I was driving east on colonel glenn highway in dayton oh, when the electric power steering went out. it caused the car to jerk and caused my wife's neck to strain. i came home and checked and learned that chevrolet had a recall notice for some 2009 malibus, but our car was not included. it seems strange that chevrolet did not include all 2009 malibus. *tr

Power steering will quit intermittently and will esc light will come on. steering is very difficult and could result in a accident. *tr

While driving my 2009 chevy malibu on the highway at 60 mph my steering failed. there was a warning chime then the service esc/power steering light came on and the steering was very hard to turn. i was able to pull on to the shoulder. i shut the car off for a few minutes then restarted the car and the steering was working again. a few miles down the road it happened again. this continued all weekend. it was very dangerous driving. i brought the car to the dealer on monday to have it checked. i was told they found a faulty steering column torque sensor and the dealer told me my vehicle was not covered under the recall. nhtsa campaign # 14v153000 bulletin 14116 states 2008-2009 chevy malibu built from 3/1/08-6/2708 are covered my car was built 8/2008. so it wasn't covered. the bulletin says tor replace the torque sensor assembly. the same part that failed on my car. the gm part # is 232310 sensor kit it cost $216 + $305 for labor + $149 for alignment and tax for a total of $746.29. which i'm responsible for paying. gm is recalling over 1.3 million car between 2005-2010 for the sudden loss of electric power steering (eps) assist. i believe all models between those years should be included in the recall. this is a very dangerous situation. someone is going to get hurt. i'm afraid to let my daughter drive this car.

driving down interstate and the power steering just quit. fought it across two lanes and managed to pull off to side of road i had no power assist at all. turned the engine off waited a few minutes and started back up power steering was fine. drove few miles down interstate lost the power steering again. i could get off road turn off car and start back up and power steering would work for while managed to get home and haven't driven since. i looked up and found there is a recall on certain 2009 malibu your campaign number 14v153000 and my car is doing exactly what that recall describes but local chevy dealer said they couldn't repair under that campaign because my vin number ([xxx] doesn't show up with a recall for power steering. driving down the interstate at 70 mph and having you power steering go out is a major safety concern and like i said its exactly what your campaign describes. please help information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

While driving down the highway at 60mph at approximately 8pm on feb 26, my steering wheel began to vibrate and then the driver info display panel showed power steering and service esc. i then lost all power steering in my vehicle. this made it extremely difficult to steer and operate safely. luckily i was able to get the vehicle off the highway safely. the next day, i took the vehicle to my dealer and was told that the power steering torque sensor needs replaced. i did research and discovered that a similar recall was issued for the electronic power steering on 2009 malibu's , but my vin was not included in the recall. i am unclear as to why. i contacted gm/chevrolet and was told i am not covered and am now holding a bill for almost $600. i was shocked to learn that my vehicle was not covered. additionally, i was not even aware that my vehicle did not have hydraulic power steering. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the eps warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the technician diagnosed that the torque sensor assembly failed and needed to be replaced. the dealer verified that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v153000 (steering). however, the contact had experienced the same failure and required the exact repair covered under the recall. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 91,000.

Sudden loss of power steering, nearly caused a wreck in parking lot. impossible to steer car due to resistance in wheel. *tr

While traveling 55 mph on a highway exit ramp, the power steering stopped working. the dashboard console chimed and a power steering warning was displayed. the esc light also illuminated. the incident fit the same description as in campaign number: 14v153000; however, model was not covered in this campaign. i am unsure why. *tr

Steering wheel locked as i drove straight. it occured on the road and freeway. safety hazard, had child in the car with me and it was so sudden. *js

Tl*the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, the steering wheel was difficult to maneuver. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 98,000.

Power steering stopped working while driving at highway speeds. 'service esc/power steering' error message showed up in driver information center. very difficult to turn the steering wheel when this happens, even at highway speed. problem is currently intermittent, but getting more frequent. gm dealership indicates that there are no current recalls for this issue, but in looking at the number of complaints i am very surprised. there seems to be some other steering-related recalls for 2009 malibu's, but apparently not for my vin. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet malibu. while driving approximately 55 mph, the power steering failed and the steering wheel became difficult to steer. the vehicle was towed to a dealer. the technician diagnosed that the torque angle sensor failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact notified the manufacturer of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 138,000.

Sunday i was driving to work on rte 72 and 25, when electronic message came on that showed "service, ( power steering)", lights came on and steering became increasing difficult when making a turn at intersection. it felt it was unsafe to drive so i ended up trying to park, which i had difficulty when trying to turn into a parking space. when we took it to chevrolet dealer the next day, we were informed no recall, so they wouldn't look at car for power steering without charging us. so it wasn't checked. today, when i picked it up it seems to be working, is this something that gm should have notified us about? i have seen recalls for other chevrolet malibu for 2004-2006 & 2008-2012 on the internet, for power steering? am i going to have any difficulty again with the power steering? i am concerned for my safety and the other drivers, since this is my only vehicle. *tr

I have lost and not had power steering in my vehicle since 2/13/15. the first 2 times it has gone out were on the highway above 45mph, since then it has not worked at any point in time. i have contacted gm complaints about this problem and informed them about the current recall (nhtsa campaign number: 14v153000) that's issued for this problem .but because my vin wasn't included, they will not accept responsibility for the problem that is happening to my vehicle that is described in the recall, even though the year make and model are listed in the recall they wont do anything about it. this could have endangered everyone around me and could have created a very serious or fatal accident if it happened at the wrong time, or even if my wife was driving and not know what was happening. because of the lack of responsibility gm is taking on this very serious and fatal problem they are producing and selling, i am not stuck having to pay for the repair with no reimbursement. i'm no longer a fan of gm and will not be buying another product of theirs. *tr

Vehicle loss power steering and had to be manually steered to shoulder. alarm indication: "power steering, esc sensor needs service". this condition keeps repeating itself over and over and over again. the fault and condition can be temporarily cleared by turning off ignition and re-starting ignition. the steering wheel rocks back in forth in idle and feels like the power steering is pulsating. my vin somehow is not included in earlier recall but is exhibiting exactly the same issues as those recalled in same production year!!!!???? *tr

I was driving home with my children in the car and my electrical power steering locked up and nearly caused an accident. happy that everyone made it home safely, i then tried to find probably causes in to what is the cause and what i can do. i saw nothing but gm recalls for 2008 -2009 chevy malibu's that are having this problem. no one can help but the dealership, so i drove down to the dealership on a saturday, and asked if anyone can take a look at the issue, and the gentleman was short and rude, as if he did not want to help me. i practically had to beg for them to look at my vehicle. so i patiently waited for 3 and a half hours in the lobby. to find out that the power steering module is going bad. that it will cost 480.00. the guy charged me 95.00 just for a diagnostic, and i didn't get a warning that this will be a charge, on top of it he wanted to charge me 800.00 to fix other things on my vehicle, when my main concern was the power steering. i felt taken advantage of, and no one explained to me as to why this took place. i am thinking it must be apart of the recall. so i sent a letter to corporate about this experience. i spoke with an agent and a senior adviser. i cannot wait years later for them to decide that they missed a vehicle. so they did try to give me options to see if they can help with the cost due to the inconvenience i've been through with my children and how i was treated at the terry cullen chevy dealership in georgia. hopefully they can cover half the cost so i can get this fix. i am currently driving dangerously on the road to get to and from work, and i have no other options nor extra money to get this fixed right now. i just do not understand how i can have the same issue in my vehicle and everyone else has a recall on theirs. is this a normal ware and tare issue. *tr

I was parked for several minutes. when i put my car in drive, the power steering warning came on along with the malfunction light. this is the first time that it happened. about an hour later, i brought it to a mechanic; the steering was fine and the light didn't come on. apparently, other models of the malibu have had this issue and a recall was sent. however, my particular model is not a part of the recall, despite the number of complaints consumers have made. gm really needs to address this problem and issue a recall to all their cars where customers have made complaints on the exact same issue. *tr

Driving into a parking lot to park and the traction light came on and the esc light comes on and the power steering goes out. this really should be included with the other car recalls that have this same issue. it is an identical issue. come gm stand behind your products!!! *tr

On tuesday february 3rd 2015 i was on my way home from work when my 2009 chevy malibu cut off on me. the check engine and traction lights came on and a message of power steering service esc came on. cars had to swerve around me to avoid collision luckily i had not yet made it onto the interstate. i turned the engine off, waited for five minutes and restarted the vehicle. upon restart all of the lights and messages were gone and the car was operable. i researched this issue and found that is a known issue and even on recall. i called gm and i was informed by a rep that while this is a known issue and is a recall for my model my vin number does not meet the recall. i do not understand how a known issue that i am currently experiencing is not covered by gm. this is a extreme hazard to myself, other drivers and my newborn child that i travel with. i am very angry, disappointed and i feel betrayed by gm and chevrolet. i will be contacting my lawyer, sending letters to gm and blogging to warn people of the dangers and hassles of purchasing and driving a chevy. *tr

Abrupt power-steering failure. the steering wheel turns and jerks (shutters back and forth) on its own while the car is at rest at a stoplight or stop sign. took to chevy dealer and they advised me there is a recall for this issue but my vin and part# are not included as of now. dealer told me it is due to faulty positioning sensor part # 23232310 sensor ki. *tr

My 2009 malibu lost it's electronic power steering, and i now have to steer it manually, which is hard for me. my car was on a recall list on 4/2014 but i never received any notification and when i called gm they said there was no recall for my car. my cousin, who is a mechanic, got the recall info from the site alldata repair s3000. i would like to know if my car is on the recall and what i need to do. ty *tr

When pulling out of my driveway, the power steering just quit, its electric power steering, message center indicates "power steering", "service esc", then "esc off" and my traction control light comes on. occasionally when i first start the car the power steering will work for a minute or two then goes out again. i searched for recalls but there are no open recalls at this time. according to a chevrolet malibu website there is a known problem with loss of power steering with some 2009 malibus. apparently my build date missed the recall by a month. therefore this does not seem to be a "wear problem". *tr

While driving, power steering failed, heard a ding and a dash warning came on saying power steering/esc off. i took it to chevrolet to have a brake recall performed and they looked at it saying it was the torque sensor. this item is a recall for over 1.5 million chevrolets but somehow, mine is the exception. i have fought with chevy over this and they refuse to fix it. poor service. poor company. *tr

For the past several weeks upon starting my 2009 chevy malibu lt ... a light comes on the dashboard and says service esc and power steering. at this time i lose all power assist to my car and steering is very hard. when i restart my car it resets itself and then i am able to steer again unless it trips again. this is super dangerous and appears to be getting worse and worse. it is the same recall listed for several other malibu's and gm cars but not my year. my year needs to be included in this recall also. i took it to the dealership and they wanted $600 to fix it and diagnosed it as the sensor in the steering wheel shorting out. i have a child and i'm literally afraid to drive my car anymore with all of the serious recalls going on i do not want to lose control this is ridiculous and i hope it's fixed soon. it's terrible to pay so much for a car that you don't even feel safe driving. *tr

Friday morning at 8am, attempted to backup car from parking space and go to work but had the hardest time turning the wheel and googled information and found recall id # 105304 for steering issue recalled july 21, 2014 & found recall id # 103669 for esc recall date may 14,2014, i've contacted chevrolet at 800.680.7031 and had case#: [xxx] initiated for steering and had a rep call gmc royal to service my car but found out that they wouldn't fix my steering or esc issue since my vin# personally hasn't been notified as a mass recall but they will fix two other issues affecting a lamp and a clamp, if i could have someone research this in depth i would greatly appreciate it as i would hate to have to pay money to have the car fixed and they send a recall letter for the same situation years later and then i'm stuck out of pocket for the prior services the main issue i experience is with the steering out of no where the car states power steering in green letters and freezes and i'm sometimes stuck in the middle of the street and can only move if i keep restarting the car and with the esc, the car states esc disabled which affects steering and no traction and messes with the pedals, if i can have these issues escalated since they are the same issue as those other recalls i would greatly appreciate it!!! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

The power steering has been going out and i have been having to restart the car to make it come back. at this time there is no power steering anymore and the parts and repair cost are something it appears should be paid for by gm as they were for everyone else with this same problem. *tr

The same day i brought my car to my local chevrolet dealership for an oil change and a brake light malfunction recall, i had the first occurrence of the issue. while on the highway, a chime sounded, and the information display on the dash showed power steering and service esc. the power steering was turned off, and turning the steering wheel became extremely difficult. when i turned the car off and back on, the problem was gone. however, after driving for a few minutes, the same chime sounds, same errors come up, and power steering shuts off. this now happens every time i drive my car. i found out that there was a recall for several gm vehicles, including some 2009 malibus, for an electric power steering (eps) issue. in the recall, the description they give matches my issue perfectly. however, my specific 2009 malibu isn't part of the recall for some reason. *tr

As i was driving my steering wheel start shaking out of no were and stop at the store and started it back and my steering is locked up and hard to turn. *tr

Power steering failed. drove, parked, restarted and power steering returned. went to mechanic and advised that sensor assembly needed to be replaced. chevrolet dealer advised that car did not fall into recall n140115. i have read about many others with this problem that also do not fall into the recall time period. possibly they need to extend the recall out if they have this many failures. by the way, i am a strong adult male and had difficulty steering without the power. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet malibu. while driving 30 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. the contact had to apply force to the steering wheel in order to steer the vehicle. the service electronic stability control (esc) was displayed across the message board. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the steering wheel torque input sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 77,457.

The power steering in my 09 malibu stopped working while i was driving while driving at 50mph on expressway. my steering wheel started to shake violently, then the eps service light came on. i pulled over to the side of the road, turned the car off and called for help. when i turned the car back on the light was off and the steering was working again. i drove home the car home and the power steering stopped working again and the warning light returned. i searched the web for recalls for a 09 malibu (steering issues has a recall). i had the vehicle towed to the dealership, i was informed that my vehicle vin was not covered in the recall and that the service will cost $516 + tax. *tr

While driving down the highway with my son going at rates of 70mph. my power steering gave out and i was unable to turn wheel. trying to find out what was wrong i found out the power steering torque sensor gave out. i contacted gm and my local dealer about incident because there has been reports of this happening on several of this year and model car. other gm cars have put recall on the power steering, not mine. i contacted dealer because they have me a price of $500-$1200. i contacted gm they refuse to help me at all. this is a safety issue and i feel unsafe driving my own car. i purchased the sensor on my own because the dealer mark up was double of what the part cost. gm refuses to help and i am now renting a car waiting for this to be fixed to sell it. i was with my young child on the highway when it locked up. please help! *tr

Power steering and service esc notification in driver information and power steering turns off. car was parked and running when it happened first time. it has happened a few times since while driving at low speeds. generally has been in colder temperature. the car has electronic steering on a 4 cylinder engine. from what i understand gm has recalled similar issues on other vehicles. *tr

Driving vehicle around a curve when esc light came on and lost power steering. parked car over night and waited for dealership to open. after research, realized the vehicle has a recall number of 14v252 which may root of the problem. when i turned on the vehicle to take to the dealer, the light was off and power steering returned. while driving to the dealer, light came on and lost power steering again. *tr
