act law suit towards gm. e-mail me with your thoughts. [email protected]. *nlm
When front passenger moves forward the seat belt will lock up on occasion. sometimes you are unable to release the inertia lock and must take the seat belt off completely. this failure has caused me to be locked into the front passenger seat and cause great discomfort. it will not release without totally retracting the seat belt meaning that you must take the belt off while vehicle is in motion. i researched on the internet that others have experienced the same and did not consider it to be a problem until i was able to see that others are experiencing the same problem. dt
Consumer stated that both frontal passenger and drivers seat belts locked up. once the seat belt locked up consumer was unable to move. vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. but, mechanic could not duplicate the problem. *ak the consumer had a tire failure. *tc
In addition, warning bell continue to go off without warning lights. mr
Passenger seat belt has no slack once it's locked, causing consumer to be very uncomfortable. dealer replaced belt one time before for the same problem. the dealer was notified.*ak
Consumer states that the seat belt retractor locks up with out cause the passenger has to unbuckle the seat belt to release the lock. mr
Problem #1: passenger side seat belt will lock up and not release until buckle release is pushed. the seat belt tightens so that passenger cannot even make small movements, like opening the glovebox or operating the radio. this is a saftey hazard as the seat belt is particularirly restricting to my pregnant wife. to release the belt by releasing the buckle would be unsafe while the vehicle is moving. barton birks chevrolet dealer says belt is of "normal operation as per make and model design". driver side seat belt has no such problem however. problem #2: driver and passeger side power mirrors will change their positions at random. this is another saftey hazard because often you will not notice that the mirriors have changed their positions on their own until you need them to perform a lane change. mirrors out of alignment are increasing the"blind spot". to realign mirrors when driving is also distraction, all of which could result in an increased risk of collision. barton birks dealer says "could not duplicate customer concern".*ak
Passenger's seat belt retractor is locking up while driving. dealer notified. feel free to provide any further information.*ak
Seat belt locks properly on brake application then will not release and continues to tighten on passenger, to the point where passenger refuse to wear the belt. one replacement belt fail to lock up at all. have been told by dealer and chevrolet that child restrain in belt is causing problem. child restrain is only operational if belt pulled out all the way which is not the case.*ak
Passenger's seat belt would continue to tighten on occupant while driving. dealer contacted. feel free to provide any further information.*ak
