Problems with 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe SERVICE BRAKES

On average, the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe starts to “feel” problems with the SERVICE BRAKES and its various aspects after 68 257 miles.

Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES problems on 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe

Since purchasing my vehicle in 2016 i have had multiple issues. i have always noticed a drip of oil in my garage that wasn't consistent and when telling my dealership about it they stated they would look into it and found nothing. i was driving down the road and the side door black fascia flew off, the dealership replaced 3 stating it was still under the 34k warranty. i had requested they replace/secure the 4th and was told it was fine and didn't need replacing. i returned for an oil change about 6 months later and reported the one that was not replaced is now loose and was told by the dealership i was out of my warranty period and would be charged an hour labor as well as parts, costing roughly $120.00. i then had my ac go out in summer of 2019 and had that replaced supposedly a recall. when i took my car to the dealership for an oil change in fall 2019 i mentioned my car was not stopping properly while braking and they informed me there was a current recall that would fix the issue and that was performed. i was still noticing the braking issues. in nov.2019 i started to experience misfiring with the transmission and not shifting correctly. i made an appointment with the dealership and on the way to the dealership it worsened and i had to get it towed. i was informed i would not get a loaner car as all of theirs were out to people with parts required without an eta from gm. i was called 4 days later as i had not heard back and was told my car needed a replacement transmission as well as a new vacuum pump as this had failed and is the reason for the hard braking. the transmission was replaced and i was told to pick up my vehicle because the vacuum pump is on back-order without an eta and "i still have my abs that will assist with stopping".

Attempting to back down a hill a slow speed lost all brakes slid of hill rolled 4 times. concussion, loss of eyesight in right eye.

Has a problem in the suspension when you drive it jumps like an old truck. recently replaced the front shock absorbers that we're covered by the warranty, but the problem still continues and it also feels too loose on the brakes. another problem, recently went out to a store and when i reversed and i wanted to stop because a vehicle was coming, the brake pedal became hard as a stone and does not stop the vehicle no matter if you brake with all your strength the pedal becomes very hard and, now the problem is very constant.

I drive going back to virginia beach va, from new york ,when i park to my drive way, no brake at all the break pedal don't work

The braking system failed while driving; i was approaching a traffic light and slowing down and at about 15-20 mph and slowing the brake pedal went straight to the floor. the vehicle was no longer slowing down so i pumped the brakes to try and regain some kind of braking and the abs system tried to kick in but was only partially affective and slowed the vehicle down enough to come to a stop after i crossed the intersection and ran over a curb.

We took this vehicle to the dealer yesterday for the recent brake system recall. we have been having problems with brakes for awhile but just hadn't taken it in. and then we heard about the recall so we took it in because it sounded like the same issue we had been experiencing. i can say that their 'fix' of reprogramming the software did not solve the problem. when moving slow or going from froward to reverse when parking, the brake pedal becomes very difficult to push. i have to put all my weight on the pedal to make the vehicle stop. there is no give either way. hard as a rock. this happens all the time.

Recalled issued by dealer in september 2019. i received the notice on 10/21/2019. recall # n192268490. i had the vehicle repaired on 9/13/2019 by a 3rd party. i called the dealer about reimbursement since i repaired the vehicle before i was aware of the recall. i was informed that since i had the repair work done by a 3rd party and not a certified chevrolet dealership i would not be reimbursed. is there any other recourse for reimbursement or partial reimbursement for my out of pocket expense?

My brakes failed in heavy highway traffic when trying to merge over. the vehicle was stopped then coasting and brakes would not work. got towed to dealer for gm recall n192268490. recall was performed. brakes failed 45 miles later when slowly backing into driveway. the faulty program that has been recalled is known to damage the vacuum pump yet chevrolet has only recalled the program and not the vacuum pump. i filed a case with chevrolet monday 10/14/19 and was told i would receive a call in 1 to 2 business days. i have not received a call back. i spoke with someone today who said the senior service advisor is scheduled to call me at 9pm friday 9/18/19. my grandson and i waited over 3 hours for our onstar tow and he is absolutely devastated by the fear he experienced. *tr

October 8, 2019 was taking off in traffic after stopping at a red light, approximately 5-10 mph. the traffic stopped, attempted to apply the brakes and pedal felt hard. rear end collision occurred with the car in front of me causing rear damage to that vehicle and front damage to my vehicle. approximately 2 months later was pulling into a parking spot at a low speed and could not stop the vehicle, felt like the brake pedal was stuck to the floor. pulled the emergency brake and was able to get stopped without a collision. took vehicle into dealer on january 10th. they reprogrammed the hydraulic brake boost but said the pedal was still hard and they would need to replace the mechanical vacuum output. the part is on backorder but they would not release the vehicle back to me because of safety risks yet i've been driving around for months with same problem. all recalls reviewed are suggestive if you experience this problem not a mandatory repair. why wait until someone has a crash like i did?? once researched this has been a known issue for months with 3 associated recalls. this is a huge safety issue, needs to be mandatory remedied. my vehicle damage was set to be repaired next week but now it has to be cancelled because i do not have the vehicle in possession.

Brakes were faulty. the car was not stopping at slow speeds. after going back and forth with dealer and showing them the 'diagnostic tip' out for this known issue, they replaced vacuum pump free of charge. i asked why they didn't replace the other items listed as recommended on the notice. now 7 months later, the other parts are leaking and need replacement. this should have been replaced at same time.

Brake pedal not responding. pushing the pedal at a drivethru window and kept moving. had to jam on the pedal all the way to the floor to finally stop, put in park. luckily no one in front of my to hit. able to duplicate problem several times; mainly when coasting and at slow speed. braking at driving seems to work better, still seems to be off though. was able to slowly return to work, with another employee following, and park. parking was difficult, thought i was going to go down the bank! had to use the e-brake. the vehicle is going to the dealership tonight! i refuse to drive with this problem!

Service brake assist came on and vehicle is very hard to stop even when applying enormous pressure on the brake pedal. this accrues at lower speeds and is very dangerous to the consumer.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 chevrolet tahoe. while driving approximately 15 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, but failed to stop the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the vacuum pump needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. elm chevrolet (located at 301 e church st, elmira, ny 14901, (607) 734-4141) and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. the vehicle was included in and repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 19v645000 (service brakes, hydraulic). the approximate failure mileage was 73,000. *as *as

after reading the large number of similar problems with the 2015 tahoes and after speaking with individuals in this area in business with gm, i feel even more unsafe than i have before. i was told that although numerous problems and multiple lawsuits with the 2015 tahoe's, that there has been no total recall with my specific vin number. shocking. i did see several recalls of great concern that i had not been made aware of. it's a hardship to have my vehicle in the shop more than it is in my garage. it's a hardship to pay to rent a working, safe vehicle because the one i pay $615 monthly for is unsafe, unreliable and a liability. in conclusion, are there steps an individual is able to take to resolve situations such as this? or is this something that one would need to seek assistance of legal aide to get the ball rolling?

Brakes randomly started not working. a lot of resistance, unable to stop, unable to push brake to floor. finally got somewhere and parked after avoiding three accidents, vehicle had to be towed. brake booster is bad. this seems to be a common problem with the 2015 tahoe. why hasn't this been a recall????

2015 chevy tahoe, we purchased two months ago still under factory warranty. i was turning around in the driveway, hit the brakes, and the brake pedal wouldn't move. it was extremely stiff, causing me to crash the vehicle into my utility trailer. i pushed as hard as possible and nothing happened. there was almost no braking pressure at all and my suv just kept going. i purchased this vehicle for my family but now everyone is scared to ride in it. i've financed a vehicle for years that i've had posession of for months, and it's most nesscery saftey function has failed. i'm extremely disappointed. i've always owned gm vehicles. as a 31 year old father of 3 small children, this was a very large purchase for our young family. now i feel i may have to look outside my trusted brand to find a safe vehicle i can transport the most precious cargo in. it's very disappointing . i then find out this exact issue has caused multiple crashes involving injuries. gm is aware this is a problem, lawsuits have been filed, yet little or nothing has been done. how can general motors knowingly turn a blind eye and allow this life threating saftey issue to go on in a vehicle marketed to families?

Upon pressing brakes headlights flash, interior light flash, oil gage and rpms fluctuate all over. stabilitrack sensor comes on. upon accelerating to about 60-65the car brakes for itself. doors lock, lights flash. losing power steering when shifting gears

Pulling into garage at low speed and brakes didn't work properly. a significant amount of pressure was required to stop. i pressed with both feet and barely was able to get vehicle to stop before crashing into the house. the vehicle was in motion.

Driving my car today and had a huge issue with my brakes. when backing out of parking space and noticed someone walking behind me and hit the brakes, it was like they were stuck. after a couple of seconds they finally gave and stopped, so i just thought maybe it was a fluke. this happened while i was 2 hours away from home. then on drive back home, i got stuck in bumper to bumper traffic because of an accident on the interstate. traffic came to a complete stop, so i hit my brakes and same thing, they were stuck (would not move). after about 3 seconds of pushing them as hard as i could, they finally gave and just barely missed hitting the car in front of me. i finally searched the internet to see if anyone else had experienced this problem. i was very shocked to see this is a known problem! this is a huge security risk! i was almost in 2 separate accidents today because of a known problem! shouldn't someone be notifying tahoe owners of this issue to keep the public safe?

Brakes became extremely hard to apply while maneuvering at low speeds, almost caused a collision.

Brake pump failed and needed to be replaced. gm knows of this problem and should do something about it before lives are lost, people are injured or property is damaged (from this point forward).

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 chevrolet tahoe. the contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign numbers: 19v761000 (electronic stability control, service brakes, hydraulic, service brakes) and 19v645000 (service brakes, hydraulic). while pulling into a driveway, the brake pedal was depressed, but the vehicle did not stop. the failure recurred while at a stop sign, which caused the contact to drive through the stop sign. there were no crashes reported. the vehicle was taken to team one chevrolet buick gmc (888-518-1576, located at 12899 garrett hwy, oakland, md 21550) where it was stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall due to the high mileage. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and sided with the dealer. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 85,000. vin tool confirms parts not available for 19v761000 (electronic stability control, service brakes, hydraulic, service brakes) and parts distribution disconnect for 19v645000 (service brakes, hydraulic).

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 chevrolet tahoe. while driving 25 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to turn and the precaution hydraulic system warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact was able to park the vehicle in a parking lot. the vehicle was taken to autonation chevrolet doral (located at 1201 nw 89th ct, suite a, miami, fl 33172, (786) 221-5786) where the failure was associated with nhtsa campaign number: 18v578000 (service brakes, hydraulic). the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 36,696.

Lost all brake boost while backing a boat down a steep boat ramp. was able to stop, but i'm sure a smaller person (like my wife) would not have been able to. the repair shop replaced the vacuum pump. i now understand this is a common, known gm problem.

Brake vacuum pump loses pressure when brakes pressed repetitively. while in traffic i rear ended another motorist due to brake pressure loss. causing damage to both vehicles. no injuries due to low speed but even at high speeds brake pressure is lost, if the brake pedal is depressed repeatedly you lose all brake assist. vehicle was brought in for recall regarding abs software update but brakes still feel horrible. tsb was issued to vehicles under 72000 but only began this year. current tsb does not cover my vehicle. i contact the gm regarding this issue and they told me that they will not cover my vehicle one make exceptions.this needs to be a full recall of the vaccum pump, vacuum line and master cylinder like stated in the tsb. someone can die from this issue if going down hill at speed.

Vacuum pump failed on freeway at low speed. chevrolet has acknowledged there is a problem but only offers replacement for under 70,000 miles. i am at 80,000 miles and had to pay $800 on my vacation trip.

I want start by saying i am a us veteran and 911 first responder , i have a chevy tahoe ltz 2015 i was going down a hill in yonkers , new york went my brakes gave out i pumped for three times until used my emergency brake pedal which i am not supposed to use at all its fairly new tahoe ltz 2015 ,the gm sent me a letter no recall i think its serious enough for a recall please recall this tahoe ltz for vaccum brakes this a very serious matter with this tahoe ltz 2015 the gm knows about the problem its serious ok . i sent my tahoe ltz 2015 on friday back to dealership in new rochelle chevrolet in a flatbed tow truck i would not drive it with a vacuum system problem brakes . they are saying if my mileage is above 80,000 that i have too pay to get it repaired i said no way its manufacture problem they need too fix it . please get in touch with (xxxx) or gm at 1-800-222-1020 they don't want fix unless i pay ok i will get the media involved if they don't fix this problem with these vacuum system /brakes . thank you for your help . us veteran, 911 first responder parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

During slow movement, such as approaching a stop sign in traffic, the brake pedal will get hard and there will be no brakes. this has only occured during slow movement so far, but i'm now concerned that it could happen at highway speed. the dealer offered a repair for $691.00 but this is a manufactureres defect that should be under recall.

Truck will barely stop at low speeds. replaced booster and still having issues. i was backing into a parking spot and almost hit a wall.

Brakes failed because of faulty vacuum pump. pulling a trailer at the time, lucky to be alive. please do something about this before more are injured or killed.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 chevrolet tahoe. while driving 10 mph and pulling a camper, the brakes failed to stop the vehicle when the brake pedal was depressed. the contact had to place both feet on the brake pedal and also applied the camper brake. the vehicle finally stopped after applying extreme pressure to the vehicle and camper brakes. in addition, the service brake assist warning indicator illuminated. the contact visited colorado springs chevrolet (670 automotive dr, colorado springs, co 80905, (719) 387-1072) where it was diagnosed that a new vacuum pump was needed. the contact bought the pump and installed it themselves. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 98,000. the vin was unknown.

While backing up the vehicle into a parking lot noticed the breaks where not properly functioning and took a lot of effort and pumping to stop, continued to notice a great effort and distance to stop and breaks not properly functioning due to a faulty break pump provided by manufacturer's error that could potentially cause complete lost of breaks. took the vehicle for a diagnosis and had to replace the break pump for $526.

While going at slow speeds, the brake pedal becomes stiff and locks up resulting in the brakes not working at all. this has caused me to almost hit multiple people in heavy traffic, parking lots, and drive through restaurant lines as well as almost causing me to roll through red lights into oncoming traffic. this has happened randomly over the past year (2018) and has recently became more common.

2015 chevrolet tahoe. consumer writes in regards to braking problems. *ld the consumer requested to be reimbursed for the recall repair. *js

I initially noticed difficulty with braking while backing out of a parking space at a very low rate of speed. the brake pedal became hard and the vehicle continued to roll backward, with full weight on the brake pedal. approximately one month later i was in bumper-to-bumper, stop-and-go traffic and the brake pedal again hard and the vehicle continued to roll forward. this issue did not occur during normal driving conditions, only at low rates of speed and with frequent, repetive stopping. i took the vehicle to a local chevrolet service department and they were unable to replicate the issue or identify the problem with diagnostic equipment. i was told by the service manager the problem was likely due to 'over use' of the brakes and the brake is designed to be 'pumped' rather than compressed for more than a few seconds. i took the vehehicle to a second chevrolet dealership. the service department replaced the brake booster vacuum pump and this seems have resolved the issue. i was unable to drive my vehicle for approximately 2 months due to fear the brakes would fail. the vehicle has 54,000 miles and was purchased new from a dealership.

Having issues with braking. occasionally at high speeds, but more often during lower speeds. the brake pedal becomes very hard to depress and meanwhile the vehicle is still moving, not allowing you to stop. happens also going in reverse. had a collision, hit the rear end of another vehicle yesterday morning during rush hour, 3/18/2019. i was slowing down to 15 mph, due to a red light, but brake pedal would not brake, becoming very stiff, making it impossible to brake, and stopped due to the collision. luckily no one was hurt. front body severe damage to my tahoe. police report has been filed. we bought this tahoe in fall of 2017, and february 2017, took into the dealership due to the braking issues, nothing was found or done to the brake system. tahoe is back at dealership as of today, and nothing has been found, according to chevy techs

Brakes failed while backing out of driveway. brakes were hard and would not stop vehicle. chevrolet's service bulletin indicated the vacuum pump failure will cause the master cylinder and another line to be considered "contaminated" causing them to need to be replaced. clearly upon further investigation this is a wide spread problem.

The vehicle lost braking ability at low speed. it first occurred while in a parking lot and the pedal was stiff and could not be pushed in to stop the vehicle. it is believed that this is a result of a faulty vacuum pump after a web search has turned up that this situation is happening quite frequently to other owners and there is also a class action suite filed in the state of california for this very same problem. this is very dangerous and there needs to be a recall before someone is seriously hurt or killed.

When traveling slow, like pulling into garage, brakes will occassionally lose power making it nearly impossible to stop the vehicle. have almost backed into a car because brakes would not work. have seen on here that there are multiple complaints about this issue, so i wanted to confirm that it is happening with our tahoe as well. also occasionally will not engage when you have to slam the brakes. seems a very dangerous issue. has happened a few times in the past, but most recently on 03/06/19 while pulling it into the garage.

Brake vacuum pump failure, every so often i am unable to break and it becomes very hard to step on the breaks. i have take i to the mechanic and they are charging me $1100 to get it fixed!!!

Loss of braking power at slow speeds going forward or in reverse. the brake pedal becomes very hard to depress and meanwhile the vehicle is still moving. also the brake pedal is very hard to depress when starting the vehicle in the mornings with the electronic start button. i almost hit a parked car on a parking lot when backing into a space with a car in the spot behind me. happened several times when approaching a red light traffic signal. i first noticed this approx. a year ago, but thought it was just a temp. fluke of some kind, but it happened sporadically several times since then. when this happened again at the mall on 2/16/19, that was the final straw.... better report this before something terrible happens.

Vacuum pump: brake pedal is very stiff and hard to brake when traveling at slow speeds, but it is very sporadic. when this happens i have to apply extra force to the brakes to try and stop the vehicle. i purchased the vehicle used in august 2016 and experienced this a few months after buying my tahoe in early 2017. the dealearship said they were not aware of any issues or recalls at the time i called. i continued to drive my tahoe, but with caution at slower speeds since i did not know if or when this would happen again. i ultimately decided to bring my tahoe in for further diagnosis after it happened again and began happening more frequently. i experienced the same stiff brake issue at the car wash recently on 02/16/19 and when parallel parking a couple months ago, almost resulting in accidents in both cases. i took it to the local gm dealership on 02/18/19 for an electronic power steering recall (unrealted to this issue) and they knew exactly what i was talking about when i mentioned it to them. after the diagnosis it was determined that the vacuum pump was faulty and it was replaced.

While driving at low speeds i am unable to stop the car by applying the brake. this happens when going in forward or reverse. the brake pedal just gets hard and doesnt stop the vehicle. the dealer said it is a bad mechanical brake vacuum pump that needs to be replaced. this is the ultimate saftey concern as i almost hit someone that was walking across the street, because i couldnt stop the truck. gm needs to accept accoutability and recall this faulty part

When brakes are pressed or turn signal used the middle interior lights flash

When braking at 1 to 5 mph, brake pedal becomes hard to press. it feels like the abs system is being activated.

On multiple occasions the brake pedal has been very hard and difficult to depress. as a result, it has taken all of my physical effort to press the pedal hard enough to get the vehicle to come to a stop. fortunately, these instances have occurred while operating the vehicle at slower speeds (during stop and go traffic and at stop lights). this problem has been extremely intermittent and i've not been able to replicate the issue on demand. this is a major safety concern due to the unpredictability of the system failure.

The 2015 chevrolet tahoe has hard brake pedals when moving in low speeds. the need for increased effort to depress the brake pedal has high occurrences in stop-and-go traffic and high occurrences of failures at lower speeds. numerous attempts at the gmc service department in dallas, ga failed to report issues with the breaks. after researching this issue on the internet, there are numerous lawsuits regarding this issue and gm issued a series of service bulletins regarding the break problems. according to the service bulletins, fluid may be found in the brake booster and/or the booster vacuum line during a normal diagnostic.

While driving 10mph or less the vehicle will not stop the brakes are very are and stuff will not allow you to stop nor while reversing! i've almost hit someone walking and someone car! i ran into our industrial fan in our garage because i couldn't stop. we almost lost our lives twice while my 7 year old daughter was in there becywe couldn't break. i've called dealerships and gm bout problems and they stated that they've had several complaints about it but it's not recall and that can not reimburse me especially if i ket a third party fix it. i'm unemployed and pay a note on this vehicle. i've had problems since i purchased it brand new! also the rear camera never work it barely work it's a very small one the dealership said they will install the regular one in that every tahoe has because mine has a defect and it's not the touchscreen that all tables have and no parts for this one but gm wouldn't agree with it they've done everything to the back up camera and it keep going in and out and has to have updated my link radio. that's dangerous. as well as the brake cable keep slipping and causing major sqeaking when going over bumps speed bumps and etc. and the motor mounts still not fixed i've taking it several times about the major shake and vibration from it while at lights or still and they've changed them out shaved them down still no help so they were still waiting on gm to come out with a part to fix it. my warranty has expired now this all needs to be fixed and replaced i have a daughter and we are scared that something will happen. the brake issue had been going on for a year and eventually it gotten worse and couldn't stop at all. brake pump and vacuum pump. what does it take for us to loose our lives for it to be fixed. i've had someone to fix the brake issues and it cost a lot and gm will not reimburse me please help i have proof and receipts of everything.

Tahoe would not stop.. everytime put in reverse brake pedal gets hard an will not stop. had it check out an was told it was vacuum pump. forward an back... was told also there has been several has done same...just got it in august.. i have put 4000 on it..

I have 77k miles in my chevy tahoe. recently, my brakes failed almost causing an accident. my brake pedal became very hard and i was unable to make a sudden stop. if there was another car in front of me it could of been serious resulting in major injuries. my vehicle continued to roll forward approx 20 feet before coming to a complete stop. when i contacted our local gm dealer i was advised to not drive the vehicle and get it towed. i've researched that many of this year and models have experienced the same defect with the brakes. calling it the faulty vacuum pumps. what is even more frustrating is in september of 2018 i felt vibration in my brakes and the tech recommended to reolace my front brakes which i did. my vehicle is now getting repaired but in the meantime there are millions of the models out on the same roads your family and friends drive on, totally unsafe. gm needs to recall and make this right for all of us.
