Forward driver's side brake line broke resulting in immediate loss of brake fluid and all vehicle braking. fortunately no one was in front of vehicle. pulled off of road. car towed. *tr
Rusted brake lines, vehicle would not stop. *tr
I made a panic stop and then lost brakes ..lines from master cylinder to brake module and from module to front and rear brakes burst at rusted area ........seems to be leaking where line mounting clips are located ... *tr
While backing out of driveway the brake pedal went all the way to the floor. upon investigation a ruptured brake line was found. all the lines were very rusty. two sections were replaced to get the vehicle on the road again and most of the rest will need replaced before the vehicle can be trust worthy. the vehicle was inspected by the dealer here in pa this past summer and no mention was made of this condition. *tr
About 2 weeks prior to my incident my father had the same issue. we both own 2500 hd 2003 chevy trucks bought on same day. my incident was i was leaving my sisters house and started my truck backed up then put truck in drive started forward there is a stop sign close to the driveway so i started braking but peddle went to floor so i did it again same thing no brakes. so i used e brake to stop myself got out and sure enough busted brake line under cab drivers side door same place my fathers busted a couple weeks be for mine. he local garage where my dad had his fixed said he have changed several brake lines with same problem. also net and found this is common. way is there not a recall on this yet could be a very serious issue and life threatening. *tr
I was driving into my driveway when i tried to stop the brake pedal went entirely to the floor. the truck seemed as though it was gonna hit my garage. thankfully i have good reflexes and was able to hit the parking brake (which isn't an easy task in a p/u truck. when i got out, i noticed a large leak under my driver door. with further investigation i found the brake lines were severely corroded. one of them had sprung a leak and was spraying brake fluid everywhere. the over all state of the brake line system is in horrible condition. i had this happen to me before in my '93 chevy truck... but its expected at twice the age of my '03 truck. i saw the nhtsa had an investigation that was about exactly what happened to me and wanted to report it. *tr
Sudden brake failure as approaching traffic light. pedal went all the way to the floor. i was able to downshift and pull into empty lane. had truck towed to mechanic. brake line was so badly corroded it broke and all brake fluid had been lost. all brake lines have to be replaced. brake rotors are so rusted they have to be replaced. passenger side rear brake so badly rusted entire brake assembly and rotor has to be replaced. estimate $1500.00. i hate to think what might have happened if i was traveling at highway speed and had to brake. *tr
I was driving down the road and depressed the brakes to stop and pull into my drive way the pedal went to the floor and the brakes did not stop the vehicle. as a result the vehicle made contact with my garage door and it was damaged in the incident. this incident is completely unacceptable to me. there were no warning lights prior to failure. i have taken the vehicle to a shop and the lines are rusted through. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500hd. the contact stated the entire brake line around the vehicle was rusted and corroded. as the brake was being depressed, the brake pedal went all the way to the floorboard causing brake fluids to leak out. the dealer was notified who stated there was no recall and he would have to pay for the repairs. the manufacturer was not notified. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 110,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. the contact stated while driving approximately 40 mph, the brake pedal traveled abruptly to the floor when depressed. the vehicle failed to slow down until the gear was shifted into park and the emergency brake was engaged. the vehicle was then driven to the residence with caution. the contact was a certified mechanic, who replaced the four brake lines, which ruptured due to rust corrosion. the failure recurred shortly after the repairs. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was unavailable. the approximate failure mileage was 134,000.
To start off, my brake line are severely corroded as the was a new england truck for the first 8 years of its life. after sitting overnight, i went to drive my truck yesterday. upon starting it, i received the message "service brake system" on the driver information screen. i also noticed the brake light was on and that the pedal went to the floor. i went under the hood and noticed the brake master cylinder was empty and several of the brake lines were wet with brake fluid. i had just checked my brake fluid (with all of my other fluids this week as i was on a camping trip when this happened. i looked this up on the internet when i got home and found nhtsa action number dp10003 that discussed this exact same issue. please advise on the status of this investigation. thank you. *tr
My rear steel brake line burst in a parking lot after applying the brake to shift into gear. the main line that runs from the abs module to the rear differential was so rusted it burst unexpectedly. *tr
During repair, all brake lines appear to be corroded to the point of breaking. approximate cost of repair is $1300.00. dealer stated he is repairing many early 2000 chevrolet pickups for this problem. *tr
Brake line rupture from the abs module to rear of the truck. the brake line is completely rusted through and i can see brake fluid dripping off the frame underneath the driver side door. i believe it rupture in my driveway returning from a trip with my camper attached to the bed. *tr
While backing out of a driveway my brake pedal went all the way to the floor. no warning light came on. i backed into a tree because i could not stop. bent my bumper into the fender. upon investigation i found the metal brake tube under the driver side rear had failed and all the brake fluid drained out. it looks as if the hose rusted through. upon further investigation i found many of the metal brake lines rusted and in need of replacement. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500. while driving approximately 60 mph the brake pedal dropped to the floor board; however, the contact was able to stop the vehicle. after inspecting the vehicle the contact noticed all of the brake lines were corroded and two of the brake lines were fractured. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 89,000.
Driving home from work on a local 2-lane highway, hit the brakes to slow down for a car that moved into my lane, pedal went all the way to the floor. i almost rear-ended the car in front of me. what is it going to take to get a recall? does a pedestrian in a crosswalk need to get killed before someone does the responsible thing? brake lines run around $1500 to replace. it looks like the line in the driver side front burst. in reviewing this online, i see many many many many chevy owners are having he same problem. never gm again. what happened to pride and quality in american manufacturing? it's a shame, my toyota and infiniti do not have these problems. *tr
In driveway put foot on brake and pedal went to the floor. found rear brake line has leak in section behind fuel tank. inspected other four lines going into abs unit and found those lines rusted badly also. noted undercarriage has lots of rust everywhere. fuel lines also very rusted. *tr
As i was driving and went to apply the brake, my foot went right to the floor and there was no brake application, i had to use the emergency/parking brake and put the gear selector in the lowest gear to slow and stop the truck. although the vehicle went through a traffic light, luckily there was nobody in front of me, the road was straight and level, weather conditions were optimal and there was no traffic at the intersection. i had my wife and 16 month old daughter in the vehicle. it was a very scary and dangerous situation, which most drivers may not have had the quick thought to react the way i did and might have been seriously hurt. upon inspection on the side of the road, it appeared that there was brake fluid was leaking heavily from the middle of the vehicle. upon further inspection, this turned out to be a rotted brakeline in a spot not visible to inspection. the brake line was the one that runs from the abs ditribution/control unit to the rear of the truck; an almost 12 foot line. it rotted out where the line runs along the left frame rail, above the fuel tank. upon doing research on the internet, i found that this is a common issue with my type of vehicle and under investigation by the nhtsa. i am not sure why gm did not use stainless steel for the brake lines on these trucks or has not issues a warning to owners or offered to rep[lace the lines at their expense. this is a truly unsafe situation! stainless steel could have been installed at the time of manufacture for a minimal expense and passed on to the consumer. after all they used stainless steel for the entire exhaust system....why not the brake lines? *tr
Everything related to my truck's brakes seemed to be working fine. i had just driven the truck ~100 highway miles without incident. after reaching my destination, i backed my truck up and hitched my boat trailer to it. the truck brakes worked fine as i maneuvered the truck to align it with the trailer. there was no indication of any imminent failure - nothing on the dash warning lights and the brake pedal had a normal feel to it. as i began to pull away with my boat in tow and prepared to turn, i depressed the brake pedal and it went completely to the floor. the brakes completely failed - no warning light and absolutely 100% loss of braking power. i quickly placed the truck in neutral and the drag of the trailer across the lawn slowed the truck enough that i was able to put the transmission into park. after opening the hood, i noticed the brake fluid was low. i added 12 ounces of the appropriate brake fluid, restarted the truck, and the brake pedal still went to the floor. my wife, who was standing alongside the truck (she was behind it as i backed up - thank god the brakes didn't fail at that point), noticed a stream of brake fluid coming from under the truck and near the firewall. i called aaa and had my truck towed to a local aaa approved service center. the technician stated that my brakes lines were leaking, severely corroded throughout, and needed to be replaced. the truck is still in the shop. i'm saving the bill and all of the related parts. fortunately i was only inconvenienced - not hurt. *tr
Went to back out of driveway and brakes went to the floor. stopped the truck and had brake fluid leaking from a failed rusty line. most lines had major corrosion just behind the engine and above the gas tank. getting estimate to fix now...won't be cheap as i understand it requires custom bending of brakelines. *tr
On 6/28/2012, encountered no braking condition while driving at 25-40 mph. had vehicle towed to chevy dealer who discovered one of the brake lines was heavily rusted and had burst. new line installed. on 8/10/2012 same condition occurred to another brakeline. upon inspection, found all lines heavily corroded and need replacement except for the one previously replaced. *tr
Metal brake line burst due to corrosion. when stopping at a stop sign, the brake pedal went to the floor. once home, i found that a brake line that runs along the drivers side frame had burst. *tr
Had to make hard stop and brakes failed, later it was revealed brake lines had rotted out.. this has happened on several occasions?
While driving to go get lunch i went to slow down because of traffic and my pedal went to the floor. thank god i didn't hit anyone. i had the truck towed home and i noticed brake fluid leaking under the truck. when i climbed under i noticed the lines were corroded and one of the had ruptured. after all of this i started to look on the internet and saw that this is a problem with alot of gm trucks. i can't believe that there is no recall yet!!! are they waiting for someone to get killed first. *tr
Steel brake line to rear of truck rusted through, which caused brake fluid to leak out & system could not generate sufficient pressure to stop the vehicle quickly. fortunately traffic was relatively light and i had a significant gap in front of me. the brakes functioned normally several times prior in the same trip, and no warning light came on, even during the failure. at the next key off & on, the warning light did actually come on. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. the contact was driving 10 mph and applied the brakes but the vehicle did not respond. the contact had to engage the pedal until it was depressed into the floorboard before the vehicle would respond. the contact inspected the vehicle and found that the brake lines were rusted. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileages were 60,000.
Tl - the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500 hd. the contact stated that while reversing, the brake pedal abnormally traveled to the floorboard when depressed. on a second occasion, while driving approximately 20 mph, the brake pedal abnormally traveled to the floorboard when depressed and as a result, the vehicle crashed into a tree. a police report was not filed. there were no injuries reported. the contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the brake lines were rusted and corroded. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the approximate failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 90,000. pm
Body and under body rust and rot to include frame, brake lines and shock mounts. brake lines failed while i was driving, thankfully at slow speeds and was able to activate the emergency brake.
