Problems with 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES

Door latch passenger side failed while driving, causing the door to swing open and passenger to almost fall out. passenger was kept in vehicle by safety belt. no injuries but quite a frightening experience. this is not the first latch failure on this vehicle, the drivers side door also had a latch failure approx. a year earlier. this is caused by the latch springs rusting though and the latch releasing. spoke with other owners they have had the same problem, also spoke with the dealers repair shop, not an uncommon problem with the vehicle. expensive to repair as well, the part is $175 plus labor for each latch. *tr

Door latch/opener does not return to position and as a result door will open unexpectedly. also tailgate latch does not latch, takes numerous time before it catches when trying to close. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado 1500. the rear driver side door would not latch; therefore, it could not fully close as well. the door was being held shut by a rope. the contact took the vehicle to a repair shop and they installed a new door latch assembly. the failure mileage was 71,000 and current mileage was 72,000. updated 11/26/08 *cn updated 12/01/08. *jb

Latch on the rear, passenger side window of my extended cab silverado does not work properly. air rushes through as the window will not shut tight. many others have also complained of this problem and filed a complaint. *tr

I have the ext. cab and on the little windows on the back doors i've had them replaced. then they put some washers on the latch and they still leak air. *jb
