Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe

My 2005 chevy tahoe has developed a problem with the speedometer. the gauge reads 20-30 mph faster than it should and then it eventually pegs out at 120 mph. it will return to 0 after the switch is cycled on/off but it's impossible to know your speed when it's malfunctioning. *tr

I am writing this to complain about a fire hazard with the seat warmers in 2005 chevy tahoe. i had to take my vehical to the repair shop because my seat warmer would get warmer than usual and after 2 to 3 minutes would shut off. come to find out the seat warmer pad had shorted out and burnt. i have the seat warmer pad that is charcoaled and burnt. i have contacted and spoke to gm representives 4 times informing them of the fire hazard all i get is this is an isolated incident, my vehicle has to many miles and i took it to a repair shop other than gm. this is a serious fire hazard and i think the public needs to be aware and gm needs to investigate. *cn

My speedometer on my 2005 chevy tahoe z71 4x4 stops working intermittently shows we are going way slower or 0 when we are driving. *tr

I currently own a 2005 chevrolet tahoe, recently the speedometer and oil gauge meter stopped working completely. chevy refuses to fix the condition unless i pay out of pocket 800.00. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet tahoe. while driving approximately 45 mph, the contact observed the speedometer displayed incorrect reading, regardless of the speed being traveled. in addition, failure occurred with the fuel gauge which resulted in an inaccurate reading at any given fuel level capacity. the vehicle has not been repaired for the malfunction at this time. the failure mileage was unknown.

2005 chevrolet tahoe. speedometer failure. the speedometer is stuck at 20 mph. personal research has led me to believe that chevrolet has acknowledged a defect in drive motors within the instrument panel from a parts manufacturer in 10 models produced from 2003 to 2007. this is a definite safety hazard that chevrolet needs to address via a recall of all effected models. *tr

2005 chevy tahoe speedometer will not read correctly, sticks and can be 20mph off at times or stuck over 100. *tr

2005 chevy tahoe speedometer will not read correctly, sticks and can be 20mph off at times or stuck over 100. *tr

Speedometer randomly goes to a much higher speed that car is actually traveling. used gps to verify car going 65 but speedometer registering 85. radio and climate control panel on vehicle also gets very hot to the touch when this occurs. speedometer will randomly reset and work fine for a while. this is an ongoing problem and started about 2 years ago. *tr

I own a 2005 chevrolet tahoe under 70k miles. my speedometer quit working. i found out that gm issued a specials program to fix the instrument panel on 03, 04 and some 05 tahoes if they are under 70k miles. my vin number was outside the lot of approved vin's. i contacted gm customer service and was led to believe they would provide some coverage for my repairs if the gm mechanic could verify that the problem with my speedometer was the exact problem being recalled. after one week of phone messages from gm that they were working towards a resolve, i was denied any coverage. my complaint is lack of ownership of the problem with my tahoe by gm. the mechanic at our local gm dealer verified to gm that my instrument panel was the exact defect that was being recalled. i was still denied and was told by the customer relations department that the speedometer not working was due to the previous owner? this was such a ludicrous statement by customer service. we are now forced with fixing the speedometer at our expense even though it was proven to be the fault of general motors. i am filing a complain with the better business bureau as well. *tr

2005 chevrolet tahoe. fuel pump eruption, due to the smell of coming from the vehicle. the consumer also noticed a leak from under the vehicle. the fuel pump and fuel line needed to be replaced. *mw also, the window switch was replaced and the key became stuck in the ignition. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet tahoe. he stated while the vehicle was parked he noticed a fire in his fuse box that destroyed the wiring harness. the failure occurred under the hood under the left front fender. the vehicle is at the dealer being repair with a cost. he contacted the manufacture and they would get back with him within twenty four hours. the manufacturer has not contacted him. the failure mileage was 56,000. bl updated 09/29/09

I own a 2005 gmc pick up and a 2005 chevy tahoe and the speed odometer just goes crazy in both vehicles. they go from 50 to 0 to 85 and back to 0 . the local dealer say they can't find anything wrong but i keep reading that this is getting very common in these vehicles. is there some way to do a recall before someone gets hurt or killed. *tr

I also have a gm speedometer that failed. we were driving along the highway, cruise control on, when speedometer became erratic and pegged to 120 mph. it has not returned to normal operation. i am out of town and have not i made repairs as of yet. *tr

My husband and i purchased a brand new 2005 chevrolet tahoe. in the month of march 2009 my speedometer started to read i was going 120 miles per hr but of course that was not the speed i was going. we took our tahoe back to the servco dealership because i had googled and read that there was a speedometer problem and gm was fixing the problem. well the dealership said that the vin # for the cluster was not one that gm was going to replace for free. why would they replace some and not all. i would like to make a complaint. i will never buy a american made car as long as i live. that's for sure. *tr

The driver side automatic seat quit working along with both the driver side and passengers side heated seats quit working as well. passenger side automatic seat worked fine. we took the tahoe into the dealer and they stated that the connector, under the drivers seat, was melted. they replaced the connector, however, the driver side automatic seat controls seem backwards. when you pull the leaver up, the seat goes down, and vice versa. i am very concerned that this malfunction may cause a fire. *tr

Speedometer shows 90 to 120 mph while diving 50 to 60 mph. called dealer today and was told instrument cluster needs replaced at a cost of $500 to $600 to fix. this is a known problem, 03 and 04s have been recalled. *tr

Speedometer quit working on 2005 gmac tahoe. stuck on 120 mph.. have no idea how fast i am driving due to speedometer not working. appears to be a common issue in gmac trucks, however gmac won't repair the part if the vehicle has more than 70,000 miles on it. *tr

The speedometer of my 2005 chevy tahoe no longer works. i have complained to the dealer, but they say they won't fix it because it is not currently being recalled. *tr

While traveling at 65mph on interstate, speedometer on my 2005 chevy tahoe, went arbitrarily up to 120mph and did not return to normal even after engine turned off and restarted- i can see that many others are dealing with the same problem - has there been a recall? *tr

My speedometer jumps around and at any given time could read 20mph above my actual speed. when the vehicle is shut off, it sometimes sticks around the 10 to 20 mph mark. nothing has been done to correct the defect. *tr

Occasionally smelled electrical burning inside vehicle. ac/heater blower cut out but came back on. december 2008 ac/heater blower stopped completely. went to dealership to confirm which fuse to check. was told it was probably something else and made an appointment for diagnosis. january 2009 was notified that the blower motor resistor and connector shorted out and melted (not covered under extended warranty). after researching the issue contacted manufacturer about possible recall, was told they would split cost of repair. dealer repair facility would not give us the faulty parts. said manufacturer would get the faulty parts due to them agreeing to pay for half of the repairs. still cost me $262 for diagnosis/repair. total repair price originally $323. many manufacturer vehicles have had same problem and i should not have had to pay anything. faulty part was upgraded by manufacturer and has been the subject of several service bulletins. *tr

Tl*- the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet tahoe, the current and failure mileages are both 78,000. while driving the speedometer displays the incorrect speed regardless of the speed she is traveling. this failure has occurred for the last two months. the contact intends to take vehicle to be serviced for the failure. the vin was not available at time of complaint.

I have a 2005 chevrolet tahoe. around 70k miles, my speedometer began acting up. it started off sticking at around 30 mph no matter how fast i really was going. lately it will either not work at all, will stick at 30 mph, or has even began to climb to 120 mph while i was doing 30 mph according to a gps which i am forced to use to measure my speed because of no speedometer. the dealer quoted me $500.00. this is very bothersome and i know many people who are experiencing the same issue. chevrolet acts as if we are at fault for this everytime i go in and complain. i have been pulled over 4 times because i was going over the speed limit by less than 10 mph. this could be avoided if i had a working speedometer. *tr

I have a 2005 chevy tahoe. i have had nothing but problems with the instrument cluster. the fuel gauge works correctly only half of the time. it sometimes tells me i have a full tank and then when you restart the truck it shows empty and the low fuel light comes on. now today the speedometer was showing 120 at approximately 65 mph. we turned off the vehicle and it shows 20 mph. this is unsafe and needs to be recalled. please help me and every other tahoe owner with this same problem. thank you *tr

Speedometer quit working at 64,030 miles.this is a 2005 chevrolet tahoe z7 4x4. vehicle is out of warranty.purchased after market warranty.appears to be a major problem with this type vehicle and not covered under extended warranty. dealer unable/unwilling to locate replacement part. *tr

The speedometer on my 2005 tahoe is reading incorrectly. the other day i was traveling down the interstate when i looked down at my speed and the gauge was reading 120mph. i pulled off at the next exit when i came to s a stop; the speedometer was indicating 60mph. it has been 3 days since this happened and it still gives the same false readings. *tr

My 2005 chevrolet tahoe's speedometer is not working not only does my speedometer not work right it tells me i'm going 80 mph while parked. believe it or not it quit working 200 miles after the warranty went out. the next week we got a letter from gmac saying that there is a problem with the dash, the speedometer or the gas gage may stop working. if you have 70,000 or less they will fix it at no cost to you and if you have already had it repaired, they will reimburse you. *tr

2005 chevy tahoe. speedometer started reading higher than it should. i go 60 and speedometer reads 90. when i stop speedometer stays at 30. gm has recalled 03-04 but not 05 models. i have spoken with several dealers and several chat rooms and several of the 05's are having the same problem. called gm they said my vin was not in the recall. i told them that i had the same problem as everyone else. they said i had to get a diagnostic test on the vehicle then they would review and decide if they would pay for the repair. this is ridiculous. it is obvious a problem with the 05 models. gm should repair these. *tr

My 2005 z71 tahoe's stepper motors cluster is bad (mph and fuel gauges). i advised chevy of this and they said it cannot be replaced. i feel this should be a recall due to this being a safety issue with mph/gas gauge having improper readings. *tr

Instrument cluster panel on my 2005 chevy tahoe that was manufactured in july, 2004 is defective. gm will not warrant this model because it has the year 2005 on; however, it was manufactured in 2004. our 2004 had the same problem and was warranted. i cannot afford to pay this repair and have no idea what speed i am driving. i could speed excessively without knowing and cause an accident. i could drive below the speed limit and get rear-ended. it's apparent this is an-ongoing issue and gm should warrant the 2005 as well. *tr

Speedometer does not read right speeds. *tr

Speedometer needle off when driving. it reads 70 mph when only going 30 mph. it would reset 5-10 mph at a time if car was turned off and then restarted. the needle is now past 120 and not moving at all. this is a safety issue and should be resolved by gm asap. *tr

The instrument cluster on my 2005 chevrolet tahoe has malfunctioned. vehicle only has 27,559 miles on it. looks like a known problem by gm as they settled a lawsuit with delphi and this should be recalled and fixed at no cost. *tr

The speedometer on our 2005 chevrolet tahoe lt does not function properly. sometimes we are going slower than it shows and other times we are going faster. for example, we may be driving 65 mph but it will show 120 mph. or we may be driving 45 mph but it shows 70 mph. and sometimes it works. you just never know for sure. this is dangerous and obviously an ongoing problem with the chevrolet tahoe as we know of a recall with the 04 chevrolet tahoe having this same problem. also, the air conditioner on the driver's side will start blowing hot air all of the sudden and continue to do so until the car is turned off and restarted. however, i am not nearly as concerned with this as with the speedometer. i feel strongly that there needs to be a recall in this situation asap and chevrolet needs to address this problem. i should not have to pay to have this fixed. *tr

Speedometer has an erratic display. sticks at 40/45 says i am going 120 when parked? etc... *tr

Fuel gauge is constantly inaccurate. the car has a 26 gallon tank, after filling up and driving sometimes 50 miles the gas light will come on telling me i am out of gas. i have sit on level surfaces watching the gauge go from full down to completely empty several times. this problem could potentially leave a person stranded as they do not know how much gas is in the vehicle. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet tahoe. the contact stated that the speedometer completely failed. the dealer stated that there were no recalls on his year and model vehicle. the current mileage was 68,510 and failure mileage was 68,005. updated 5/5//08 *cn

Speedometer works sometimes and not others. does not register correct speed. this is a very dangerous, and gm should address these faulty parts. *tr

I have a 2005 tahoe with 55,600 miles. the problem is with the speedometer. it gets stuck usually around the 60 mph mark then it thinks that 60 mph is actually 0 mph. so when you start driving it goes past the 120mph mark and stays. i called gm and they told me that the problem is with the 2003 2004 and would not be covered under the recall because it is a 2005. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet tahoe. the speedometer became erratic and stopped working completely. the dealer advised the contact to call chevrolet customer assistance. there are safety recalls on the 2003 and 2004 chevrolet tahoe's; however, there were none for the 2005 models. the current mileage was 61,100 and failure mileage was 59,000. updated 4/16/08 *cn

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet tahoe. the contact stated that the fuel gauge on the instrument panel indicated half a tank. while driving 75 mph, the vehicle ran out of gasoline. he had to maneuver across four lanes of traffic and avoid several near crashes. the following day, after a full tank of gas was placed in the vehicle, the fuel gauge indicated that the fuel tank was empty. the dealer stated that there were no recalls on his year, make, and model vehicle. the contact also stated that the other instrument panel cluster illuminated intermittently. the failure mileage was 42,000 and current mileage was 47,000. updated 09/10/08 *bf the consumer stated the oil gauge did not work and the light on the instrument panel intermittently displayed passenger air bag off. updated 09/17/08. *jb updated 03/04/09. *lj the consumer stated he was experiencing major electrical problems. there appeared to be a short in the headlights and taillights. updated 03/06/09. *jb

Speedometer works intermittently. sometimes stays at 0, sometimes pegged, sometimes in between...all independent of speed. found this was a widespread issue and dealer states gm is covering repairs for 03-04, but not yet 05 and i believe to only 70k miles. my 05 is at 67k miles and i have requested goodwill from gm. they should be covering this repair. this is obviously and extremely common occurrence due to faulty manufacturing. there is also a smell of plastic or another electronic component burning/melting. no fire yet. *tr

I was driving and i looked at the speedometer and it was buried past 120mph even though i was only going around 30. it also was stuck on 80mph after i turned the vehicle off. it does not work at all. the speedometer fails everytime we drive the vehicle. *tr

About 3 months ago, my speedometer stopped working properly. at just over 50k miles, the speedometer needle stopped returning to zero speed. sometimes it's pinned at over 120 mph no matter the speed (even at a stop). it's not exactly comfortable driving i70 during winter conditions not knowing your speed. would i be negligent for not fixing...or chevrolet? what if an accident occurred while i had real estate buyers in my car. just 3 years ago, i invested almost 40k in this automobile and now they want another $600 to repair. what happened to safety first or the consumer always being right. *tr

I was driving to work january 8th of 2008 and i looked down to set my cruise control and my speedometer was registering over 120 mph. i had to guess how fast i was going and went to the dealership to get it repaired. the service rep said it would be covered and when i went to get it the next day said i owed them a $100 deductible because of the extended warranty. my vehicle has 53,000 miles on it and i wouldn't think a speedometer would go out that soon if at all and should be covered by the manufacturer for using faulty parts. i asked the rep if my speedometer went out again would i have to pay again and he said that it had a 12 month or 12 thousand mile warranty on it. so if this happens again i will have to foot the bill. this is a safety issue and everyone in every state should have their vehicles recalled and fixed with dysfunctional parts. i personally nor will my family buy a gm product again because of this and their service. *tr

As i was driving to work in heavy traffic the speedometer was showing 40 mph when i was traveling 60+. then it went to zero. i have to pay for to repair and i think gm knows of this defect since they have recalled 2003-2004 vehicles. i'm not sure i will ever purchase another gm product. *tr

At approx. 58,000 miles my recently purchased (1 week ago from a chevrolet dealer) my 2005 chevrolet tahoe's speedometer started moving erratically and sticking. you can be driving at 45 mph and the speedometer will show anywhere from 65-120+ mph. it can be set back down to zero if you continually start the engine over and over which will allow it to drop about 10 mph each time. *tr

My speedometer has a mind of it's own. it will say i'm doing 20mph when i know i'm going much faster than that. or it will register 0mph. i took my tahoe into the shop today and they said that nothing came up as being wrong on their computer so nothing was fixed. i contacted chevy and they said that was true, they can't fix it unless they know what the problem is, i know what it is, the speedometer isn't working! this has happened to me 3 times now, i will continue to take it to the dealership and to call chevy everytime this occurs, i want results, not a speeding ticket! *tr

My speedometer has stopped working in my 2005 chevy tahoe. *tr
