I was traveling south on i65 in tennessee, with the cruise control set at 76mph. i was near mile marker 27 on a steep incline when a car moved in front of me causing me to tap the brake to come off cruise control and slow down. when the car merged right, clearing my path, i touched the resume button to reach-engage the cruise control. i immediately felt the overdrive kick in, which seemed normal because i was going up hill, but it just went crazy. the engine raced to nearly 5000rpm, and i was going over 100mph with no ability to stop it. i turned off the cruise control using the steering wheel button, and it had no affect. i stepped on the brake, it had no affect. so i moved to the shoulder to avoid traffic, and i stepped on the brake harder. i saw the speedometer react, so i pressed the brake as hard as possible and managed to get it stopped and in park. the engine was still screaming at nearly 5000rpm, so i turned the key off. after 30 minutes, i started it, it ran fine, and i was able to complete my drive to pensacola without further incident. a truly terrifying experience. thank you.
