While returning from vacation my chevy silverado 1500 pickup truck picked up a vibration. upon checking, it was discovered that the front drivers side tire had belt separation. the only correction was to replace the defective tire which was done immediately. i now keep a close check on the remaining three tires. *tr

Twice i have had the spare tire winch cable break on me,if this was to happen in heavy traffic or high speeds it could cause serious injury or death, and i was never aware it was gone until i needed the spare. *tr

I observed cracks in my tires about 1 inch out from the rim. all four tires are starting to crack out along the bead line in a circle around the tire. the dealer i purchased these from says it is not dangerous, but he is willing to credit a small sum towards a new set of tires. why would someone credit you if the tires are not defective. it appears they are trying to cover this up. my family rides in this vehicle and now i am concerned for their safety. the dealer wants to sell me a set of tires just like i have and will only credit me if i purchase from him or holt the tires and credit till i need a new set. i hope to hear from you quickly because i need my truck. the tires are mastercraft courser at-2 265-75r16 purchased on 5/26/07. *tr

Dt*: the contact stated while traveling 40 mph, the vehicle presented permanent to worsening conditions of the steering column. prior warnings included when turning the wheel to the right, the vehicle made a clicking sound and vibration would occur. the steering column gradually became more difficult to turn. the vehicle was taken to the dealer ten separate occasions for the same repairs concerning the steering. upon examination, the dealer determined that the steering shaft needed lubrication and that the vehicle would need lubrication maintenance every 4,000 miles. also, the interior shaft was worn and the belt was broken. the dealer replaced mount cushions, repaired the bushing and steering gear, and provided steering shaft with a lube kit. prior examinations made by the dealer could not identify the cause of the problem. the left rear tire had a broken belt. updated 12/01/06. *jb

The front tires on the outer edge are what i call cupping out. i have been to the dealer 4 or 5 times where i purchased the truck and they have acknowledged that i do have a front end problem. they keep telling me it's the alignment causing the abnormal wear but after 5 or 6 alignments you would think something would either correct or the dealership would tell me what is wrong with the truck. i went to a different dealership in smyrna appx 9 miles from bill heard about 2 weeks after they aligned my truck and they said the truck was out of alignment. i had to pay for this and this was a rep. from the gm factory telling me what to do. as of 12/2/02 ed boggs the rep said their was nothing else that chevrolet or gm could do. i suggested him give me a truck that was safe to drive or i felt i was safe. bill heard did admit that the wear on 5 tire rotations on the front end was abnormal but was within specs. i gave them a chance and said if you would write me a letter or statement saying that this wear is normal and is not going to affect the normal wear on this truck i will shut up and let it rest. wasn't going to happen! the pulled a print out stating they couldn't find nothing wrong with my truck. i in the meantime have checked a few of the newer trucks i've seen in parking lots and noticed about half the trucks have the same kind of problem so i guess im the only one pursuing the problem. i don't have the money to keep sinking into this truck. on the older trucks i've owned the wear im getting on these tires look like shock or suspension problems but they say no way. so i'm back at square one with abnormal tire wear and no answers and really mad. hopefully you people can help me. thank you [xxx] *dt information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *jb *tr
