Fuel leaks/ignition fire; took vehicle to chevy dealer to have recall items fixed and inform them the fuel leak problem with regards to nhtsa campaign #13e-043 and the article of 10/01/12 siting that gm was recalling 41,000 cars sold in warm weather states including ca, because of defective plastic part might cause "fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire." gm told nhtsa that it began investigating the problem in 2011 after a dealer reported fuel leaking and that it would notify owners and replace the fuel module free of charge including those who live outside the states affected by the recall. the offer is valid for 10yrs or 120,000 milesfrom the date the vehicle was sold, gm spokesman alan adler told the associated press. chevy superstition springs, mesa, az will not honor this and wants to charge me $900 to repair their manufacture defect. please help!! i have a child and family members i transport in vehicle with potential hazard of igniting a fire while driving.
Strong gas smell from rear of vehicle (interior/exterior). leak confirmed from fuel pump when in motion. also, vehicle hesitates when accelerated, usually after vehicle sits for an extended period of time.
Takata recall, my 08 malibu will not start after driving no matter how long. i've been stranded multiple times. i bought a new starter, relay switch, ignition, switch, and paid for multiple diagnostic tests. every mechanic sends me to the dealer ship and says they can't find the problem but believe it's the ecm. i'm taking it to the dealer today and praying this doesn't cost me another car!
Fuel tank leaking seen several chevys where recalled but my vin number is not including unable to drive care as dangerous fuel leak
We have had two issues. first broken fuel pump spilling gas on top of the fuel tank this has been an issue with this type of vehicle but not this specific vehicle. cost to repair 400 dollars. issue two. bad torque sensor on electric power steering column. causing power steering failure at will. major safety issue as well. chevy told me this specific part was not part of an earlier recall. cost to fix 622 dollars at chevy dealer. power steering failure happened while driving on city streets in madison sd. gas leaking issue was noticed by a strong smell of gasoline. we stopped driving until repair could be made. they are both recalll issues on the 08 malibu. talked to chevy. with no offer to cover repairs being made.
Engine broke down 2 weeks later they said we will give you warranty and when i refill gas the fuel sensor doesn't reach full tank and steering lost its grip the same week of purchase
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet malibu. the contact called on behalf of his mother-in-law who stated that the fuel was leaking underneath the rear of the vehicle. the vehicle also emitted a fuel odor. the contact took the vehicle to the city chevrolet dealer in san diego, california where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump module failed and needed to be replaced. the contact was unsure if the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vin was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
Gas leak. gradually began to notice strong fuel order and now an actual leak.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet malibu. while the vehicle was stationary, the fuel pump valve sprayed fuel onto the fuel tank. while the vehicle was in the run position, the odor of fuel was present near the exhaust. a dealer and the manufacturer were not made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
Noticed a strong fuel smell coming from the back of the car. an inlet line on the fuel pump was cracked allowing fuel to leak on the top of the tank and on the exhaust.
Gas leaking, module fuel pump & sender assembly had to be replaced, article in times paper said it was recalled because of this problem in 2012, i never received a recall notice. this could have been a very dangerous problem as the gas odor was very strong and i kept having to fill my car up with gas. did not take it to the dealership because i did not receive a notice and wanted it fixed before someone got hurt or killed so i took it to my mechanic. it was leaking gas when it was stationary, in motion but i smelled it the most when it was in the garage locked up.
The air bag light comes on and it says to be serviced. sometimes it comes on and it can stay off for long periods of time. the service air bag light can come on while the car is in motion and then turn off, sometimes it does stay on. my vehicle is giving a strong smell of fuel coming from the rear of the car. i notice it being a stronger smell after i station it after a drive. i have not seen a noticeable leak yet. i will have a mechanic check that for me.
This car has 77000 miles, and dumping fuel from top of fuel tank on to exhaust system while being driven. fuel is also smelled after being driven.
Fuel line is cracked and leaking, it is part of the fuel pump assembly. their are recalls regaurding similar issues on various models the same year. this vehicle should be under recall as well. i am the tech working on this vehicle and this is the second one i have seen within a year. it leaks fuel from the top of the fuel tank down the back and on the exhaust pipe. very dangerous safety situation. i will keep the old part just in case you would like it.
Takata recall my 2008 chevy malibu got stuck in reverse when i was backing out of a parking spot and i fixed it with zip ties but the plastic pin that holds my shifter to my transmission got stuck.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that fuel was leaking from the top of the fuel tank. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump assembly needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 109,586.
Purchased a used 2008 chevrolet malibu. very shortly after i could notice a strong odor of gas coming from the rear of the vehicle after driving it. i took it to a mechanic who removed the fuel tank and discovered that a plastic feed line on top of the fuel pump module had a severe leak. i contacted gm in regard to the fact that this specific issue has been recalled on the exact same year, make, and model as my vehicle. i was told that my vin was not included in the recall was offered no additional resolution or support. my concern is that the only vehicles covered under the warranty were those bought and sold or registered in "warm weather" states, but kentucky has 100 degrees very humid summers. it's is considered part of the south , a region known for being very hot in the summer. additionally the driver side door lock actuator and rear passenger door lock actuator do not work under power. the only work manually.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that there was an abnormal odor of fuel coming from the rear of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer to be inspected. the contact was informed that the fuel tank was fractured and a rubber seal on the fuel tank needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 76,000.
Upon entering the back passenger side seat of my daughter's car, i noticed a strong fuel smell. upon returning to the car, i noticed the strong fuel smell outside the car, too. when we started looking around under the car, we saw fuel leaking onto the parking lot. the car has 68,000 miles. the independent garage she took it to said the plastic part of the fuel line was leaking and replaced the fuel line assembly and fuel pump. a $740 repair for a young woman in her first job after graduating from college. we also own a chevy cobalt, which gm has issued a recall in warm weather states for this very issue. i called gm and a vice president told me this wouldn't be a covered repair. i shudder to think what would have happened if a cigarette had been thrown down by her car. she did take a picture, which i will get to upload.
My gas tank started leaking for no reason (no wear and tear-every mechanic said that is almost unheard of), my power windows and lock stopped working 2 years after purchase and was told that i had to pay almost $300 to fix each motor for the door locks and windows, the service airbag light has been on for more than a year, my ac also have issues; the sensor and thermostat has been changed 6 times within the last 4 years. i am sick of all of these issues and have no assistance with it. no matter how many times i called the local dealerships here, coincidentally, my warranty was up on every issue i faced. gm has really taken a lot of money out of my pockets. i was informed of the power steering issue and was told my vehicle would be in the shop for 1 day, which turned into 5 days, and i was denied to be reimbursed for the rental fees, which were almost $600. someone needs to do something about these issues, because my car is extremely unsafe for myself and 3 children. the windows will not go up or down at times, whether the vehicle is parked or not. the ac is the same issue, the parts will go out whether i am driving it or not. the gas leak issue is awful, because the car wreaks of gas, and my car burns gas whether it is powered on or not. the door locks have not worked since the end of 2010 and we have to manually lock and unlock. the issues with my car are there 24/7, and happens if the car is in motion or not. although, the issues i have been having have been going on for a while, except the gas leak issue which is recently, i have no choice but put the start as today's present date, because each issue started at different times and continue to cause issues, even after many attempts to repair with some issues.
Electrical and module problems safety hazards with traction control. tc on when it should not be. fuel system problems. car powers off during driving. gm refused repair without charging 120 to look at. had to disconnect fuses and had to pull actuators pressure. sensors fuel and electrical. door latches going up and down even when car is off. cannot drive highway. gm refused vehicle from repair or compensation.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle emitted a fuel odor. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the vehicle was leaking fuel from the fuel tank and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
Car leaking fuel from fuel tank. just notice gas smell for about a year now. kept getting worse, then check engine came on around december 2015, about a fuel pressure sensor. finally looked under the car and fuel is coming out of the top of the fuel tank. actually see fuel leaking from the tank, and dirt stains were fuel has been leaking
Went i bought the car had been give problem now the car smell like is leaking gas and the airbag system turn on my front wheel crack went i turn right or left i took to the dealership they said they fix the problem but still does same thing they don't help anything make me waste my time my car i peace [xxx] i wanted my all my money back. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
While driving on a crowded freeway the car started to slow down on its own. i figured i was out of gas so i checked the gauge and it was at 1/2 tank. the message said service esc, engine power reduced. there was no place to safely pull over so i had to continue to the next exit at the reduced speed. needless to say this was very frightening as traffic was trying to pass me. i could have been rear ended but luckily nothing bad happened. i found a place to stop, shut off the engine and waited 5 minutes. i restarted the car and it ran normal as if nothing happened. the check engine light was still on. i reset the code ( something about a tps) when i got home. this scenario has happened several more times even at city speeds (35 mph). i don't drive on the freeway anymore and have to take alternate routes that are safer to pull over when this happens. i think i should sell the car but i cant in good conscience pass this on to someone else like gm did to me. really guys this should be investigated asap so that no one gets hurt or killed ! *tr
Noticed gas smell for a couple of weeks and progressively got worse. took vehicle to chevy dealer and they immediately noticed the smell of gasoline. they found that the vehicle was leaking fuel from the fuel module hose. they stated that the entire fuel module had to be replaced at a cost of $868.35 which was not covered under warranty or manufacturer recalls even though there have been recent issues with the fuel modules on many gm modules including chevrolet in areas that have extremely hot summers like the san joaquin valley in california where i live. the mechanics stated that we were fortunate that the vehicle did not catch fire and i don't understand that such a thing could not be related to a defective product. the chevy cobalt 2007-2009 models and equinox 2007 model had the similar issue. thank you. *dt
Car has a fuel smell after car is turned off. took to chevrolet dealer service and was told fuel pump has crack and is leaking. is there a recall on this vehicle part? *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet malibu. the contact noticed a strong odor of fuel coming from the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who stated that fuel was leaking on top of the fuel tank. the fuel pump and the solenoid needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 60,033.
Was told fuel was leaking on top of fuel tank. *tr
Just bought this vehicle used from the dealer. the keypad didn't work, so we tried locking it by the switch on the door... still didn't work. 3 of the doors will lock when the car is put in drive. 3 (most of the time) will unlock when the car is manually unlocked in the driver door by the key. one of the doors only works by manually pushing down or pulling up on the lock no matter what. to get in the car when the doors decide not to unlock, i have to either have one kid climb in to unlock them or roll the back windows down so they can reach in to unlock them. this is a safety issue. i have two kids that could be trapped in the car if we were to have an accident and the doors will not unlock by the button or keypad. for the car to be this new, it should not have this issue. the car also has something wrong with the fuel sensor. on highways (continuous driving) you can watch the gas measurement slowly go down. an example, a 1 hour and 40 minute trip leaving on a full tank took the gas down to below half a tank. but when the vehicle is stopped or back in the city, the gas level will rise back up toright below or right above 3\4 tank. it was below a half tank on the highway and when we filled up before leaving back out it only took $10 to get it back on full. also another issue that should not be occurring in a newer vehicle. *tr
Turn signal isn't operating correctly, it no longer cuts off automatically, three of my four door latches aren't working--don't respond to key fob (the one that works), have to lock all three doors manually. check engine light comes on after filling up car and has been on for about 7 months with no one at the dealership knowing why. also have a problem with water settling in my car every time it rains. key fobs both went out also but only one is now working at 75%. all of these problems have been going on since i first got the car with the dealership either pretending as if i did it or that they do not have enough staff to correct the problem. i know this was only done because i am a female and the car was under warranty. i am so disappointed!!! i bought this car brand new with only 100 miles on it and it seems as if gm wants their dealerships to do this. i know so many people with the same problems from the same parent manufacturer (tahoe, enclave, impala, malibus) this car seems to have a lot of minor/major problems that all rear their ugly heads at various times of ownership..thinking about getting rid of it even though it was my dream car and almost paid for!!!! gm needs to get on the ball!!! *tr
The car started jerking and the engine light started blinking. the service esc and traction lights came on. then the esc and traction off lights came on and the engine light is still on. the jerking continues to happen at 40mph and at 65mph. *js
Chevrolet malibu ltz 3.6l, as you drive down the street at any speed the traction control light comes on check engine light comes on and the display say check traction press esc i have had it checked at the chevy dealership where i purchased the car and the tech said the engine misfired that it was probably due to bad gas or a particle in the gas but it has happened about ten times with gas from several places and all grades regular to premium and know the check engine light has come on and am know taking the car back to the dealer to have them scan the car again i have had the car a little over a month, if the dealer decides it is no longer there problem i will report this problem and hassle i have gone through to gm management and will return the car back to the dealer or owner of dealership for a refund. *tr
The check engine light displays constantly. the fuel gauge will randomly drop down to low/empty even though there is a full tank of gas. also at random, the tire pressure system light and airbag safety light will randomly display on the car's dash board. there are 49 other similar complaints on repairpal.com http://repairpal.com/the-fuel-gauge-may-not-read-correctly-andor-check-engine-light-with-code-p0455p0461-730. *tr
In the last year i have purchased four gas caps and have the same problem. the engine light keeps going on and off. i have had it tested at auto zone and they stated it is the gas cap. gm stated that there is no problem with there gas caps. *tr
On multiple occasions while driving, speed doesn't change outcome, door locks will continue to lock and unlock by themselves and car alarm will go off and will set itself while driving down the road. this is very distracting to the me, the driver and to the drivers around my car. thus potentially causing a crash. also, the brake lights will illuminate until you press the brake pedal then they go off. this is definitely backward! the doors will unlock, sometimes. however, you will have to guess which ones will unlock. usually, the ones that unlock are the front-right passenger and back-left passenger. the reason the unlock is because they don't lock! no one can "duplicate the problem". the driver door and right-back door sometimes are unable to be opened. this requiring me to find a door that can be opened or that did unlock and climb through to the drivers seat. all of this while making sure my autistic son and daughter remain safe in a parking lot. this is very unsafe, as i park in a parking garage several times a week on a college campus. unfortunately, neither key less remotes work either! most recently the shifter cable has broken. the care wouldn't budge. chevy was notified, we were told to have it towed to the closest chevy dealer. just to be charged a diagnostic fee, we told them the problem, and they decided not to cover it under the power train like we were told would happen. then two weeks ago, the shifter cable broke again! this seems very odd. the entire time i have had this car when i press the accelerator pedal it feels like the car is running out of gas or like its having a hard time shifting. this has been reported from the beginning with no help. so, this is my last reach out for help. as i hear about all the carjackings, cars getting stolen and robbed, i just think my car is an open invitation! please help. chevy wouldn't help us even under warranty. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet malibu. while driving at any speed, the air bag warning light remained illuminated. in addition, the fuel gauge failed to display the accurate reading level and the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 53,000.
