Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES problems on 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe

Took vehicle to dealership for engine light and complete power loss while driving 70mph on highway. was told uneven wear on brakes, that they needed to be replaced soon (25083, miles on vehicle)they did not inform me of the notice about uneven front brake pad wear bulletin #pit5377d. anaow at latest check , metal to metal, was informed of the bullein from a brake place. dealership was well aware of vehicle having defective pads and rotors, yet didnot inform customer!

Brake pedal becomes hard to stop at slower speeds. vacuum booster is not working properly. just started this week.

I am a police fleet manager that has an all chevy tahoe fleet. in october 2019, i received notification for chevy recall n192268490 and every vehicle in the fleet was taken in for the recall. the recall was to reprogram the brakes, so braking would still be possible even if the brake booster failed. however, the recall did not address the root of the problem, which is a faulty secondary hydraulic brake assist vacuum pump. i was aware of this problem because i had two tahoes already have a vacuum booster failure, which resulted in an extremely hard brake pedal which would not stop the vehicle. the problem arises during slow speed braking, such as parking lots or slow speed patrol. less than a week after taking the vehicles to chevy for the recall, an officer was maneuvering slowly in a parking lot. the vehicle experienced an extremely hard brake pedal and the vehicle failed to stop. the officer was able to turn the vehicle, barely avoiding a collision. obviously, gm's band-aid recall does not fix or even override the problem. the vehicle was taken back to the dealership, where the service providers agreed the recall was a placebo and there is an issue with the vacuum booster. as per a recent letter from gm, they have given an extended warranty on the vacuum pump, for free replacement. so, obviously they know there is a problem. the liability placed on municipalities, who have no other choice but to use their fleet vehicles with known braking issues, is an unfair burden and risk. gm needs to recall and replace the vacuum boosters! *js

Just recently got my brakes re-programmed and immediately they continued not to function correctly. the warning lights don't come on but they still do not stop in time. in a parking lot i could not stop and hit a sign in front of the parking space. will chevrolet fix the damage caused by my car. also noted in a drive-through cannot get stopped in time when trying to follow cars. and it backing down a hill at slower speeds car will not stop. brakes just shake when you try to push them. thinking of getting an attorney because i need someone to fix my car now

Hello my tahoe was in a chevrolet dealer on october 25 because of a brake recall, the truck was 'fixed' that same day. the only thing is that my truck won't start anymore since then. i had my truck parked in a garage since the day we got home from the dealer and today 11/13/19 when i get to turn it on it just won't start. also my husband had a car accident due to the brakes not working in april of this year before we knew the truck was on recall. he was in a city street and he tried to brake because the car in front of his was making a stop the brakes just didn't work, he tried to avoid the car by turning to his left but the front side our truck hit the back of the car. i have all the information of the insurance when the accident happened. thank you hope to hear from you soon.

After vehicle has been parked, when put in reverse trying to back out of a parking space the brakes do not activate and barely can get the vehicle stopped. . it has happened multiple times. feel like i can't get the vehicle stopped even pressing or pumping the beakes!! it's a matter of time before i hit something. very scary! when i shift it into drive to go forward they work just fine.

Brakes felt like they were slipping and the vehicle would continue to roll for a minimum of 5 feet. "service brake assist" message was shown and the brake module was replaced. vehicle was in motion 24 hours after replacing module on a major highway and "service brake assist" appeared on the dash. brake pedal was hard and braking system was completely inoperable.

Lost power to brakes - difficulty stopping at low speeds - nearly hit car in front of me - car felt like it would not stop

Brake failure/ hard brake required to stop vehicle. vacuum pump failed.

Experienced spongy/soft pedal and increased stopping distance. took vehicle to dealer thinking it needed new brakes and was told it needed a new vacuum pump, booster and master cylinder at a cost of $1,400. i was told that this was a known issue with several gm models but the vehicle was 2,500 miles/10 days out of warranty at the time.

At very low speeds, brakes do not work. backing out of drive, pulling into garage, waiting in traffic on a hill. push down on breaks and nothing stops. works fine when at normal speeds. dealership could not create issue at their site. has happened 10+ times at home and in parking lots and in traffic jams. began noticing around 40000 miles. vehicle at 49000 miles now.

Breaks failed on two separate occasions approximately 3 weeks apart while attempting to stop coming into the garage. breaks worked fine pulling into the driveway.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 chevrolet tahoe. while driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle did not immediately stop when the brake pedal was depressed and crashed into another vehicle. there were no injuries and a police report was filed. the cause of the failure was not determined. the manufacturer was not notified. the vehicle was towed and serviced at hendrix chevrolet (1500 savannah hwy, charleston, sc) for the brake failure. the failure mileage was 58,000.

When driving at slow speeds as in a parking lot the brakes fail to stop truck. this happened three times with in a 30 minute time period.

I was driving a 2016 chevy tahoe on a residential street. my car lost all control of steering and brakes. while driving the car veered to the right and hit a car, continued on hitting 2 more parked cars, drove thru someone's large hedges, and was seconds away from driving into someone's house but was stopped when i hit the 2 parked cars in the driveway. my airbag also did not deploy. two cars involved were totaled. again, i had no control over the steering or the brakes. thank god i'm alive and i didn't kill anyone.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 chevrolet tahoe. while driving at low speeds, the brake pedal was depressed, but failed to operate as intended. the vehicle was taken to heinrich chevrolet (located at 5775 s transit rd, lockport, ny 14094, (716)-514-4134) where it was diagnosed that there was an internal opening in the vacuum pump, which caused the failure while braking. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 57,361.

When driving at slow speeds, particularly to park, the brakes did not work. you can put the pedal to the floor and the vehicle keeps going. this only occurs when at a slower speed, in both drive and reverse. i have taken it to a mechanic and the vacuum pump has to be replaced. this is very dangerous and could have caused an accident, as i almost hit another car because i couldn't stop.

We took a family vacation to ny and almost died because our brakes went out. if you research 100's of people have had their 2016 tahoe brake pump fail. i am also experience my car jerking. i am beyond myself that a recall hasn't been issued because i am getting ready to go pay for a part that is faulty. you want to make this recall fast or people will die. you cannot have your brakes go out like that!! i didn't spend $50k on a cash less than 2 years ago for my family to die.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 chevrolet tahoe. while driving 5 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard. the vehicle was taken to rick hendrix chevrolet (located at 5665 airport-pulling rd, naples, fl 34109, (239) 301-3621) where it was diagnosed that the brake booster needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 40,250.

Brakes failed to engage on the vehicle when pressure applied. occurred multiple times. gm fails to acknowledge this as a known and widespread issue, yet with a simple google search, you can see it has affected numerous people and vehicles. sounds like a recall should have been issued by now but yet there are none.

Engine has been making a clicking sound for the last year. we took it in and they were unable to pinpoint the problem. within the last couple months the brakes seem mushy when pressed at low speeds, such as driving into the garage or a parking space. we have to push the break pedal down to the floor for the vehicle to stop. we almost ran into the wall in the garage because the vehicle wouldn't stop when the brakes were pressed. we took it in and they informed us that there was a leak in the brake vacuum pump. mostly likely this is why the engine has been making a ticking sound, because of the leak.

I have experienced "hard braking" of my vehicle. while traveling at very slow speeds, when i brake - the brake pedal does not go down in its normal fashion. i must apply the brakes very hard, and the vehicle feels like its not going to stop. i had recently read about this problem and document this happened to me on numerous occasions. it happened as recently as yesterday.

When driving at low speeds after i depress the brake pedal a few times, the brake pedal gets very stiff and is almost impossible to stop the vehicle.

My 2016 chevy tahoe shook so bad at 69-74, mph my husband was scared to ride with me. took to dealer they kept suv for 4 days and said it was the tires. i put new tires on but it still rides rough. now i hear it's because i have 22 in wheels that makes it ride rough. since the tires have been changed about 2 months now ive been having slow speed brake problems. i've almost hit several cars in a parking lot at different times because the brake want stop. i've even almost hit my husbands new truck in our driveway. took it to mechanic, put on machine and now said it's a vac. pump issue. i've had many tahoe and this one is making me want to get away from chevy.

Brakes consistently soft pressure especially on downgrades. came close to hitting parked cars at traffic lights. brake was pressed almost to the floor before it stopped. i have taken it into dealership where they have changed pads fixed rotors but still very soft mushy brakes. many complaints i am reading about this 2016 tahoe. when parked pressing brake 3 times is when it finally feels like it is in correct position. i owed 2008 suburban for 10 years and had no problems with the braking system.

At slow speeds the vehicle does not brake. to get the vehicle to stop you have to tap them repeatedly very hard for it to acknowledge that you are braking.

Brakes failed 3 times, once pulling into parking space, i rolled down a step driveway into street across street and into neighbors yard and once when a tech from dealership was test driving it, he almost hit the building.the vehicle was in motion each incident.

When driving at low speeds, both turning and driving straight, the brake pedal becomes so firm that it cannot be depressed. i am unable to stop the vehicle without pumping the brakes. the dealership is charging $700 to replace the vacuum pump and is familiar with the issue.

While driving at slow speeds or idling, my brake pedal becomes stiff and hard to push, making it very difficult to stop. this has happened mostly when i am pulling in to a parking spot. there was no emergency alert showing.

At slow speeds brake hits the bottom and vehicle doesn't stop. dealer admits brake vacuum failure.

I am experiencing loss of brake booster function at low speeds. i have read about the vacuum pump and the conditions match exactly

Loss of brake power at low speeds. took a long distance, longer than normal for the vehicle to finally stop. almost hit numerous cars. i had to apply the parking brake in order to avoid hitting a family in the parking lot at disneyland, in anaheim, ca and other cars. had the tahoe towed to our dealership, where they replaced the vacuum pump assembly.

Brakes do not work when going at a slow pace. have taken the car in 2x and they cannot fin anything wrong. just took in for 3rd time and this time i drove in the car with them. they confirmed they brakes are not working properly.

Brakes got hard when driving onto expressway tahoe has only 42000 miles and heard theres been alot of issues with the vacuum pump what i have read.there needs to be a recall

Hi im writing again to report on 2016 chevy tahoe vacumm asst failure / defective parts the tahoe had at the time of the crash 40,475! i had just picked up my vehicle from service at jack schmitt chevrolet for unrelated issue i was 2 miles from the dealership heading southbound on green mount rd. approaching a stop light i was slowing down coming up to the light when spider fell between my legs so i attempted to kill it at the same time the collision alert activated and i immediately hit the brakes but the pedal was hard and the suv was not stopping like i thought it should so i started making evasive action to avoid rear ending the car at the light. i pulled the steering wheel all the way to the right but the suv kept moving not slowing as it should have and hit rear passenger side back oh the car in front of me causing nominal damage to both vehicles about 12,000 for the tahoe which i got repaired so i chalk it up as my fault but i kept noticing the suv on several occasions seemed like it was still moving when it should stopped. months passed and i was looking up possible causes and on a web site a complaint made by somebody who's tahoe was doing the same thing that's when i filed a claim with chevy/gm somewhere around june 20 2018 and spoke monique hill who took my report and months later denied my claim and in the same letter said get your vacum asst serviced and i thought that was strange! anyway i did get it serviced at jack schmitt chevy in ofallon il 6186252800 and was told the vacuum assist was defective and they had to order the parts to repair also they had to give me a car rental because the 2016 chevy tahoe was unsafe for the road and that would be held liable if they let me take it and i'm pissed at that point all this time i could have been killed! i was hurt and hurt for about a year sure back and neck and they just denied denied denied! please help

Was involved in a auto accident in sept 2017 in which i rear ended another vehicle.i was traveling southbound on greenmount road in shiloh il. coming to a stop at a stoplight at about 30 mph, i was trying to kill a spider so my eyes were off the road but when the collision alert alarm sounded i immedietly hit the brakes which were hard making braking difficult there is no way an impact should have happended. when the collision alert alarm sounds the brake pedals became hard making the stopping of the chevy tahoe impossible so i could not avoid rear ending of the vehicle in front of me. now while driving the tahoe without the collision alert activated the suv stops like normal, only when the collision alert is activated does the hard brake pedals occur which to me is the opposite effect.

As i was driving the error light came on stating there was a camera malfunction. this is a safety camera/system on the front of the truck, which controls the stability control, speed, braking system, electronic bind spot detection, etc. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 chevrolet tahoe. the contact stated that the brakes did not work while driving at slow speeds. obx chevrolet buick (6166 n c croatan hwy, kitty hawk, nc 27949, (252) 429-5552) diagnosed that the brake boosters failed. the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall. the failure mileage was 20,000.
