We have classified the 4 complaints from 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe about EQUIPMENT into the following categories.
Transmission failure on 2002 tahoe.first failure around 17,000 miles. fixed under warranty. second failure little over a year later. fixed under warranty. third failure little over a year later. dealer fixed, but said they paid for it. fourth failure little over 2 years later. i have read about defective sun gear in transmission and that they were never taken out of service. gm would not replace the transmission and would only rebuild i have had 4 failure's in about 75,000 miles. i don't think this is normal service. *tr
2002 chevy tahoe purchased used 11/2006 with 50,000 miles. gas gauge never went to full. 4/2010 fuel pump was replaced $1000.00, now it's 7/2010 and gas gauge fluctuates while driving with full tank of gas to empty, car slows down and then suddenly picks back up with gas gauge showing full again. very unsafe on freeways!! was told by pepboys when they replaced fuel pump that something wasn't working with the computer, oh really, but of course we were told that 9 times out of 10 that it was more than likely the fuel pump and they didn't work on the computer. cost of repair was probably the deciding factor. now i feel unsafe while driving because i don't know if the vehicle is going to suddenly slow down while driving on the freeway or anywhere else for that matter. what's up chevy?, what's wrong with the computer?? *tr
I am writing to report the second failure of a valve stem from ntb. the tire is a michelin tire installed on a 2002 chevy tahoe. all tires are properly inflated and are maintained at the proper level. the first occurrence was approx. 2 years ago and the tire lost pressure, delaminated and blew out. the current tire lost pressure but is intact. upon returning home my wife attempted to reinflate the tire to determine where the air is leaking from. it was determined that the air was leaking from the valve stem. both tires and valve stems were purchased from ntb. *tr
On march 20. 2007 i recieved a letter from onstar telling me that a safety feature that i purchased new with my 2002 chevrolet tahoe will not be operable after december 31, 2007. i will no longer have the onstar system to call 911 automatically in case air bag deployment. i understand that there about 2 million owners of gm cars that will have the same problem. *ak
In february 2004, i purchased a used 2002 chevrolet. in june 2004 the vehicle's electronic brake control module failed and was replaced by my local chevrolet dealer. at the time of the repair the vehicle had 52, 000 miles. on february 15, 2007 the same part failed again. the vehicle now has 102,000 miles. the electronic brake control module is a non-wear item. i contacted chevrolet to inquire about a recall on this item. no recall exist however there have been technical service bulletins issue concerning this item. i was told by chevrolet and the repair facility that because my vehicle now has more than 100,000 miles i would have to replace the item at my expense. *jb
2002 chevrolet tahoe. noticed a futter/rattling compressor like sound when accelerating. appeared to be from air conditioning (a/c) condenser & compressor air vents in the front and back of the tahoe was not cooling off . with a/c off it will not make this noise. caller, talked to several people with the same problem. the problem was intermittent. replaced tensioner pully, compressor, and now i am told it wa s the ac condenser. i have already spent $1100, and warranty only paid for 1 item. i now need $500 for ac condensor to hope to have vehicle back to fair condition. i would like chevrolet to recall/replace this in the vehicle, as well as others due to chevrolet knowing this was a problem. i want payment of $800 paid to me for out of pocket expenses i had to pay when the vehicle only had 57,000 miles on it. i own a 1999 pathfinder and never had any of these problems. i would like someone to contact me as soon a spossible. *ak
Chevrolet tahoe 2002, transmission failure. *bf the consumer purchased a vehicle that once had a transmission problem, the consumer was told the transmission problem had been fully corrected. the consumer then found out that the transmission was never fixed and the vehicle has been in the shop for a total of 3 times. not only was the vehicle slipping, slow to shift and exhibiting a noise when shifting from park to drive, there were other problems such as not being able to turn the key in the ignition, the seat warmed light illuminated when the button was pushed, the speakers were cracking loudly, the a/c light came on by itself, the moon roof rattled and was leaking, the cargo power switch did lock the doors within 5 seconds of the cargo door being closed, the handle on the third row seat fell off, the cigarette lighter was missing, and the rubber stripping on the cargo door was loose. *jb
Recently i noted a grinding noise in the rear end of my tahoe. a repair shop showed me the "back plates" on the rear wheels. they were completely corroded to the point that pieces were falling off the plates. i was informed that this would not affect my braking but could lead to the inability to use my emergency brake. the manager said he had never seen anything this bad. a technician nearby spoke up and siad he saw a set on a chevy truck recently. i am submitting this material for only one purpose. i suspect there may be use of substandard, faulty material that is not resistant to corrosion being used in at least the chevrolet line of trucks. this could result in failirue of the emergency brake and potential loss of life. i intend to get mine repaired but how many could be out there undiagnosed? *ak
We purchased a 2002 chev tahoe new in march 2002. this vehicle just rolled over the 30,000 mile mark. within the 30 months that we have owned this vehicle, the fuel pump had to be replaced 3 times, the first one being replaced at 12,000 miles. in addition, the fuel gauge sensor and the air conditioner compressor have had to be replaced. approximately 6 weeks ago, while on vacation, the tahoe died in the middle of the road. we were 3 hours from home, so we had to be towed to the nearest dealership and rent an automobile to continue on our trip. the next day we had to go back to this dealership to pick up the tahoe. we were told that the fuel pump connector wires had worked loose. last weekend, while driving at 55 mph, it died again in the middle of the road. we had it towed to our local dealership and have had to replace yet another fuel pump. every time the fuel pump went out, the tahoe was being driven in traffic. to have a vehicle die suddenly at 55 mph in traffic is a very dangerous situation. we contacted gm back in may after putting our vehicle in the shop for a new air conditioner compressor. after many lengthy discussions with a gm customer rep, we were given an extended warranty. while we appreciate the extended warranty, the problem has not been resolved. apparently there is something wrong with our vehicle and/or the fuel pumps themselves that are causing this repeated failure. it has become a safety issue. now we feel that we have no choice but to get rid of our vehicle. however, by trading it in, all we're doing is passing the problem on to the next unlucky soul. we can't, in good conscience, sell the car to someone without telling them all the problems we've experienced. only a fool would buy it from us. so, what we're left with is an unsellable $635 per month potential death trap. *ak
Dt: the contact has 2002 chevrolet tahoe. noticed a futter/rattling compressor like sound when accelerating. appears to be from air conditioning (a/c) compressor air vents in the back of the tahoe are not cooling off as well as the front. with a/c off it will not make this noise. caller talked to several people with the same problem. the problem was intermittent. had several things done to the vehicle to keep this problem from happening again, and nothing seemed to help.*ak

Transmission went out oct-02 @ 21,000 miles, would only replace 1 part, transmission went out again may 13,2003 @ 31,000 miles, this time i was told all parts in transmission were destroyed and dealer wanted to fix broken parts and put back in. it got very frustrating at this point....called toll free number at chevrolet and got no where, they think i'm stupid, i pay more than $40,000 for a brand new vehicle and have this happen twice in 5 months....i am very concerned about the safety issue here for my family and myself. i should have known i was doomed when i purchased my vehicle, it took almost 6 weeks to get and they kept giving me the run around about where it was, they kept telling it had left the factory and was on its way, but always found an excuse, then they said it got pulled off the line for inspection...what's wrong here? they told me at least 5 different times it had left the factory and then all of a sudden it's on the line...it never left the factory....i should have known then....*jb
