Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving 25 mph, the contact heard a loud explosion inside the vehicle without warning. the cabin of the vehicle was filled with smoke. the vehicle was taken to rossi chevrolet buick gmc (360 nj-31, washington, nj 07882, (908) 364-2789) where it was diagnosed that the driver's seat belt tensioner had exploded. there were no injuries. the contact was also informed that the air bags, driver and passenger side seat belt pre-tensioners, and the air bag control module deactivation module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 28,000.
Seat belt on driver and passenger sides will not lock any longer. they have worn out and broke. this seems very similar to the 2007 recall that happened. this is a 2008 truck.
There was an explosion and seat belts tightened up,the deployer for air bags went off, luckily the air bags didn't go off or i would have been in an accident. i complained to gm because there was a call back in 2010 of faulty sensors getting corroded because they are located in a damp area. gm stated that they were no longer responsible because it was over five years old and over 100,000 miles. but my concern is how dangerous this is when you are just driving down the street and they go off causing a accident. i want gm to pay for repairs so that i can have seat belts again but they claim no responsibility and want me to pay $1200.00 to $1500.00 to have seat belts and air bags again. *tr
The dash on my 2008 silverado is cracked. the crack is located at the airbag on the passenger side. the crack is located at the top left side of the airbag opening. i am afraid that if the airbag is deployed the cracked dash will become shrapnel and kill, or seriously injure people in the cab of the truck.

I was driving at a speed of approximately 45 mph when a driver, who was cited for failing to yield to the right of way, entered the roadway from my left. the initial impact was my truck's front to the passenger side of the vehicle that entered the roadway. after both vehicles separated, my vehicle continued and struck a median guardrail head-on (another frontal impact) before coming to rest. my seatbelt did not lock and no airbags deployed. the highway patrol investigated the active collision scene. four days later, an independent collision reconstruction expert that i hired inspected my vehicle at my local gm dealership. the inspection revealed that: i was in fact going 45mph, my seatbelt was buckled, my seatbelt pretensioner did not activate, and no airbags deployed. gm has also been contacted by me, and they are currently investigating the issue. *tr
