We have classified the 236 complaints from 2013 Chevrolet Malibu about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet malibu. while driving 60 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and powered off the engine. the vehicle failed to restart and the key failed to release from the ignition. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer and dealer were not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 13,000.
Passenger seat sensor causes electrical components inside vehicle to be disabled. heat and air conditioning do not function and temporary loss of power occurs. this occurs while vehicle is in motion and while stationary.
13 malibu every day at least twice the radio will flicker off and on multiple times and then once i hit the brakes and make a turn the brake will go solid and the steering wheel jerks hard all at the same time and then all my dash lights stop working. then it will all power on and work like new a few seconds after. but once the car is parked and car is turned off it will not allow me to take the key out. and then once you try to turn the key in there is no power at all. no lights. no clicks. no radio. no nothing. completely dead car. but then if you unplug the battery for 10 mins and plug it back in... then the key will come out and/or will turn on and the car is working fine again for maybe a trip or two and then it does this again. every single day! no codes show on the dash no lights of anything wrong at all. has been doing this for almost a month now. i have almost hit multiple people because of this issue!!! help!!! local chevy dealer and also a local body shop cannot find the issue. i have a 5 year old and i'm terrified to take her anywhere with me and it's our only car and i owe a lot on it. only had it almost 2 years. i need help
While driving my vehicle all of the dashboard lights go off. sometimes they flicker before going off but once this happens sometimes i lose power in the vehicle other times i just have to continue driving with no dashboard lights, this means i cant see how fast i am going, my gas gauge etc. this causes a big risk for me as i am driving down the highway. it doesnt matter the weather either, it could be raining, snowing or sunny and the dashboard still acts up. it also causes my battery to drain which is brand new, i also checked alternator and starter and both are perfect. sometimes the dash is blank even right at the start up of my car, other times it goes out as i am driving, it also doesnt matter the speed.
Originally taken in for water pump replacement. now stalls and dies randomly and gives codes for various wrongs, most often for water in fuel line. there is no water in there. the water pump went out while i was parked, when i tried to leave, that's when it died.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the vehicle lunged when the accelerator pedal was applied and there was a constant loss of power. the contact had to constantly pull the vehicle over to the side of the road. the vehicle was towed to coyle chevrolet buick gmc (1801 broadway st, , in 47129, (812) 218-1100) and serviced under the warranty. after the warranty expired, the dealer diagnosed and replaced the sonly , sonly bolt, sonly generator, air conditioning compressor, flushed the coolant, replaced compressor kit(2), and performed additional repairs. however, the failures still occurred. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was not available. .*bp consumer stated transmission was not the problem. cam-actuators have dust which causes a car to flutter or die. consumer told the mechanic that was not the problem there are of complaints with this same problem. as of 5/15/19 car is still in the shop.*jp
Car shuts off and restarts on its own even while driving......been having problems with this since purchased but always told its the battery.....i have went through about 3 batters since purchasing in 2015....the other night it started shutting down little by little, power steering went, ended up with no inside lights, tail lights or headlights while driving on the highway......almost caused a collision.....this is very dangerous yet as many complaints as i have read about this identical problem, still told no recall on my vehicle and dealership is my responsibility.....this is not the first time the car has had to be towed for not staying cranked after these episodes.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet malibu. while driving 45 mph, the vehicle stalled and the electrical and power steering functionality was lost. on some occasions, the vehicle would restart on the first attempt. on other occasions, it took several attempts to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to palm chevrolet (located at 2300 sw college rd, ocala, fl 34471, (352) 484-0733) to be diagnosed, but the mechanic was unable to retrieve a fault code or duplicate the failures. the manufacturer was notified of the failures and provided case number: 9-4928351338. the approximate failure mileage was 133,000.
Multiple times while since i've had it it has reduced engine power ( stabiltrak) on me while driving. just recently check engine light came on with codes reading for camshaft actuators failing and pcm failing. the car chugs will driving and has even died while operating.
The car infotainment screen and power steering suddenly and momentarily shut down.i bought the car 3 weeks a go. in the past three weeks the issue happened about a dozen times. when it happens the steering wheel becomes very hard to turn. also the steering wheel cuts the power off to the infotainment screen and the blower fan, if it is jerked left and right quickly when the car is parked. after turtthe car off and back on the problem goes away.
When driving my cars electric system will shut down. radio goes off then lights on the dash go crazy and steering wheel jerks real hard and loss of steering for a few seconds then it all comes back on.
While driving the vehicles electrical system, lights, radio dash start to intermittently go off then come back on. while this is happening the steering suddenly froze up while making a turn into oncoming traffic. this nearly caused a head on collision with oncoming cars. that same night when i pulled up in front of my house the headlights and instrument cluster kept flashing on and off.
When driving my car mulitiple electrical issues occur, i will turn on the blinkers and the radio and dash lights will go out and back on. at times the car will completely lose power and i will have to turn it off and then back on. the most dangerous time i was turning left on van dyke ave in warren michigan, a large 6 lane road, when i lost all power including power steering i was able to quickly turn the key ignition off and back on again and get off the road before oncoming traffic arrived. i took my car to hamilton chevrolet dealership and they were unable to find any problems with it. i picked up my car from the dealership, after 2 weeks there, and drove to work the next morning at 5am and pulled into the parking lot at work as i parked the car, the car lost all power except this time i was unable to restart the car and had it towed back to hamilton chevrolet.
While vehicle is in drive, the car radio will turn off, power steering is affected (very difficult to turn wheel), lights on dashboard all come on and if backing up the rear camera will not work. repair shop cant figure out, tested electrical, battery and alternator. scary lots of others posting very similar problem needs to be addressed!!
Check engine light constantly on, cant clear. screen on radio is completely blacked out and wont turn on. trunk randomly pops open by itself. hard down shift. battery seems weakening when cranking car up
2013 malibu ls same problem as eco has been doing this for awhile now voltage drops enging stalls power stering brakes everything shuts off also does this when you turn turn signals on radio every thing shuts off this is a factory problem that need to be fixed this could cause someone to get hurt or killed no control when everything shuts off does this at different speeds
The entire instrument panel cluster would turn on/off on it's own at random. at first the issue seemed to happen the most when the environmental temperatures were lower. the entire instrument panel has now completely stopped working. none of the gauges or lights on the instrument panel work. due to this issue, i am unable to know my speed, fuel level, mileage, temperature, battery, etc. this creates a hazard when driving.
Vehicle was traveling at highway speeds when all power cut out on sept 5, 2018. power restored within 10 seconds. took to dealer on sept. 6. no problem found. on sept. 21 the vehicle lost power 3 separate times all at highway speeds again.
Driving down road engine stalls for 30 to 40 seconds everythying shuts down low voltage when lights are on
Saturday i was parking my car and the car all of a sudden stopped. the wheel locked and then the car just shut off. i had no problem restarting it. today i was on the highway and my vehicle did the same thing.
The seat will not function properly and gets stuck in position, currently the back is tilted nearly all the way back and will not tilt back up
Vehicle looses power causing the traction light to come on, power steering to go out, vehicle becomes hard to steer and eventually goes dead. happens randomly.
The mechanic states it may be a condition in which the generator control module (gcm) may not function properly. the battery wouldn't hold a charge and then suddenly it was charged and driving as normal, the battery indicator light was on the entire time. they cannot find anything wrong with it now, but stated there was a recall and thinks that is what is wont with my vehicle. also the stop/start feature is not working at all on the vehicle. it acts like it will cut off intermittently.
Car is currently parked at a mechanic because i'm afraid to drive it. it began with the rpms going to 3000-4000 when barely pressing gas pedal. the car stalled after putting it in reverse nearly causing me to get hit, the engine light came on so we took it directly to our mechanic. the code for a bad cam solenoid was listed, and that was replaced. drove it for about a week, still noticing issues with rpms, and when braking, the rpms would increase. just had to drop it back off at mechanic because while going 30mph, the car when to 4000 rpms and the 'engine overspeed' light came on the dash, and the car was losing power. after i turned the car off, and restarted, the rpms would not go beyond 2000, and the fuel hand went to a full tank? this is completely ridiculous for a car with 70,000 miles, and gm should be held accountable. thankfully i've not been involved in a car accident yet, but i'm fearful if i continue to drive this car, i'll not be able to say that!
I would be driving the car and all the lights on the dashboard would come on and then go off. the steering would pull to the left. a couple of times all the lights on the dashboard would come on and the car would cut off while i'm driving on the road.
My vehicle had repairs last year 2 times, the engine was rebuilt almost completely. the suspension went out, the esc as well, electrical issues. draining battery constantly. the dash showed engine running hot pulled over let it cool and it would not restart..
The dashboard completely went out no gauges work, no fuses are blown and dealership doesn't know why
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet malibu. while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle suddenly stopped moving and was unable to change gears to move off the roadway. the failure occurred without warning. an independent mechanic was able to go to the location and serviced the vehicle by replacing the alternator assembly; however, the failures continued. the contact stated that the stability control warning indicator flashed, various other warning indicators and gauges flickered, and the steering wheel became inoperable. once the warning indicators had gone off, the contact was able to maneuver the steering wheel in either direction; however, the failure was getting progressively worse. the contact also stated that the key was unable to be removed from the ignition. the dealer (vaden of beaufort, 103 robert smalls pkwy, beaufort, sc 29906, (843) 525-4100) was contacted to schedule an diagnostic appointment. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet malibu. while operating the vehicle, the check engine sensor illuminated. in addition, the vehicle would sometimes shut off while making a left turn. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that there was an electrical failure. the vehicle was then towed to cap city chevrolet (5250 e. main st, white hall, oh), but no failure could be found. after the contact retrieved the vehicle, the failure continued. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 100,000.
Camshaft actuator solenoid was replaced under special warranty. check engine light came on again after this was replaced. was told it was now the intake solenoid. this also should have been covered under the same warranty. was told it would cost 258.00 to replace.
While the vehicle is in motion, radio and other electrics go blank, steering wheel feels locked up but i assume it has lost power steering. this has happened multiple times. it corrects itself in few seconds but once nearly swerved into a car as the wheel would not turn.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet malibu. while attempting to drive the vehicle, it failed to start. on another occasion, while driving 40 mph, the vehicle stalled, all the warning indicators illuminated, and the steering wheel seized. the contact was able to coast the vehicle to a parking lot. the vehicle was able to restart an hour later and was driven to the contact's residence. the contact called wallace chevrolet at (888) 350-8421 (located at 3575 se federal hwy, stuart, fl 34994) and was informed to schedule an appointment for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet malibu. while driving 55 to 60 mph, the charging system warning indicator illuminated and caused the battery to engage into discharge mode. the contact was able to drive the vehicle home. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v173000 (electrical system). the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 144,000.
I recently paid my vehicle off and i am experiencing several electrical issues. the emergency brake went out and "service emergency brake light is on". there's no connection. when i hit a pothole in the road while driving, my radio screen blacks out. then i can hit another bump and it comes back on. when i park, my ignition does not release my key. i have to turn the steering wheel several times and put it in drive then back in park several times to get the key to release. after doing this several times my key broke off in the ignition and i was stranded and had to walk home over two miles. has anyone else complained of these issues with the 2013 malibu? i couldn't pass my recent safety inspection due to the brake issue and i was inconvenienced again as a result of these issues.
Takata recall i have my car for less than 6 month dashboard is dead it jumps on and off from time to time , services lights are coming on , my steerling wheel is pulling to the right i can't let it go with it pulling and almost causing a wreck on the road
While driving on the highway and city streets my car electrical system cut completely off while engine is still running. it jerks the car to left or right and then cuts back mlm on. can't steer until the power comes back on if i'm driving or parked. this has happened on several occasions. check engine lights comes on then message of engine power reduced. have been in service several times about check engine light coming on and still cant fix the problem. this is dangerous and afraid i will get in an accident soon. something has to be done about this.
While driving and moving or using steering drive car completely shuts down. i almost had 2 accidents because of this. it happens randomly suddenly the car while driving shuts down, stereo goes off and driving steering wheel goes hard i cant use it. when i turn off the car trying to park it it shuts down and keys get locked or stuck, unable to remove keys. while driving sometimes if you turn on highlights it shuts down the car. this is very unsafe, really disappointed with general motors and chevrolet. i almost crash with other car because of this. it really is a fabric issue, there are hundreds of cases and complaints demonstrating that this is a error that gm or chevrolet needs to fix for the safety of their customers.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet malibu. while driving 75 mph, the service battery and engine warning indicators illuminated and the vehicle stalled. the contact stated that the failure recurred on eight different occasions. the contact stated that the vehicle was able to restart each time. the vehicle was taken to dyer chevrolet ft. pierce (4200 south us highway 1, fort pierce, fl 34982, (772) 461-4800) where it was diagnosed that the generator control module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 188,000. *tt the recall was for gcm generator control module. updated 9/26/18*jb
While driving (on multiple occasions) on city streets my car experiences multiple electronic failures including.. flickering display screen, loss of my link radio system, shut down of power steering, and warning displays of need to service stability system. when it first occured i was turning right in a city intersection loss of power steering led the wheel to lock and this lack of control almost forced me into another vehicle, i was forced to slam on the brakes and stop in the middle of the intersections and restart the car to regain control. it continues to display this issue until i made it to the mechanic. the mechanic also drove the vehicle and logged similiar experiences. after the issue was thought to be a loose ground in the car the problem seemed to be resolved.i emailed chevy multiple times about my concerns wondering if this was a noted problem for my car, i was told that since there was no recall they would do nothing for me. since it seemed to be okay i let it go and continued. a couple days later while driving the car experienced another reoccurrence of the incident while driving this time only loss of radio and other displays. i again emailed chevy and took my car to the shop. i started googling to find answers where i found multiple forums with 100s of similar examples and chevy via email still continues to deny issues with the manufacturering of the car. after 10 days in the shop, hounding chevy for answers i was able to receive word of a memo from a local chevy mechanic that stated that this was a known issue for my model/year and listed potential fixes. when i informed chevy of my anger towards the memo being kept from me they replied that i wasn't allowed to have the information since i wasn't a chevy mechanic. the issue has now occured again almost resulting in another accident and my car lost power completely. i have owned this car for 3 months.
My 2013 chevrolet malibu lost power and shut off while driving on five different occasions to date. the first two times i had come to a complete stop and the key could not be removed from the ignition. i had to wait for 10 to 30 minutes before the power returned and could remove the key or restart the vehicle. on the third occasion, i was driving on the highway and the radio and air conditioning lost power and the car was threatening to shut off but regained power. the steering wheel briefly locked up during this event. i later turned off on the nearest exit making a complete stop at the light and the vehicle lost complete power and shut off in the middle of traffic.the steering wheel locked up, the radio and all lights went black and the air shut off for a few seconds and then came back on. i had to put the car in park and was then able to restart it. the same thing happened on a residential street with heavy traffic while slowing for a stop light.the next incident was in a parking lot while trying to back out with the car still in drive. there were also a few times where the radio went black and the steering wheel locked up briefly while making a turn but did not loose power. my daily commute to work requires me to take the highway. i am terrified of what may happen after the memorial day holiday when i am to return to work and travel the highway again.
While driving, all electronic systems shut off. the engine is still running but the gauges, power steering, traction control, everything. anything electrical shuts off. it's happened on the freeway going 60 mph and on residential streets only going 15 mph.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the previous vehicle owner had the vehicle repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 13v173000 (electrical system). the contact stated that the electrical warning indicator illuminated and the previous owner had the vehicle serviced at an unknown dealer. after purchasing the vehicle, the contact stated that the electrical system warning indicator illuminated again. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. the dealer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 62,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet malibu. while driving at any speed, the power steering ability seized and the vehicle shut down and then restarted. in addition, the service power steering indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to classic lawton chevrolet (8308 nw cache rd, lawton, ok 73505, 580-280-2800) where it was diagnosed that the power steering module needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure recurred and was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 61,000.
When i was on my way home, my car's warning lights started to flicker, and 'power steering service' and 'charging system' warning lights appeared. my entire dash went completely black and steering wheel became completely hard. the car stayed on, but all the lights went off. after a few seconds, the car shut off. car would not restart, even with a jump. mileage on car was at 110,000 miles. luckily i was on a residential street, so i just pushed the car safely in front of a random house. upon further examination, this appears to be an on going problem. i've found hundreds of other owners with a similar problem on various forums. some are very similar to my problem, while others are more dangerous. below, i have quoted other owners personal stories as well 'the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet malibu. while driving approximately 60 mph, the power steering malfunctioned and caused the steering wheel to become very difficult to turn in either direction. the vehicle was taken to the local chevrolet dealer (phil smith chevrolet, 1640 north state rd 7, lauderdale, fl 33313). the dealer reset the power steering module, but the failure continued. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 118,000.' 'charging system" engine light keep coming on. all lights come on dash board come on then go dim. car shuts down on you while driving and steering wheel locks up. i almost crash into a light. - richton park, il' 'this is my second report. the vehicle loses power steering and the entire gauge cluster goes dark. almost caused a wreck today. it happened twice today and once yesterday. this is getting out of hand. needs to be recalled immediately. thank you - ravenna, oh' this seems to be an on going problem and needs to be seriously looked at before an accident occurs.
Touch screen goes black, lose sound, randomly lose power while driving, car completely stalls at stop as well as while driving, steering wheel locks while driving going straight or in the middle of turn, all this happens at random times doesn't matter how far and how long, no trigger has been found, dealership can not duplicate the problem. car will lock key in the ignition and will not release for a while and no electricity works. this is a safety hazard and car was released back to me because no issue was found. testing was done and found no issues with my car. this has been going on for a few months
Steering ecu, instrument cluster, and center stack all reset while driving intermittently. these incidence have occurred numberous times and gm does not know the root cause. when an event occurs the driver looses power steering for a brief period of time. this has happened while making left hand turns, on the highway, and while stopped. gm released a technical service bulletin to check ground points on the negative battery cable this does not solve the problem and this is a serious safety concern. i have released production level software for numberous tier one suppliers that have gone into a variety of ecus. to me it seems like all of the body control modules have lost power. when checking car complaints this same behavior has been stated in over 40 reports and all reports state gm was unable to determine the cause. if an investigation has not been launched into this behavior i highly recommend it before the loss of power steering kills someone. http://m.carcomplaints.com/chevrolet/malibu/2013/electrical/loss_of_power_while_driving.shtml https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=26cz7qhvxck&feature=youtu.be https://youtu.be/lreeo3e9jya https://youtu.be/kv83c7anskq

Starting in october 23, 2017 got in the car started it and it started but dashboard lights did not come on. proceeded to drive home the dashboard never came back on. i got in the car the next day the dashboard lights came on.. i took it george matick chevrolet on october 24, 2017 and they were unable to diagnose anything, the car continued to do the same with the lights blinking on and off including the signal light while driving until one day the dashboard was completely black and the battery died completely down and i had to have the car towed to george matick chevy on january 31, 2018. once again they said they couldn't diagnose anything boosted the car and that's it. still to this day the car continues doing the same and the dealership is saying nothing is wrong. i feel unsafe and believe this is electrical and wonder if the car will catch on fire. i also wonder if it will start up every day and what is going to happen when i drive it. every single day it is doing this. i keep contacting the dealer and they basically are saying if the machine cannot do anything they cannot help me. i want to know if there is another way this issue can be checked or if i have to trade in a car that i just got over a year ago. they want me to bring it in and keep paying for diagnostic testing to tell me nothing is wrong. i am no mechanic but i do know that the dashboard instrument panel indicator light signals etc should not blink while driving and the dash should never go black while driving. please help me because i am really afraid to drive and cannot get anyone to understand this is a safety hazard when you cannot see your speed, gas level, etc. in addition when signals are blinking and going crazy for no reason the car behind me could hit me. so this happens now in motion every single day on streets, highways. turning or going straight.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the vehicle was stalling with no warning. the battery warning light flashed several times as the failure progressed. the vehicle was taken to a dealer athens chevrolet (4110 atlanta hwy, athens, ga 30606, 706-549-3512) who diagnosed that the vehicle battery needed to be replaced which was replaced however after a week the vehicle had continued to stall. the vehicle was then taken back to the dealer due to the contact having to constantly recharge the battery. the dealer then indicated that the eco battery needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v173000 (electrical system) or nhtsa action number: aq14001 (electrical system). the dealer who sold the vehicle, world toyota, 5800 peachtree industrial blvd, atlanta, ga 30341, 1-(678) 547-9000 was contacted several times to determine if the warranty may be used to diagnose and repair the vehicle and had not responsed. the manufacturer was notified of the failure to determine if the warranty may cover the repair and if not to provide a permanent remedy to the dealer. the approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
Keep stuck in ignition. no power. had p0010 code. changed the intake camshaft position solenoid.
