We have classified the 71 complaints from 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
When traveling above 30 mph then decelerating, once the car gets to around 15-20 mph it jumps forward. it's similar to when you drive a stickshift and take your foot off the clutch and the car jumps forward as if it might stall. it doesn't happen regularly. if i decelerate very quickly, then it does not do it. if i decelerate slowly then it does not do it. it has to be somewhere in between and the car is confused between staying in gas mode or switching to hybrid mode and auto stop. the car then jumps forward when confused.
Tahoe middle seat belt buckles have all come apart. i contacted local chevy dealer and they said it's not safe to drive uh no sh*t?! once again cracks on dashboard by passenger airbags and all over ridiculous! middle console started to smoke on 4/2018 and i have to have everything disconnected. i contacted dealer and they said to file complaints with y'all.
This year model has a serious defective problem with the gas accelerator malfunctioning. i have spoken to dozen of friends and family with this year model and above an all have problems with the gas pedal. this will lead to someone being killed if not addressed by the builder of the truck. the pedal sticks when driving ,thus causing you to accelerate when driving. i have almost ran into the vehicle in front of me. i have asked family and friends with the same type of truck and they too have has this problem.
The air/heat system completely quit working. no shop that has looked at it can tell what is wrong with it.
2008 tahoe 2mode hybird 6.0l trim: hy2 with electrical power assisted steering freeway off ramp 45-50mph a/c was on at the time medium setting radio was on at the time engine running issue. had a momentary loss of power steering in "emergency " maneuver... not only did the suv keep going straight the wheel locked up(like if it was off and would not move at all) everything was fine after that momentary loss of epas was able to come to a complete stop without accident... i had a good following distance from the car in front of me and they moved out of the way (fast)so did i. (look like they were moving out of the way of a object in the road) anyways no object in the road.. i did notice there was a recalled issued for the 2015+ model electrical power assisted steering but not for the 2008-2013 2mode hybrids that are equipped with electrical power assisted steering example: 2mode hybird chevy tahoe 2008-13 gmc yukon 2008-13 cadillac escalade 2009-13 gmc serria 2009-13 chevy silverado 2009-13
I drove my vehicle in the morning and then parked it for about 2.5 hours. when i started my vehicle the gas gauge showed my car was empty, even though i had just recently filled up and had only gone about 80 miles on the tank, my airbag readiness light stayed on, and none of my gauges were functioning. also, the light for the passenger air bag above my review mirror didn't illuminate at all. i drove it for a few seconds and tried turning it off and then back on, but nothing changed. after driving it for a few miles, i parked and turned the vehicle off again. when i turned it back on, everything began working again. i believe this is an electrical issue, but when taken to the dealership, i could not get it to replicate the issue. besides the obvious danger of not having any gauges while driving, my fear is that the airbags would not work properly in an accident.
All ip warning lamps illuminated, loss of power, stalling, gage fluctuation, intermittent door lock operation. vehicle was in motion on highway when this occurred. error codes include u0073, u0121m u0101, u0242 ( from dealership analysis). cause unknown. vehicle has been in dealership more than 7 weeks without cause of problem not isolated. technician stated crackling sound when grasping wiring in dashboard area. loss of communication between control module and various components occurs within one (1) to five (5) seconds. chevrolet issued tech bulletin #08-07-30-021e. dealership has followed this bulletin without correcting the problem.
Takata recall my 08 tahoe's instrument panel and gauges are failing to work at times. my speed gauge, gas and rpm gauge just stopped working. they started back, but i think it's a safety issue due to the fact i was driving it when it happened. i am just trying to find out and report the problem. the oil gauge never came back on, is there anyway you shed some light on this issue? i was driving on the highway when everything started.
Takata recall on my vehicle - why is taking so long to remedy this recall? i also have a few other issues i want to mention. i bought my tahoe in july 2016, my dash is cracking on the driver's side and from what i've read, this is very common and gm is ignoring the issue. my vehicle also started taking off on its own, took extra pressure to stop & rpm would fluctuate sporadically. after contacting a dealer, i was told there was campaign to replace the throttle body sensor but it had expired while the previous owner had possession and was told i'd have to pay for the repair and would possibly have to replace the throttle body. after replacing the sensor, my vehicle's rpm still fluctuates upon stopping and idle is rough. very upset chevrolet customer now.
My 2008 chevy tahoe ltz electrical system would go through a series of phases either when i try to start it up during a cold day or when i am on the highway. this leads to my vehicle either not starting or while driving not being able to maintain speed because the transmission begin to slip. it can also die without warning and the "check engine light" would come on for a while and can disappear after starting up again. i have taken my vehicle to the same service adviser/manager each time i experience this problem and also called gmac to get them involved to be told that they can not duplicate this problem. when ever the codes are pulled, there could be at least 7 at a time. i called gmac went i experienced this for the fourth time and my case number was 71-1326091502 issued on 07/02/2014. today my case number is [xxx] which was issued on 11/30/2016. i had many other number in between and custom service personnel (gmac) attempt to assist me and the results in the past has been the same each time. however, my vehicle continue to be unsafe. i feel that no one really care but are going through the phases to say that they have done all they can do. my vehicle started to give me this problem at about 107,000 miles, right after my 100,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty expired which cost about $2400.00. my vehicle also have a total of about nine plus (problem more) months in the shop at the chevrolet dealership over time where i purchased this vehicle with no results at the end of each trip but it was taken back for the same thing each time. i feel as if every one is just coving themselves by mouth work whether than by actions. all i know is that this vehicle seem to be a "lemon" and no one has the courage to say so. my vehicle is at al serra chevrolet north, colorado springs, co. 80920. there # is [xxx]. my # is [xxx]. thanks for your time. Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet tahoe. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 10v240000 (electrical system); however, the part for the recall repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the contact stated that the engine warning indicator illuminated, the radio turned off on its own, and other lightning in the vehicle began to flicker. the contact replaced the battery, but the failures recurred. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was unknown. parts distribution disconnect.
Takata recall. i have received two recall notice in the mail and took them to my dealer that i get services done, and they keep tell me that they don't have the repair part. i contacted chevrolet cooperate head quarter and spoke to them regarding these letters, and all they say is that they know about the recall, but no parts is available for my vehicle yet.
I have a 2008 chevy tahoe ltz and the door locks just quit working one day. on all 4 doors!! the key fob will not lock or unlock the doors nor will the lock or unlock button in the car will work. i feel this is a major safety concern. what if you are stopped at a red light with no way to lock your doors and someone jumps in your car with you with a gun! i have two small children and this is a major concern for me! please issue a recall for the door locks.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet tahoe. the contact stated that the dashboard has three cracks that were getting large. the contact mentioned that one of the cracks was located near the front driver side air bag. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was not available.
Dash, radio lights not working
I have had my 2008 chevy tahoe to the dealers 4 times due to stabilatrack light comes on, then my windows continue to click brake lights quit working windows won't roll up or down and sometimes the vehicle will not start. on the third time they said it was the mega fuse and replaced it. everything seemed fixed. i parked the car in the garage and pulled it out approximately 7 months later to get to my shelves and when i went to pull it back in the same situation happened again. i have not taken back to the dealer yet due to the extreme costs that i have continued to pay the previous time for it not to be fixed.. it effects the complete electrical system to the vehicle.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet tahoe. the contact stated that the battery drained and required replacement every three months. in addition, the engine rpms increased. the vehicle was taken to a dealer on numerous occasions. on one occasion, the dealer replaced the wiring harness that caused the check engine, the battery light and the abs warning lights illuminated. the failure mileage was 118,000.
There are numerous cracks in the dashboard around the airbag. i am worried if the air bag will prematurely deploy, or will not be able to deploy as designed with the cracks. my vehicle is a 2008 tahoe ltz. there are countless people with the same issue, with the crack in the same place. i have no idea what is going on with the electrically system and what the cracks might be doing. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet tahoe. the contact stated that the theft system failed to deactivate intermittently. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 110,000.
Passenger side door lock started having problems. would work occasionally. now, it won't work at all. has to be manually pulled up to unlock and pushed down to lock. i noticed over 450 complaints from others about the actuators going out on theirs too. seems to be a problem. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet tahoe. the contact stated that the vehicle's shifter indicators did not illuminate and the instrument gauges did not function. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the instrument cluster needed to replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet tahoe. the contact stated that after taking the vehicle to the dealer for nhtsa campaign number: 10v240000, (electrical system), the contact was informed that the heated washer module would be permanently disabled and removed from the vehicle. the contact indicated that by removing the heated washer fluid module from the vehicle, he would be unable to remove ice from the windshield during icy weather conditions. the heated washer module was an added expense when the vehicle was purchased. the dealer confirmed that they would not honor the recall repair until they revised the vehicle so that no one could install any type of heated washer modules in the vehicle. the contact requested that the dealer replace the module with a nhtsa approved replacement module but the dealer refused. the contact had not experienced a failure. remailed customer request 11/06/2014*lj
The front a/c&heater blower fan quit working, and now it and the rear blower quit blowing again. the first time it happened the front blower electrical connector was completely melted. *tr
Vehicle won't start, dashboard lights all activated randomly, battery not problem, all electrical not working, windshield wipers randomly activated. vehicle towed to dealership. this is the second time this has happened in 2 months. last time, battery was jumped and car worked for 2 months. battery checked 2 different times after, battery is good. had doorlock problems 5 times since purchase of this vehicle in 2008. covered under warranty first 4 times, and reimbursed on 5th time. this vehicle has had multiple electrical, sensor problems since purchase. i have never had this many problems with chevy before. reading other comments, this seems to be an issue for others as well. is there a recall for this problem? doesn't seem like other customers have received satisfaction with their issues either. what is chevy doing to resolve? vehicle is at chevy dealer now, awaiting response. if this was to occur while driving and all electrical shut off, this would be an accident waiting to happen. *tr
I own a 2008 chevrolet tahoe 4x4, i purchased it with 80000 miles on it. when i start the car or i am driving all my gauges on my instrument cluster pass beyond the maximum level, even my speedometer sometimes i will be going 40mph but it is marking 80mph. my temperature gauge, my battery gauge, my fuel indicator gauge, even my oil pressure gauge stopped working. the worst part is that my prndl and info center also disappear while i am driving and they re- sometimes after few minutes sometimes for days. the dealer said they have no fix for this, other mechanics said that gm has this issue on most of their trucks and suvs. i think this issue is very unsafe for drivers especially when all your gauges stop working or work improperly or disappear from your screen, i believe this can be dangerous to drivers as well as other people on the road and gm should find a fix for it. thank you *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet tahoe. the contact stated the engine failed to start. in addition, the clock would independently reset and there was an overpowering odor within the vehicle. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was contacted and advised that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number 08v441000 (electrical system). the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 78,000.
Power locks are failing for second time after replacing. the actuators do not last over 2 years. each door costs $300 to repair. there are thousands of posts on the internet with this problem in multiple models and years. this needs to be a recall. *tr
The locking mechanism on my chevy tahoe 2008 ltz no longer works on the passenger side door. the electronic lock/unlock door mechanism no longer locks or unlocks the passenger door as well as the key remote no longer locks or unlocks the front passenger door. it sounds like from reading the other numerous complaints regarding this issue i can expect the rest of the door locks to quit operating at some point. this is obviously a real safety concern. *tr
The company i work for purchased four 2008 tahoes new. all have had door lock problems. mine just happened on both driver side doors and it cost $741 to have fixed today at chevy dealer. i believe the other 3 tahoes were under warranty at the time, but not sure. the tahoe i drive was not under warranty. as others have said, you cannot unlock the rear doors since there is no key, and the manual button is not near the pillars so you cant reach it from the front doors. its a bad situation if you needed to access the rear doors. *tr
To whom it may concern; i am writing because we have problems with the door locks on our 2008 chevy tahoe. we have had a problem with the door locks in the past as we have had to literally climb out of the window to get out of the vehicle. it happened while on a boat ramp so it was an incredibly memorable event. we have been experiencing problems with the door locks again and took the vehicle to the chevy service this morning. their customer service rep called us to let us know that all 4 door locks needed to be replaced. the charges are $350 for the front doors and $250 for the back doors. needless to say we are not happy about having to pay for any additional door lock work on this vehicle. the vehicle has only 70,000 miles. this problem is huge considering that you can not get out of the car once a lock completely fails in that you have to climb out of the window to get out of the car. we request that a recall be initiated as soon as possible. *tr
First problem was the vehicle would not crank. the vehicle had to be jumped off and then it cranked quickly. while driving the vehicle, the window control, speakers and heater would go in/ out of operation. the speakers in all four doors would go out then come back on at different times. sometimes they would work all at once, other times one, two or even three may come on and off. the heater would come on blowing some times then cuts off again and again. the heater blower would also blow at one speed then blow at another speed without anyone changing the settings. the window controls will make the heater blow stronger, then when the window control is released it will cut the heater off. the rear passenger window controls will not work at all. the rear passengers also can not get out of the vehicle. the vehicle has to be open from the outside for individuals sitting in the second row seats. the only control that will work the rear passenger windows is the driver side control. the vehicle also has a light smoke smell coming from the vents. the passenger side door in the front will open for the passenger sometimes then at other times someone will have to open the door from the outside. the vehicle will not crank back up after been cut off, it always has to be jumped off. the battery is drained everytime the vehicle is sitting down and not being operated. the vehicle was taken to the dealership numerous times without being fixed. gm corporation was called and i was informed a recall was on some vehicles but not others. i was told that my vehicle was not listed as one thou. the dealership checked my vehicle and informed me that my vehicle didn't have any issues but then on a second request they informed me that my vehicle had a bad battery and was having firing trouble. they also informed me that i was not covered by my warranty. *tr
To whom it may concern; i am writing because i have had similar problems with the door locks on our 2008 chevy tahoe. we have had a problem with the door locks in the past as we have had to literally climb out of the window to get out of the vehicle. we have been experiencing problems with the door locks again and took the vehicle to the chevy service this morning. their customer service rep said the charges are $300 plus. the vehicle has only 84,470 miles. this problem is huge considering that you can not get out of the car once a lock completely fails in that you have to climb out of the window to get out of the car. also the front driver side window has been making grinding noises when it is used open and close. as this is also another similar issue that others have complained about. my question is why is this so hard to recall and fix? being that we spent good earn money to buy this vehicle and very much loyal to chevy's vehicles. what happened to taking care of your loyal customers? a recall should be indeed initiated to settle these repeated issues with these vehicles so customers can feel that chevorlet is indeed loyal to their customers as we are loyal to purchase their vehicles. money isn't everything however taking care of your customers can go a lifetime. it starts with the customers first. *tr
Drivers door and back hatch will bounce back open and not catch and then the door lock will not unlock to open the door by remote, door panel lock or by hand trapping person in the vehicle. spoke to gm, they know this is an issue but unwilling at this time to put out a bulletin or recall. *tr
While driving the vehicle, the stopped blowing and then begin to start blowing about 20minutes later. the vehicle also begin to smell of smoke at one point. the control buttons for the rear passenger windows stop working. the speakers begin to go in/ out of play and the rear windows would only work from the driver's door control. the window button then begin to control the level that the hat would blow at. door controls stop working for some doors at a stop and the door would only open from the outside. after starting the vehicle, the door would then begin to work again. electrical controls for the child proof were inoperable for backseat passengers. speakers going in/ out of play while driving and the heater blower also going in/ out of working condition. window control would make the speakers come on/ off at times. battery would be drain from electrical problems and need a jump-off to begin back working. battery, starter and alternator checks at dealership were perform with no problems noted but vehicle would still do unfamiliar things such as heater blower, speakers and control switches performing at their own times. heater voltage draining the battery and also causing electrical problems. vehicle will not perform as expected due to malfunctions of electrical modules and unknown control modules affecting the heater, speakers, windows and doors. *tr
The door locks have gone out on my 2008 tahoe approximately 6 months ago. our children cannot open the doors to get in our out of the vehicle. the only door that will currently work is the driver door, which only works with the key. the tahoe has a factor installed alarm system / key fob system, and does not control the doors to lock or unlock. you have to use the key to unlock the driver door, then manually open the passenger and rear doors from the inside, as well as manually lock them from the driver side. *tr
Cracked dashboard that affects airbags and electric wiring associated to dash and dashboard components. causes visual images on windshield when driving making it a hazardous situation. there is two cracks on this dash which over time will cause tremendous issues with safety issues associated to the wiring and safety airbags.
2008 chevrolet tahoe 4x4 v8 5.3l, check air bag light came on during a routine drive and no bags deployed. checked with dealer and they wanted $300 to clear fault code b0083 for a front sensor. looked online and many other gm vehicles have had similar issues with this safety related device. since it is of safety concern and there has never been an accident with the vehicle i would like the nhtsa to investigate gm airbag sensor component failures of vehicles with less than 150k miles. *tr
The doors fill with water after it rains. the water doesn't drain and begins to smell like mold in the car. now, the electrical system for the windows and door locks is acting strange. *tr
After vacating the car through the front driver's side door, the electric door locks on the rear doors did not operate while my grandchildren were in the tahoe. the doors would not unlock either with the fob or the electric switch in the tahoe. this incident was very scary and could have been serious. fortunately, i was able to reenter the tahoe through driver's door, start the car, lower the rear windows, manually unlock the doors, and remove my grandchildren. had this been an emergency, serious problems could have occurred. as a result of this problem, which has recurred many times, i am not willing to drive with my grandchildren in the tahoe, unless an adult is available to accompany them in the rear seat. *tr
While i was driving the air conditioner blower quit blowing and today when i went to a dealer for help he told me how to diagnose the fan relay, but it performed correctly. he also told me that he has seen before on the tahoes the a/c fan harness has melted before on this type of vehicle. *tr
The power door locks do not work. you have to manually lock them. they are suppose to automaticaly lock when the vehicle reaches 5 miles an hour for safety and they do not. one door lock was replaced under warrenty without my knowledge but now the other 3 are not working properly. the mechanic said that this has been a known problem with the tahoes. it is over $200.00 per door to replace. this vehicle is not even 5 years old and is under 30,000 miles. *tr
Dash has 2 large cracks above the instrument panel and another one at the passenger airbag. during operation, stabilitrak light comes on, all gauges go to zero, doors begin locking/unlocking, vehicle loses power, radio goes out and clock resets, lights flash, and battery dies as soon as ignition is turned off. numerous calls to gm and visits to dealership. no fix as of yet. this has been going on for years. now odometer has reset to zero.
The passenger door would not lock or unlock, with the remote or by using the drivers door, nor would it lock when putting the vehicle into gear. this is the second time this has happened. so now if you think you are safe, your are not. they put onstar in your vehicle to keep you safe how does that help if you are hi-jacked at gun point? you thought all doors locked when you put it in gear all but the one door that failed because of a poor design. or your child falls out of the vehicle while going down the freeway and because the lock failed due to poor design. please help us with these poor designs on chevy vehicles. i have had nothing but problems with this vehicle. clunking noises starting now when i turn corners. dealership states that is normal. omg! are they insane? i know that is not normal because it was making that noise when i purchased it. everything starts going right at the time of the warranty ends. poor window designs the windows are so loose they could possibly fall out when going down the highway. *js
The door actuators went out on my car. the vehicle is all factory settings. i believe it is a manufacturer issue or electrical. doors not lock using key fob or power locks button. have to manually lock.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet tahoe. the contact stated that the rear driver side door could not be unlocked from the outside of the vehicle manually or remotely. the contact indicated that the defect was repaired by the dealer but the failure recurred. the contact also indicated that the arm rest console with climate control for the rear seats became very hot to the touch. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 90,000.
I had just pulled up in the driveway at my residence heading inside an i heard a noise from the vechile! when i went to see the side airbags on both side deployed! i called insurance company and they didn't cover it so contacted gm an they decided to send someone out to the place where the truck was towed! now gm decided it was a electrical problem with the sensor an they gonna fix it! the truck could be ready anytime now they were waiting on a backorder part to come in. im still thinking if this vehicle if safe for me an my family. *tr
I have taken my 2008 tahoe ltz to the gmc dealership multiple times to repair the door locks / outer door handles. i have had two of the door locks replaced because they will not unlock when i hit the unlock button on the doors or the key fob. this is a major defect in this vehicle. it is a safety conern because i have a small child and i am afraid if i were to have an accident and i try to unlock the doors they will fail and i will be unable to get my child out without crawling over the front seats to manually unlock the lock. the same with the outer door handles breaking. i have had two of those replaced. i had to crawl over the passenger seat at one point to be able to get in the vehicle until i could get it to the dealership. i have searched the internet and see there are several complaints about these issues, yet there are no recalls. please help us. *tr
While the vehicle is in motion, the door locks begin to cycle (up and down), the clock resets itself to twelve, static runs through the radio, the console lights (lighting, engine ck, stability control) flicker on and off and the transmission downshifts at will. the effect on the transmission is of particular concern because at highway speeds the vehicle abruptly slows down causing a potential hazard for the driver, its occupants, and others. once the vehicle ignition is turned off, all power inside, dome lights, radio, etc turn off and the vehicle will not restart until the battery cable is moved back and forth and a connection is reestablished. this is the second time i have taken the vehicle to the dealer and they have been unable to replicate the malfunction. *tr
Failure of all four power door locks on my 2008 tahoe. at almost exactly 3 years and 30,000 miles of ownership, the door locks of my, purchased new, 2008 tahoe ltz began to fail. all four locks failed within 12 months of each other. the vehicle had less than 40,000 miles and four years of service at the last and final (4th) failure. concern: (#1) there is only one manual keyed entry located on the vehicle which is the drivers door. in the event of an emergency and total electronic lock failure, the only passenger door access would be through the drivers door utilizing the key and manual lock/unlock feature. if the manual lock were to also fail, there would be no way to gain access to the vehicle through any of the four passenger doors. restricted access to the vehicle could cost the life of a child, adult passenger or pet trapped in the vehicle. the system could be designed safer with a redundant manual lock located on another door. additionally, the electronic locking mechanisms currently installed are inadequate and unsafe. the common failure of these systems eliminates the argument of electronic redundancy for the system since the installed product is faulty and unreliable. why should we be forced to accept these unsafe products/designs on our vehicles? concern: (#2) the cost of replacing a lock has been quoted between $250 to $450 per lock from different facilities. the pricing may influence a generally safe mined person to postpone a repair which impacts the redundancy feature of the electronic system. note: these locks typically begin to fail immediately after the warranty expires. and, gm corporation is unwilling to help with the cost and wasted time to deal with the issue. further investigation by the nhtsa is warranted and i feel a recall should be mandated. *tr
I have owned this tahoe for about 6 months now and i am going to replace the second door lock actutor now. i have done some research and this seems to be a chronic problem. this really is a safety issue for several reasons. when the first one failed it was the drivers front door, it failed in an unlocked position. thats great, we could still open the door. but so could a carjacker! we drove this way for a month before we found that the drivers door didn't lock. now we are having a similar problem, but now it is the passanger rear door. it is intermittent in it's occurance but it is consistently in the locked position, i am going to replace this now since we know about it, but if we have an accident and one has failed in the locked position and we dont know about it. we will be unable to get our children out in a timely manner. i really think this should be addressed. *tr
