Vehicle stabilitrack and traction control lights came on. engine warning light came on. while attempting to turn the vehicle onto a highway acceleration ramp, the car steering wheel locked and the engine died. could not unlock the power steering. i was towing a horse trailer well within the gross weight for the vehicle. i had a horse in the trailer at the time. i also had children in the car. after a few minutes, i was able to start the vehicle and pull into a safer area. i was not able to tow the trailer home but i was able to get the vehicle home. the car hesitated and chugged along surging into each gear. while at a stop the vehicle hesitated and the engine sputtered. i had to put the truck in neutral and put my foot on the accelerator so the car engine would not die. the transmission would surge each time i stepped on the gas. limited turning radius on the vehicle and i was not able to make a sharp turn without a grinding noise. *tr

2007 chevy silverado exhaust manifold bolts snapping. the exhaust manifold bolts on gm 4.8, 5.3, 6.0 v8's are junk and defective. they corrode and snap easily and prematurely. my truck is a 2007 with 84000 miles with an exhaust leak caused by defective bolts. bolts are not covered under gm powertrain warranty. *tr

The a/c fan quit. it smelled like burning plastic. luckily i was able to exit the freeway safely and i have enough electrical knowledge i was able to determine a way to continue safely. it was a fire hazard waiting to happen inside the cab. the resistor was extremely hot and the wiring harness was melted. there were no blown fuses. i pulled fuses to reduce the chance of fire. i have previously attempted to deal with the chevrolet dealer nearest dfw, tx airport and gm over my bad engine block (also reported on this forum) and ........ so i am out the money for this fire hazard too. this is the last gm product i will ever own. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph he began to smell the odor of burning plastic and the fan stopped functioning. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostics. the contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the fan resister module needed to be replaced. the wiring harness, which was connected to the module, was also melted. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

I have a 2007 chevy silverado 4.3 l v6 engine. the emissions system went crazy, first saying coolant temperature too low for engine, replaced thermostat that went bad,got stuck open. light goes out. next day light back on says evap solenoid vent has gross leak. there r no replacement parts for this failure come 2 find out after talking to dealer. u have to buy whole new solenoid vent system and add 5/8 heater hose to rerun the vent so dirt, dust and debris is harder to enter the vent. they say its a flaw in design so gm redesigned it and this is how to fix it. if they know its a bad design then they should pay for it to be replaced with their new design. *tr

Exhaust manifold bolts broken off on 3 of my chevrolet silverados. *tr

Around the time my truck hit the 42000 mile mark the oil low indicator warning illuminated on my instrument panel. i took it in to the dealer since it was well under warranty. the dealer began an oil consumption test and the truck continued to go through oil regularly. sometimes just half a quart but sometimes as much as 1 1/2 quarts. the dealership did work on the engine 6 months into this issue but that did not stop the oil consumption. after dealing with them for over 12 months, and the low oil light coming on 2 more times, i was told there was nothing wrong with the truck and according to gm specs, consuming 1 quart of engine oil every 2000 miles, was acceptable. i called and complained to the gm corporate offices but was told that they could not contradict the dealership since they were the ones monitoring the oil consumption issue. i told them that by their "specs" if i took my family on a road trip from ca to ny and back, i would have to replace at least 3 quarts, or half the total in the crank case, during the trip. i know of no other automobile manufacturer that would find this acceptable. gm says it is. in my opinion, this is a safety issue that gm is well aware of and failing to address, even when an owner has followed the recommended maintenance schedule and reported the issue in a timely fashion. i will not own another gm product. their customer-no-service is terrible and contrary to the television ads, they do not stand behind their products. *tr

Every 2500 mile after a oil change i get a low oil engine light and have to add a quart in a half of oil to top it off again. after doing gm's oil consumption test three times gm tells me that the dealer that i was bring my truck to for the oil consumption test stated that i was drive my truck to hard are i was pulling something. *tr

There is a major problem with my '07 chevy silverado 1500 z71 4dr pick-up. the truck has been eating it's own oil. it also had transmission leak due to defective part causing the vehicle to loose oil for no reason and there is no gm parts to fix the problem. this has happened twice and after investing alot of money and taking care of vehicle maintenance properly, i am truly upset and this is a serious problem. *tr

2007 chevorlet silverado 1500 2wd v8 4.8l, engine fire. fire department & insurance company both do not believe there was fraud or arson. total loss. the vehicle was parked outside of my residence on the residential driveway at about 3:50a.m. we heard a blow which was the tire in the front driver's side. we called police plus fire department. the engine front part of truck plus the 2 tire's in front and engine caught on fire. the hood still on, and the windows did not break. the inside of the vehicle good just wet after the fact. fire report says area of fire origin was the engine area, running gear, wheel area. item first ignited was the pipe, duct, conduit & hose covering. it was about 2:30a.m. same day we got home. it had not been 2 hours that we drove the vehicle. it was parked and the ignition off when this fire started. my driver and passenger door must have unlocked and the back driver and passenger doors stayed locked because when the fire department put out fire the doors were that way. i have a 6 year old daughter that rides in the back seat. the fire department said the fire started drivers side/engine. this is a very terrifying time. i'm scared to even purchase a truck anymore. we could have been in the vehicle, my husband and i plus our daughter. i used to drive my truck with the thought that i was safe in it for the size of it and that it was a chevy, but now i can't even have that thought cross my mind. your not safe anywhere, not even in your vehicle because not only if there is a car wreck, a drunl driver hits you, someone failed to stop at a stop sign and hit you, now if your ignition is in the off position your truck can catch on fire, at your residence, parked in a garage, parked beside other vehicles, and who knows the fire could have started as i and my family were in it too. your not safe. insurance co pays the value and book closed. i have no vehicle to show for those 3 years. no fraud no arson and no vehicle. and nothing done. it's not right. *tr

2007 chevy silverado z71 2lt package vehicle was driven from approximately 4:15 a.m. until around 11 a.m. november 27, 2009 when it was parked at 2500 yellowstone street, wichita, ks 67215. at approximately 4:13 a.m november 28, 2009 the wichita fire department responds to a fire that has consumed the engine and cab compartment. gregg myrtle, fire captain, firehouse 17, wichita fire department, 316-337-9417, indicated the fire started in the engine compartment and spread to the cab. the fire destroyed the entire engine compartment along with the cab and all items contained within. mr. myrtle stated that an official report (#50424) will be filed by firehouse 17. i contacted farmers insurance and claim number 1015073768 was started. farmers insurance agent scott sell (913-631-6810) is the local agent. vehicle is a total loss. vehicle had approximately 36,500 miles and was purchased new with all maintenance and recall notifications performed by a chevrolet dealer. *tr

2007 chevrolet silverado 1500 5.3l engine. at 40,000 miles, the camshaft and a couple of lifters were replaced due to wear and eventual tapping. again at 90,000 miles, the camshaft and a couple of lifters (lobe 4) were replaced due to lifter wear and breakage causing engine tapping. on the second occurrence, after the lifters had started tapping (and 900 miles from home) a piece of a lifter broke off and caught in the oil pump causing it to stop. i quickly turned off the engine to avoid further damage. upon this second occurrence of lifter failure causing the camshaft to wear, i felt sure that chevrolet and gm would replace the engine with a short block but i was extremely disappointed. gm and the chevrolet dealer admitted that a camshaft should last as long as the vehicle but i am on my 3rd camshaft in this engine before the warranty ended. one tried to convince me the camshaft was probably of a bad lot made but these 2 occurrences were too far apart for me to believe that a recall would not have occurred during that time. the other (gm) tried to convince me that the camshaft wore out the lifter but i don't buy that excuse either. a new set of tires lasted longer than the engine on both occurrences. i believe the problem is still there. i still have the defective engine block in my vehicle which causes me to doubt the engine dependability and will cause a reduction of the value of my vehicle when it is time to sell or trade. *tr

Engine suddenly loses power at highway and passing speeds with no warning at all. *jb

2007 chevrolet silverado 5.3l v-8 engine with active fuel management and throttle by wire. vehicle will not idle down properly or slow down properly or timely. i believe 2 possible causes, active fuel management system trying to maintain "sail speed" in a fuel saving mode and/or throttle position sensor does not know where the drivers foot is. vehicle performs like the cruise control is on at all times, will ultimately slow down after excessive amount of time. low speed operation is especially problematic brakes are critical in controlling engine speed and obviously vehicle speed. with foot off accelerator vehicle will maintain 10 mph speed in parking lot, will travel up hill for aprox. 30 to 50 feet before beginning to decelerate. throttle response is extremely delayed and transmission shift points are confused at times. at times i place vehicle in neutral going down hill to get engine out of sustained v-4 fuel saving mode so i can better control downhill speed. dealer contacted and vehicle inspected, i was informed that is the way the system operates and can not be adjusted. also told that california emissions standards prohibit complete engine idle down because sudden idle down will generate unburned fuel. i was told that the maintained speed was the "sail speed" and that was just the way it is designed to operate. vehicle performance is not confident or precise, driver must be constantly aware of unintentional acceleration via sustained speed and lack of deceleration when wanted. *jb

Exhaust vibrates at 1200 rpm to 1400 rpm. the whole truck moans and vibrates. i would think the vibration in time will cause premature failure in exhaust system. *jb
